Left-wing Austin, Texas gives Air America the boot

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 23, 2007 09:22 AM

The moonbat radio network loses out to Spanish-language radio.

The Austin-American Statesman reports:

Air America, the home for defiantly liberal talk radio, has quit Austin’s air waves, though it can still be heard online or on XM Satellite Radio. Its previous broadcasting home in Austin, KOKE 1600 AM, has started following a Spanish-language format.

Dave Kaufman, Air America’s vice president of affiliate relations, said Monday the shift happened last week as part of an expected change in station ownership. “Definitely disappointed,” Kaufman reacted. “Whenever we lose any affiliate, it’s disappointing. This was an affiliate better than many, not as good as others. And in a state capital, it’s tough” to take the loss.

A dismayed blogger dug up Arbitron ratings suggesting low listener-ship on the Austin outlet: “Can’t even pull 1 percent in Austin, TX? Amazing but true. don’t ask me why. This is a city that is overwhelmingly Democratic, but the right-wing talk radio stations in town consistently get much better ratings.”

Celebrate diversity!

No real comment on ERR losing another outlet except - good riddance to bad rubbish.

But I like how one DU commenter has a picture of JFK for his/her icon. Liberals have no sense of history, do they? If JFK was president today and doing now what he did then - liberals would be apoplectic, probably worse than their reaction to Pelosi.

Who needs to learn history when you can write your own version?

The 7 libs that listened to KOKE must be in a quandry. They’re probably “activists” or “advocates” for the illegal population in Austin and the station is going Spanish to cater to the very people they work for!

That Air America can’t maintain a foothold in Austin is a surprise. But then again, it couldn’t keep a presence in New York City, either. When you can’t find enough of a lib audience in those two locations, it says something pretty damning.

When the last Air America station shuts down, I’d be willing to wager that it’ll be in Portland, Oregon. It’s the only mid-sized city I know of that has two rabid left-wing radio stations, one each for the AM and FM dials.

Lefties should not worry, they have CBS, MSNBC, ABC, NBC CNN and most of the other mainstream media to listen or view to. What gets me about lefty media is that its so boring and depressing. Also, when they say the Bush/Cheney failed polices are not working in Iraq, you notice they have no alternatives of their own except to surrender to the Islamo-fascists.

What the left seems incapable of understanding is that “democrat” does not mean looney left.

There are large concentrations of democratic voters throughout the US who registered and vote democrat for various reasons other than a communist bond. For exxample, the rust belt states are typically attracted to the democratic party through organized labor. But for other issues, these voters tend to be middle of the road, similar to most republicans.

The democratic base is getting a great view of what they elected into power, and based on Congressional approval statistics, they are not liking it. How this impacts the 2008 elections at this point is anyone’s guess; but the recent LA gubenatorial election does provide some light on the topic.

While republicans cannot seem to figure out what to do with power when they hold it, they are much better than the democrats at maintaining a more mainstream focus and minimizing the imput from extremists on the right.

The democrats seem to embrace the far left lunacy, and have allowed themselves to be led merrily away from the center all the way to the other side of the looking glass. And this time, the stranglehold they have traditionally held over the flow of information in this country is on the wane. They have been exposed like no other time in the past to the general public.

So you go dems! Keep on listening to your new masters orders. Keep on trying to pass legislation time and time again which clearly has no support from the majority of voters on both sides. Keep on using children as political human shields. Keep on lying to the American people and getting caught in those whoppers. Keep on exceeding your Congressional authority and visit those leaders of terror states while agitating our allies to such an extent that their parliament votes to invade Iraq within 24 hours of your worthless and ill advised gesture regarding an incident that occurred over 100 years ago.

Keep on keeping on dems! If the republican party for once can avoid shooting itself in the foot, alienating its voting base again, and once and for all follow the will of the people (that “we the people thing”), 2008 might not turn out all that bad.

Okay here is the problem with Air America and it’s target audience.

These people like to rant and rave to others, but the problem is the others don’t also like to listen to each other. They just want to do thier own ranting, not to listen to each other.

This is why none of these liberal talk shows succeed and keep an audience.

Jim M., thoughtful comments. I believe the Dems purposefully tried to annoy Turkey in order to stir up trouble in Iraq. It’s a last gasp attempt to derail any progress there. If things are looking better there in 2008, Hillary will have a much tougher time. If there ever was a “question the timing” issue, this would be it.

That’s funny! I wondered what happened to it. I live in Austin and sometimes I flip from AM 1370 to AM 1600 just to see what they’re talking about. The other day I flipped to 1600 and it was Tejano music. I had no idea what had happened, but I assumed that Air America got canned. Austin is full of very misguided liberals. I’m suprised that it didn’t do better here.

They took my favorite right-wing talk radio off the FM band and converted it to a Spanish music station. It’s still on AM, but the reception sucks.

I’ll tell you why “right” radio does well - the hosts are intelligent, the talk is interesting, and it’s incredibly entertaining. That’s because there are no whiners. If I want to listen to people whine, I’ll just listen to my kids.
