Shamnesty alert: Dems prepare to ram DREAM Act through with cloture vote; Update: Where do your Senators stand?; Update: DREAM Act beat back, cloture vote fails
Update 12:52pm Eastern. Breathe a small sigh of relief. Shamnesty is defeated again. The DREAM Act has been beat back. The vote was 52-44, falling short of the 3/5 threshhold.
You know how the open-borders lobby works, though.
They’ll be back.
No rest.
Update 12:46pm Eastern. Larry Wide Stance Craig votes with the open-borders lobby.
Update 12:33pm Eastern. Vote is underway. Open-borders Republicans voting for the DREAM amnesty nightmare so far…Hagel, Hatch, Hutchison, Lugar, Martinez, and Collins.
Meanwhile, Fred Thompson comes out against the DREAM amnesty.
Update 11:44am Eastern. Here we go. Twenty minutes of debate has just kicked off with Harry Reid whining about the defeat of shamnesty.
Update 9:45am Eastern 10/24. Via USA Today, it looks like Dick Durbin is worried about senators showing up for the vote: “Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the legislation’s chief sponsor, said Tuesday that his biggest challenge was ensuring that supporters, including five senators — four Democrats and one Republican — running for president, make it to the Capitol for the roll call. Another question mark: Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, who are trying to return to California to review wildfire damage…Durbin needs 60 votes to allow the bill to be debated. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said the DREAM Act amounts to a ‘ratification of illegality’ and could provide an incentive for more illegal immigration. ”

Update 7:20am Eastern 10/24. Mark Krikorian has your morning reality-check on the DREAM Act numbers:
In anticipation of today’s cloture vote, DREAM Act supporters have been telling people that the measure would give amnesty to only 60,000 illegal aliens a year; see this, for instance, from the Daily Kos. But even their own think tank disagrees — the Migration Policy Institute has estimated that 360,000 illegals would get amnesty right away, with another 715,000 benefiting in the future, for a total of over 1 million amnestied. Using a different data source, we looked at the same question and estimated that the total number of potential beneficiaries of the amnesty is 2.1 million. What’s more, there are another 1.4 million parents and young siblings of the under-18 amnesty recipients who do not themselves qualify for the amnesty, but whom the government is likely to let stay once their family members get legalized.
Mickey Kaus is paying attention.
Update 7:30pm Eastern. I’m bumping this post to the Lead Story slot and will keep it here through tomorrow’s cloture vote. Where do your Senators stand? Let me know what responses you get. If Republicans had brains, they would put attrition through enforcement first and Just Say No to any new illegal alien magnets.
Noam Askew has a list of possible fence-sitters. You’ll notice a lot of open-borders Republicans on that list.
Sen. Cornyn (R-Texas) sent his statement this evening. Kind of wishy-washy, but at least he comes down on the right side:
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the following statement this evening regarding his intention to vote tomorrow against the motion to proceed to the DREAM Act (S. 2205), which was introduced by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
“As I have long said, I have a great deal of sympathy for the plight of children who have no moral culpability for being in this country illegally. Congress should continue seeking reasonable and responsible ways they can complete their education and achieve opportunity.
“Unfortunately, the Durbin bill contains a number of gaping loopholes, while failing to address the much larger need for comprehensive immigration reform and the immediate crisis at our borders. For example, it contains no firm requirement for the illegal immigrant to graduate with a degree from an accredited U.S. institution of Higher Education (either a two or four-year institution), it grants them broad access to federal student loans at a time when we are struggling to meet loan needs for our own citizens, and it extends the benefits to adults, rather than focusing on children. Moreover, from a law enforcement perspective, his bill does nothing to prevent fraud, allows certain criminal aliens to qualify for legal status, and ties the hands of law enforcement by severely limiting their access to application information.
“If my colleagues who support this measure are committed to solving America’s immigration crisis and the plight of illegal immigrants, then the focus of this Congress should be on passing a comprehensive reform bill that addresses all of our pressing immigration matters, including securing our broken borders and the needs of American businesses for more workers.”

I’ve been keeping you up to date with the latest on the Dems’ attempt (with help from open borders Republicans) to ram the DREAM Act through the Senate. It now looks like a cloture vote is set for tomorrow. Numbers USA reports: “Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed to invoke cloture on S. 2205, Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) new stand-alone DREAM Act amnesty bill. The cloture vote, for which 60 YES votes are necessary to prevent a filibuster on the measure, is set for Wednesday, October 24. Reid is attempting to bring this nightmarish amnesty bill to the floor under Senate Rule XIV without it ever having been debated in committee.”
