Stiiiiill going

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 15, 2007 10:11 PM

I’ve been writing newspaper columns for 15 years, writing books since 2002, and blogging since 2004. I’ve lost track of how many times the nutroots have gleefully declared my demise.

Oh, how they wish, wish, wish it were so!

The latest moonbat tempest in a teapot concerns an e-mail response I sent to readers over the weekend who have been asking about my absence from the O’Reilly Factor. I had received several hundred messages and it was wrong to keep ignoring long-time fans wondering what happened. I took the time to personally respond to each inquiry. It is an awkward situation, but I answered straightforwardly:

Thanks so much for your kind words. Much appreciated. I made the decision to quit appearing on the O’Reilly show in response to the poor handling of the Geraldo Rivera matter (in case you hadn’t heard, he threatened to spit on me because of my views about illegal immigration and his staged “apology” on The Factor was a complete farce). I won’t go into details, but please know that your support means a lot to me. You can catch me on other Fox News shows and read my daily blog posts and weekly columns at MichelleMalkin.com.

I did not plan on blogging it and making a big to-do. It is what it is. But some blabbermouth apparently forwarded the e-mail to a cable TV gossip blog. The left-o-sphere picked it up from there (interesting how all of these same blogs ignored the spitting threat in the first place), now spreading wild rumors that I’ve been fired, concocting imaginary scenarios of tearful resignations, tinfoil-rattling in hopes that there’s some other conspiratorial reason behind my decision, falsely asserting that it was somehow related to my coverage of the S-CHIP debate, etc., etc., etc.

The funniest comment by far comes from far Left zealots who couldn’t possibly believe that I would walk away from more airtime since I am, of course, such a media whore.

Two words: Stop projecting.

Continue to knock yourselves out, loons! Always glad to provide therapeutic benefits. Indeed, for many, it’s just another golden opportunity to wish out loud for my death or rape. See, for example: Digg.

Maybe you will get your wish and I will get hit by a truck someday. Until then, I’ll keep writing. You keep hatin’.

The nutroots look for any and I mean any piece to twist fit their (as they say) “narrative”. That’s what the left is about, they are a bunch of children trying to write a play and searching for pieces to fit their narrative. They don’t deal in reality, they need to build a pretend world (the netroots) because they can’t handle reality.

I would wager anything that 9 out of 10 of the nutroot loons unraveling over you are not even aware of your successful print career.

There just worried that you might get your own show and crush their feckless hero Olbermann every night instead of just Fridays!

And O’Reilly seems to think the ONLY problem is ILLEGAL Criminaliens….I guess he doesn’t have to worry about someone taking his job or destroying his neighborhood…..Frankly he is too much of a fence sitter for me. 3) I do have TiVo, so if you are on any program, I can watch the segment you’re on - if it’s noted here or on Hot Air. I love TiVo - I can zip past commercials and Geraldo and other repulsive stuff.

Bill didn’t stand up for you strongly enough, and I’m sure he’ll regret it.

So I did miss something. Sorry to hear you won’t be doing the show, as you really seemed to be almost taking it over, which was great. Added even more to the show.

Now, I went over to the Digg site, as many of you did, and was just taken aback. I have seen so much of the hatred and racist, sexual comments before, but they really went above and beyond on this. What the Left has become is nothing short of criminal. To actively wish those things on a fellow human being, let alone someone who is an AMerican is beyond the pale and goes far beyond “Free Speech”. These are hate crimes pure and simple, and some are incitements towards violence.

This comment I think summed it all up:

She should not be allowed to express her opinions. Jan 2009 can’t come soon enough. Once we get Democrats in control of the Presidency and both houses of congress we’ll finally be able to quiet these right-wing loons up. Hopefully the wingnuts will be thrown in prison for their offensive speech. The thought of Limbaugh, Malkin, Coulter, et al in a prison cell makes me giddy. VOTE HILLARY 08!!!!!

Not only is this person denying Michelle’s right to speak, but is actually thinking and hoping that Conservatives will get thrown in prison, all the while decrying what Conservatives say, yet not once looking at what she was saying. Yes, I believe the comment was from a female.

This is what the Internet age has brought us. It has brought these hatefilled, horrid people a way to congregate and help each other. They have learned how to hate and then slap each other on the back and congratualate each other for what they feel is a job well done in the quest for…well I really don;t know what. My brain does not function in the same way. it is like trying to think like a criminal. Unless you are one, you have no idea how to do it.

