White House praises Gore for Nobel Peace Prize
Update: Video: The Goracle takes his bow…
Just when you thought Al Gore’s head couldn’t get any bigger, Part III. From the Associated Press:
The White House lauded former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Friday for winning the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 for his contributions to raising awareness of the threat of climate change. “The president learned about it this morning,” said White House spokesman Tony Fratto, who is traveling with President George W. Bush in Florida. “Of course he’s happy for Vice President.”
Too bad he didn’t have the balls to say what the Czech president said.
Flashback…
Czech president Vaclav Klaus, “Freedom, not climate, is at risk,” June 13, 2007:
In the past year, Al Gore’s so-called “documentary” film was shown in cinemas worldwide, Britain’s – more or less Tony Blair’s – Stern report was published, the fourth report of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was put together and the Group of Eight summit announced ambitions to do something about the weather. Rational and freedom-loving people have to respond. The dictates of political correctness are strict and only one permitted truth, not for the first time in human history, is imposed on us. Everything else is denounced.
The author Michael Crichton stated it clearly: “the greatest challenge facing mankind is the challenge of distinguishing reality from fantasy, truth from propaganda”. I feel the same way, because global warming hysteria has become a prime example of the truth versus propaganda problem. It requires courage to oppose the “established” truth, although a lot of people – including top-class scientists – see the issue of climate change entirely differently. They protest against the arrogance of those who advocate the global warming hypothesis and relate it to human activities.
As someone who lived under communism for most of his life, I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not in communism. This ideology wants to replace the free and spontaneous evolution of mankind by a sort of central (now global) planning.
The environmentalists ask for immediate political action because they do not believe in the long-term positive impact of economic growth and ignore both the technological progress that future generations will undoubtedly enjoy, and the proven fact that the higher the wealth of society, the higher is the quality of the environment. They are Malthusian pessimists.
The scientists should help us and take into consideration the political effects of their scientific opinions. They have an obligation to declare their political and value assumptions and how much they have affected their selection and interpretation of scientific evidence.
Does it make any sense to speak about warming of the Earth when we see it in the context of the evolution of our planet over hundreds of millions of years? Every child is taught at school about temperature variations, about the ice ages, about the much warmer climate in the Middle Ages. All of us have noticed that even during our life-time temperature changes occur (in both directions).
Due to advances in technology, increases in disposable wealth, the rationality of institutions and the ability of countries to organise themselves, the adaptability of human society has been radically increased. It will continue to increase and will solve any potential consequences of mild climate changes.
I agree with Professor Richard Lindzen from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who said: “future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early 21st century’s developed world went into hysterical panic over a globally averaged temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree, and, on the basis of gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to contemplate a roll-back of the industrial age”.
The issue of global warming is more about social than natural sciences and more about man and his freedom than about tenths of a degree Celsius changes in average global temperature.

The prize has been a sham for many years. After all, what did Yasser Arafat ever do in the name of peace?
I think we all knew from the moment Gore’s name was mentioned as a nominee which way this was going to end up playing out …
Just continues to show how ridiculous these awards have become …
I guess if you’re a big enough cry-baby loser these organizations take pity on you … after all … he does hail from the party of vicitimization … I’m sure that affiliation pushed him up the list in their eyes …
There is no longer anything “Noble” about getting a “Nobel”
is he going to get a theme song too a la Mrs. Clinton? I nominate Nelly’s “It’s getting hot in heeeeerrrrre!…so take off all your clothes……..”…..ick……..can only imagine it’s going go get worse before it gets better…
#1 — “…what did Yasser Arafat ever do in the name of peace?”
He died.
Even a dolt like me can see that the weather always changes; it always will. If the climate gets too cold in Mexico City, the people there will move to a cooler place. (Quick, advertise cool climates in Argentina!)
If it gets hot here in Texas – hot is what my men and women in combat feel, it’s only warm here in Big D – I’ll move or dig a hole.
Someone make Gore leave us alone, please!!
Al Gore can offset this!
Take your meaningless trinket and ram it, clown.
Can we amend the Constitution, bring over Vaclav Klaus and nominate him for president? He doesn’t believe in global warming and is adamant about the free market.
Or one day, I may just take me and the fam to Czech Republic.
Al’s in good company. He can now stand beside the brokeback terrorist and the man who legitimized Islamic terrorism, brought the US 20% interest rates, and sold the African continent out to thugs and tyrants.
