Project Valour-IT update: Where are the liberal blogs?
The yearly fund-raising drive for Project Valour-IT, which donates voice-activated laptops to disabled soldiers, kicked off earlier this week. I joined the Marine team, which is currently in second place–close behind the Army team. Reach into your pockets if you can and chip in often. The friendly blog competition to support Project Valour-IT runs through November 11. Soldiers’ Angels, which organizes and runs the drive, is one of my favorite military charities.
You may recall that on the second day of competition, I made a pledge:
In addition to my donation yesterday, I will chip in another $25 for each left-wing blogger, up to 10 total, who signs up today. Send me an e-mail and let me know which team you’ve joined.
You may be interested to learn that I haven’t received a single e-mail. Soldiers’ Angels webmaster Holly Aho says she has been on the lookout for any left-wing Project Valour-IT members and would give me a heads-up if any signed up. So far, to our knowledge, none have.
This is a non-partisan cause and a wonderful project. In addition to the fund-raiser:
Valour-IT accepts donations in any amount to support the purchase and distribution of laptops, but also offers a sponsorship option. An individual or organization may sponsor a wounded soldier by completely funding the cost of a laptop and continuing to provide that soldier with personal support and encouragement throughout recovery. This has proved to be an excellent project for churches, groups of coworkers or friends, and members of community organizations such Boy Scouts.
Originally Valour-IT provided the voice-controlled software, but now works closely with the Department of Defense Computer/electronic Accommodations Program (CAP): CAP supplies the adaptive software and Valour-IT provides the laptop. In addition, DoD caseworkers serve as Valour-IT’s “eyes and ears” at several medical centers, identifying possible laptop recipients. Wounded military personnel can also directly request a laptop through the sign-up form or through the Valour-IT/Soldiers’ Angels representatives at the following medical centers:
* Balboa Naval Hospital
* Brooke Army Medical Center
* Madigan Regional Medical Center
* National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda Naval Hospital)
* Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton
* Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital (29 Palms)
* Walter Reed Army Medical Center
Thanks to the efforts of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Valour-IT is also able to reach patients in VA hospitals who would benefit from a Valour-IT laptop.
Also check out the Project Valour-IT auctions!
I hereby raise my pledge to $50 for each left-wing blogger, up to 10 total, who joins one of the Project Valour-IT teams.
Anyone?

I’m in for a $5 match for each of the first 10 liberal blogs to sign on.
Where are the liberal blogs? Absent. Big surprise. They never supported the troops, which we knew all along and they want us to lose the war. Shame, shame, shame on them all.
Same here Steve.
Though mine will go to Army.
Sorry Michelle. Gotta front for my boys (and girls).
In liberalese “we support the troops” mean we hate the military and all the idiots that serve in it. Surprised? Another liberal lie.
Go Army!
I have a sneaky suspicion that they would sponsor certain voices (you know, if Beauchamp or McBeth ever needed one) but the voices of those who are proud of their service need not apply.
That’s okay, we’ve got it. Semper Fi.
To make it more clear…
I was tossing in $5 per liberal blog…
But I’ll sweeten the pot:
I’ll donate $5 per liberal blog, PER BRANCH for the first ten…
So that’s up to $200 outta my wallet.
Bring it on, Lefties. I want to pay out…
Hello all, I can do the 5 thing as well, though I have to support the boys and girls in blue, Uncle Sam’s Confused Group
Just in case anyone didn’t get that, the USCG
Have a great day everyone
There is no program around that a Liberal blog will support unless it has something to do with the further spread of hatred, lies and racism towards Republicans and Bush. When it comes to those types of things, they seem to be able to doll out the cash in record numbers. howevcer, when it comes to actually supprting the troops, all those brave men and women who were disabled in the war, the ones they claim Bush doesn’t care about, they are noticably absent. They are able to talk a good game, but when it comes to actually supprting those they yell the loudest about, they can’t do it.
It just further proves that Conservatives are the ones who donate towards charities in far larger amounts and far more frequently than those who have a dishonest reputation of caring for those who can’t care for themselves. They have a great publicist, since they are able to maintain this lie for decades yet are unable to prove why they should have it or ever should have in the first place.
Yup…scum, one and all of them.
Where is Markos?? I thought he was a veteran…
Oh, and GO ARMY!!!
Don’t forget that most liberals will tout the following drivel: “The government should be doing all of this! We shouldn’t have to raise money for the troops!” blah, blah, blah.
Yep, love thy neighbor as thyself or love them as far as your forced taxes will take you.
Oh, and GO ARMY!
Liberal bloggers are mean, petulant and self-absorbed. I dare say they’d not take one moment to do or say anything nice in favor of their normal vomitous spew.
Anyone noticed how Kos is doing against LGF in the “Best community” blogger awards? I fell outta my chair kaughing.
