Halloween fright video: “The Mother of All Tax Hikes”
From the NRCC, a true-life horror authored by the Democrats:
John Boehner wrestles with the Pelosi-Rangel tax-hike creature:
Last week, led by the Ways and Means Committee chairman, Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., congressional Democrats unveiled a breathtaking proposal: the single largest tax increase in American history.
It’s not often that we can speak in such absolute terms, but in this case, there is no way around it. Dubbed the “Mother of All Tax Bills” by Rangel and embraced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who told reporters last Thursday that she “certainly” supports the tax increase, this monstrosity would raise taxes on everyone: from the very poor to the very rich and everyone in between.
Indeed, with a price tag of $1.3 trillion — yes, that’s “trillion” with a “t” — the Mother of All Tax Bills is actually more like the Mother of All Tax Hikes. And to make matters worse, the Pelosi-Rangel plan kills tax cuts enacted by Congress in 2001 and 2003, making it a $3.5 trillion tax hike in total. Could the news get any worse for American families, farmers, small businesses and other job providers? Not likely.
So what exactly will the Pelosi-Rangel tax increase mean for families?
The most striking feature of the Mother of All Tax Hikes is that it raises taxes on literally every single taxpayer. In 2001, the Republican-led Congress and the president enacted a sweeping tax cut plan that lowered taxes for every American.
The Pelosi-Rangel plan would eliminate those tax cuts, raising taxes for every single tax bracket and eliminating the new 10 percent rate Congress established specifically to reduce the tax burden on low- and middle-income working families.
President Bush cracked this morning that the Dems haven’t “seen a bill they could not solve without shoving a tax hike into it.”

…and what, pray tell do they need $3.5 trillion for?
…oh wait, it’s for the children.
I truely think that the Dems have taken the old Viking adage “rape and pillage” and modernized it to “tax and spend.”
It’s another way for them to redistribute my hard earned dollars to someone who won’t get off their butt and work for it.
The nanny state is well on it’s way.
Just think how cheap votes will be when the people have no money!
That. Was. An. AWESOME. Video!
Why work for a balanced budget when you can just take more from the people? We’re like a bottomless piggy bank for congress.
One and All: Just remember that they know how better to spend your money than you do.
I’m not sure why they are so wimpy about it. Why don’t they just get right to the point.
1) How much did you earn? ____
2) How much do you have? ____
3) Add Line 1 and Line 2. ____
4) Send it in. (do not staple to this form)
Congress’ job is to take as much of our money as it can and spend all of it. Then ask for more.
This is one corrupt institution. And I don’t know whom to believe in any branch of the gov anymore. It’s all very discouraging.
The mother of all tax hikes!!! Run!!!!! Nancy, Run!!!!!!
I thought the Dems only wanted to raise taxes on the rich?
Que Pasa, Charlie?
This is what the Prez was talking about this morning, eh?
Congress better get busy with it’s work, and quit worrying about M.A.T.H.
Throw the rascals out!!!
#7 – they do only want to tax the rich. If you have any money that you didn’t get directly from them, you are rich.
Look, while these folks live “high on the hog” with our tax dollars it’s no wonder they need more money from you and I. They only know “easy money”, and haven’t a clue of what they are doing to our country. What Rangel isn’t telling us is that a small middle-class business owner that is grossing in the low 6 figures, yet only netting in the very low 5 figures will very easily be forced to fold because of this,(they are already stretched to snapping). He doesn’t understand what it takes to run a small business in todays environment. Material costs alone are often 2/3’s of one’s income in a small skilled arts/crafts business…shoemakers, artists, woodworkers, etc. I guess he believes folks are just content with Walmart/Chinese quality they can buy for so much less…because they have been dumbed down to not even recognise poor quality. truthfully, it just shows how resilient our nation is that we are not already doomed! Or, perhaps we are…maybe the ripples just haven’t moved across the country to those who live elsewhere other than California or New York, (the folks they refer to as “fly-over states”).
Someone strangle Rangel please.
*feebs praying…no tax hikes…need to save for an over priced house
I have no more arms, and no more legs to give out…
Their now accepting first borns feebs.
Who does this guy think he is, the King of England?
Queen of England
Well both Republicans and Democrats have proven themselves unable to get off the government teat. Either we pay for it now or our children pay for it later (with interest).
The 2001 and 2003 tax cuts were incredibly stupid considering they were met with an increase in spending. Republicans trying to have their cake and eat it too only accomplished weakening the economy.
I don’t know enough about this bill to say if I support it or not, but I definitely support abolishing those cuts. Or getting rid of a bunch of useless pork. But both Dems and Republicans refuse to do the latter so the former is a necessity.
There are those of us who desperately needed those cuts, and we pray that this bill will not pass. While I understand there are people who want the 2001 and 2003 cuts to be revoked–and for good, sound reasons–I look at it from a different perspective. Being in a lower middle-class family (and trying desperatly to step up to a middle middle-class family), those cuts were a Godsend. If they want to really fix the problems, go after all the pork–starting with Murtha.
I honestly don’t know what we’ll do if this gigantic tax increase makes it through. I’m already working my fingers to the bone in the jobs I have. I can’t imagine having to add another.
conservativesRus,
Don’t joke about this, don’t say it out loud, don’t even think it!
I was reading a book called “A View From Serendip” by Arthur C. Clarke many years ago. Of course he lives in Sri Lanka and the title of the book comes from the fact that at one time Sri Lanka was known as Serendip. In the book Clarke talks about the corrupt government at the time and how at one point they tried to pass a greater than 100% tax for one year to pay for all the corruption. It failed but the idea was still floated that for at least one year the government would not only take everything you made that year but would also make you dig into any savings and give that too.
All I can say is, let the dems wrangle money from a different source. Hey, I know…how bout if we remove the earned income credit!?..since it’s welfare, it doesn’t belong in the tax arena…that crowd has been after my money all my life….I don’t mind a little taxation, but come one…I work three to four months for the governement?..and those that chose not to work?….and how bout we disestablish a few government establishments…like Bureau of Indian Affairs…Dept of Education, Dept of Commerce..etc..etc…most of these organizations do very little and are there as a monument to bureacracy…or even better, make our politicians actually work for 20 years before they are eligible for retirement benefits…put me in charge…I would save a bunch of money very quickly..
Rusty – #16 Please show me how our economy is weaker?
If it’s weaker it’s not from the taking less from our most productive members of our country, it’s from the least efficient form of spending employed by our government. Taxation by it’s very nature is the drag on the economy.
10 of the biggest problems. Worth the read HERE.
Next they will introduce a bill with only a $1 trillion increase and call it a tax cut.
Rusty,
It’s because of those tax cuts that government revenues have increased like they have. Furthermore, the deficit has decreased because of those tax cuts, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I needed those cuts. Anytime I can keep more of my money it’s a good thing.
Jim C
I always ask the liberal who spouts off about Bush’s tax cuts if they cashed the check he sent them or sent it back. It ends the BDS pretty quickly.
Like we didn’t see this coming. I figured it out years ago. The Dems will not be happy until they have complete and total control. In order to that they must have as many people as they can who are somehow beholden to govt. for thier daily life and livlihood.
