Nickelodeon goes moonbatty
As you know, I’ve got two kids under 8. We let them watch a few shows on the children’s cable TV network, Nickelodeon–Jimmy Neutron, Spongebob, Avatar. Earlier this spring, we even took them to the Nick Hotel in Florida. We enjoyed it, but I’ve had my reservations.
A few years ago, I wrote about the network’s politically correct treatment of the Alamo. They ignored a respected historian’s warning that the channel’s characterization of the battle at the Alamo as a dispute that was fought so “white farmers could keep their slaves” was unfair and simplistic. That was bad enough. Now, Nickelodeon has gone completely moonbatty. Blogger ArmyWifeToddlerMom points to an unbelievable piece of propaganda aired on Nickelodeon and aired by left-winger Linda Ellerbee (hat tip - Rachelle and Spouse Buzz):
This Nickeldeon “news program”, is not a news program. It is a leftist primer on how to be a “left-wing radical REBEL”.
I am not a blind follower of our Government, and I also think that Government should be watched by it’s citizens. It is our civic duty.
However this program led by Ellerby, is anti-war, anti- GWOT, anti-military.
This “news program” is not about people changing the World around them.
Ms. Ellerby uses leftist propaganda buzz words like “taking on the establishment”.
She shows a group of “tweenagers” walking around in orange jumpsuits, hooded and yelling from a bullhorn. “We are not ok, with people being tortured by American soldiers!” “Are cooperation’s priority over human lives?”
There is also a call for the impeachment of the President in the second segment of the video, “democracy is at stake because of the President violating the Constitution”.
The fourth segment of video shows another tweenager, who has put together a video of wounded Iraqi children, with the song Jesus Loves Me playing over it. This teenager blames America, the military, for what is happening in Iraq. This young girl says “she finds, videos and facts on the Internet” to show what is REALLY happening in Iraq. I am guessing she is getting these images from Al Jazeera.
Nickel[o]deon is the new training ground for leftist propaganda.

So glad my son no longer watches Nickelodeon at all anymore. He has outgrown it.
But I will definitely pass this around to let my friends know. What a shame!!
A kid wanting to impeach Pres. Bush??? That’s San Francisco, I suppose.
Then again, I am not so shocked….
Its seems like only yesterday they were dumping green slime on Alanis’ head.
The president is violating the Constitution? HA! Have they ever bothered to read and understand the Constitution? I doubt it. They couldn’t tell an Article from an Amendment…..
Honestly, I quit watching Nickelodeon when they cancelled Invader Zim.
Still have to watch the Avatar, sorry.
Wakeees….!!!!
The cartoons have been subverted for years by the Hollywood left, and they have unabashedly been propagandizing for leftist/environmentalist agendas. See Captain Planet and the Planeteers.
This is not new, but it certainly is of great concern.
WOW!
I knew that Linda Ellerbee was liberal, but that “news” segment is shocking.
At least they showed a diverse array of causes… oh wait. Where are the young people speaking out against abortion, petitioning for school choice, etc?
I am also amused by the girl who thinks putting photo montages of war scenes together with music is reporting facts so people can see what’s really going on in the war.
I don’t have kids yet, but should a children’s network be dealing with this stuff at all? I mean, even if they were taking conservative stances, does politics belong on Nickelodeon? This is insanity. I thought the liberal indoctrination was still limited to the schools.
May God help our country.
Another Avatar fan here, I haven’t been comfortable with the mini-music video I’ve been catching after the show. It’s nowhere near as bad as the Ellerby program, but it definitely smacks of anti-authority (and anti-education) attitude. Sigh, if I had kids I’d have to kill TV entirely, there are a limited set of networks I watch as it is. And the “Big Three” (ABC, CBS, NBC) haven’t been in that set for a long time now.
I use a home-brew DVR, and clip out anything that isn’t part of the show before I archive it. If the DVDs weren’t so expensive (3 episodes for nearly $12), I would just buy them, but I won’t pay that rate even for Inuyasha.
The video doesn’t work anymore, they may have taken it down.
Patriot Xeno - I think it still works, you just have to sit through a commercial first.
UN-Flippin’-Believable!
No words…!!!!
My God, I just watched that show and my jaw dropped how. Thanks for the perfect example of what is WRONG with Hollywood and the media now doing a kids program like this.
I wrote to let them know that this show is now blocked on my TV.