Seems to be a theme here for recent Nobel awards, the meme being a connection to terrorism and hatred of the US. Too bad Saddam was executed, otherwise he would probably have been in the running.
Q: Why did Al Gore get the Nobel Peace Prize?
A: Because the scientific prizes require proof and accuracy.
I think you forgot your /sarc tag Jeff.
What else would the White House do?
Prediction:
The 2008 Nobel Peace Prize
jeffshultz, nice…
It’s perfect.
He and Jimmy Carter can get together and compare.
“Mine’s smaller.”
“No, mine’s smaller.”

Thanks for nothing, Al…
I understand he’s required to give a speech to pick up the prize and the money. What a twisted piece of propaganda that’s going to be. Look for the text in a few days or weeks at nobel.se
The Nobel Peace Prize for Hysteria. Much better ring to it.
Defector01: What else? a) ignore it, b) say “that’s nice” c) say “We strongly disagree with awarding a peace prize for something that has nothing to do with peace” d) Issue a statement that says “please see Michelle Malkin’s blog for why this award is a sham”. Lots of options. I’m sure people more creative than me could come up with a whole lists of wonderful responses.
This is disgusting! The White House wasted one more opportunity to expose Al Gore and the left-wing-whackos for what they are: Lying, hypocritical, elitists who hate America.
It’s another of the “Awards for Friends” Club…just like the Oscars, etc. Nothing like a bunch of self-righteous prigs boasting about how great they are to one another. The new self-appointed pseudo-patricians.
Czech president Vaclav Klaus and US President George Bush, Jr. are politicians. Pols believe the strangest things. The President of South Africa doesn’t believe HIV causes Aids. The President of the United States is not sure whether he believes in evolution.
Meanwhile, if current trends continue, “Glacier” national park will be a dry rock in ten years (google this news story if interested). Making fun of Al Gore’s weight gain or ponderous voice will not change that.
You still believe in evolution? Dude! Evolution is a Big Lie and an agenda driven myth. I know it, you know it.
Message to the White House – Shame on you.
Propogating this farce may be courtly but it is not honorable coddling a fraud.
That’s what glaciers do. They were not always here. This is what you guys refuse to believe. The planet is a dynamic thing, not a static thing. The current climate is only several thousand years old and has always been in flux. The earth was once a vast jungle like place with the ocean as far in as Utah. Then, suddenly (at least suddenly in terms of time for the universe) it got very cold and the planet was an ice cube. That’s whne there were no more dinosaurs and instead we had mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers. Again, suddenly it warmed up and the glaciers receded creating such wonderful places as Yosemite. And you know what? Mammoths DID NOT DRIVE SUV’s!!!!
For you environazis to continue to be so myopic as far as the way the planet works speaks volumes as to how conceited you are about man. To think we as a species have so much influence on a body that has existed and sprung forth and shaken off various forms of life over the mellenia is the utmost in conceit. Get over yourselves. The earth was here billions of years before us and will shake us off like a bad habit one day and exist for billions of more years after us. What we do or don’t do will have no effect. And it certainly does not deserve a peace award for spreading fear and panic by lying and exagerrating.
I believe in evolution. I also believe that algore is one of the biggest idiots on the planet. I hope he lives a long life so he gets to see everything he has said and done be seen for what it is. Lies and fantasy.
lgm: You are right. People believe the strangest things. It’s not limited to pols. From the list of pols which you gave, some of the things they believe or question appear to be absolutely correct, some not. I don’t think you have a corner any more that I do on what ultimately will prove to be correct. Included in “what ultimately will prove to be correct” and beliefs…looking up something with a search engine (google or not) does not make it correct.
I did too, until I ran headlong into facts. Until someone finds some trans-species fossils, of which their should be BILLIONS if evolution were to be a viable theory, let’s not pretend evolution is fact. It’s not even a plausible theory.
Since lgm cited Thabo Mbeki’s disbelief that HIV causes AIDS, I should point out that there has yet to be a Nobel science award on this matter because the research has proven to be inconclusive. Indeed, ten years ago, Dr. Luc Montagnier, co-discoverer of HIV, admitted to a French science reporter that he had been unable to isolate a pure specimen of the virus. At the same time, a team of Australian doctors discovered some sixty-odd conditions that could generate a false-positive on an HIV test, including malaria, pregnancy and a flu shot. No wonder the good doctors at the Karolinska Institute have been wary about handing out their precious Nobel Medicine Prizes for research on AIDS, as they did for research on Mad Cow Disease.
