Kucinich leads the impeachment circus: Introducing a Cheney impeachment resolution next week
Strike up the nutroots band! Impeach-a-palooza is coming to the House floor. Dennis Kucinich announces his plans to introduce a privileged resolution that will bring articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney:
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced today that he will be offering a privileged resolution on the House floor next week that will bring articles of impeachment against the Vice President, Richard B. Cheney.
“The momentum is building for impeachment,” Kucinich said. “Millions of citizens across the nation are demanding Congress rein in the Vice President’s abuse of power.
“Despite this groundswell of opposition to the unconstitutional conduct of office, Vice President Cheney continues to violate the U.S. Constitution by insisting the power of the executive branch is supreme.
“Congress must hold the Vice President accountable. The American people need to let Members of Congress know how they feel about this. The Vice President continues to use his office to advocate for a continued occupation of Iraq and prod our nation into a belligerent stance against Iran. If the Vice President is successful, his actions will ensure decades of disastrous consequences.”
The privileged resolution has priority status for consideration on the House floor. Once introduced, the resolution has to be brought to the floor within two legislative days, although the House could act on it immediately. Kucinich is expected to bring it to the House floor on Tuesday, November 6.
The measure has 21 of the most rabid left-wing Democrat sponsors in the House:
Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Robert Brady (D-PA), Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO), Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), Rep. Sam Farr (D-CA), Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA), Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Rep. Henry Johnson (D-GA), Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-MI), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), Rep. James Moran (D-VA), Rep. Donald Payne (D-NJ), Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Rep. Diane Watson (D-CA), Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) and Rep. Albert Wynn (D-MD).
A year ago this month, Nancy Pelosi spoke these words:
“I have said it before and I will say it again: Impeachment is off the table.”
Come again, Nan?
***
The Influence Peddler explains the rules governing “privileged resolutions” and points out that the ball is in Nancy Pelosi’s court:
Despite my experience in the House of Representatives, I can claim no expertise on a topic explored so rarely. However, it certainly seems that while Mr. Kucinich may assert that his impeachment resolution is privileged, the Speaker will have to determine that question — and her ruling may be appealed to the whole of the House.
If she rules in favor, then the debate on Kucinich’s impeachment resolution begins. If she rules against and is sustained, then it’s over before it begins.
So assuming Kucinich carries through on this — which seems inevitable — Speaker Pelosi will likely have to decide whether to deny the Netroots their fondest desire, or whether to allow an impeachment debate. If she rules against him, Mr. Kucinich could appeal her ruling, and potentially all Members of the House to go on record in favor of, or in opposition to, beginning the debate over impeachment.
That ought to help the Congressional approval rating.
Oh, sweet schadenfreude.

Shouldnt he be off somewhere waiting for the mother ship?
He holds Cheney responsible for his abduction.
Could someone fill me in – he did actually get more votes than someone else?
Well, friends, Rush Limbaugh called this one. But it’s a little late. Just a little. Rush said he would not be surprised to see Articles Of Impeachment by the past summer.
Here they go, trying paralyze the Bush Administration as it is fighting World War III. Whether or not we like and agree with the Admin on how it is waging the War, Bush and company are at least waging the War. This impeachment action is despicable and serves unmistakable notice to the enemy that we are indeed a house divided against itself.
It also tells us at full volume just how far out there the Democrat Party has flung itself into left field.
What’s next?
This is excellent. Let Dennis Kucinich become THE face and THE voice of the democrat party.
I like what Dennis Miller said about DK and his UFO spotting, “DK not only saw a UFO, he was in the driver’s seat”.
Stupid is, as stupid does.
To show there’s no hard feelings, Cheney should invite him hunting….
More wasting of tax payer dollars.
feebs is grumbling…..
Bring in the clowns…
Yay! I love to see liberals act moonbatty in public. Nothing like dividing your party with pointless grandstanding. What are they going to charge him with?
Grey Fox no idea…but what is the charge to us?!
I guess I’m not seeing why this is a violation of the Constitition. The judges and others often insist that the judicial branch is supreme, and nobody ever moves to impeach them. (Sadly)
That cad! How dare he think differently from the left wing of the Democratic party!
What would be great is if they all wore tin foil hats at the hearings. Love to have that picture.
Dont worry people, their writers are going on strike.