Patriot Xeno the video works for me also.

Get us some email addresses for the clowns in suits at Nickelodeon.
Un-farking-believable.
Boycott Boycott Boycott Boycott Boycott until the idiots get the message all people with even a little bit of a moral compass should immediately boycott all advertisers and Nick itself. It’s the only way to send a message that we are fed up with this garbage, the porn halloween and the rest of it….BOYCOTT!
The scarier part is they want these kids to watch MTV in a couple more years.
Yes their is feebie but you cant say them here and using characters just wouldnt deliver the appropriate message.
Maybe thet should try YOGA.
ok, that wasnt funny.
Shoot me, I’m having flashbacks of Academic Pressure.
ok, that wasnt funny either.
I’ve deleted Nick from the channel lineup at my house. Now I want to go after the sponsors. This is utter bullshit.
Several years ago when I lived in Anchorage a couple of middle school girls (under the tutelage of their activist teacher)wrote a letter to the editor about sweatshops in the Anchorage Daily News.
At about the same time Jonah Goldberg had an article in National Review about sweatshops. I used parts of his article for a rebuttal letter to the editor.
Here is that article.
For the record, I always saw Nickelodeon as a danger to children. Over a decade ago, I saw the programming my best friend allowed her daughter to watch and was horrified by the obvious influence of “child psychologists”.
Case in point: Doug
They go out of their way to make the children as many different colors as possible, even purple and green.
Doug’s fantasy super-hero identity is “Quail Man”, a normal person with no super powers who is able to defeat every threat by reasoning with it and appealing to it’s better nature.
His friend has a fantasy super-hero identity which takes action and confronts evil in order to defeat it, always getting into trouble and failing.
Fortunately, “Quail Man” would come to the rescue by “making peace” with the enemy.
When I heard the the musical band, “The Beets”, singing about eating vegetables and avoiding meat, I just couldn’t take it anymore and had to leave the room.
WTF!!!
They will not get their mitts on my kids!
As for those kids whose lives they have already affected…I’m way past pissed.
Boycott-doesn’t even begin to describe…
I have just gone to
http://www.peacetakescourage.com/page-contact.htm
and submitted the following message:
Wonder if I’ll get a response.
someone tell me what I’m doing wrong, I cannot play the video.
Thanks,
Steve
Nickelodeon does not appear to have a toll free number (that I could find.) I found this:
Q. Is there an 800 number for Nickelodeon, Nick-at-Nite, TV Land, and Games & Sports (GAS) where viewers can voice their complaints, offer praise, and ask questions
A. Nickelodeon does not have a toll-free number at this time. Viewers may reach us on online at nick.com, tvland.com or noggin.com or by dialing (212) 258-7579.
I definitely think that the best way to contact them would be good old-fashioned mail.
I tried to find more contact info and found this gem by Ellerbee. From here you can link to other “news” stories.

Haha I watch the Avatar myself. And no I’m not surprised in the least at the political aspirations of some on Nick. Remember this is the channel that the insane Rossie O’ started out on. Plus the west coast location…
@22 I doubt it, peace movements in the US, and in general the West seem to think with Sanctions and strong words will stop the violence. Wishful thinking of the most dangerous kind. But moving on from what I’ve noticed they seem to protest only US Military evolvement.
Oddly silent on all else no? In the West there seems to be confusion over what a soldier is. S/He is no a police man, he is not a disaster relief tool, he is the ability of his political leadership to expand its reach or enact its will. A Warrior of the modern Era, and this war has given us mercifully light losses.
Peace at any cost, isn’t worth much. Not when it means selling out a few million people to death for it. (IE look at the Events in the Region of Vietnam after the withdrawal. Somalia, or the slow response in the Balkans.)
And to phrase one more old saying, Hide from the war, and it will come to you.
Hmmmm… It may be time for Nickelodeon to “disappear” from all the tv tuners in the house, just like bratz dot com disappeared from the computers ;^)
Kids need to be working on their own personal development, not telling older, wiser, more experienced adults how to live their lives. This program is laughable…and also rather disturbing.
Also, why am I not surprised to hear that Micah (the kid that thinks that US military troops torture detainees) is from Berkley, CA.
I was able to watch up until the school board agreed.
How did the kids explain how these shops will make up for the lost revenue.
I am not justifying the slave labor, just looking at a reality.
Was is the cost of living like in the countries that the children objected to?