Schweggie, you did not run into facts. You ran into the lack of facts. It IS a fact that algore is an idiot. On that I believe we can agree.
Bush is not a true Republican.
He’s a shameless sham.
LOL, I stand corrected.
And Gayle, Bush IS a true modern day Republican, NOT a conservative. But a shameless sham, yes, just like the Goracle.
The nominating committee would not be invited to the best events if they decided any other way.
Ok I am going off theme only once.
Scientific Fact: Virchow’s LAW (not theory) of Biogenesis. There has never been in the observable universe, that humans can point to much less see replicated, one case of sponataneous generation. Not one! That is, living matter spontaneously generating from non-living matter. Without spontaneous generation you cannot have evolution…and if it happened once, and on the scale that evolution claims, then it should be an easily observable and naturally occuring phenomena.
This is science folks.
You don’t like creation, fine. Find something else, but don’t pander the religion of evolution as science.
For those interested in the subject of irreducible complexity, read “Drawin’s Black Box”, by Dr. Michael Behe
I don’t know about everybody else – but way back in 3rd grade we were taught that science was a 4 step thing: 1) have a hypothesis, 2) make an experiment to test hypothesis, 3) observe results, 4) draw conclusions. As far as I can tell, evolution is step 1. I’m still waiting on the rest.
OOOPPs Darwin’s NOT Drawin’s.
Augustine is NOW back on theme.
Algore and the Nobull Peas Prize.
All this talk about Al running for Prez again—I think if he got elected he’d be hated more than Bush is by the left, but this time by the right. Let’s hope he has the good sense not to run. Heh!! Of course he hasn’t!!!!
On the day that we learn that Lt. Mike Murphy is finally going to receive the Medal of Honor, the MSM speaks only of Al Boring and his feaux award. What a joke.
IMHO, Al Gore is not worthy to live in a land where freedom is purchased with the blood of heroes like Mike, Danny, and Axe.
Put Gore inside his Gulfstream, fill the tanks, give him takeoff clearance; wait about 4 hours and refuse him landing clearance. Oh yeah, put only 2 parachutes in the cockpit.
Below are a list of the falacies that a UK judge ruled in the Gore film “An Inconvenient Truth”
The inaccuracies, according to the court, are:
The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government’s expert was forced to concede that this is not correct.
The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The court found that the film was misleading: Over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.
The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that it was “not possible” to attribute one-off events to global warming.
The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that this was not the case.
The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It turned out that Mr. Gore had misread the study: In fact four polar bears drowned, and this was because of a particularly violent storm.
The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream, throwing Europe into an ice age: The Claimant’s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.
The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.
The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt, causing sea levels to rise dangerously. The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.
The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting; the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.
The film suggests that sea levels could rise by seven meters, causing the displacement of millions of people. In fact, the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40 centimeters over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration.
The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand. The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim.
Watch, the next winner of the liberal Nobel prize will be a Clinton. No Republicans need apply. Carter is as complete a fool as I have ever seen. Gore is a propagandist. Clinton will win the “piece” prize for well something to do with “a piece of —”. If only Alfred Nobel, horrified by the destructive power of war, had known just how perverted his prize could become he would have committed suicide. What an embarrassment this thing has become in the hands of socialists.
Yes, they should. But like Michelle said and I agree on, they needs some gum balls (can you tell I like this – LOL?).
Gore is smarter than given credit for. He started his company, where he buys his carbon offsets from, before he release his film.
Would were we all that smart. While he is duping the world (except for us adults), he is getting rich on both sides of the issue and still adding more carbon (which is NOT a greenhouse gass) to the world than most small cities.
need.coffee.fingers.won’t.work
I believe those on the nominating committee and the decision makers for the award are in line to make some big$$ on this hoax. This was their way to justify global warming.Give a peace prize to a buffoon that has nothing to do with peace.I have talked to people who believe this rot and they are so sold on it that you cannot convince them otherwise, ever.