This morning, I received the following e-mail circulated today by Sen. Durbin’s Judiciary staff:
From: Dodin, Reema (Judiciary-Dem)
Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2007 9:36 AM
To: All Judiciary Users
Subject: Briefing on the DREAM Act: TODAY at 3pm in SC-6Durbin-Hagel-Lugar DREAM Act Briefing: Tuesday, October 23rd at 3PM in SC-6
Senators Durbin, Hagel and Lugar invite you to a staff briefing on S. 2205, the DREAM Act. A cloture vote on the motion to proceed to the DREAM Act will take place this Wednesday morning (tomorrow). The briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23, in SC-6 of the U.S. Capitol.
The DREAM Act would make it possible for certain long-term undocumented immigrant children to go to college or join the military if they meet stringent requirements. It does not address the status of their parents, but simply allows children-who had no choice in the decision to come here-the opportunity to continue their education and give back to the country that they call home.
This bipartisan legislation has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee three times in various forms, and was approved by the Senate last year as part of the comprehensive immigration bill, S. 2611.
The briefing will feature presentations by:
Several students who would benefit from the DREAM Act; Angela Kelley, Director, Immigration Policy Center; Melissa Lazarin, Director of Education Policy, First Focus; Alfred Campos, Federal Lobbyist, National Education Association; Stephanie Grosser, Outreach & Program Coordinator, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society; and Kevin Appleby, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
This event is for Congressional staff only (no press). For more information, please contact Reema in Sen. Durbin’s office at 4-1158.
For more on the DREAM Act, please see the new report from the Immigration Policy Center.
Hope to see you there!

I am amazed at how arrogant and clueless these SOBs on the left side of the aisle are. Do we have to storm the Senate with torches and pitchforks to get their attention? I have sent an e-mail and gave my take on the “Dream Act” to Senator Crapo’s staffers. If we had a second Senator from Idaho I would contact him/her too.
You got that right, Michelle.
I’ve been saying for a while, that the Democrats, and leftists in general, just have not grown up; that they STILL act like the kids that went OUT OF THEIR WAY (sorry, cannot do boldface nor italics for emphasis)to annoy you in high school, or that started the underground newspaper.
(I’m high school ‘70 - back in those days)
I feel like camping infront of Durbin’s office in Illinois, and yelling at him should he ever show up.
I just called both of my senators, but unfortunately I live in Pennsylvania.
When I call I get the “take your comments and pass along to the Senator” or “Webb doesn’t like to comment on things he hasn’t voted yet, but will pass your comments along” blah, blah, blah. I am wondering if we do have to storm the Senate with pitchforks! Durbin is a clown as is Lugar. I think it’s a 3 ring circus at the capitol building, not a government! Also, I blame Bush on this garbage.
Perhaps I would like to send my child to a school out of state and don’t want to have to pay out of state rate for my keiki while the illegal immigrant gets in for free or at the in-state rate.
Sorry for the rant but this dream act is something I continually call on and I feel like I’m talking to the wall when I do call.
Exactly what I was thinking before I got to your statement….
They have no shame….
“It’s for the children”….
The party of partial-birth abortion on demand wants us to feel guilty about “not caring” about children…
Give me a break.
Send your faxes today! Call today!!

Reid belongs in a flippin straight jacket.
I got an email from Numbers USA and from the Minutemen alerting me of this this morning. They are planning a vote tomorrow.
I can only assume that Reid thinks we are too stupid to realize what is going on, or he can pull the wool over our eyes by ramming it through, or he just doesn’t care what anyone thinks.
Either way, he is going to try to pass this before critical mass can be reached.
We, in the blogosphere, must show the Senator that he is wrong, and I am doing my part
If possible, please don’t just call/fax your own Senator. This is too important. Senators are willing to take donations from non-constituents, so they should be willing to listen to the opinions of non-constituents, too.
All Senate & House members’ phone numbers can be found here: http://numbersusa.com/congressinfo/
or here:

All Senators have answering machines in their offices. Even those who don’t have them in their DC offices have them in their local offices.
And here are the toll-free Congressional switchboard numbers (the switchboard’s open 24/7):
800-862-5530
877-851-6437
866-220-0044
866-340-9281

Here are the Sens who need calling:

Also, tell everyone you know who’s against amnesty about this. Most people haven’t even heard of this yet.
This amnesty isn’t just for kids. ANYONE can claim that they came here before the age of 16, lived here for at least 5 years, & graduated from a US high school, b/c any required corroborating proof can be easily forged (all amnesties have had massive fraud). There will be people in their 30’s & 40’s who will be getting this amnesty, claiming to be only 29, guaranteed. Then, when they’re legal, they can sponsor anyone that wants to be legalized, simply by claiming that that person is a relative. The govt won’t be doing DNA tests, so how would they discover that they aren’t related?
