The curse of Larry Craig
U.S. Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho appealed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals on Monday in his ongoing attempt to withdraw his guilty plea in connection with an arrest in an airport bathroom sex sting.
Craig’s appeal was filed at the court in St. Paul less than two weeks after Hennepin County Judge Charles Porter refused to overturn the guilty plea, saying it “was accurate, voluntary and intelligent, and … supported by the evidence.”
Craig, a Republican, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in August after he was accused of soliciting sex in a bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in June.
The four-page filing did not detail the basis for the appeal.
In an interview on Sunday with KTVB-TV in Boise, Idaho, Craig repeated he will not resign his post in the Senate and said he had the right to pursue his legal options.
“It is my right to do what I’m doing,” said Craig. “I’ve already provided for Idaho certainty that Idaho needed — I’m not running for re-election. I’m no longer in the way. I am pursuing my constitutional rights.”
But legal experts have predicted Craig would have a hard time winning on appeal.
“What’s the likelihood of success? Even less likely of prevailing in the appeal than he had in prevailing before Porter,” Steve Simon, a legal defense expert at the University of Minnesota Law School, said earlier this month.

It’s my legal stance, and it’s a wide one!
“Senator Larry Craig Plays Footsie with the Legal System”
“Your honor, may I see you in ‘Chambers’?”
“Senator Craig Tires Another Stall Tactic”
Trys not Tires, sigh….OK enough for now.
Would you believe…I’m giving up after two misspellings of the same word.
Reminds me of the old Motley Crue song-Craig don’t go away mad, just go away.
I always say that We The People continue to elect the most narcissistic people on the planet to Congress and the White House.
We have no one to blame but ourselves.
Would it be wrong of me to wonder aloud if an investigation should be started as to why Craig wants to remain in power so much? What kind of other shady-ness is in his closet?
In closet? Tap shoes of course.
STOP!! We keep losing our creeps & criminals but THEY keep theirs!
It’s time Republicans demand a criminal swap: for every Republican thug that gets caught, the Demofascists will have to give up one of theirs. It’s only fair to keep it even.
Well, Craig is a disingenuous creep, but he does appear to have only come to a recent understanding that you can be a flithy moral reprobate convict and still serve in the US Senate.
Too bad for him he’s not a Democrat, though.
Just another politician who likes to abuse power.
a total disgrace
Look for Craig to change parties so that he can keep his senate seat. The Dems only out people on the other side.
Doesn’t the party have some means for tossing out people like him?
THESE are the kinds of ‘conservative Republicans’ that make Rudy’s claim of being Republican look almost accurate.
I’m not all about the ‘religious right’ so to speak. But I do wish there was a conservative party to offset the liberal values of the Democrats.
As it stands he seems to have taken conservative stances on votes. But this and the Foley case are hardly ‘conservative’ in nature.
There needs to be a conservative party.
There will be as soon as politicians can figure out how to mine gum balls and get the tax payer to fund the operation. After politicians figure out how to waste the tax dollars, it will be cost prohibitive for Republican politicians to acquire said gum balls. Of course, some of the Republican politicians will latch on to some gum balls only to have to admit later that the gum balls belong to someone else. There may even be an occasion where a Republican will get some brass gum balls like Kennedy’s but will get caught having someone polishing them, admit they were guilty and remembering they are brass and denying the whole ordeal.
Its just a stall.
It will take more than 100 days for both sides get to submit their legal briefs.
The Court of Appeals will not make a decision for another six months after that.
There will be no decision until the fall of 2008.
The probability that the Court of Appeals will find that the trial court abused his discretion in finding that Senator Craig knowingly and intelligently plead guilty, 0.00000000000000000000001%
I honestly don’t care if Senator Craig is gay or not, but he ALREADY said he would resign, and then he goes back on his word!
Typical crap-weasel!
I think he should resign, but if he were Democrat this wouldn’t even have been a story in the MSM, and no one would be asking him to resign.
The only reason liberals want him gone is because he is against gay “marriage.” If you believe in gay “marriage” they applaud this type of gay behavior in bathrooms. If you don’t, they make it into a scandal.
What ever happened to simply living a decent life by example? Isn’t that the purest definition of leadership? This “leader” should now get out of the way. Time to take the tarnish off of the Congress by cleaning it out.
NOW!
Larry Craig makes my skin crawl. His influence has become so warped I find myself standing at the urinal with heels together.
While I don’t think Craig is the Great Satan, both he and the Frosts failed to learn the same basic truth. Choices you make sometimes come back and bite you in the backside.
Heh, you said “stall”.
me thinks Larry doth protest too much.
“Happy Feet” Craig needs to go now. I was talking to several of my Idaho neighbors about him this weekend. We don’t care about his orientation, but we do care that he is a lying crapweasel that promised to resign and did not. Many of us and me included feel he is an embarrassment to the State and citizens of Idaho.
To be honest Id take one Larry for a Boxer and a Feinstein.
I’ll raise you a Kennedy and Kerry!
And I’ll trump ya with a Pelosi!
I’ll call with the empty skirt, Stabenow and librarian glasses, Karl(carl? actually, don’t know the spelling of his first name, don’t care, either) Levin..