So, all you Liberal trolls that comment here, congrats. you associate with some real winners of huiman beings. These are the ones who are “making a difference” in this country and the people they elect and vote for do NOTHING to stop this. They are your voice. You can deny being like them all you want, but the “guilt by association” hangs on you like a cheap suit, and your credibility is nil.

Michelle, so happy to hear you are in charge of your Fox appearances. Much of O’Reilly show has degraded to him patting himself on the back but his recent alliance with Geraldo, Jackson, and Shapton is testimony to his pandering for ratings not to mention him and ReGreta Van Cistern working on the resurrection of Anna Nicole Smith for ratings. Who watches such trash is beyond me but it works for O’Reilly (he thinks). Laura Ingraham hung a horse on O’ the other night regarding the authenticity of Gore winning the Peace Prize (as O’ so ably demonstrated how little he actually knows). The guy needs people like you and Laura to tell him what the hell is going on besides him in a hand basket. With his little skits he is down to nothing…e-mail Laurie Dhue about O’ then watch a segment when the both kiss his ass or lets rerun the talkies and see how they move, or lets have a nice dose of left wing in·tel·li·gent·si·a from Bill Maher (me no like Bill Maher long time). Seriously, it is quite a principled stand to walk away from occasional hosting duties for the network’s flagship program, and it should be commended. I suspect that values are a rare commodity in that industry and probably confused management. Ya’ know I was wondering where you were! But it never occurred to me you were fired. Your integrity goes before you Michelle. I knew you walked away from it. And with that in mind, I was so completely disappointed that O’Reilly stood by that emotional windbag rather than you.

Of course I was diasappointed when FNC stooped so low as to hire him in the first place. When I’d see him on O’Reilly, I figured Bill HAD to put him on to plug Geraldo’s show for FNC. But once I saw the lame Larry King style apology, O’Reilly lost all his credibility with me. I haven’t watched him since.

Geraldo is like a 7 year old who runs at the mouth, says anything that pops into his emotionally charged brain, and then when he gets in trouble for it, he lies and schmoozes to get out of a spanking.

FNC just hired him for war time sensational entertainment. Steve Harrigan was the REAL wartime journalist out there. And he wasn’t giving away our troops location. Funny, once the sensationalism of bombs flying died down, FNC didn’t quite know what to do with Mr. G. So they stuck him on late Saturday nights. Isn’t that for started journalists ~ not longtime, bigtime names???

They know the score. They have too. But I imagine they have a contract with him and they know if they break any part of it, he’ll go whining to some judge and make a media circus out of it.

    Dear Michelle,

Ok. We don’t know all the circumstances, but if you let a jerkoff like Geraldo keep you off the Factor, he wins. His agenda wins.

Although articles, blogging and books are effective communication media, the Factor gave you an audience which you might not otherwise have.

Case in point: the only thing my wife hears about you is the standard MSM garbage. But one Friday evening she had the opportunity to watch you on the Factor and she is reconsidering many of her opinions on immigration, not to mention her opinion of you: MM is so much different than I had heard! (No kidding!)

MM you are a unique talent. But your uniqueness is dwarfed by the significance of your message. Illegal Immigration. Health Care. Supporting Our Troops. These are existential questions which our Nation.

The number of pundits who are able to effectively communicate what conservatives believe AND get people to listen to them is fewer than one might imagine.

    Picture this, if you will:

Progressive commentator and blogger Arianna Huffington, a regular guest on political talk-shows, was threatened by Right-Wing Political Talk Show Host Sean Hannity during an interview with a prominent newspaper.

During the interview, Hannity was asked about Huffington, to which he replied, ”
Arianna Huffington is the most vile, hateful commentator I’ve ever met in my life. It’s good she’s in D.C. and I’m in New York,” Hannity sneers. “I’d spit on her if I saw her.”

If THIS had been the case, there would have been protests in front of Fox News Headquarters, round-the-clock talk show vigils and calls for Hannity’s head on a platter.

But …since Michelle is conservative and Geraldo is carrying the water for liberal causes such as illegal immigration, this was all just swept under the rug. Now the only story is how Michelle quit/was fired/ran away, etc… but never a supportive comment for a woman who was threatened by a vain a-hole like Geraldo. ( Maybe if he would have called her a ‘Nappy-Headed Ho’, someone would have rallied to her support….ehh…probably not ).