This will legalize-& attract-just as many people as the KBK amnesty earlier this year, it’s just packaged differently.
CALL THEM ALL!
I just called Senator Kyl’s and Senator McCain’s offices and got through right away. Clearly they were not receiving many calls. We need to get on those phones and get these crapweasels in Washington to feel some heat and accountability especially Kyl and McCain who favored amnesty before. Let’s see if McCain changes his position this time around or if he is willing to go down with his campaign ship or should I say bus? It is about the children. Are we willing to let our children grow up in a third world country where laws do not matter and those who broke in illegally have more opportunity than our natural born children?
I faxed my senators through Numbers USA and I urge anyone else to do the same. Once you’re registered, it takes less than a minute. You can customize the text if you choose. I added a P.S. about my disgust with Reid’s sneaky tactics in bringing this drivel to a vote behind the public’s back. And since these open borders fanatics won’t give up, you should make sure to sign up for Numbers USA’s email alerts. If it weren’t for them, and people like Michelle, no one would know what the heck is going on (which is the way the Dems like it, keep the people ignorant).
Dear Democrats,
Why do you hate America so much?
Why do you love illegal criminal aliens so much?
I would like to have my country back.
Thank you,
Zippy Slug
mike volpe
you nailed it there when you said
they were voted in and they have a “mandate” … remember? … so they think they can do no wrong no matter what they do without being accountable to anyone …
IMHO … if the people of Nevada don’t get rid of this POS excuse for a senator then it will reflect on them and their indifference to elections
I’m busy at it again . . . . . HELP!! we’re running out of pork to buy off those newly minted blue dawgs . . . .
Do they make Ron Paul designer straight jackets?
I hear Kusinich has a lovely fall line…
Here is a sample letter to email to all 100 Senators.
“Please do not vote for the DREAM Act amnesty (S. 2205) that Assistant Majority Leader Durbin introduced as a stand-alone measure on October 18. This amnesty will entice millions more illegal aliens to risk their lives to try to come to the United States and take advantage of this ongoing amnesty.
The DREAM Act is not a small amnesty for a select group of individuals. In fact, it allows illegal “teens” (i.e., anyone under 30) to petition for their parents, leading eventually to their aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins, to come to the United States.
The big argument for this amnesty is that it is for teenagers who are here illegally because their parents broke the law. Even with the new “less-than-30″ age requirement, this amnesty will apply to more than just teens (Sen. Durbin has included “humanitarian” and “family unity” exceptions to the age limit). Nonetheless, the argument is that the teenagers should not be punished for the crimes of their parents.
But as soon as DREAM amnesty citizens are over 21, they can bring in their parents, who broke the law to get them into the country in the first place, back into the U.S. (or to keep them here legally after years of avoiding deportation). The chief criminals will be rewarded after all. And due to chain migration, the amnestied “teens” can petition for their aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents to get permanent U.S. residency as well.
This a back-door amnesty for the parents of these illegal “teens,” and a chain migration nightmare for the country. You have shown in the past that you have a callous disregard for the welfare of everyday Americans. You can change this by opposing the DREAM Act!”
He won’t win another election here. People are tired of his game. I’ll put my blackjack money on it. Aways double on 11!!!!!!
When does Reid’s current term end? The people of AZ would be INSANE to re-elect him. What’s wrong with him? Why does he continually insist on bringing measures to vote with out making time for the proper review and vetting procedures? Why is no one calling him on this BS? Can one man be this arrogant?
Harry Reid is sure getting good at this legislative “ramming” stuff. As someone who doesn’t like be rammed, I just wish Harry would leave and find some other way to channel his incredibly useless ideas and actions.
This should be at the top of the page here, not on the side.
Please email National Review and ask them to get the lead out and pay attention to this.
thecorner@nationalreview.com
LC,
Reid is a class 3 sen. 2011 term ends.
Especially since they never elected him in the first place…
He’s from Nevada…
lol swj, I didnt even see that . lmao
The only thing the DemoCraps have said that is correct in all of their recent assaults on America is that it is “for the children” …
the problem is … “which children”?
to most of us when we think of “the children” we are referring to every American child here now and those to be born in the future getting to grow up and live in the United States of America with the rights, freedoms and opportunites that we have fought and died for these last 200+ years …
in the DemoCraps view “the children” are those of illegal immigrants; second and third generation welfare recipients; middle class families usurping their parental obligations regarding health insurance and education; and anyone else they can put in front of the cameras to be used as their “victim shields” to try to ram their unwanted agenda down our throats regardless of the wishes of the people of this country
College costs rise again
But, our dems want to make Illegals get to go to college on my dime but, not citizen kids. Mind boggling!
