Randi Rhodes wasn’t mugged, Air America credibility plunges to NYTimes stock-level depths

The real story:
Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.
Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.
“Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?” he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. “Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?”
A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan’s 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.
Rhodes’ lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she’s not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a “hate crime.”
The nutroots are sorely disappointed. But the truth isn’t likely to stop them from believing that it’s the Reich-wing’s fault.

Air America released a statement saying that “the reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded.” Elliott followed that up with a retraction.
“I shouldn’t have speculated based on hearsay that Randi Rhodes had been mugged and that it may have been an attack from a right wing hate machine. I apologize for jumping to conclusions based on an emotional reaction,” he said in a written statement.

From my experience in law enforcement the most likely scenario is she was involved in domestic violence in her own or someone elses apartment. Whether a male or female lover is not known. The truth will come out sooner or later as there is too much scrutiny to hide it. The next likely cause was being intoxicated on alcohol or drugs. why else make up a phony story? Michelle we love you. Rush Limbaugh referenced you positively today on his program in the same light as himself of being blamed by the loons of the left for some reason, I believe over the SCHIP issue. Re: Hate crimes. Some states, I believe, list political affiliation as a protected class for hate crime purposes, but not New York. The attorney’s use of that term as inaccurate at best, misleading at worst.
But, boy, it sure is stupid to throw out reckless speculation about possible motivations to an incident, isn’t it? Could turn out to be totally wrong, and then you just end up looking silly and/or like a conspiracy nut.

In the Columbia incident people started speculating that it may be some kind of inside job after the administration there began acting in a very suspicious manner. Tell the truth now: if the Young Republicans had security footage of people throwing pies at Ann Coulter and refused to turn it over wouldn’t you think it a bit odd?
In this case, on the other hand, Ms. Rhodes had barely hit the pavement before the usual crowd of moonbats at Kos began thinking that rabid right-wingers had taken to physically assaulting relatively obscure left-wing pundits. As though random acts of violence were unheard of in New York City.
Do you honestly see those being similar circumstances? Because if you do I really have to question your ability to reason.

Passing hate crime legislation is akin to establishing “drug-free” or “gun-free” zones; or to yet another U.N. resolution.

I went on Kos and read more about this and honestly, On My Soapbox is correct; I’ve never seen such language as that on this site or on any other “conservative” sites. It’s frightening really. I used to teach in the public schools and while I’ll admit to typing too fast and not hitting the “preview” key a few times, I do know how to speak correctly and write correctly. When I used to grade some of my US History papers I would add grammar suggestions, etc., well I got called on the carpet for it and was told I was not an English teacher and that correcting grammar was not my job. It appears these “Kos Kids” were not well served by their teachers while in school, be they public or private.

I certainly appreciate the lack of profanity here and at other conservative sites. It’s a welcome change from every liberal site I’ve ever visited. Accidentally found this creep on the radio one Saturday afternoon and she was harping about how the American fighter and Israel had combined to MURDER MILLIONS of innocent muslims over the years. I would not wish anything bad on her but, could it be karma kicking in after all of her ugly, hate filled, oliver stone/john carpenter styled treasonous lying over the years ? It’s kinda like when my 11 year old said he’d call the cops if I touched him. Well, all I can say is, I’m still here, and yes, he did get “touched”. Sometimes justice is unavoidable.

So please, if any of the aides for any of the Republican candidates are reading any of these comments, please tell your candidate to expose these people. Take the damn gloves off and “fight them there so we don’t have to fight them here”. You would win hands down, and they would be sent packing so fast they wouldn’t know what hit them.

1.) My bmw convertible had a white oval W’04 sticker on it. Shortly after I moved here, some moonbat took their key and keyed out the W on the sticker, thus leaving several deep scratches on my car.
2.) 6 mos later my SUV was parked in an open air parking lot. It had a Bush/Cheney ‘04 sticker on it. I’d had to park in the far left of the spot because the car on my right was parked in the far left their parking spot. I came out to a nasty gram stuck in my doorhandle saying “Learn how to park you F#&%in’ Bush Lover.”
THAT is factual moonbat (passive/aggressive MN style) thuggery. I know, most of you, particularly Michelle, have had much worse.

Well, I am glad AA at least apologized a bit. Seems a bit unnecessary as anyone who knows about all this is either a moonbat or laughing at them, but I suppose it was the right thing to do.

Chapter One: The Publicity Stunt
When ratings dip into the single-digits (listeners, not percentage points) create a non-event and blame the right. When confronted with truth, change the story. Roll your lawyer out to make the change.
Not only are they paranoid about the Right but, reading more of Elliott’s rant, he seems to think that the Right is threatened by them. That they are so important and influential that the “right wing hate machine” would need to “silence intimidate” them and took out some kind of hit on the chick. That we just obsess over the damage that they are doing to our causes.
Doesn’t he realize that he works for Air America? Who the heck is listening to them enough to feel threatened?
What hubris. What paranioa. What narcissism. What stupidity.
To be honest, before this incident I hadn’t ever even heard of Rhodes or Elliott.
The t-shirt is a great idea but I think you should leave Randi’s name off of it. Regardless of how you feel about her, she’s not responsible for all of the moonbats making accusations. She hasn’t said a word about it.

I saved a piece of AP wire copy years ago after the purple shroud-and-Nike-wearing suicides in SoCal because it said, (paraphrasing) “They were waiting for space aliens traveling behind a comet.” Never did it include the words “they believed (were traveling, etc)” making it somehow fact that aliens were indeed en route. The AA host’s apology mirrors that:
