Even the New York Times thinks Bobby Jindal will win; Update: Victory!

Quote:

Jindal, a 36-year-old Republican, will be the nation’s youngest governor. He had 53 percent with 625,036 votes with about 92 percent of the vote tallied. It was more than enough to win Saturday’s election outright and avoid a Nov. 17 runoff.

“My mom and dad came to this country in pursuit of the American dream. And guess what happened. They found the American dream to be alive and well right here in Louisiana,” he said to cheers and applause at his victory party.

Update 2 (See-Dub): Congratulations, Rep. Jindal!

Update (MM): My favorite quote from Bobby Jindal as he heads toward a win today…

“People want to make everything about race. The only colors that matter here are red, white and blue,” Jindal said.

Here’s a flashback to my column on Jindal and the NYTimes’ skin-color obsession and here’s a reminder of the smear campaigns the Left has waged against him over religion.

He’s an extraordinary, young, dynamic, whip-smart, staunchly conservative Republican.

***
I bet it just killed them to write this about the LA governor’s race:

Analysts predict Mr. Jindal, 36, could get more than 50 percent of the vote in the open primary, thus avoiding a November runoff and becoming the nation’s first Indian-American governor. If he fails to win a majority, he would face the next-highest vote getter in the runoff.

Louisiana Democrats are demoralized, caught between the perception of post-hurricane incompetence surrounding their standard bearer, Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, who is not running for re-election, and corruption allegations against senior elected officials like William J. Jefferson, the congressman from New Orleans.

So, despite the Times’ best efforts to shift all the blame onto President Bush for the botched Katrina response, they have to admit that the political consequences on the ground are landing right where they ought to…on the dithering, indecisive governor Blanco, on Mayor Nagin, and the Democratic machine that assisted their failure.

I bet they don’t like this part either:

He is a born-again Roman Catholic who has suggested that teaching intelligent design as an alternative to evolution may not be out of place in public schools, favors a ban on abortion and opposes hate-crimes laws. Conservative views aside, the slightly built congressman is anything but a backslapping good ol’ boy.

Blasphemy! How could someone who is both a Rhodes Scholar and from a racial minority believe that stuff? Those are The Wrong Ideas, and in the New York Intelligentsia’s reckoning, Rep. Jindal might as well be wearing overalls, chugging moonshine, and a plucking a four-string banjo as he wipes the stains from his lunch of pan-fried squirrel from his cheek with a Confederate flag bandana and contemplates assaulting suburban canoeists.

Speaking of which, if Rep. Jindal wins, it will undermine the very stereotypes the Times trades in:

The congressman, tossing souvenir cups from a fire truck in a town parade, was met with shouts of “Hey Bobby!” from the rural whites lining the route.

Hmm…maybe everything in the whole world…isn’t about race after all?

Oops, more blasphemy. Sorry.

That is so true about New York Times type liberals. Actually, the South is far more racially tolerant than liberal areas such as New York City. Liberals live their whole lives placing people into convenient categories, which makes them racists and bigots by definition:

He is a born-again Roman Catholic who has suggested that teaching intelligent design as an alternative to evolution may not be out of place in public schools, favors a ban on abortion and opposes hate-crimes laws.

They so badly want to say “born again Christian” to meet their false stereotype, but they can’t. So they have to invent a new phrase “Born again Roman Catholic” that does not exist.

You got that right. Living down South one has to be tolerant, if not accepting, of all races. We are mixed up all together. Sure, there are some areas which are strictly one race or another, but that is the same everywhere.

Go Bobby, go! Conservatives are always portrayed as the racists; the fact is we only care about the content of their character and if they are the type to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Liberals only exist by getting minority groups to believe they are victims and that they need to be babied. Simply put; if you stand up on your own two legs and make your own future, you are a conservative. If you act the victim and blame everyone else for your lot in life and want someone to provide for you; you are sheep the Liberals want, for they will control you and your ability to make something of yourself. So; go Bobby, go!

If I recall correctly, both of these politicians have some relatively insensitive comments for those from India and other contiguous countries in Asia. Probably very irksome to liberal democrats that the Indian culture makes family values, integrity and self reliance priorities in life.

I think this is fantastic for the Country. Here is a gleaming POSITIVE example of how recent legal immigration opens opportunities to all who choose to muster the grit and determination to seize them. If I recall correctly, it was Bobby’s parents who took that important step.

Best of luck to the next governor of LA.

Is it consistent with science to believe that God was at the origin of things and could have guided the development of the natural world? Yes. But those questions belong somewhere other than science class.

“The congressman, tossing souvenir cups from a fire truck in a town parade, was met with shouts of “Hey Bobby!” from the rural whites lining the route.” I think this says volumes about the northern Liberals’ racism and assumptions about the rest of the country. Nobody gives a damn what color he is, what they voted for were the ideas and principles he brings to the table. This should also shut them up about “anti-immigrant” bias in the “provinces” when they write about what is really anti-illegal immigrant lawbreakers sentiment. People have demonstrated they are not xenophobic. They were given the chance to vote for a fellow countryman who represents what they believe, regardless of ethnic orgin, and they took it.

    Congrats to Bobby.

This is the first step in making sure what happened with Katrina won’t happen again. The next step would be getting rid of the mayor and the senator, successfully eliminating the “everyone’s fault but ours” triangle.

Born Again Catholic? What the heck is a Born Again Catholic?

The democraps will be spinning a long while trying to figure this one out. Principle won out over ethnicity and race? The democrap brand of politics is definitely sitting on the shelf with an expiration date of “Best when used by Jan. 1992.”

    Ummm….

Hope the media finally get off the obsession with race.

To be accurate: To the best of my recollection, I remember learning in school ~40 years ago or so that the Indians of India are Caucasians (part of the Indo-European, or Indo-Iranian group), that had originally come out of Eurasia/Central Asia.

Yes, many of them can be rather dark -as dark as “Africans”.

    So?

Tiger Woods is mostly Oriental (”Asian” – ‘course, the term “Asian” raises the question of what exactly the Iranians, Pakistanis, Indians, Turkish peoples, and Afghanis are, does it not?); and is actually more “white” than “black”.

    So what?

It should not be made an issue.

Tiger himself has referred to his raical makeup as “Cablinasian”, in order to show the silliness of pigeoholing him into a racial group; and has asked that he be considered as a man, not as a representative of an ethnic or racial group.

I absolutely agree with you, Mr Woods.

Ever seen how light some folks of African heritage are?

Ever seen how some “Asians” (Orientals) are quite dark; and on the other hand that many have a skin tone exactly matching that of very many Caucasians?

Ever notice just how dark many people of Mediterranean heritage (as is my heritage) can get?

    Again, I’ll say, “So what?”

To state the very obvious: We are all so overwhelmingly more alike than we are different.

George Foreman, Rudy Giuliani, Kristi Yamaguchi, Bobby Jindal, Pete Sampras, Bill O’Reilly, Jay Silverheels, Desi Arnaz, Babe Ruth, Nat King Cole, Irving Berlin, Jimmy Stewart, Danny Thomas, Michelle Malkin, Ronald Reagan, David Horowitz, etc….

We are all Americans, past, present, and future.

That is our culture and society – American.

Let’s make sure we never forget that.

    God Bless America.

The rednecks and good ole boys sure considered Tiger Woods to be black when they banned him and his dad from some golf courses when he was a boy.

    Anyway

I don’t share Mr. Jindal’s political views, but if he’s able to clean up the mess that is New Orleans, and also turn LA around as a state, I’ll sure as hell give him mad respect. He’s pretty young, and if he’s successful in LA, I bet we’ll see him in a bid for the White House down the road some day. Race seems to matter less and less every year, and I’ve noticed attitudes change since I’ve been alive(I’m the first in my family born post Jim Crow), so that’s a beautiful thing.

There will always be racist pieces of trash in our society, but they are in the minority. People like Jindal don’t pay attention to labels and refuse to be victimized. Good for him.

Congrats, Mr. Jindal, on a well-won election.

Congrats, Louisiana, on realizing that the only way to rid yourself of the feculent corruption was to free yourself from the liars who kept returning it upon you. Hopefully, the rest of this nation can learn your lesson before November 2008.

But I’m not counting on that lesson being learned in Northern VA before next month.