My link didn’t work but, there is an article on yaho about collge cost rising
Just called Obama, for what it’s worth…
I said that if the DREAM act has any merit, it should survive debate. If it would not survive debate, it should never see the light of the Senate floor.
For what it’s worth, I got through pretty quickly as well.
I’ll try Durbin in a bit.
If this passes, I think we should all revolt by not paying taxes.
This should send a message.
They cannot arrest all of us.
Heck, they cannot even locate illegals.
I’m so tired of the terminology, “undocumented immigrant.”
lolz
However, I already pay my taxes. Most all of us do.
Withholdings from out paychecks.
Just don’t send them any more than they take out of your paychecks.
Let the government know that we need our taxed dollars to pay for OUR kids not illegals.
Michelle, why is a story about wildfires at the top of the page here instead of this?
Are we sure that Reid was elected and isn’t just an escapee from Area 51?
This guy’s mindset is truly not of this world….
Just a taste of what is to come if a democrat gets elected to the highest office in the land…
Dang - they just didn’t listen to the American people the first time, did they? Why do we have to keep shouting?
For the life of me we need to begin kicking out Senators on the charge of treason for any senator that votes for this bill
Can someone investigate if/how we can start this?
I called Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Senator John Cornyn who represent Texas. It is so nice having sensible Senators represent me! They’ll stand up for what’s right.
I’ll trade you; Lautenberg and Menendez?
Come on, you know you want em’…
Trade for Obama and Durbin?
Sold.
#41 30 pcs of silver:
I’ll see your Lautenberg and Menendez… and raise you with - gasp-arrghh-aaahhhh! - Kennedy and Kerry.
Again, Good God!, what WERE we thinking when we moved here a couple years ago?!
#31 what u don’t to keep tweeedle dee and tweedle dum????? These 2 are the worst senators and laziest. I just sent a fax and told Lautenberg to resign he’s been in way too long!
Write your Senators and urge them to vote no on the DREAM Act (which is a nightmare to me.)
If there is money to give illegal alliens grants for college than why isnt there money to give citizens more tuition assistance? Shy should money be diverted from citizins who want to go to college to illegal alliens.
I know I am saving nearly $400 a month to pay for my daughter’s college education and that will, at best, give me 60% of Harvard’s expected tuition 18 years from now (we started saving when she was 4 months old, she is not 8 months old.) Why should illegal aliens be given money for college and she wont be elligable for any financial aid.
We need to take care of citizins first, then once everyone has 100% of what they need, then we can give to illegal aliens.
Big helicopter, Giant net, throw over the Senate, scoop up all of them, fly above shark infested waters and drop the net.
#44 xler8bmw:
“These 2 are the worst senators and laziest.”
On the humorous side: This discussion of who has the worst clowns for senators reminds me of a scene in a “Fawlty Towers” episode (paraphrasing):
Customer:
“This place (Fawlty Towers) is the worst inn in the area!”
The Major:
“No! No! I won’t have that!
There’s this place in…(a neighboring village)”
Hilarious.
We do need a yuk now and then.
At least once a day.
#47 LOL! TY
I haven’t lived in NJ for that long but I know a mobster when I see one…and every NJ politician looks like one.
The commercials are downright scary.
Could you move this up the homepage a little higher, pleassse, Michelle? Because of the fires, people aren’t hearing about this anyplace else.
My Texas Senators have not yet committed to voting NO on this latest DREAM act.
ALL, please call your Senators and urge them to vote NO.
Contact information for all Senators:
http://.senate.gov/
Sorry:
http://-name-.senate.gov/
‘name’ is normally the last name, but is the first initial followed by the last name for at least one Senator.
This should be the LEAD story. This is not to be overlooked. We need to get it together - call and fax all senators not just your state.
There is a list available at numbers. Please check it out and fax as many as you can.
This issue is more than about “just the Dream act” - it’s a lead-in to more socialism. If they get this in - the of course, they have to give the same “benefits” to the citizens. Then they have to blah blah blah. Lots more is at stake than just tuition.

But, seriously, folks.
What good would it do to call Kerry’s or Kennedy’s office, and ask - demand, rather - that they vote against amnesty?
(Although I have been sending faxes.)
That goes completely against their worldview; and I have no big money behind me.
And, I haven’t heard too much about their seats’ being vulnerable (thank you, Massachusetts voters - to go along with Barney Frank and Gerry Studds!)
And, besides, this state in which I now have a house has consistently sent these two back to Washington:
The one after he drove off the bridge in 1969 (I won’t bore with the well known details; suffice it to say that I remember incredulously watching the story unfold in August ‘69, just before I started my senior year in high school, not being able to believe that he was “disoriented” [or whatever], and that he swam from Chappaquiddick Island to Martha’s Vineyard, and went to his hotel room, etc, etc. - of course! I’ve just driven off a bridge, into deep enough water to cover the car. I know…I’ll leave the girl to drown, and swim and walk to my hotel room, even though I’m disoriented…. Riiiggghhhtttt!).