Well the problem that anAL GOREtentive has now is that the measurable data don’t fit his computer models…par exemplar: as atmospheric temperature rises a couple of degrees, the Arctic ice cap does melt more…but that same rise causes additional Antarctic precipitation and a more extensive ice cap…and on balance the likelihood of a slight drop in world ocean levels rather than the hysterically predicted rise in ocean levels and subsequent coastal flooding…this is verifiable by observing several low lying Pacific islands which were thought to be at risk of disappearing due to the predicted rise….and since there has been an actual measurable cessation of increase in the average overall global surface temperature for the last 9 yrs or so, both the oceanic and ice pack data are going to be throwing a king sized monkey wrench into the computer model projections that comprise the very premise and scenario that anAL GOREtentive is trying so peddle.. drastic rise in ocean levels and the resulting threat to low lying coastal areas and their populations….patience,my friends….we will yet see him exposed for the fool and fraud that we know him to be
The White House should have said that Gore is a lunatic and doesn’t know s _ _ t about any area of science. They’re setting us up for billions in global warming pork. Our tax dollars at work.
I’m almost looking forward to Hillary as long as Bush is out of the White House and I’m a Reagan conservative.
Absolutely disgusting!
I lost all respect and interest when Jimmah Cawtah and Arafat one it.
Now, the prize is a mere trinket.
The Bronze Medal of the Olympics has more respect and worth.
I have a pretty good picture of The Goracle at my place…I swiped it from Dean Barnett as punishment because he is leaving Townhall.
Feel free to swipe it from me…

I remember
having the c–p scared out of mebeing taught about the coming ice age, the mass species extinction in the next 20 years from global cooling, etc in grade school in the mid-70s. By Jr High, taught that it was all hype and not true. Now a generation later, my friends kids arehaving the c–p scared out of thembeing taught about global climate change, the mass species extinction in the next 20 years from global warming, etc. Yeah, I’m a bit skeptical. And by a bit, I mean I think it is utter horse squeeze and that history well shows that we have a dynamic climate that, no matter what we do, is going to warm, and cool and change.I much agree with the above poster who commented about the arrogance of those who believe this stuff. Man is not nearly powerful enough to destroy the planet although we may be capable of eliminating mankind. If we do, Mother Nature will blink, yawn, and in a century our greatest cities will be no more pristine than a jungle covered lost city in Central America.
I wonder if his acceptance speech will put the King of Sweden to sleep…
I saw where anAL GOREtentive has announced that he is donating his share of the Nobel Prize money to the Center for Climate Protection…some outfit that he founded….I am at a loss to find a term suitably descriptive for someone who thinks that he can ‘protect’ the entire climate of Earth….is that the ‘mother of all god complexes’ or what?
Al feels bad for all the money his family made in coal, and oil. Now, he will sale carbon offsets to you for a small fee.
It makes him feeeeel better, and more rich in MONEY.
At an event (that I attended) in South Carolina today, a reporter asked Giuliani for his thoughts on Gore’s Nobel Prize.
Giuliani was surprisingly complimentary of the former VP. Although he later clarified that he questioned the urgency of various catastrophic scenarios, Giuliani seemed to accept most of the controversial premises of the radical climate change proponents.
If anyone here wants four years of liberal appeasement, by all means vote for Giuliani in the upcoming primary.
AlohaGuy,
Since the Peace Prize ceremony takes place in Oslo, it’s the King of Norway whom Gore will put in a coma. It will be hard enough for the King of Sweden to stay awake when the scientists start expounding on their theories.
Look, if he can stop the melting of the ice caps, and so prevent the rising of sea level and save the coastal cities, think of how many lives will be saved. It reminds me of the biblical passage:
What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him ?
If you answer Al Gore, you are correct!
Didn’t Groucho Marx state, that he wouldn’t belong to any club, that would have him as a member…I don’t belong to the Al Gore club but I hear membership is wide open.
I do remember another “Good Book” God responding to Noah and stating NO more will I make War against Man by bringing a Great Flood and then God turned over his War Cup and a Rainbow appeared… This is the last time Man was threatened by a “Great Flood” this is why everyone claiming Katrina was brought on by God’s wrath was wrong.
Now the English came out and stated that 9 of Gore’s inconvienent truths from his “Good Book” were WRONG, how many other of his truths, were affected by those 9 truths being WRONG?
I don’t want to encourage Al Gore’s God Complex so I didn’t buy his book or watch his movie.
We shouldn’t let the repulsiveness of Al Gore interfere with weighing the probability of his message. Even if you find the probability of global warming low, the consequences if true should be alarming enough to give you pause, even if you’re an SUV driver needlessly wasting non-renewable resources and have in common with Al a certain repulsiveness.
Praise from the president who never met a liberal he didn’t like. What a yawn. But let’s look on the bright side: that is as good a definition of compassionate conservatism as we are ever likely to get.
If every nation gets the leadership it deserves, surely every party also gets the leadership it deserves.
