Naomi does Venezuela

Kevin Spacey. Sean Penn. Danny Glover. What a parade of Hollywood has-beens. Could it get any worse? How about adding Naomi Campbell, the latest celebrity member of the Hugo Chavez Fan Club:

British supermodel Naomi Campbell met privately with President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday, becoming the latest in a series of celebrities hosted by the Venezuelan leader.

Campbell flashed a smile to reporters as she arrived at the presidential palace, but said little about what she hoped to discuss with Chavez.

“I’ve been here before actually,” she said. “A beautiful country, very tropical. You’ve got great waterfalls.”

Then, before turning to walk inside, she added: “I’m not going to be political. Thank you very much.”

“Not going to be political?” Kissing the ring of an insane, anti-American, liberty-squelching dictator is an overtly political, overtly stupid act.

We need a special travel agency to start booking one-way tickets for these fools.

Does she really believe she can visit with an America-hating dictator without it being political?

I don’t understand. What does befriending Señor Chavez offer these “celebrities”? Can it be anything more than just making an “I hate America, Bush is Satan” statement?

    JW2,

Dumb people who long to look intelligent stupidly believe that being a Marxist or liberal suddenly makes them appear enlightened. Naomi Campbell is a bimbo known only for her looks. Therefore, she wants to appear intelligent and politically astute, so she visits Hugo Chavez–ironically showing the world how much a bimbo she really is.

    Gabe –

Thanks. That (sadly) makes sense. In college I definitely met people who thought supporting socialist ideals made them more intellectual. However, if this is really why Naomi Campbell is visiting Chavez, then the “not going to be political” comment is just a lie. (No, I guess I’m not shocked by stupidity and lies coming from celebs.)

It’s the left-overs/has-beens maneuver. Any press is good press. Just look at the visitors log for Chavez. Need I say more?

I think in her case it’s a Me-Phone. AS in, It’s all about me.

I’d give a thousand dollars to charity if she’d suddenly get all mad and beat the crap out of him with her phone, and storm off…with a clip posted on YouTube.