Never question their patriotism!
Just tossed a bit of snark Kos’s way.
It’s not like he’ll accept my challenge…
And be nice kids… I linked him here…
Kerry was going to give before he decided not to.
Hillary understands why.
Jimmy Carter is still looking for the Palestine donation link
LMAO. There’s the zinger…
In honor of the names on the wall and the 1st Infantry Division I will donate $25 per liberal blog, up to 10, to the Army team.
Sorry Michelle, I love the Marines too but I have to go where my heart is.
Man, I really do hope that Kos follows that link…
You have to understand libthink. They cannot give anything unless they first take it from you.
I guess the libs see nothing in it for them. If they believed those receiving a voice-activated laptop would use them to denounce the war and bash the President, Project Valour-IT would be prominently anchored at the top of their blogs.
Go Army!
By my count, we’re up to $1,050 in the pot.
Studies have shown, liberals do NOT like to donate to charities, especially those liberals who are well-off. The majority of those who do donate, are lower income (and conservative) christians who can least (economically speaking) afford to do so. They realize there are others who are in situations worse than their own, but are still willing to share. Liberals will do NOTHING unless they think it helps them out politically, and this is not a political issue…it is one of conscience!!
Update:
Army tops $14,000. Next closest team is Marines with $12k.
GO ARMY!!!
Hey trinitytim; Were you with BRO? I was 1/16th recon 67-68.
“Palestine donation link”…….too funny.
29er…
Yep. I was 1st Squadron 4th Cav. Charlie Troop. Served as Tank Commander on M-48 and then Track Commander on an M-113. In country from April 69-April 70.
Check here for commo check
yeh tt; we operated with 1/4 cav alot, got my 1st PH riding on one of your tracks, never got on another one after that. Nice to hear from a brother. twoninerkilo out.
I just bought some Space Shuttle stuff from the auction using ‘buy it now’. I asked in an email that the money go to Michelle’s team, the Marines, if possible.
There are some great items for very cheap in the auction, for those who haven’t looked yet, go take a peek.
Go Marines!
“Charlie Mike 2 Roger”
Sorry to hear about the PH. If you weren’t so much older than me I would have put you on my track and taken good care of you.
Shooter:
The auctions have a “team” associated with them.
But not surprised. Any support for the troops that has come from the left has been shallow and based on political motives.
Any Leftist starts claiming about how he supports the troops, I start looking for the knife he’s hiding somewhere. I’d say that recent Ted Rall cartoon is about how many Leftists view our military.
I just got my first commitment from a reader who will pay $10 a mile for a 5K I am running on Veterans Day. Woot!
Tomorrow I plan on starting some trouble at the recruiting stations. They are all in the same strip mall… so they will each get some home baked goodies, a heartfelt “thank you” and then I am going to rib them by saying things like “You know the Army is beating the Air Force in this competition…”
In the words of Sgt. Tim, Go Army!
Despite the fact that I’m an Army reservist, my heart is still with the Navy (Dad’s service). Go Navy! And Hurray for Project Valour IT!
lol Armywife…
I assume this pledge drive is on your blog? I’m exhausted after the time-shift today (I have no real idea why, but at 8:20 I’m wiped out), but I’ll make time tomorrow to see what’s up.
And I still haven’t gotten a reply from Kos about our collective challenge.
Pansy.
swj, yep it’s posted there! I got a late start, so I just posted it today. I am hoping that as the week rolls forward I can gain a little momentum.
Ignoring a challenge to support out troops is just Kos’ way of saying “screw ‘em!” Nobody says it better!
Michelle, don’t hold your breath…
Oh yeah…GO ARMY!!!
Michelle any takers?
I will match you pledge however I will be sending money to the Air Force team for obvious reasons.
We have takers! Yes!!!

We also have a blogger who calls himself a liberal, but has become a lot more moderate under the influence of Donovan’s “Castle Argghhh”: Insanity Blog
All right guys, time to put your money where your mouth is.
Seriously, thanks so much for throwing down the gauntlet to the lefties. The response is small so far, but hopefully it will grow.
P.S. MM, thanks so much for re-opening registration, which means I can comment now (I’ve also emailed the info).
P.P.S. There have been cases in which liberal bloggers have given Valour-IT financial support but want to remain anonymous and not blog Valour-IT. A sad commentary, but true.
–FbL (co-founder of Valour-IT, heading up this fundraiser)
For some reason, personal events have caused me to miss this fundraiser initially, but I have fixed that now. I have also linked this whole message on my blog and sent private emails to everyone I know asking them to jump in.
Thanks for publicizing this very worthy cause, Michelle!
FBL,
Welcome to Michelle’s site.
Thanks for co-founding this very worthy fundraiser.
Keep me updated if any more lefty blogs jump in, hopefully they will.
