So, Crosby & Nash when was the last time you had a hit record? Saw this on Newsbusters.org last night. It was unbelievable what I was hearing but at the same time wondered why I was shocked at this. Crosby is just oh so wonderful though as the “sperm donor” for Melissa Etheridge’s children so of course he has moral authority. His spawns won’t ever volunteer for military service yet he condescends to those who do. You know as a vet and family member I really don’t like their condscension and neither does my hubby. They can call the troops losers in a way without doing it saying their obviously stupid enough to buy into the idea of patriotism.

These so called celebrities are so insulated from reality it is not even funny. Add old age and lots of chemicals, you have an old fool like David Crosby. Add middle age and lots of chemicals, you have a damn fool like Bruce Springsteen! What a bunch of overpaid boobs! Lemme get this straight:

David Crosby is a hippy-singer from the 60’s who had so many drug and alcohol addiction problems that he’s lost count, but we’re supposed to listen to him.

Rush Limbaugh has been a student of politics and commentary for 20 years, and he’s supposed to be discounted because he had a back injury and got addicted to pain pills for a while – and the left still calls him a drug-addict?

I’m not surprised that Crosby and Nash (and Matthews) had hippy-flavored peacenik 1960’s counter-culture views. I noticed more that they have the role of the church backward. Church are not to represent their parishioners to governments and such, but to transmit their beliefs about God and how He wants us to live to their parishioners. To some extent, that also involves representing their doctrine to governments as well. But such representation is to be of its doctrine, not any popular sentiment for its own sake.

Bless you and your child Terri. Might I suggest we use the word Liberal? About the same IQ as a DS child with nowhere near the love to share. I’ve never met a DS child that didn’t unconditionally love everyone.

And as far as Crosby et. al. a non issue as far as I’m concerned. My grandpa used to say “don’t go to a plumber for medical advise and don’t go to a doctor for plumbing advise”.

So, don’t go to a burned out has been entertainer (or even a current hot item entertainer for that matter) for economic, military or social advise, and don’t go to an economist, a General or a diplomat for entertainent (although politicians frequently make for good entertainment).

These things do happen, on both sides. Personally I can’t see all the sacrifice being worth it. Pretty much like Vietnam, I would say, with people dying and getting maimed for nothing in the end.

I would probably count CSN among my favorite acts of my adolescence and young adulthood, but it’s getting harder and harder to motivate myself to pull out those CDs when songs like Graham Nash’s “Cathedral” (”so many people have died in the name of Christ that I can’t believe it all”) c.1977 are drowned out in emotional impact for me now by the works of artists like Casting Crowns and Jeremy Camp. It is the truest example to me of how someone in the public eye espousing their anti-American, anti-military sentiment has ruined my taste for music I used to love. This interview sums it all up.

    I understand what your’re saying.

(”Cathedral” for me is among CSN’s
“later” stuff. Bought it ’cause my new bride & I figured we’d check out their 1st? “comeback”. Yep, I remember it was called their “comeback” in 1977. Oh, well….)

Anyway, I feel so much of the music from the mid 60s to the early 70s was terrific.
It’s among the few good things, if not best, only good thing, that came out of the disastrous 60s.

(Civil rights was moving along steadily in the 50s – from what I’ve read by the always excellent Thomas Sowell.)

    I “came of age” with Buffalo Springfield, Cream, Hendrix, CSN and CSN&Y (first few albums only), Neil Young (first few albums only), Motown when it sounded like Motown, Derrick & the Dominos, Zeppelin, Who;
and a host of bands who started out sounding terrific, but then became what they became, such as Santana, Steppenwolf, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Traffic (not “Winwood” and not the mid-90s reunion album), Aerosmith, and Steve Miller Band, to name some.

‘Course, there’s also the one-hit and few-hit wonders.

I manage to enjoy the excellent music and the memories they evoke, while separating my mind from the cultural and societal disaster the 60s ushered in; and from the imbecilic statements of burnt-out clowns.

Fools like David Crosby yet again prove the wisdom of Lincoln’s saying, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

    Enjoy the music!
