Manufacturing the news: ABC News hires actors to engage in homosexual PDA, provoke reaction
When you don’t feel like covering the news, you manfacture it. Remember the story I broke last spring about NBC News engineering a sting at NASCAR to try and expose fans as anti-Muslim bigots? Well, it looks like the dinosaur networks haven’t learned from the embarrassing backlash to that pathetic episode. Or Rathergate. Or Shattered Glass. Or Janet Cooke. Or Scott Thomas Beauchamp. Etc. etc. etc.
Now, according to the local Fox affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama, it looks like ABC News is engaging in media stage management and Theater of Journalism to expose anti-homosexual bigotry in the South:
ABC is doing a social experiment in Birmingham that includes having same-sex couples show affection for each other in public, according to Birmingham police department sources.
FOX6 first learned about this story from a Southside merchant who pointed out an RV parked at the corner of 20th Street and 11th Avenue South. The merchant said ABC was working on a week-long project to see how people would react to things like public displays of affection by gay and lesbian couples. A FOX6 news reporter approached the RV and talked with an “actor” who said, “Yes, we are working for ABC News.”
The “experiment” is apparently for ABC’s Primetime Live program, which is running a series of undercover stings titled “What Would You Do?”

“What Would You Do?” - Wasn’t that the name of a Nickelodeon show back in the early 90s? I wonder if ABC will be throwing pies in the faces of people who fail their “bigotry tests.”
This is nothing new and I bet a lot of ABC stories are like this on social issues. It is just they are finally starting to get caught doing it.
They were just trying to get the news filmed before their writers went on strike. I guess we won’t have any news until it over.
Why don’t they hire a reporter to report what happens when a non-leftists tries to deliver a talk at just about any college?

Just when you thought the MSM could not sink any lower. Nothing like fabricating the news to meet your agenda. I do like the idea of wearing anything pro-American, pro-Military, or pro-Life in front of the tolerant left. Of course the volunteer better have body guards to protect them from the tolerance shown by hate filled, vile, and violent liberals.

As someone who lives in the Birmingham metro area, one of the things that struck me about this situation is the lack of a clue on the part of the “news” organization. Southside is the area of the city where young “hip” and “artistic” people hang out; young professionals who pride themselves on their tolerance and gay couples reside in the area. Public displays of affection between gays can be seen daily. As far as I know, no reports assaults due to the victims being gay have been reported. However, Birmingham is seeing plenty of murders arising from drug related violence.
Does anyone still watch Primetime Live?
…and I offer to join the above volunteers. For the past year I drove around the country in an RV that had a huge American flag plastered on the side. I never got around to it, but I thought it’d be interesting to park it somewhere like Berkeley and see how long it’d take before the nuts couldn’t stand it anymore and commenced defacement.
This is no different than a newspaper commissioning a poll or survey. It is simply a lame attempt to manufacture news because they are too lazy to actually go out and cover real events.
How about Dressing up their reporters in a US military Uniforms and sending them into a democratic debate carrying “Bush was right” placards ?
Or alternately sending a female reporter onto the veiw and having them stand up to the liberals on there by asking “I was there on 911 and I know it was Islamic terrorists that did thie horrible attack”

There’s a 1rst time for everything, so I gotta say I agree with you on this one. They should start doing segments to show extreme left wing, or so called liberal intolerance as well. There seems to be an agenda here to hope to portray southerners as intolerant, anti-gay rednecks. This kind of stuff in tired,offensive and unenlightening. Either they should do a multifaceted program of different types of intolerance across the board, or scrap this whole idea. The approach here is not very fresh.

This network dispatched undercover reporters disguised as doctors and female patients. They went to the headquarters of 15 of the largest corporations in the U.S. and simulated late-term abortions in the lobbies of corporate headquarters.
Without exception, they were forced to leave in the middle of the procedure; in most cases, security was called to forcibly evict a woman exercising her constitutional rights in a public place.

So that is why last week the Fox 6 affiliate in Birmingham had a quick-poll asking if you were OK with public displays of affection by gay and lesbian couples. The results at the time I saw the poll (if I recall correctly) was 30% yes, 70% no.

What Would You Do? was later (I think I’m on the younger side of the readers here) and they pied people. It was a show with Marc Summers, the same guy who hosted Double Dare. Did they ask how many approved/disapproved of PDAs by heterosexual couples? I’ve known quite a few people who find those PDAs appalling. As JW2 pointed out above, it’s not exactly acceptable for any couple to engage in PDAs.

Good point JW2. I don’t want to see anyone making out in public~heterosexual or homosexual. It’s in bad taste no matter who you are. So, if I walked past the gay couple making out and rolled my eyes, how would ABC know that I wouldn’t do the same to a heterosexual couple making out? Unless they staged a hetero couple making out in the same area, they wouldn’t.

Interestingly it wasn’t even a week ago that I saw 2 gays making out downtown in the middle of the afternoon. Certainly not odd for Burlington, VT, but what was odd was that one of them was dressed wannabe “thug style”… Never seen that before.
Anyway, I saw this going on while I sat at a red light… I could tell that the college chicks in the car behind me saw too… my window was down just a crack, but I heard someone yell something out and in the rear view and at the guys who apparently “caught” the girls looking. The reaction of the gays to the stares of the girls? To yell “s**k a d**k!” at them (while still holding each other with big grins on their faces) to make sure everyone would look at them.