What about the kids cell phones? Computers? makeup?
BTW, when a kid demands anything from me, I walk away..
A liberal’s mind is a terrible waste.
O’Reilly will be all over this one too. The backlash will be gruesome!
What’s needed is for the channels to be offered ‘A La Carte’. The nutroots channel(s) would drop off or go the way of Air America.
As it is the awful channels - like Nickelodeon - are geting funds they are not earning since cable is a “get one, you gotta take them all” proposition.
With ala carte - and thus accountability - the bad channels would have to make the choice of shaping up or massivelky losing revenue.
We don’t let our kids watch Nick but they’re 3 & 4. I had heard from a friend whose kids are a bit older than mine that she thought it was a bit “left-wing” and this is from someone who is a little to the left of center. We won’t be watching it and will check the boycott list. For those of you who complain about boycotts, as they say on the airlines, we have a lot of choices when we buy toys and we’re going to choose toys that don’t spin anti-military-Dad’s job, anti-war, anti-GWOT garbage.
Spent all day at the hospital with daughter, Happy Halloween to all!
Forget Nick’s shows. Show this to your kids. You and they will love it. I promise.
http://www.youtube.com/v/QZFkZiwMLZ4
time … thanks for the link … watched it earlier from your link on the yahoo group … also letting you know I just sent you an email on another subject …
Thanks for the head’s up. I had no clue that Linda Ellerbee had show on Nick. I remember her from NPR. I had a college work study job weekends at MPBN. She was a wack job then too.
oh.. 6 am… no wonder. TV not allowed on until after school, homework, snack, playing outside, playing video games… then if they have time they can watch until dinner. Not after dinner, afterwards they read.
I’m not a big fan of TV. No Saturday morning CRAP. They can watch movies on Friday and Saturday nights after dinner. But I get final say on what.
I’m not raising couch potatoes… or liberals
Wow, so Nickelodeon went Lefty?
That sucks. I loved Nickelodeon as a kid (this was 10-14 years ago).
Is this fanatacism in Ellerby a new thing, because I don’t recall any of this Marxist crap when I was watching it. They actually had real stories and weren’t just a PC plank, as far as I can remember.
Well Michelle… there’s always uh, Catholic TV.
Although as a reporter and staff for a Catholic newspaper, there are a few zany Catholic groups who believe in “appeasement Jesus” and tow the “illegal and immoral war” line.
Weirdest experience I ever had was reading through our old editions and our Editor had a column entitled “‘allowed be our name” which was a scathing attack on the way America used to be vis-a-vis voting rights for women and blacks. The odd part was among the seeming PC-ness was also a scathing indictment of abortion. It was weird seeing those two ideas in tandem.
Purplepeep~that’s the problem here. I can’t cancel Nick. It’s part of our basic cable package. No way to make it hurt in their pocketbook.
It has ALWAYS been lefty. Just used to be more subtle. Now it flaunts its ideology as another manifestation of BDS and uses children to brainwash children with this garbage.
The lefties are expert exploiters and will never hesitate to use the most vulnerable or impressionable to acxomplish their goals.
Yeah, 2many, I wonder whatever happened to the FCC interest in making cable ala carte?
I stopped having cable TV years back, some of what I might watch (individual progs/channels) can be had online anyway. And I rarely watch very much telly to start with, broadcast or otherwise.
But, yeah, pay for only the channels you want to subscribe to is the way to go!
Pressured by politicians who were bought off by the cable/satellite industry to leave the status quo.
UP NEXT ON NICK:
Palestinian children’s television specials about Hamas, the people’s choice for educating your kids.
You just wait…
Wolf
This is outrageous. Like we don’t have enough anti-American adults to contend with. I used to watch Nick with my son, but my son is now 20 and in the Navy and I emailed Nick. We don’t need Linda’s crap on t.v. Nick used to be safe for the most part when my son was young and I enjoyed Hey Dude and some other shows along with him, but to get to the point that they are allowing this women to sell anti-American, anti-troops garbage is way over the line. I told them to get rid of her. I hope they get bombarded with emails and letters. I just posted it on a board and hope the word spreads. Thanks for passing this info on.
Jimmy Neutron Rocks!!!!
But the rest of the shows are pretty much worthless or worse than worthless.
Nickelodeon is owned by MTV networks. What do you expect?