The other after he took a movie camera to film himself in combat?!?! (gotta ask my Dad about that one);
claimed to have been in Cambodia when the U.S. military was not;
and started Vietnam Vets Against the War and trashed the U.S. military in Congress.
As if people of this character (term used verrrry loosely) are gonna pay attention to me?
Talk about disenfranchised…I feel bloody disenfranchised!
You don’t have to stick to calling your own Senators. Call them all.
Gotta confess…I didn’t know that was allowed.
Gotta confess…I didn’t know that was allowed.
The DC Senate offices don’t even usually ask for a zip code.
We need to call all the undecideds on NumbersUSA’s list:
http://numbersusa.com/index
Also, to the person from TX who said that Cornyn & Hutchison are good, those 2 senators AREN’T on the ‘Pledged to vote NO’ list. They need to hear from you!
But, if they do ask for a zipcode, then what?
Pull an Emily Litella, and just say, “Neverr Miinnndd!?”
And then hang up?
Either find a zip code in that state –
or just tell them your actual zipcode. Also tell that you support the RSC and that if they want your money they can listen to what you have to say.
When the GOP asks for your money they never worry about your zip code.
Ahh.
Good point.
Obviously Michelle doesn’t read or pay heed to the comments here. This should be the LEAD story.
Flenser - thanks for the list. I hope everyone finds time to participate.
It’s remarkable how little interest this is getting on all the right wing blogs.
Unless you have an address to go w/the zip, I wouldn’t use any fake zips. If they ask for your zip, just say your real one (& address, if asked), but also volunteer that you’ve been a contributor to either that Senator’s party or to the Senator.
OR simply call after hours & leave messages on the answering machines. That’s what I do. If the DC voicemails are full (or they don’t have them), I call one of their local offices & leave the msg on one of those (make sure you don’t call when the local office is still open). Most DC Senate offices are closed by 7pm Eastern & many open as early as 8am Eastern.
Hope this helps!
I called Clinton and Schumers office and told them a yes vote from them was a yes vote ANYONE BUT A DEMOCRAT for president next year.
That is Hillary’s goal and its the only thing that will make her think twice.
Just called both Kennedy’s & Kerry’s offices.
Kennedy’s staffer took my opinion, and then said thank you.
Kerry’s staffer tired to preempt my opinion by starting to defend and explain the bill, telling me that in-state tuition has been stripped from it, that it’s not an amnesty, etc, etc.
Then he asked, if someone was brought here by his parents years ago, should he be punished for the rest of his life?
I replied that he should not be punished, but that, when push comes to shove, I do not want amnesty extended to these people, and that I do not want any “comprehensive” plan.
I asked that the laws on the books be enforced, and also that we allow enforcement through tattrition to do its job.
Man, how annoying!
Some leftist staffer arguing with me how my tax dollars are supposed to be used!
Arrggghhhh!!
sorry…attrition.
Barrasso’s office told me he’d be voting no. But call him anyway.

It excludes both (very) likely opponents (e.g. Sessions) and supporters (e.g. Durbin) of the DREAM Act, so this may give some hint of where the undecided senators are.
Here are the toll-free Congressional switchboard numbers (the switchboard’s open 24/7):
800-862-5530
877-851-6437
866-220-0044
866-340-9281
Please see my post #9 for other contact info. We need to call them all!
I also explained that it can be tough for those of us with fuull-time day jobs to keep track of what’s going on, and to make our opinion known.
Arrgghh - full-time.
I will try a few more senators.
I phoned Kerry and Kennedys offices….(waste my time??) Kerrys’ aid asked why not??? She said it would help with military recruitment. I said I do NOT appreciate aliens in my military and that is one way traitors can infiltrate the army! Kennedys aid said he is not voting..YIPPEEE!!!!…(still recovering from surgery)..Apparently my pleasure in his missing another chance to SCREW Americans was met with disdain by the aid ….He said well, if you don’t care about the Senators health!! Ask Mary Jo Kopechne how SHE feels about Kennedys health!!!!!
Keep those calls going. Norm Coleman’s office (MN-RINO) just hung up on me mid-sentence.
Did not want to discuss why the bill is not good or why I wanted the Senator to vote No. So, do these Senators offices assume we are idiots? I don’t take kindly to people hanging up on me.
I see the all-important wildfire thread is up to 87 comments. We really are the stupid party.
