Behind the TB-carrying frequent flier story
Sara Carter of the WashTimes chats with Hot Air’s Bryan Preston about the TB-carrying frequent flier from Mexico who crossed the border and racked up flying time with impunity. Several lawmakers are calling for an investigation.
Let’s hope it gets off the ground.

This will make for great holiday travel!!
Where are we safe?
Let’s hope the idiots in Congress focus on this instead of wasting time yapping about non-truths dealing with Rush Limbaugh.
The left will use this as another reason for open borders. They will say it just isn’t fair to deny these people free US health care, and until the rate of TB in the USA is equal to that in Mexico our “disease divisity’ will be woefully inadequate, racist, bigoted and discriminitory.
Public safety seems to be a concern only if politicians have a personal stake in it. Remember, you can’t get TB flying first class *cough*
Iraq.
Touche, aj, touche…
The Mexican government is totally responsible for this debacle. They have known for over 5 years and did nothing. They violated protocol established by the World Health Organization. They violated any agreements or understandings they had with the US on this issue.
Those 76 trips were 76 border crossings. They do not count the trips taken within the US after the infected man crossed the border.
I think the US at a minimum needs to stick Mexico with the bill, and if they do not pay, deduct it from any aid we provide to them. The bill would necessarily include the following:
1. The $500,000 treatment cost per person just to get the disease under control.
2. Reimbursement for anyone infected for lost wages, expenses and other costs for the 18 to 24 months it takes just to get the disease under control (read-to be non contagious to others);
3. The cost, which we are already undoubtedly incurring, of additional medical tests and other costs in the assessment of patients near any area the infected man visited to insure that a health care provider does not mistake this strain of TB for a lesser ailment;
4. All costs, including medical expenses, lost wages, follow up care and other related expenses, for each individual infected following the 18 to 24 month initial treatment period.
5. Compensation to the family each infected person who dies from contracting the disease for their wrongful death. That compensation would be determined in accordance with the formulae used in connection with the WTC victims.
That is just for the Mexican government. I hope that a full Congressional investigation is conducted, and that all persons responsible, including Michael Chertoff, receive appropriate sanctions up to and including their removal.
Mexico is our friend? Time for Congress to get the lead out, build the wall, and get serious about enforcing our existing immigration laws. Your special interest pandering for votes and money is costing American lives and livelihoods.
Jim M,
You know those pesky International agreements only count for the United States Government no one else really needs to adhere to them (sarcasm mode off). Thanks for another well reasoned response.
Just one more reason we’re buying an RV. Fly and stay in hotels as little as possible.
What were Chertoff’s instructions when he was put in charge of our security anyway?
Gas is looking cheaper, ain’t it?
I’ll drive.
Sorry,Michelle,Congress is too busy investigating the Randi Rhodes mugging to bother with something as trivial as a T.B.epidemic.

This TB infected Mexican should be escorted to the Kennedy compound and confined along with Senator Teddy Kennedy until we come up with a solution on how to protect America from other unhealthy foreigners who have no regard for our laws.
You do know that at one time in America we use to put TB infected people in jail who refused to confine them selfs at home.