Nick USED to be decent, with shows like Mysterious Cities of Gold, Grimm’s Fairy Tales that we let the kids watch, but in the mid 1990’s they thought SNL-style slapstick toons were better and they completely redid their network.
This is by far the worst I have seen from them, and let’s contact them and let them know we won’t stand for this kind of programming.
I will be calling Nick tomorrow morning, and have told my kids we are boycotting Nick. They are upset about not watching Avatar anymore, but right now my son is very upset (he’s 14) after watching those kids on that show. He’s ranting and raving about how idiotic these kids are for not knowing what is really going on in the world. He makes me proud!
AJ - Blast me as you will. I can take it (DRAMA)
.
Hey, Yoga calms me…I am fiesty and hyper. So be it!
Lucky for you I also have a sense of humor!
If Nick really wants to show “rebels with a cause” and kids “dissent”, why doesn’t Nick do such a sympathetic, encouraging “news” story on kids who are involved in the pro-life movement and approvingly highlight their activies?
#51 - sorry, doesn’t fit the bill. No story…not provocative enough. These kids are too busy on their nights off watching the Kardashian’s nonsense.
Why doesn’t Nick do a feature interviewing the Iraqi women who as girls Saddaam’s perverted sons regularly picked from middle schools for a night on the town, or show kids how just how much freedom Muslim females have over there?
You think this Nick’s slants are terrible, MM should check out what “facts” (in ecology, race relations, idealized energy) are being fed as gospel to schoolers on the Discovery and Science Channels.

After 9/11, Linda Ellerbee did an equally annoying special pushing kids on the Islam is peace thing. It was absurd. Apparently, things haven’t changed.
DS
My grandchildren have not been allowed to watch nick for some time. I had pointed out to my daughter after babysitting one afternoon, that everything Nick was showing was making fun of parental authority, parents themselves and rules imposed by parents.
This is a sick channel, used for propaganda by the left, under the cover of a cartoon network. America’s madrasah(?) schooling.
Looks like they want to raise another, larger generation of red diaper babies.
What’s sad is that instead of empowering children to become the establishment of the future, they are sending a message that the children are victims whose only recourse is to whine and complain about how helpless they are.
How about teaching the kids to think for themselves?
Way to go Nick. Glad to know you are sacrificing our future generation to your propaganda war of today.
If anyone is still looking for specific contact info, I found the following:
Nickelodeon should’ve known better, but I’m sure they all think Linda Ellerbee is a middle-of-the-road moderate. The media world is full of radicals and since they aborted all of their children, they have to recruit yours in order to keep the socialist dream alive.
greenfairie, i think you are on to something there!
I have not found TV programming that does not degrade the authority of the parents or police. I used to watch Law And Order SVU, stopped, after a few weeks ago they did a program on ‘our government taking US citizens to foreign countries and torturing them’. I watched it in total disbelief, knowing that there are libs out there that actually beleive this tripe. Glad my kids are all grown up.
RIIIIGGHT…
And MTV Networks are owned by Viacom who also owns Paramount who is planning a G.I. Joe movie where GIJOE is now an acronym and the man himself is no longer a Marine.
Paramount will simply turn Joe’s name into an acronym.
Paramount didn’t feel that they had a market for a Marine Hero given people’s distaste for the Military these days. Especially American Military. So this should.. market better. In spite of the fact that GI Joe is actually based off a real Marine, that conveniently just passed away so Paramount can run with this abomination in spite of this breaching their contract with him.
http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/10849526.html
Fark MTV and Paramount and Viacom!
#61 -
Changing GI Joe into an acronym instead of a Marine? That’s bad! If they think there’s no market for a Marine Hero, I would prefer they keep their hands off GI Joe all together.
You know, for Hollywood being so anti-war, all of their preachy socialist-pimping movies have been tanks and bombs lately.
Nickelodeon has just isolated all of the children who have loved ones in Iraq or who have served a tour. I wonder if Nick is planning on doing some sensitivity training now, you know so that my kid won’t have to be at school and hear other kids say things like “Your dad and brother murder innocent people and torture them.”
Thanks Nick. Being a military family is hard enough… and stressful enough. It’s hard to have to explain things like OPSEC to a child, but now we get to also explain to them that Nickelodeon is pushing a leftist agenda and mentality, so they can’t watch it (which we refuse to have broadcast TV in our home anyway, but … )and that is why “Billy” said such hurtful, wrong, and mean things on the playground today.