Drudge has a link up ( 2:53 pm ) regarding a story labled as:
“Congressman Asks Immigration Authorities to Detain Illegal Aliens Attending Event in U.S. Capitol… ”
The link takes you to Tom Tancredo’s website, but I didn’t see the related story there….
Don’t know if it was taken down or what…
If the headline is true - Good for him - it’s what the authorities SHOULD be doing. To have illegal aliens meet with members of Congress for an ‘ideas’ session is egregiously, incomprehensively wrong.
I see the all-important wildfire thread is up to 87 comments. We really are the stupid party.
Amen to that. My local talk radio guy has been having to talk about nothing but the fires for 2 days now. If it weren’t for the damned fires, he’d be all over this & his callers would be swamping the Senate w/calls.
Haven’t heard ONE word about this on FOX NEWS……have others????
Maybe O’Reilly will mention it tonight??!?!?!?????
Thank you for the phone #’s, flenser; I called several more senators.
And, you’re quite correct in post #75.
Maybe O’Reilly will mention it tonight
Don’t hold your breath. O’Reilly’s doing his usual triangulating again & is only against illegals who commit felonies on top of being here illegally. Aside from that, O’Reilly’s now 100% pro-amnesty & very pro-illegals.
Just saw the O’Reilly promo for tonight. BO won’t have time to cover this issue tonight, b/c he’ll be too busy covering 2 far more important stories: Dumbledore (a dead, fictional character) being gay & Kathy Griffin’s controversy.
Or it’s the fact that the fires have the potential to kill loads of people, while DREAM will “merely” cost this country every penny it has…
Thanks! I only had the 340-9281!
I already called, FAXed, and now will email to my Senators.
Michelle - please get this up as main story.
Loyal MM readers - spread the word to all your email buddies, and stop this madness!
Yes, please Michelle. Update this article & move it up!
Part of NumbersUSA’s latest email:
Our “whipping” of vote counts tells us that we are perhaps as strong as we’ve ever been at this point among Republican Senators. But there are at least 20 Republicans who are pledged to vote YES or on the fence. I believe that several of these Republicans will be far more likely to vote NO if they see several Democrats voting NO, too.
It may be a situation where the Democrats bring a kind of 1-for-1 match in which each Democrat who votes NO will cause one Republican to vote NO.
Here are the Democrats who are up for re-election next year:
Baucus (D-MT)
Biden (D-DE)
Durbin (D-IL)
Harkin (D-IA)
Johnson (D-SD)
Kerry (D-MA)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Levin (D-MI)
Pryor (D-AR)
Reed (D-RI)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
Here are the Democrats who broke with Party leaders and voted against the amnesty last spring. They are under tremendous pressure from the Party to show some loyalty by voting for what the Party says is just a “little” amnesty.
You need to help remind them why they voted NO in June and why their NO on this amnesty is just as important.
Baucus (D-MT)
Bayh (D-IN)
Bingaman (D-NM)
Brown (D-OH)
Byrd (D-WV)
Dorgan (D-ND)
Harkin (D-IA)
Landrieu (D-LA)
McCaskill (D-MO)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
Stabenow (D-MI)
Tester (D-MT)
Webb (D-VA)
THANKS. WE CAN’T LET UP IN PHONING THIS AFTERNOON. EARLIER TODAY, SOME OFFICES WERE SAYING PHONE CALLS WERE RUNNING EVEN. WE USUALLY BEAT THE OTHER SIDE 25-1 AND EVEN 100-1.
Once again, here are the toll-free Congressional switchboard numbers (the switchboard’s open 24/7):

I love this guy at times
Tancredo Asks Immigration Authorities to Detain Illegal Aliens Attending Durbin Event in U.S. Capitol
( WASHINGTON, D.C. ) – Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today released a statement regarding an event Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) reportedly plans to hold in conjunction with discussion of the DREAM ACT – an event that will be attended by several illegal aliens.
“I call on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency to detain any illegal aliens at this press conference. Just because these illegal aliens are being used for political gain doesn’t mean they get immunity from the law.”
“If we can’t enforce our laws inside the building where American laws are made, where can we enforce them?”
Tancredo alerted the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency earlier today regarding Durbin’s 3:00 PM meeting.
This story keeps getting bumped lower and lower - I’m really surprised that Michelle hasn’t kept this story more prevalent on the site.
I know the wildfires are tragic and terrible - but from a citizen-action standpoint, we can’t do anything about them.
This issue, however, effects the entire nation and is being dropped lower and lower on the prominence scale - and that is wrong.
It certainly rates a higher position than Halle Berry or ‘Osama-Obama’, and definitely higher than Congressman Stark “raving-mad”.
Looks like my Senators (Coburn; Inhofe) here in OK are each confirming a NO vote.