FbL
Greg on the Left seems like such a nice guy… Calling people who have served “the Subers and Eichmans who’ve served”…
*rolls his eyes*
This is them supporting the troops?
Didn’t say he was a nice guy, swj719AWG.
But he stepped up to the challenge and whether he likes it or not, his efforts are going to result in comfort and support for wounded troops. I kinda like the irony, frankly. *grin*
Like I told him, I’m going to enjoy donating in his name…
I read that too swj. Let’s see donating money to a project like this while calling the beneficiaries “Subers and Eichmans” is a lot like spitting in a soldier’s face and then handing him a towel to wipe it off. Isn’t that special?
I thought it seemed kind of odd, considering the tone of the rest of his post. He has now clarified:
Perhaps an ill-advised joke, considering the context. But I’m giving him a pass in my book.
So, we’re now up to $1,550 in the pot. Thank you, swj719AWG, SirKnob, trinitytim and F15mech, for amplifying Michelle’s call.
Guess it’s time to start putting our money where our mouths are. My $20 is already out the door, conveniently and evenly divided amongst all the teams (since I’ve got people I know on all 4, I am trying not to burn bridges
)
Thank you all so much for your challenges and for honorably meeting them. I’ve got another lefty blogger for you: Lawyers, Guns, and Money.
steveegg,
My apologies, but I’ve got neither the time nor the brain cells to figure out who has pledged what (busy putting out fundraiser fires–hmmm… bad choice of words, considering I was a CA evacuee, haah!). Would you be so kind as to list it here or email me at my blog so that I can keep track?
Thanks so much!
Screw the libs. They don’t support the troops.
FbL,
Here’s what I’ve got (amounts per left-of-center blog):
Michelle – $50 to Team Marines
F15mech – $50 to Team Air Force
trinitytim – $25 to Team Army
swj719AWG – $5 to each team ($20 total per left-wing blog)
SirKnob – $5 to Team Navy/USCG
me – $5 (divided as equally as possible among the teams)
Cool I paid for the first four (via link @ hotair) I will wait a day or 2, and see if anymore come in before I pay for the fifth.
I’ll pay mine all at once, in the last hours of the drive, with a comment “On behalf of [insert list of leftie-blogs here], for stepping up and proving that they actually do support the troops.”
My deepest thanks to all of you who have offered the challenges above. Your generosity is going to be a blessing to the wounded.
Sadly, missteps on my part have allowed me to become embroiled in political fights associated with this blog–an alarming position for me as as representative of a non-profit like Valour-IT. And it’s been a sad reminder that nasty things are so often said of people these days simply because of their political affiliations. I find such generalizations or slanders–on all sides–deeply offensive.
As “FbL, citizen,” I certainly have my own thoughts on politics/politicians and political rhetoric. But I am here as a representative of Soldiers’ Angels and Valour-IT (unprofessional though I may be at times), and political discussions at any level are not appropriate for me. My apologies for the extent to which I crossed the line today.
To the commenters here who donated, thank you so much for your kindness to Valour-IT. I never commented her before today, and I suspect I will not again, unless it is on the subject of Valour-IT. Again, thank you all so much, and thank you to Michelle for the thousands of dollars she brings into Valour-IT.
FbL,
I was concerned that something like this would happen. (despite everything you have done you have been labeled as a Malkin puppet) I expect is some of the flax you have been taking.
Please keep Michelle/me/this site updated on how much money, in matching funds, we owe Project Valour-IT.
With much respect and thanks.
F15Mech
I should edit that to say…please have a representative of Project Valour-IT keep this site updated…
Gosh, it reads like fbL got slapped by somebody. If so, that’s unfortunate. Hope it’s OK.
As a new presence in milbloggery (a liberal milblogger! EEK!), I’ve enjoyed nothing but good vibes from the milblogging and military community. I was personally invited to participate in the Valor-IT fundraiser by a handful of staunch conservative milbloggers–and, after joining, I’ve enjoyed nothing but good vibes. Folks have written in, thanking me for joining up, welcoming me to the team, and, (so they say) donating to the NAVY team!!! Go Navy!
Michelle set the tone, and, I figure some good old “rough and tumble” joshing over this is all in good fun (Valor-IT used interservice rivalry to good effect, why not political rivalry, eh?). And, hey, if a blog fight raises some extra cash, grand! If it brings in more teams, super!
For Valor-IT I don’t take anything personally (Although it hurts–HURTS–that somebody emailed me saying that, by meeting this challenge, I’d raised X dollars for….Team Army!! AAAAGH!)
I’m psyched that the commenters–F15mech, Swj719awg, steveegg are putting their money where their mouths were. Nothing more American than that.
But it’d be nice to see Michelle jump in here. Step up! Like your commentors! Just…donate Navy, will yah? Team kinda needs the help…
Ummm…
Dude?
She’s got $50 per blog on the table.
