In the past Iraq’s death toll would be hailed as a victory in it’s self. Hence why we would not win a convential World War again. Even if we are attacked first, recall that forces in DC want us out of Afghanistan. Even in WW2 there was talk before the atomic bombing of peace talks with Japan given the growing unpopularity at home.