IMHO … This actually has nothing to do with Cheney per se … this is a continuation of the resentment from the DemoCraps over the Clinton impeachment hearings which they have been determined to repay in kind toward the Republicans from the day they lost in 2000 … DK is just another deranged loon …
What if he gave an impeachment and nobody came?
If Bush is impeached, Chaney will be take care of too.
“Introducing a Cheney impeachment resolution next week”
Right after it is pulled from Uranus, Danny.
This will get their base off their case, so it makes sense for the leadership of the Democrat Party to go forward with this, or at least not stand in the way. Personally, I doubt it will help the Dems that much — their rabid base is after much redder meat — but if the Republicans play it cool as some Dems determinably rush over the cliff, e.g. DKHead, it is conceivable it might help the pubs in some ways.
Unfortunately, that would require a measure of sophisticated political coordination that the Republicans have not exhibited of late. Since the early decades of the 20th century in fact. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, but I don’t see it affecting the outcome of 2008. Say Hello to Hill.
Their vengeance for Bill Clinton will never satiate.
No offense but he says millions want him impeached.
Hell half the people on the street probably couldn’t even tell you who the VP is.
BRING! IT! ON!!!
While the loudest factions of the fascist Dem base will explode with ecstasy inside their skid-marked Underoos at this sort of nonsense, the old-style Democrats – i.e. union members, paleo-liberals, idiots who still echo their parents who loved FDR – will recoil in horror at the nutcases that comprise the Dem Prez field and start looking for sane grown-ups on the Stupid Party side.
All we can hope for is that one of the SP’s empty suits can seem like a lesser enough evil. [sigh]
Thats funny..sad, and true.
They do know B. Spears, Paris Hilton, fitty cent and Akon. Pathetic.
Bad enough not being able to tell you who the VP is … but what is worse is that they also can’t tell you who their senators and representatives are … but they voted for them last time and will vote for them again next time … and they’ll be just as informed the next time as they were last time …
Just as sad as all the above, none of these idiots even know what the Articles of Impeachment ARE, let alone what they say.
Who wants to guess who DK’s legal advisor is?
a) KOS
b) Soros
c) Shirley McLaine
hmm, … could it be
d) Satan?

e) All of the Above
Amen, brothers and sisters, can I get an A-MEN?
hallelujah
Rather than letting Dick Cheney take him hunting, let’s have Teddy “Driving and Diving” Kennedy take him for a ride. No one survives that trip.
This is just more evidence of the democrats’ belief that the worst enemies the US has are the republicans. The republicans know who the real enemies are and are trying to keep the democrats from getting in the way of going after them.
Thats it San Fran Nan. Keep digging that hole deeper. See if you can hit 0%!
Cant wait to hear if Hillery is for or against this one too. Cant believe nut cases like these guys get elected? They must be related to their whole district?
Looks like the Congressional Keebler is not getting enough attention.
These are the same people who are ashamed of being Americans and lay awake at nights worried about what the rest of the world thinks about their embarrassing country.
The rest of the world THINKS YOU ARE MORONS! And while you’re tossing and turning wondering if the global community loves you, it might be a good idea to give a passing thought to what the American people think of you.
The shift toward democratic control in the last election was about change; moving more toward the center. The American people were sick and tired of the Republicans Charlie Brown approach toward leadership, and voted to give the other guys a chance.
The American people did not vote to turn Congress into an insane asylum. And based on the approval ratings for Congress, that concern is coming through loud and clear.
America is looking for leadership. For representatives who believe we are a great nation. For leaders who do not have to apologize for the blood, sweat and tears that made this Country into the greatest democracy the world has ever seen. For people to build on what we have fought so hard to achieve as a nation, and not tear down the very foundations of liberty and freedom. For people to represent THEIR interests and not the interests of those with deep pockets. For leaders who will provide for the common defense and promote the general welfare of all citizens, versus those who sacrifice defense in the name of political correctness and who promote only their individual welfare.
What a sad lot we have in Washington. Representatives who have no ground with reality, primarily because they are professional politicians and have never or infrequently had to experience life in a hard nosed world.
Congress today resembles the French Monarchy immediately prior to the French revolution. It is high time for that “let them eat cake” outlook on life to move over in favor of representatives who care about the American people and this country. People whose loyalties lie with the American people as opposed to those whose only loyalty is to themselves.
