Despite the regrettable post-Sadam loss of life, the Iraq war has been one of the most casualty efficient wars in history, certainly for one of this duration.

I am personally of the opinion that the longer there is a good news blackout by the MSM the better. The new media is getting the story out and while it only reaches a fairly small segment now, that segment then goes out and tells the story to the rest.

The most important thing is that at some point the good news won't be ignored. After all, if the violence continues on a downward trajectory we will be close to single digit deaths of coalition soldiers per month in Iraq by the time Petraeus speaks to Congress in March.

That won't have a media blackout and Petraeus, unlike the media, will tell the whole story, and by then the whole story will be that not of minimal success, but of tremendous success. That won't be ignored and the numbers will speak for themselves. Then, we will have up to seven months for the real story to get out.

Meanwhile all those that will continue the narrative that we're losing will be flat footed. I wish Hillary luck convincing all we are losing when our death toll monthly is single digits. This will set things up for Iraq being a huge positive for Republicans come November 2008.

"And when the troops DO start comming back and this whole thing is over these anti-war peace/soldier/Iraqi loving groups will morph into service groups dedicated to making sure that servicemen and their families get the pay and resources that they deserve, that disabled vets get the care they need and that Iraqis displaced by the war get adequate funding to rebuild their lives, that Iraqi orphans get a good home in the U.S. and stuff like that"

Um, isn't that the responsibility of the government? Y'know, the one that is denying PST treatment to our vets right now? I sort of think maybe that if we send our guys over to fight a war, and they give it their all, the U.S. owes them treatment when they get home. Service groups are great, and I donate to one, but the stuff you describe has to come from the U.S. government.

Ain't nothing socialist about that.

One of the digital satellite channels is broadcasting "the Wizard of Oz" tonight... and I have a hard time not envisioning Nancy Pelosi being splashed with the "Peace in Iraq" news while shouting "Nooo, nooooooooo!" and evaporating into a dusty pile of botox.

Of course the same dream could be repeated with Shillary too... Wicked Witch of the East!

Great news. We may have finally killed off all the Iraqis with enough spunk to fight for their country.

Negative Ghostrider. The Iraqi citizens with enough spunk to fight for their country are busy serving in the Iraqi Army, with the Iraqi Security Forces, the Iraqi Police. They're serving as interpreters for the PRTs working to rebuild the country. All of this, in the face of threats of death and bodily harm from the jihadis.

That, sir, is spunk.

In the same period I am sure there were at least a half dozen gang land killings in Philadelphia alone. If the press had the same drum beat on gangs as they have on Iraq we would have abandoned our cities long ago.

Given the high casualty rate among the Iragi military and police forces, the suggestion that they lack "spunk" is puzzling, to say they least.