It was Harlem…right on the main drag. I literally only saw 2-3 white people. Numerous fellow black people were disgusted and outright hostile. I’ve seen Tyra tackle this topic(it’s easier for her, she’s a sista), but I think the issue should be intertwined with what ABC is trying to do, along w/ other scenarios discussed above by conservative commentators, so that the issue of intolerance can be viewed from different perspectives.
Side note: Not everyone was nasty. We ate at a Soul Food restaurant, and the people in there were great. There was a great deal of hostility walking the street though.
This is precisely why I just don’t watch or listen to the news anymore. There are just too many instances of not being able to trust them.
I’m surprised that no one seems to have mentioned that this must be what the striking Hollywierd writers may do in the event of a prolonged walkout from their studios. Fiction and joke writers will always have a job in the “traditional” journalism world.

If they were really interested in gaining a realistic measure of people’s attitudes, they’d have to be a lot more scientific: do the same thing in multiple venues in different parts of the country, homosexual vs. heterosexual PDAs, interracial PDAs, etc.
PDAs are PDAs. A hetero couple engaged in something like a public and prolonged lip-lock/grope session is the same as if it were two homosexuals: it’s inconsiderate, immodest and distasteful.
The only difference would be, if I saw two homosexuals doing something like that I’d suspect that at some level mutual attraction wasn’t so much on their minds as making a point to the rest of us benighted hoi polloi in the name of those PC Holy Grails, “tolerance” and “celebrating diversity.”
Which is exactly what ABC seems interested in, oddly enough. Serendipity, baby!
If the media wants to make of a show of “gay pdas” and the public reaction, how could they have missed the Folsom “Art Fair”?

I think it’s more a good manners thing than a geographic thing, TXR. People who have a good upbringing aren’t self-centered enough to think the world revolves around them; that it should praise them and cater to their every whim. Unfortunately there are too many ill-mannered people who believe the complete opposite.

Wish I knew what the ‘public displays of affection’ consisted of. Making out in public is disgusting, whether you’re straight or gay. Whatever happened to self respect and having enough respect for others to behave decently in public?
Well, naturally, what they want to do is expose anti-homosexual bigotry in the South. Along with anti-Muslim bigotry in the South (which if I recall correctly they didn’t find). Along with recommendations for getting vaccinated for trips to the South as if you were going to a 3rd world country. Along with portrayals in movies and on TV of Southerners as people who are either tooth-missing religious fanatics or knuckle-dragging heathens with really strange accents. Do they not know anyone from the South? If so, do they think those folks are Southern oddities, with the rest of us as described above? Why in the name of Jiminy Christmas do they think we are such awful people?
If the GOP were smart, they’d play this up bigtime. Nothing gets people in red states madder than the coastal people looking down on them.
Remember the saying…”News doesn’t happen; it’s made”. The three major networks will do anything to boost their fledging ratings. Combined, ABC, NBC, and CBS have nightly average viewership of around 15 million. Seems paltry to me. Personally, I don’t waste my time with network news and their slanted coverage. I rely on real news sources for my information and opinions, this site being one of them.
I think there may be a reluctance since the media would much more likely frame & spin a critique of ABC News’s actions as “homophobia”.
But in the context of a comprehensive review of the media’s overall disdain for “dirty, bigoted locals” (disease-ridden white male NASCAR fans), I agree it has “legs”.

We were approaching Times Square from a side street and holding hands, when she warned me to look out for the reactions from a group of 20 black teenagers in front of a restaurant nearby. This reminds me of my grad school graduation from RPI in 2005. Hillary was the commencement speaker (unfortunately). There was a heckler in the crowd behind me. Because of this, I heard exactly what he said.
The next day, the paper reported that the guy said, “It’s your war, Hillary!”.
Well, that’s not what he said.
What he said was, “You’re a …”, well, let’s just say it starts with w and rhymes with war.
Reporting the news to fit their agenda.
Does anyone with any sense watch ABC anymore?
If there is so few newsworthy things going on that ABC News has to start manufacturing stories then maybe ABC should rethink their need for a news department.

My worry here is that if no one says anything about this then the perverted PDA will be described as “acceptable” and that will give young impressionable minds the idea that this kind of behavior is “normal”.
Either way it’s a lose/lose for moral values.
This is just more proof that the “After the Ball” masterminds of the propagandist homosexual agenda, (namely, Kirk and Madsen) are relentlessly being carried out by the media.
Kirk and Madsen’s techniques of “desensitization,” “jamming,” and “conversion” are still in full swing against straight America.

The MSM creating fake news to boost ratings?Maybe the fake news they create is what has killed there ratings.I,for one stopped watching all those so-called on air news magazine shows years ago simply for that reason.While I suppose they occasionally do cover some actual news,it isn’t worth my time to sit through all the b.s to get to it.Similarly,I don’t even watch FOX much anymore because they spend so much time on inanities ,instead of reporting the real news.With all that can (and does) happen in the world why would a news service have to invent such nonsense? Probably easier and cheaper than sending real reporters out to cover real stories.

I’m from Alabama myself, and I don’t care to see people kissing in public, regardless of who it is. People would have a reaction to 80 year olds making out in public too, but I don’t think that would constitute ageism.
As I’m trying to teach my six year old daughter - there’s a time and a place for everything. I enjoy kissing my wife and showing her affection, but I don’t do it outside “an RV parked at the corner of 20th Street and 11th Avenue South”.
