“The Ghost Whisperer” does right by our troops
I don’t watch the show, but blogger Huntress praises “The Ghost Whisperer” for a sensitive and accurate portrayal of our troops:
Tonite, I watched a special episode of Ghost Whisperer titled “Haunted Hero”.
It was a dramatic, touching, sad, moving, authentic, honorable, elegant, dignified, uplifting beautiful, emotional, and evocative tribute to our troops.
Mark Tyler Jacob plays Matt, a soldier who, after serving in Iraq, returns to Grandview with a medal in hand and to a heroes welcome, but who is haunted by noisy nightmares and deeply troubled by suppressed and confusing memories of the night he lost his men.
Those memories come to life for Melinda, a Ghost Whisperer, who finds herself experiencing that same fatal battle over and over.
In effect, Matt has brought the Iraq war home with him…
The cast and crew felt that the soldiers brought dignity, integrity, and honor to the episode. They got to meet real heroes, got to say thank you, and were forever changed…
Tonite, Hollywood done me proud.
It’s rare when Hollywood does right by the troops. Glad to help spread the word.

On a related note, TankerBabeLC gives a thumbs-up to Starbucks stores in the Memphis area:
I know there have been a lot of emails circulating over the past year or so about Starbucks not supporting our troops. Well…I can personally attest to the fact that isn’t true. At least not here in the Memphis metro area. They had a drive recently to collect coffee for our troops and collected 2500 – yes that’s TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED – TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED ONE POUND bags of coffee. Some of the coffee was purchased by patrons of the stores in town. The remainder was DONATED by the stores. Two Blackhawk helicopters flew down from Ft. Campbell, KY yesterday to pick up all of the coffee and send it on it’s way to deployed personnel.
At “my” local Starbucks most of the staff GIVES me a bag of coffee each week that I send on to Afghanistan and Iraq. The employees are given one bag gratus each week and they have been giving me their bags for months now.
So…………..if YOUR Starbucks doesn’t support our troops maybe you should find another Starbucks!!!

Two feel good stories!!!
IIIIIII like it!
Happy Sunday everyone…
I also watched that episode of “Ghost Whisperer.” It was a touching episode that thankfully did not get into the politics of the issue. Color me shocked
. I didn’t know though real Iraq and Afghanistan vets played the soldiers on the show! Good for the folks behind the show.
Yes! Again, more progress.
Hollyweird and Starbucks, I’m not a big fan of either but would like to say thanks to both.
Just a reminder, Christmas is coming and our troops will need more socks, more coffee, more DVDs… join me in mailing early!
Yes Yes Yes It was Inspiring. It brought me to tears. Jennifer Love Hewitt you did our troops RIGHT. God Bless all of you who put that episode together.
As a double shot – daily drinker of Starbucks coffee and frequent sender of packages to military family, friends, and OSOT referrals, I called SB Corp (can’t believe it was 5 years ago). A full diclosure of Starbuck’s support of our troops was sent to me. Also, the individual SB’s baristas have always given me coffee to send to “the soldiers”.
I must get shopping for Christmas items. They’ve got to be mailed the end of Oct. or the first of Nov. at the latest!
Our Starbucks in SC also participated in the coffee drive. I don’t know how much they sent, but I purchased two bags and I know that several others were doing the same thing while I was there.
As for the Ghost Whisperer, I didn’t watch it but I am very glad to learn that treated our military with the dignity and honor they deserve.
Add that to the 24 win last night and I’d say it’s been a pretty good weekend so far.
For anyone who may be interested, here’s a link to help out the troops overseas.

it’s about friggin time…
I’m with Gippergirl.
I can atest to the Starbucks. I only recently returned from a deployment. Now, it was in a fairly safe area, not the trenches of the war…but I did some volunteer work at the Chapel while I was there. One place the Chapel ran was a small coffee place for people to relax and get R and R. I stocked the place with donated coffee, candy, magazines, toiletries, etc. We saw lots of Starbucks coffee donated and coming straight from their company.
Just when you think Hollyweird could do no right – they turn on you – thank GOD!
Turn on us some more – PLEASE!
We need actors and actresses like in days of old. Bob Hope springs to mind – Bless his soul!
Wish I had seen it.
True Patriotism is awakening in this country, much to the chagrin of the anti-Americanists like the Code Pinko Pepto Dismal skanks.
Finally something being done not to dishonor the troops, I am impressed. If only Hollyweird can keep it up, but I doubt it. I am very pleasantly surprised at Starbucks for their contribution for the troops in harms way. I always thought most Starbucks were staffed by Liberal arts majors that couldn’t get a real job after spending 8-12 years in college. My hat is off to the good folks of Memphis and Starbucks.
I don’t watch the show, but was channel-surfing and paused when I saw soldiers. At first, I thought it was going to be just another PTSD soldier goes nuts storyline, but it wasn’t. It was a very positive, and heart-rending story. Kudos to the writers. I’d say it was emmy-worthy, but that would not do it justice. It was so much better than that.
It sure wouldn’t hurt to send letters thanking the people. We complain and write letters to/about the Fiberals so we should acknowledge when someone does something right. That way they know we are watching.
Doing the right thing used to be normal, but, since it no longer is let’s hope for more.
NEVER FORGET
We watched this and we were happily surprised at how this turned out. It’s good to see Starbucks step up to the plate again. A few years ago they did donate some coffee but I guess it depends on the location.
I’ve been watching Ghost Whisperer since it started.Silly premise, but well-made,classy show. The most decent show I’ve seen in a long time.
Living in La La Land for many moons, I was really surprised that the episode treated our soldiers with such respect. I have to guess that there must be some veterans involved in writing and/or producing it.
An aside – if you take the Universal Studios Tour, you will see the “town square” of that show, and might take a ride down Wisteria Lane.
Jennifer Love Hewitt may not have written the episode, but I do have to put in a word here that she has always struck me as a level-headed, sensitive soul. A friend once had a role as an extra on her PO5 spinoff “Time of Your Life” and said she was one of the most down to earth actresses he’d ever met. I bet the troops wouldn’t mind if she tagged along with Gary Sinise on one of his trips someday.
I watched the beginning of that GW episode thinking this was going to be another chance for Hollywood to bash the troops. The beginning premise is that he returns home with no memory of events, and is haunted by his men for what evidence indicates was an act of cowardice. By the end I was proud and deeply moved, as they truly did justice to our military.
Ghost Whisperer deserves all the kudos it gets for this.
