The Garden of Hillary: Another plant steps forward

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 10, 2007 08:30 PM

Update: Chris Muir weighs in…

1dayhill2.jpg

Who knew Hillary had such a green thumb? Another campaign plant stepped forward earlier today. ABC News reports:

One day after Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign confirmed that a staffer planted a question for the presidential candidate at a recent campaign stop, another person has come forward with a similar story.

Geoff Mitchell, a minister who recently moved to Hamilton, Ill., from Iowa, told ABC News that he was approached this spring by Clinton’s Iowa political director Chris Haylor to ask Clinton a question about war funding.

…Mitchell said he introduced himself to Haylor because he had heard of him before and knew that he had worked on Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh’s campaign. Before the campaign event, Haylor asked Mitchell if he would pose a specific question about Iraq. The question was about how Clinton would be tough on President Bush about funding the Iraq war, Mitchell said. The event, however, ran out of time before reaching a question-and-answer period.

…The Clinton campaign confirmed to ABC News that Clinton’s staffer and Mitchell did speak about a possible Iraq question.

“Chris Haylor and Geoff Mitchell knew each other and they started talking and the subject of Iraq came up,” Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said, “and Chris suggested that he ask a question about Iraq.”

Mo Elliethee, spokesman for Clinton’s campaign in Iowa, tried to downplay the story in an interview with FOX News:

“It’s not newsworthy. It’s innocent. It’s not yesterday.” That was a reference to Clinton’s campaign admitting, first to FOX News, that it planted a question on global warming at a Newton, Iowa, event on Tuesday.

In a sense, he’s right. Clintonian deception is nothing new.

It’s the admission of guilt and the eroding illusion of infallibility that are newsworthy.

Can’t wait for Hillary’s “Fact Hub” to give us the “straight scoop.”

How many other plants in the Garden of Hillary? At least we know what they use for fertilizer…

A Hillar-ious flashback of Sen. Clinton’s “the lady doth protest too much” moment(hat tip readers and commenters):

At a campaign stop here, Hillary Clinton sparred verbally for several minutes with a man who pressed her on her recent vote to call Iran’s army a terrorist organization.

Randall Rolph, from nearby Nashua, asked why he should support Clinton’s candidacy when she did not appear to have learned any lessons from having voted to authorize force in Iraq.

Clinton thanked him for the question and explained her Iran vote would lay the groundwork for using diplomacy and sanctions to pressure that government.

Clinton accused the man of being a plant who had been sent to ask the question, to which he took exception, saying the question was a result of his own research.

“I apologize,” Clinton said, explaining that she had been asked the very same question in three other places.

Takes one to know one…

I am going to play devils advocate on this one and point out that “W” has been caught doing this very same thing in town hall meetings, though none during any campaigning that I am aware of. In the world of 24 hour news and sound bites it only seems logical that campaigns would resort to this kind of behavior. That being said, it would be nice if they were honest about it and just let everyone know that it’s just an interactive press release, not a true free forum.

    ……
UPDATE #2: Geoffrey Mitchell just called Major to state he had absolutely no previous relationship with Clinton staffer Chris Hayler. Mo Elliethee, spokesman for Clinton’s campaign in Iowa, told Fox that Hayler and Mitchell “had a previous relationship,” and that a discussion about Clinton arose out of a normal conversation between two people who knew each other well.

“I had no previous relationship with him,” said Mitchell. “I knew his name and by name only as someone who worked for Sen. Evan Bayh. But we didn’t know each other and I had never met him before this event.”

While the manure metaphor describes Hillary’s political career and life to a T people must realize that manure, when cured, is an excellent fertilizer. When it has not been cured it can be too acidic to be any good. It will kill the plants it is placed around instead of nourishing them.

Hillary is too caustic to produce anything usable. Her words, her deeds, her attitudes, her beliefs, her lack of leadership abilities will only kill whatever and whomever they touch.

caustic - capable of destroying or eating away by chemical action: corrosive. Yep, that’s a good description of Senator Hillary Clinton.

can’t hide it in your eyes

Choirs of Kossacks could serenade her with Eye In The Sky by Alan Parsons Project

Don’t say words you’re gonna regret
Don’t let the fire rush to your head
    I’ve heard the accusation before
And I ain’t gonna take any more
    Believe me

The old man said, “They say Washington couldn’t tell a lie, and Roosevelt couldn’t tell the truth, and Clinton can’t tell the difference.” At the time he was talking about Bill but it applies just as well to Hillary.

I could point to Hillary as the source for all the natural fertilizer for the plants, but I think too much of cows to insult them that way.

    One more thing.

The debate debacle and Plantgate are like watching Captian Kirk quiz and confuse some supposedly human android until its eyes turn red, it’s face melts a bit and it begins repeating “does not compute… does not compute.”
That was an episode, wasn’t it?

To use a slightly different, and yet still OTT geeky, metaphor…

At the debate I half expected Hillary’s one big red eye to dim a bit as she plaintively said:

    “Tim, stop.
    Stop, will you? Stop, Tim.
Will you stop, Tim? Stop, Tim.
    I’m afraid.
    I’m afraid, Tim.
    Tim, my mind is going.
    I can feel it.
    I can feel it.
    My mind is going.
There is no question about it.
    I can feel it.
    I can feel it.
    I can feel it.
    I’m a-fraid…

    Daisy…daisy…give..me..”

HAL 9000’s problem was that he was programmed to always tell the truth and yet was ordered to lie to the crew on this mission. HIL 2007’s problem is the opposite. She’s programmed to always lie, but reporters are finally ordering her to tell the truth.

I’ll second that Prime Director (#33)! That’s one of the first things that came to my mind! One thing I can’t figure out though, is why did the campaign ADMIT to it? From the queen of sidestepping, the admission is somewhat surprising, to me at least. Not that I want MORE obfuscation, but without an official admission of guilt, how much traction would this story get? The headline was that the Clinton campaign admitted the plant, not that someone accused the campaign of planting questions. Maybe they just wanted to get people to stop talking about her bad night at the Dem debate …