Thanks Michelle for staying on top of this.
I emailed Carl Levin & Debbie Stabenow. Debbie should vote no, she has in the past. Carl on the other hand….a lost cause.
It’s one thing to take away my hard earned money and give it to another american, but to illegals….man that sucks.
I DO love Tom Tancredo. Here is a quote from his press release:
How very true.
Fred Thompson rolled out his Immigration plan today, its on his website. The only thing he left out is -Tom Tancredo should be Homeland Security Director!
I forgot to say, when Tancredo had a dust up with his next door neighbor in the Senate Office building - your ‘fine’ Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison - over smoking a cigar after hours in his office (an allowed practice in the Senate building); I sent Tancredo some money to buy as many Cigars as he could smoke.
Tancredo sent the money back to me with a very nice note that said “As Congressmen we cannot accept gifts. But be assured, I will continue to enjoy an occasional cigar in my office.”
Tancredo sent the money back to me with a very nice note that said “As Congressmen we cannot accept gifts. But be assured, I will continue to enjoy an occasional cigar in my office.”
Wow. An honest person in DC.
If anything will cement the Dems losing the White House in ‘08 - this should do it. Once the taxpayers finds out what the true costs are going to be - if any of them have a brain between them they’ll somehow figure out they’ve been had by the very people they couldn’t wait to vote into office. If Kay Baily H. and Cornyn vote yes on this “Katie bar the door” because they’ll both lose their oh-so-coveted jobs.
Sen. Turbin started this mess and he’s up for re-election. He needs to be tossed on just this. His other antics should have him tossed to Cuba.

You should have asked that clown what do they mean by punished because I don’t understand how they are being punished by being deported.
Thanks Michelle for getting this story up top where it belongs! I have a good friend in Orange County, CA, who is worried about his house, and he wants this bill killed as much as I do!
Your many readers have FOUR CHOICES to call their Senators for free, thanks to MM reader Fiona:

NO EXCUSES! Stop reading for 5 minutes, make your calls, and then get back here and enjoy reading the rest of the news.
Fred 5676, Just received an email from Boxer (I live in California and am a Republican but since I sent her emails to stop the amnesty, well I’m stuck on her mailing list now.) I just sent my thoughts to her.
Representation without taxation equals Dream Act for illegal aliens. Taxation without Representation equals Dream Act passing against our will.
Ansell I bet I have an email that looks alot like yours from way back she was so nice and sent it to me twice! she’s a wanker. wanna see an excerpt if you havnt already?
I’ll just post it again, for your entertainment.
Thank you for contacting me regarding proposed changes to our immigration laws. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you may know, the Senate recently considered S.1639, a bill that would comprehensively reform our immigration system. On June 28, 2007, after weeks of negotiations and debate, the Senate voted against moving the bill forward.
Although comprehensive immigration reform has stalled, certain legislative proposals that were included in S.1639 continue to be considered on their own or as amendments to other bills. These proposals include the DREAM Act, the AgJOBS program, and increased funding for border security.
I believe our immigration problems will only get worse unless we work together to resolve them. Be assured that I will continue to fight to improve our immigration system in a manner that strengthens our border security, protects American workers, and reduces illegal immigration.
Again, thank you for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me again about this or any other issue of concern to you.
Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
Translation,
Bend over further so the smoke I’m blowing up your a$$ makes it in.
If my Senator Mary Landrieu votes for this bill she better be prepared to find another job. Given Governor elect Jindal’s outright win she needs to follow the will of the electorate or else.
also She is yet to respond to my emails and faxes since the first shamnesty
OT. More Democratic donor hijinks.
Well, one of my senators is Ken (Can’t get the border open wide enough for me or show enough compassion to the poor and downtrodden already here) Salazar, so I’m screwed. Allard will probably vote my interests though.
How many times have they tried to ram this through? Four? Five?
Good thing Congress has nothing better to do than to bring up the same thing over and over and over and over again.
That 4 day workweek must be brutal.
this will make it number 5 jim.
Maybe the Mexicana government needs to employ these treasonous “senators” …including hauling them to Mexico.
Heck, if we’re going to waste out tax money, may as well buy them a one way pass.
These people are not true Americans!
Maybe they can do better by leaving this country before we are ruined.
Traitors.
Haven’t heard ONE thing on the news about this……wonder why?
LOL Aj, I got the same one. Funny part is my email to her called for a simple yes or no response and not a prefab consultant driven one.
I sent another one to Senator Turbin using an old mailing address I had in Illinois and his response was very similar. The elite don’t even read their emails or faxes, and awhile back I remember some Dems complaining that they missed a hearing or something because the White House faxed them notice. I think the WH should continue that practice, especially when we go into fighting mode like tonight and tomorrow.
yep John, our Senators are a joke, a very very bad joke.
