GWU student journalist admits hate crime hoax
Looks like GWU student reporter Sarah Marshak, would fit right in at ABC News, The New Republic, CBS, the NYTimes, etc., etc., etc. She was caught on tape faking anti-Semitic hate against herself:
After evaluating evidence from a hidden camera positioned in response to the swastika postings in Mitchell Hall, University Police have linked the student who filed the complaints to several of the incidents.
Following a final interview with investigators today, the student admitted responsibility for those incidents.
The individual will now face student judicial action and a determination will be made as to whether District of Columbia and/or federal laws were violated. No other suspects in the Mitchell Hall incidents were identified at any point through use of the hidden camera, interviews, or increased patrols of the residence hall.

Marshak tried to mount a “fake, but justified” defense. Via the GW Hatchet:
In an interview with The Hatchet Monday evening, Marshak, said she only drew the final three of six swastikas on her door in an attempt to highlight what she characterized as GW’s inaction. Only hours earlier, Marshak categorically denied the charges.
“I wasn’t looking to create this, sort of, insanity,” Marshak said in a phone interview. “I wasn’t looking to become a media darling. I was just looking for acknowledgment from University that someone drew a swastika on the door.”
Marshak said Tara W. Pereira, director of SJS, informed her she would likely be expelled. Marshak said she did not want to leave GW but probably will.
Tracy Schario, a University spokesperson, said GW stands by its statement that they have a signed confession from Marshak. Schario would not comment on how many swastikas Marshak was responsible for, only saying it was “several of the incidents.”

Sunday, another GW student was arrested in connection with the writing of racial epithets, and drawing of swastikas on doors in New Hall. The student has since been barred from campus and will also go through GW’s judicial system.

Another Gomer Pyle moment … surprise, surprise, surprise … I am not however that surprised that this turned out to be a fake story … that seems to be the pattern lately … manufactured for the media has become the norm it seems … thank God for Michelle and others that keep the heat on these loons by finding the truth …
She’s a hero for bringing hate awareness to the unwashed masses! Or she’s just another liberal fake, I’m not sure yet.
Mark Styne was talking to H.H. last week on the radio. Hugh asked Mark why he got into journalism. He said,”I don’t understand these kids going to college to go into journalism to “change the world for the good.” “When we started out in London we got into journalism because our lives had just fallen apart and we needed to just make some money.” Hugh laughed his head off.
Point is these kids come out of the colleges with high liberal ideals and then they run smack into the truth. So they have to make stories fit their agenda.

When my wife came in and told me she heard about it this evening, I wasn’t surprised at all…and that’s really sad. These people do not realize the impact of these hoaxes, sorry, “statements.” After so many fakes, the mindset of the public becomes numb to this sort of thing, and will start to automatically think of the hoaxes anytime anything happens.
What if the first swatstika was actually done by some racist a-hole? Now, he’s sitting somewhere laughing to himself, probably feeling emboldened, while this girl, who from all accounts was probably otherwise pretty smart, is now done with her time at GWU because she decided to make a really stupid decision, sorry, “statement.”
She deserves what she’s getting by all means, but I just can’t stop shaking my head at how low the discourse has gone at places that are supposed to be bastions of intelligence. It just seems like no one is ever taught how to clearly think things through anymore.
The problem with going into journalism to “change the world” is you don’t report the facts, you report truths.

Well,this is clearly yet another manifestation of BDS…and with these little lefty twerps it’s usually a result of their ‘by any means necessary’ mind set…my guess is that the Columbia noose incident was phony,too,or we would have heard otherwise by now.
That’s what I would like to know. I’ve long suspected that this was another example of manufactured hate. I say “suspected” because I have no evidence, other than a pattern of this behavior from leftists of late.
And you know what’s funny? Conservatives came out strongly against the fake FEMA press conference… but does the left ever come out against the fake stories their MSM puts out, or the manufactured controversies created by their own friends who leave their fingerprints and get caught?
what is the point? To ‘raise awareness’? Thank you for pointing out racism and bigotry exist, I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

They have to prosecute this woman. She wasted government time and resources. She also makes it difficult for the victims of real acts of ethnic/racial intimidation to receive credibility in the future. An example needs to be made of her, and she should be prosecuted.

However, this is hardly a tale of the media making up a story. Yea she wrote for the student newspaper, but how many freshmen start out writing for a student newspaper only to quit by Christmas? Also, what section did she write for… news or something like arts? And she’s a freshman for crying out loud… hardly someone with sway at a campus newspaper.