These people are just sick. Rushing to make sure terrorists are not being waterboarded and then DURING A TIME OF WAR pulling this stunt.
Our poor Founding Fathers must be crying.
This ought to be interesting. What people here seem to be missing is that rather than giving Kucinich a boost with the Liberals, it is going to be putting Nancy on the spot. It is going to make her decide whether to honor her word, to actually be honest about the promise she made concerning impeachment, or whether she will see this as an opportunity to raise the poll numbers for Congress. I see her weasling her way out by claiming that impeaching the President was off the table however she never said anything about the Vice President. I think she will grant the papers, and then play stupid. Far-be-it from her to actually be an upstanding individual. After all, she is from the town that brought you men in leather pleasuring other men in broad daylight in the middle of the street where children could watch.
Now, the President and Vice President have about a year left. Does anyone remember just how long the whole process took with Clinton? Moving on an impeachment of ANYONE at this time would be a HUGE waste of time and money, even if it was warranted. By the time everything gets organized, the hearings and vote take place and everything else..IF they even start it, the election will be over and more than likely the next President will be in office. This is nothing more than a grandstanding moment for the politician from Ork, and in the end, it is going to get alot of Dems in trouble having to scramble to cover their butts.
After all, another election for their jobs is just around the corner as well. With poll numbers like theirs, I would think they would be looking for something better to do in order to keep their jobs.
As far as people giving the Dems a hance, they had over 40 years of a chance. The Reps only 12. Just goes to show how short a memory people have. Then again, after 2.5 years of Bush’s first term, the Dem candidates were claiming it was “time for a change” as if her had been there for decades.
I really laughed when I read this. Kucinich said MOMENTUM was building for this? Has he been in Madison, WI or something?
Can you say “Campaign Stunt!”
Keith Ellison? Maybe he does want more Islam here. I’m beginning to find his motives suspicious.
I may have missed something along the line, but I always thought that impeachment was dependent upon a crime having been committed–what is Dick Cheney accused of, specifically?
On second thought, considering the Scooter Libby case,I guess the Democrats don’t need any specific grounds to lynch a Republican.
John Adams called the office of V.P., the most useless office in the gov’t. V.P. John Garner said it wasn’t worth “a warm bucket of spit”. The Vice President, other than being the President of the Senate, with no vote (unless tied) and no voice in the debates, and 1st in line for succession, has no Constitutional power. To impeach him on “high crimes” is nothing more than a political ploy. What’s the charge? “Being opposed to the far left” will be the indictment, I guess. With all the problems and important issues to resolve, this is another useless waste of time and money for political grandstanding in order to try to hurt the Administration, for the election a year from now. No wonder their approval rating is so low.
Nutroots wetdream strategy:
1. Remove (impeach and convict) Vice President Cheney.
2. Block confirmation of replacement Vice President nominated by the President under the 25th Amendment.
3. Remove Bush via impeachment.
4. Nancy Pelosi becomes President.
5. Heaven on earth….
—-
Analysis:
Pelosi can do what she pleases. It won’t matter either way. Killing it would be her best option, IMHO, because it protects the Party. Allowing it to be considered may sooth the nutroots, but the majority of Americans will be turned off, just as they were over Clinton’s impeachment. And the backlash will cost the Democrats the 2008 election. In other words, the Democratic Party will destroy itself if Pelosi allows consideration of this resolution.
Besides, there are no grounds (i.e, “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors”) to remove either Cheney or Bush. Impeachment requires a PUNISHABLE OFFENSE, not the made up offenses that the nutroots conjure up.
Also, there is no way that the Senate will remove Cheney (or Bush), especially as there are no real grounds, because the Democrats don’t have the votes to push it through, even if Pelosi could get enough Democrats to vote for it (and this is problematical).
Attempting to impeach Cheney, then Bush, is a symbolic assault on the Republicans by the far left contingent of the Democrats. It will make them feel self-righteous proud, but will (a) fail, and (b) set the stage for the Republicans to play hardball in a counter strategy of revenge.
—
Counter strategy:
Republicans file privileged resolution to expel Dennis Kucinich from the House.
When that fails, Republicans file privileged resolution to censure Dennis Kucinich AND file resolution to expel John Murtha from the House, for corruption.