Geraldo, and unfortunately the majority of our politicians in DC have made it clear that ‘crime does pay’. What a message to give millions of ‘new citizens’ to the US.

It is not a right to come here, it is a privilege, just like it is in countries all over the world. Geraldo’s accusation of racism was offensive and per usual meant to discontinue the debate, not further it.

They had a grand opportunity to say, “Hey, we’re different than the rest!” by formally reprimanding or firing Geraldo. By doing nothing, they have instead become a bit more like the rest. Your TV appearances will be missed, but it’s clear you’ve made the right call.

I’d love to see you get your own primetime show one of these days. He follows “approval numbers” very closely, and adjusts some of his positions to maintain his so-called “independant” image that is very calculated. He does lambaste the libs, but when he sees that he’s being perceived as “right wing”, he attacks something to prove he’s not with the right. Very McCain-esque of him. The BigOilConspiracy stories he does, insisting that Iraq is a “disaster”, and his continued support of Geraldo, no matter how offensive he gets, while bashing Ann Coulter at the same time.

If he can’t decide who’s more worthy of backing between Geraldo and Michelle, then I just cannot back him. Many of the other shows on FNC will benefit from Michelle’s participation. Now that the new Fox Business Network is up and running, there should be some open slots on FNC.

If Roger Ailes is paying attention, he will give Michelle her own show. It’s about time.

    HotAir TV /w Michelle Malkin!

Michelle: I am with you 100%. The personality of, and represented by, Geraldo Rivera is so infuriating that I change the channel whenever he is on the O’Reilly Factor.

For what it is worth my evaluation of Geraldo is that his intellectual capacity, as displayed on television, is equal to the contents of Al Capone’s ’secret vault’ that Mr. Rivera so pompously opened on network television many years ago. His arguments are based in idealized emotions rather than facts or realism.

I am really disappointed in O’Reilly. He of all people should have been the first to hold Geraldo’s feet to the fire.

They made their decision, they can live with it. Their loss!

The O’rilly segments with you will not be missed much. I usually had to spend too much time trying to mentally filter out the rants as whoever else was on kept yakking over you in rude fashion. Hopefully future appearances on other shows will be better managed by the host. Better yet, you need your own show.

I’d never consciously thought about it before, but since Michelle hasn’t been on the Facttor lately, I haven’t seen that particular program.

I only made a point of watching when it was “The Malkin Factor.”

Your choice is the Factor’s loss and ours. I’d hoped that Rivera’s apology on that progam, which I saw, would’ve been sufficient.

    You’ll be missed.

Just do me a favor, Michelle, and try to give as much advance notice of when you’re going to be on other FNC program segments, hmm? You wouldn’t want to send a devoted fan into withdrawal rehab, would you…?

Michelle, I agree with many other’s here. I would love to see you with your own show on FOX.

I quit watching Bill O. a few months back during the Paris Hilton debacle. He kept saying ‘Why are people reporting on this!’, then he went right along and kept reporting it himself! That was enough for me.

However, I view your site everyday (when I’m at work I’ve always got a browser window open on it.)

I don’t think this hurts Michelle at all but it is a loss for factor viewers. I’m sure O’reilly will find she is irreplaceable.”

I don’t know what to say. I was going to post, then wasn’t going to post, then I was again. Well, now I will.

While I’m sorry to see you go from your regular appearances on Fox, I suspected that your sudden absence had something to do with the handling (or should I say non-handling?) of the Geraldo crap. I didn’t e-mail to inquire, but I thought the reason would come out soon enough. Just in time too, because I keep checking back on Mondays to see if you’re there. If not, I go somewhere else because O’Reilly is getting to be too much to stomach for an entire hour. He seems to think very highly of himself these days. Even more so than before. Put Bill and Geraldo together and nausea sets in. Geraldo is such a hack, and I just don’t understand why he isn’t laughed out of newsrooms. Well, now I watch neither. The entertaining segments are becoming few and far between. I can’t even watch Hannity and Colmes anymore either. Hannity hasn’t changed his questions for guests in months. Alan? Well he personifies a constipated liberal, and I’d really like to knock that eyebrow right off his head.

