Hey, how many other illegal aliens are working in the Bush administration?
The document of the day is a press release from the Justice Department announcing, “Former Employee of CIA and FBI Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy, Unauthorized Computer Access and Naturalization Fraud.” A Lebanese illegal alien was working for the Bush FBI and CIA, got into our computer systems, got access to info about her Lebanese relatives and the terrorist group Hezbollah, arranged a sham marriage (where have we seen that before), and nosed around in bribery and extortion conspiracy probes. Debbie Schlussel, Jihad Watch, and Allah have full coverage of Nada Nadim Prouty’s guilty plea and the appalling security lapses involved.
Debbie Schlussel points out: “The FBI and U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy (and before him, U.S. Attorneys Craig Morford and Jeffrey Collins) knew Prouty was a spy for Hezbollah back in 2003, but they allowed her to work for the FBI and CIA for over FOUR Years! They did not remove her from the job until the end of this past September–1.5 years after her brother-in-law was indicted for financing Hezbollah!!!!!!”
And Robert Spencer notes, “This story has everything: an illegal immigration angle, a Keystone Kops angle, an espionage angle, a moderate-Muslims-condemn-terror-or-do-they angle, and more. It would make a great movie. If this kind of thing doesn’t kill us first.”
The Bush administration’s cavalier attitude toward illegal aliens in its employ should be no surprise, of course. The Pentagon has allowed known illegal alien fraudsters to remain in the military as a matter of policy. And remember the illegal alien working in the White House who got his picture taken with the Cheneys?
When I broke that story in 2003, I ended my piece with this question for President Bush:
[I]f his own guardians can’t keep low-level, illegal border-crossing impostors out of the White House backyard, how in the world can we count on his administration to keep far more sophisticated, illegal alien evildoers…out of ours?
Answer: We can’t.
How many other illegal aliens and jihadi sympathizers are working in sensitive positions in the shamnesty-promoting Bush administration?
Could the crony-riddled DHS even tell us if they tried?
Michael Cutler underscores a point I’ve also made repeatedly in reporting on the illegal immigration-national security nexus:
United States citizenship opens all sorts of doors to those who do not wish to share the “American Dream” but rather create a nightmare for our nation and our citizens. United States citizenship enables the alien who acquires United States citizenship to be able to work at any job he or she is qualified to do. It enables the person in question to be given security clearances that provide access to highly sensitive intelligence and enables such individuals to embed themselves in our nation and hide in plain sight among us…This is why it is patently absurd to think that as the President and other open borders advocates have continually said that if we allowed those aliens into our country who simply want to work and do the jobs “Americans won’t do,” we will be safer because then law enforcement and the intelligence community can focus on the terrorists who seek to enter our country to do us harm. Here is a startling clear example of a terrorist who apparently wanted to do nothing more serious than get a job. She was facilitated in her quest to embed herself in our country by a division of DHS, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in providing her with United States citizenship even though she had committed naturalization fraud.
And before you tell me I’m being too hard on the White House, can you imagine what your blood pressure level would be if this happened under the Clinton administration?