When that fails, Republicans file privileged resolution to censor Murtha and another one to expel Jim McDermott, for his cell phone interception crime.
And so on.
Apply this scorched earth policy long enough and to every co-sponsor, and you freeze the House from doing any business.
In addition,
After the aforementioned Kucinich resolution fails, begin a Justice Department criminal and IRS investigation of Dennis Kucinich and the other sponsors of this resolution.
Begin criminal and IRS investigations of George Soros, MoveOn.org, CodePink, and KOS. Move against New York Times publisher Pinch Sulzberger with a charge of violating the Espionage Act,
And if Bush wanted to be really vindictive, kill any federal spending in the districts of those 22 representatives that sponsored this resolution, and place each and every co-sponsor on the “no-fly” list.

Strategy 1,2,3: check
Strategy 4,5: blocked by Hill and Bill (can’t let another female take away that 1st Woman President mantle)
Analysis: check
Counter Strategy: Incomplete
Additions:
Prosecute and expel “Cold Cash” Jefferson
File sedition charges against Teddy, “Doomer” Schumer, and others that are supporting our enemies.
Investigate and prosecute the Al Qaeda Times and those leaking classified information to their “reporters”.
Investigate and prosecute all of the Clinton money laundering schemes.
There are my additions … hope you don’t mind.
What is funny, telling and irksome all at the same time is that the reasons for the impeachment of Bush administration officials are always presented as an afterthought, and that says alot. In this case, reasoning for impeaching the VP is based entirely on a complete fabrication: we are not occupiers in Iraq(just as the Iraq government who continue to want our military presence there) and while millions of Americans out of 300 million Americans may want out of Iraq, millions more don’t when presented with the potential alternatives.
But naturally baby-whing noises mean more to liberals than the expression of mature, well-reasoned thought. It just makes me sick that we’re paying for this endless, self-defeatist nonsense with our hard-earned tax dollars, and that has to stop.
Just once I’d like to see the conservative Republicans, united, come out with “all guns blazing” and “blast” the Democrats once and for all. Just come out and show your disgust with the liberals. Though they may try, the msm can’t ignore all of them. Just to see them all stand up and do some “podium pounding” would be a breath of fresh air.
#45, graysonret.
That would be a sight my poor old eyes would love to see. Won’t happen because they might offend someone . No backbone to do the right thing for this country and our childrens futures.
Um…I guess Dick won’t have a chance to defend himself from any charges made. That just won’t do, to have the Vice President able to speak to the charges against him.
After all, that might smack of fairness and due process – can’t have that.
The left won’t even give Cheney a Stalinesque show trial. Just a simple execution will do nicely, thank you.
Dennis Kucinich is an Alien Close Encounter of the 5th kind.
Doing the jobs that the sane just won’t do.
This whole idea is just silly to me. It’s a technical point, but I think that if Cheney were to be successfully impeached, the Constitution kicks in for Bush to appoint a new VP. That confirmation could be tied up procedurally, but Bush can’t be impeached until the VP slot is resolved.
So it’s either impeach Bush and you get President Cheney, or impeach Cheney and you get Bush’s replacement fight. You can’t fight the VP nomination and impeach Bush at the same time. As far as I can tell, there is no way to get them both out so Nancy is President. The only way that happens is if the President and Vice President are taken out by an enemy attack or act of God. Congress can’t get rid of them both at once. That has to wait until Jan.’09.
While this is absolutely despicable, on another level it’s a good thing. The more time our elected officials do nothing, the less time they do something destructive. If they spend 5000 hours doing this, they aren’t enacting laws bowing to Sharia, enacting laws 180 degrees out from sharia (gay “marriage”, additional abortion “rights” [wrongs], and on and on), picking our pockets for more money, or other things which would form a very long list. OTOH, maybe the admin should just get some backbone and start enforcing treasonous acts. First in line would the Speaker of the House for her “discussions” with the head of a terrorist state as she has NO authority to conduct?/subvert foreign policy. That is the domain of the executive branch. Then you go after any congressperson who has made disparaging remarks about the USA while overseas. Such acts are indeed treason and need to treated as such. As long as there is no consequence to treason, they will keep doing it.
Prediction: Articles of impeachment will be brought against a member of the executive branch of every administration from this day forward.