This is my first post at this great forum. Having been a long time lurker, I am aware of the issues regarding student email addresses (even when posted on publicly distributed fliers). If one runs a search for her name and party affiliation, you will find that she maintains a webpage for the “George Washington College [sic] Democrats.” That public political organization now has a member who involved the FBI in a made-up crime meant to discredit her political opposition. In addition to keeping an eye on GWU’s discipline of this lady, the “George Washington College [sic] Democrats” should also be asked to comment about allegations of one of their member’s criminal activities. I am not advocating contacting her personally, as she is really irrelevant to this matter now. She has admitted a federal offense. What will the University do and what will its authorized groups do in light of the continuing “fake hate” problems at GWU. (Thanks for letting me on this site. It serves as a great anti-dote for fishwrap coverage. I promise to be good. Well, mostly.)

The entire system of higher education in America is, I believe, beyond redemption.
Gramsci, from the grave, has won this round. The Communists are using the educational system to “grow” new communists.
University of Delaware, GWU, Columbia, and UC-Berkeley are all examples. Far left (Communist) administrators and faculty, far left ‘organizations’ rule and intimidate the rest, in a system that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn would recognize and know very well: Academic Gulags.
Nonsense subjects are taught (”Women’s studies,” “Black studies”) and I even saw a person get a doctorate for a thesis that focused upon gay latinos.
Short of a purge of most universities, there is no way, I believe, to reverse it. The rot is too deep.
It is time to cut our losses and tear the entire system down and rebuild it.
Fire the administrators. Fire the faculty. Dismiss the students. And shutter the campuses.
I say let’s bring in Ross Perot to run our education system. He could start out by having psychological evaluations done on all university presidents and professors to weed out those who exist mainly to indoctrinate students instead of actually teaching them the course materials. Then he could get rid of all non-essential (foo-foo) courses that serve no practical purpose. Or, we could bring in Mr. T to do the same thing….I pity the fool!
When facts do not support liberal’s mindless ideas, they create them in an attempt to fool some as well as themselves. I truly feel sorry for these people. I just wish they would leave the rest of us alone to enjoy our freedom and pursuit of happiness absent their controlling ideas.

One has to wonder why such little outrage? The number of so-called hate crimes seem to be on the rise.

When some of these idiots spend a few months in jail, then the rest of them will think twice. However, you can bet, that this woman will be let off because she is obviously mentally deranged.
Kerri Dunn strikes again.
This shows that she achieved her objective. Strange also that there were no arrests about the racist notes that plagued UVA in 2005 and that there never is for any of the noose or graffiti incidents.
It seems as if there is very little if any racism in America by conservatives but a whole lot by liberals. I don’t think a single conservative “racist” has ever been arrested in these incidents on the campuses. It is simple: There aren’t any.
The GWU student journalist learned early on that if you want to change the world, you must change the facts first. Now she has learned the second big lesson of journalism: Don’t get caught. Like Dan Rather and Mary Mapes. At the very least you should have plausible deniability.
Some time ago I realized that whenever there’s a “hate crime” that gets plastered all over the dinosaur media that it’s all a fake designed to draw attention to something that isn’t there. Thank you, Sarah Marshak, for proving me right.
Of course, there are no real “hate crimes”. It’s like “speech crime” or “thought crime”.

If it turned out that someone other than a person of Jewish faith did this, the left would be advocating for an aggressive prosecution for hate crimes. Will the Anti-Defamation League call for her to be prosecuted, as they did when the swastikas first appeared, or will they now just say thank you to her for “bringing awareness to this issue”.
This girl did not do this only to herself. By painting those swastikas on the doors, she created “an environment of fear and intimidation”. How do you think other young Jewish men and women at GWU felt while this was going on? If you are going to punish hate crimes, this certainly is one.
Is a crime, ANY CRIME, more or less serious based on who commits it? I thought we had “equal protection under the law?” She needs to be kicked out of school, at a very minimum.
I cannot honestly remember the last time one of these “symbolic crimes” was genuine. And now it’s a Jewish woman drawing swastikas! That’s like an African-American drawing KKK symbols! Hate is wrong but faking it for hidden-agendas is much worse. If a white person did this, they’d be guilty of a hate-crime. Should the same apply here?
Say it ain’t so. How else are the moonbats gong to whip up a frenzy over “rascism”, “intolerance”, “diversity”, etc. if they don’t stage a few “hate crimes”?

If it is not, then I don’t see how the Supreme Court could uphold hate crime legislation as being Constitutional.
What is the difference between a hoaxer and someone sincere? They both committed the same act. How would the courts decide? If a white guy puts a noose around a black professor’s door handle, he could just claim he was a Marxist protesting white racism and trying to manufacture outrage against something he is against. Ditto for the black professor who puts a noose around her office door to make a political statement (much more likely scenario).
If they let Sarah Marshak off, anyone can now commit “hate crimes” and claim they are hoaxes–that they didn’t really intend the “hate”–they just wanted to make a statement against it.
The problem is they’ve accepted as fact that racism and hate is rampant in America and when they fail to encounter it they loose their sense of self-worth. So to regain it they have to manufacture an incident to establish their bona-fides as a repressed minority.