All I ask for is honesty: “Thanks for your email/fax, due to the amount of mail I receive a may not be able to reply to your concerns. Now go take a long walk of a short pier and leave me alone so I can take bribes and make my family rich at your expense.”
I’d be happy with that. It would be a start to getting these politicians to tell us the truth.
From the dream act portal:
Don’t let up! Wednesday morning is the time to FAX (NumbersUSA), call, and email via your Senators’ web sites.
My condolences! A small price, indeed, if we can defeat this blatant REWARD for illegal behavior. It is NOT amnesty - it is worse. It is a GIANT GIVEAWAY of tax dollars and American citizenship to illegal aliens, encouraging much more illegal immigration in the future. Who has a problem understanding that??
Time to bring out the old tar and feathers, and hang them from the Liberty pole. King Harry and Queen Nancy shall no longer be allowed to tax if they refuse to properly represent those who elected them!
If they refuse to obey the voice of those who elected them, then maybe those who elected them should refuse to pay the bills.
Unbelievable.
From the Dream Act Portal FAQ section (www.dreamact.info):
The bold on “my” Senators / Representatives is mine.
I suppose its too much too hope that our schools teach that if you come here illegally and don’t go through the LEGAL process to become a citizen, you don’t have a Representative or Senator?
Don’t let up! Wednesday morning is the time to FAX (NumbersUSA), call, and email via your Senators’ web sites.
You don’t have to wait until tomorrow to call or fax. All of the Senators have answering machines on either their DC or local offices (most of the voicemails I got in DC tonight are full-I hope it’s our side that’s filled them up). Those free switchboard numbers (see above) work 24/7. And you can fax via NumbersUSA anytime.
Fiona,
No I don’t think they are all full from the “NO” voters, the “YES” voters are posting on the dream act portal website that the voicemail boxes are full and they are hoping its with “YES” voters.
I also got this from their website, so we have to keep calling:
Hallelujah! Lets defeat it and put it to bed once and for all, then put Fred in office.
Don’t trust Sen. Turbin. He’s up for re-election and will say anything now. He’s silent (other than bashing our troops) once he’s in office. Once he’s up for re-election he promises the kitchen sink and a baby in the bath water. It’s clear he’s looking for money from La Raza and then will hide it away after this thing fails. THen he’ll blame the “bigots” for defeating his attempt to offer our tax money to illegals. He needs to be retired. THe time is this upcoming election. He should be target #1 on the nation’s list as one that needs to be thrown out of office. Keep calling folks. This is far too important to let up now. You guys are true patriots.
The Republicans are being played for fools. The Democrats think they can transform America into a South American nation that they will rule forever. But think Ted Kennedy. He reminds me of the Roman Senators who threw away democracy for an Empire. That lasted but 300 years of degradation before falling to unclothed savages. 1000 years of history given away in a single vote. And it spelled the ruin of Rome.
I have faxed, I have called, and I have mailed. Now I will be calling on a full court press in my former home state of Illinois, where the illegal that stole my Social Security number lives and works. I will call for an investigation of Sen Durbin’s activities in regards to public funding uses. I will call for an investigation of USA Patrick Fitzgerald, both from his IG and the GAO, for his refsal to take cases of illegal immigrant identity theft and record low deportation hearings of illegal alien criminals. I will ask any of you in Chicago to connect me with an attoney in Chicago who will file an injunction against the Social Security Administration, preventing all payments to all citizens until they fix the problems of illegal use of the SSN, and the Earning Suspense Fund.
Time to throw the brakes on this train, even if it is going so fast that the train derails.
Five times, five times!
The American people matter only when it is advantageous for them and their “policie.s” The American people have bellowed, “we don’t want amnesty, we want the borders secured” and for what, only to be ignored???
It’s for the children. It’s for illegals, they shouldn’t be punished for what their parents did…well neither should we.
Someone breaks the law and I get to do their time!!!
Enough is enough. We can kill this bill, the time is now!
I called my senators yesterday, did my NumbersUSA faxing this morning. I wish we had more updated and accurate numbers, to know how close things.
Call them!
Call them!
Call them!
Call them!
Call them!
Call them!
SHUT DOWN THE THE SWITCHBOARD!
Just called my senator Brownback’s office and urged to vote no and gave him the new numbers Michelle just posted. Also called McCaskill and Collins and got voicemail both times.
Hope the switchboard is getting overloaded.
While state (NC) votes NO, county wants to build 2 new schools for all the retired people who keep reproducing. Couldn’t possibly be for all those
illegalundocumented families’ offspring. They have proposed a new creative tax to pay for them, too. Idiots!