Impeachment, which was a dreaded and extreme term, will become just another one of the games our elected officials play on our dime. . .and will lose all its impact and meaning.
When the MSM does stories about it, they will blame Newt Gingrich and Ken Starr for ALL of the “partisan warfare” in Washington. The “Clinton War Room” will be a distant memory.
As stupid as this is, there is one thing Cheney can count on: Bush not supporting him in any way, ala Scooter…
What exactly is the impeachment for? Am I missing something? What “High crimes or Misdemeanors” have been alleged? I know he says:
Funny! I never knew insisting something, anything, was a “violate the U.S. Constitution.” Go figure.
By that measure insisting you saw a UFO is a “violate the U.S. Constitution.” Should we impeach Kucinich?
Answer; yes, and no.
The Democrats can’t help from shooting them selves in the face. To bad all their theatrics in Congress hasn’t pushed one spending bill to the Presidents desk. How low can that approval rating go! Everybody Limbo!
I just wrote Sam Farr and told him he is a moron for sigining up with Kucinich. I understand they will hold their victory party at Shirley McClains
Do the Demolosers have anything better to do with our tax money?!
Good lord! No wonder they have such abysmal approval ratings.
Hey, Dumbocrats! It’s not going to happen. GET OVER IT.
People should be asking the Hill how she stands on this move for impeachment. That would really put her in an awkward position. Love to see the look on he face as she tries to waffle that one. Her party is her worse enemy.
I hope this brings those Dems who are supporting this negative numbers — what a pathetic congress.
The Dems are so fixated on going after Bush/Cheney they have overlooked the fact that neither of them are running.
It is kinda like “fighting the last war”
and the MSM are supportive because they are in denial & desperately trying to uphold the illusion that they are still relevant… personally, I love it.
I can count, & 2008 ends our 40 years in the wilderness.
Move along now, nothing to see here. Just the feeding of the Nutroot Squirrels…
Why?…..Because a double digit approval rating is just too damned high for this congress!
I think this is to distract from Senator Hillary Clinton’s poor performance during the last Democrat Debate. Media Matters can’t get the American Public to bite anymore so…they pull out old reliable George W Bush and Dick Cheney message “They are really BAD”..really this is pathetic this is how they are going to win more seats in the Congress and win the Presidential election. It is mind boggling how, when the Dems have the advantage in the MSM, that they can still screw up their chances at successfully re gaining somekind of POWER.
I think it could turn into a great move. It might make their fringe elements happy, but I don’t think you’re average voter is going to appreciate the three-ring with an election just around the corner.
There’s a whole lot of CA on that list…
1 shy of 1/3 swj….. the dirtbags.
Possibly, but more importantly, I think, is that the exchange between Russert and Clinton is a minor but telling illuetration of what would happen to Clinton were she to find herself in a debate on Fox News – the venue of which they’re all absolutely terrified.
Yes, I’m beating the “Democrat candidates must be shamed or held to task for not debating on Fox News” mantra again, but whether we take it for granted or not, we are talking about the next leader of the most powerful nation on earth with the capability to improve or ruin you and your children’s futures with their tax policies and judicial appointments. And the stark reality as we know is that that’s no exaggeration.
Admit it – wouldn’t you just love to see 90 minutes of Hillary the way she was in front of Russert, whing xhilsihly about he “playing gotcha” 9he wasn’t, the question was completely legit) and self-destructing beyond any ability of the MSM to whitewasher her?
I don’t know what anyone can do but make much noise, but you know what? Making alot of noise often works. The Dems debating on Fox News. Why not? After all, if they want to be President(s) of the United States Of America, let them then show a modicum of courage. Talk radio, newspapers, e-mails to Republican candidates to press the issue hard. Any way you can think of to get the word out and press the issue hard. Now’s the time. Think about it – before it’s too late. And no fatalism please – Reagan wouldn’t like it.
Say, isn’t that “ribbon” at the top really a noose????
I thought nooses were forbidden now…….
Wouldn’t Bush be able to replace him? This doesn’t make sense if the object is to get to the Queen Bee for POTUS.
#39 Actuality Congress can impeach any officer of the Federal Government for any reason it **** well pleases, as long as it dares face the voters for it. That is the Check on Impeachment.