I honestly think that due to the ever growing size of O’Reilly’s ego, when he was forced to deal with the Geraldo incident, he had to side with Geraldo because he is of absolutely no threat to Bill. Consequently, I would imagine episodes with Michelle as the guest host drew a larger share. I know I never missed them. Then there was clamoring for a show of her own on Fox. Bill couldn’t have any of that since he’d likely be reassigned eventually. So his siding with Geraldo and not demanding his ouster, or forcing a sincere apology in turn forced Michelle’s hand. I certainly wouldn’t have stayed, nor would I expect you to. Your own show at Fox may come out of this. Management is not stupid there, so I expect them to pursue you before someone else grabs you (and you know they will). Your voice is too important, especially at this time because you, and less than a handful of others are the only people with a platform who don’t put up with the BS, and challenge every bit of it.

We don’t have to worry about what will happen to you because you’ll be just fine. I’m sure there will be even more options than before. I will miss seeing your face almost daily, but I’ll also be looking forward to seeing you when you reappear even larger than before.

    Good luck!

Not being a Factor Fan… I can’t say as I will ‘miss you’. I don’t watch it anyway.

I can say that I think you will be better off walking away from it. You don’t need the stress or the BS. Jerry the mustached one is just a loser. If Fox had 2 cents of common sense they would dump him. And if they happened to give you your own show… weeeelllll ;-)

Keep up the great work here on the blog. And try to let the great hate wave just wash over and not get to you. Sometimes some mental distance is what you need. Kudos to you for calling it quits.

I liked it when you hosted The Factor Michelle, and your appearances there.

However, unrelated to the “spit” words, I have never been an admirer of Geraldo’s. I’ve never been able to figure out WHY Fox had him on the network.

You only have to be married 2 or 3 times before you lose credibility with me, Geraldo’s been married FIVE times! That is just UGH. Okay there are about 10 other reasons I find him slimy but that is too long to list.

So, I turn the station away from FOX when he comes on, I always have something else to do when his weekend shows are on and I can’t figure out why FOX keeps him!?

It’s sad that it came to this, but it’s understandable on your part. Obviously, Geraldo’s personal belongings should be placed in a cardboard box and placed at the curb, but that didn’t happen. You took the high road. I hope that perhaps you’ll get your own show, as you’ve proven you’ve got the grit and wits to succeed. I don’t watch television, so I wouldn’t have ever noticed, but I’m sure those who do are sad to see you go.

I’m sorry to see you gone from The Factor. I would have thought you would have stood your ground instead of just rolling over due to a threat of being spit upon as written in a print article (your always repeating much worse here). Being called vile would have bothered me much more than the spit threat but that’s just me. Neither would have caused me to take my toys and go home. What happened to the lion of a woman we always here about, the one who stands her ground, does not submit. Now we are left watching body language and trivia segments. Creepy. Be thankful they haven’t replaced you with Cindy Sheehan or even Sally Fields.

    Ms. Malkin,

You have always conducted yourself with dignity, and I say this as somebody who disagrees with you on one of your main signature issues.

You sent me 2 emails, and they were very respectful in nature. Unless somebody hacks my computer, the content of those emails will stay and die with me.

I have even improved the quality of my blog by observing your blog in terms of comments.

I give commenters wide latitude, but do not allow profanity or personal attacks (unless the two people agree to duel, perhaps I am too lenient).

I guess what I am saying I have learned from you, and am glad your site exists.

Anyway, I honestly did not notice you had left O’Reilly, and hope that you and he patch things up, if patching is needed or required.

Good luck in your endeavors, and much success to you.

    Respectfully,

Michelle, I have great respect for you & can understand your not wanting to work in an environment in which you were clearly treated very badly. However, there’s another way to look at this. Geraldo’s behaving like even more of a jerk than usual (the spit comment & the non-apology) has accomplished the very thing he’d undoubtedly been wanting: it succeeded in getting you off The Factor.

Again, your decision is understandable, especially if there are extenuating circumstances.

Michelle, I thorougly enjoyed watching you on The Factor. Truth be told, those were pretty much the only nights I tuned in, after seeing mention of your appearance posted on the blog.

Any clear thinking person knows what Geraldo is, look at his shock show past and antics. You just keep up the common sense, conservative message and we will be there listening.

Now, as a side note, I wouldn’t mind seeing you get your own news show on Fox of the evening. Our household would definitely be tuning in for the broadcast. Best wishes!