Nada Nadim Prouty, a 37-year-old Lebanese national and resident of Vienna, Va., pleaded guilty today in the Eastern District of Michigan to charges of fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship, which she later used to gain employment at the FBI and CIA; accessing a federal computer system to unlawfully query information about her relatives and the terrorist organization Hizballah; and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
The announcement was made today by Stephen J. Murphy, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan; Kenneth L. Wainstein, Assistant Attorney General for National Security; Willie T. Hulon, Executive Assistant Director of the FBI’s National Security Branch; Brian M. Moskowitz, Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE); and Kurt Rice, Chicago Field Office Special Agent in Charge for the U.S. State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service.
At a hearing in Detroit before the U.S. District Court Judge Avern Cohn, Prouty entered a plea of guilty to counts one, two and three of a second superseding information. Count one of the information charges conspiracy, for which the maximum penalty is five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. Count two charges unauthorized computer access, for which the maximum penalty is one year imprisonment and a $100,000 fine. Count three charges naturalization fraud, for which the maximum penalty is 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine, and requires the court to de-naturalize the defendant.
“This case highlights the importance of conducting stringent and thorough background investigations,” said U.S. Attorney Stephen J. Murphy. “It’s hard to imagine a greater threat than the situation where a foreign national uses fraud to attain citizenship and then, based on that fraud insinuates herself into a sensitive position in the U.S. government. I applaud the excellent investigative work of the FBI, ICE and DHS, which led to the successful prosecution today.”
“It is a sad day when one of our public servants breaches our security and trust,” said Assistant Attorney General Kenneth L. Wainstein. “This defendant engaged in a pattern of deceit to secure U.S. citizenship, to gain employment in the intelligence community, and to obtain and exploit her access to sensitive counterterrorism intelligence. It is fitting that she now stands to lose both her citizenship and her liberty.”
“We became aware of this compromise in December 2005 and moved to address any further damage,”said Willie T. Hulon, Executive Assistant Director of the FBI’s National Security Branch. “The FBI worked closely with other agencies to investigate this matter. We continue to evaluate our security practices and will make any necessary changes.”
“Nada Proudy’s guilty plea should serve as a solemn warning to those who say they’ve pledged their allegiance to the United States and then make the conscious decision to place America’s interests at risk,” said Brian M. Moskowitz, Special Agent in Charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Detroit. “Becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen is an honor and a privilege. ICE will do everything in its power to see that those who achieve this honor by fraud and deception are brought to justice.”
Naturalization Fraud
According to documents filed in court by the government, Prouty first entered the United States from Lebanon on June 24, 1989, on a one-year, non-immigrant student visa. After her visa expired, she remained in the country, residing in Taylor, Mich., with her sister, Elfat El Aouar, and an individual named Samar Khalil Nabbouth. In order to remain in the United States and evade U.S. immigration laws, Prouty later offered money to an unemployed U.S. citizen to marry her. On August 9, 1990, Prouty married the U.S. citizen. As planned, Prouty never lived with her fraudulent “husband,” but continued to live with her sister and Nabbouth.
Prouty later submitted a series of false, fraudulent and forged documents and letters to federal immigration officials to verify the validity of the fraudulent marriage in order to obtain permanent residency status, and, later, U.S. citizenship, thereby committing naturalization fraud. On Aug. 5, 1994, the former Immigration and Naturalization Service granted Prouty U.S. citizenship under the name “Nada Nadim Deladurantaye.” The following year, she filed for a divorce from her fraudulent husband, and later obtained a U.S. passport, which she used to travel overseas.
Talal Khalil Chahine
According to court documents, from May 1992 through April 1993, and again, from August through November 1994, Prouty was employed as a waitress and hostess at La Shish Inc., a chain of Middle Eastern restaurants in Detroit that was owned by Talal Khalil Chahine. During this time, Chahine wrote a letter for submission into Prouty’s immigration file attesting to the validity of Prouty’s false marriage.
Chahine is currently a fugitive believed to be in Lebanon. He, along with Prouty’s sister, Elfat El Aouar, and others were charged in 2006 in the Eastern District of Michigan with tax evasion in connection with a scheme to conceal more than $20 million in cash received by La Shish restaurants and to route funds to persons in Lebanon. Last month, Chahine was also charged in the Eastern District of Michigan, along with a senior ICE official in Detroit and others in a bribery and extortion conspiracy in which federal immigration benefits were allegedly awarded to illegal aliens in exchange for money.
Employment at FBI and CIA
In April 1999, through a series of false representations and use of her fraudulently procured proof of U.S. citizenship, Prouty, then known as “Nada Nadim Alley,” obtained employment as a special agent of the FBI. It was a prerequisite to FBI employment that she be a U.S. citizen. As a special agent with the FBI, Prouty was granted a security clearance and assigned to the FBI’s Washington Field Office to work on an extraterritorial squad investigating crimes against U.S. persons overseas. During her tenure with the FBI, Prouty was not assigned to work on investigations involving the international terrorist group Hizballah.
In August 2000, Prouty’s sister, Elfat El Aouar, entered into a marriage with Talal Khalil Chahine, the owner of La Shish Inc. In September 2000, Prouty, while employed as an FBI special agent, used the FBI’s computerized Automated Case System (ACS), without authorization, to query her own name, her sister’s name, and that of her brother-in-law, Talal Khalil Chahine. In addition, on or about June 4, 2003, Prouty accessed the FBI’s ACS and obtained information from a national security investigation into Hizballah that was being conducted by the FBI’s Detroit Field Office.
According to court documents, in August 2002, Prouty’s sister, Elfat El Aouar, and her brother-in-law, Talal Khalil Chahine, attended a fundraising event in Lebanon where the keynote speakers were Chahine himself and Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah. Sheikh Fadlallah had previously been designated by the U.S. government as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist based upon his status as a leading ideological figure with Hizballah.
In June 2003, through a series of false representations and use of her fraudulently procured proof of U.S. citizenship, Prouty, then known as “Nada Nadim Prouty,” voluntarily left her position with the FBI and obtained employment with the CIA. It was also a prerequisite to CIA employment that she be a U.S. citizen.
On Nov. 6, 2007, Prouty resigned her position at the CIA. Pursuant to the terms of her plea agreement, she has agreed to fully and truthfully cooperate with the CIA on any matters the CIA deems necessary to transition Prouty out of its employment in a manner consistent with safeguarding the national security of the United States. This cooperation includes participation in debriefing and polygraph interviews.
The ongoing investigation into this matter is being conducted by the FBI and ICE, with assistance from the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service, and the Internal Revenue Service.
The case is being prosecuted by Eric M. Straus, Chief of the National Security Unit, and Kenneth R. Chadwell, Assistant U.S. Attorney, from the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Michigan, as well as Mark J. Jebson, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and Senior Assistant Chief Counsel for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Being a second generation American of Lebanese descent, I say deport her to Syria. The Christian country of Lebanon does not need any more terrorist sympathizers.

President Bush deserves to be bashed over this issue. He is pandering to the illegals and it’s hard to tell the difference between Repubs and Dems on this issue.

The press release says there was a “plea agreement”, but I don’t see any mention of how many years she agreed to.
Am I cynical to believe she will get a walk in exchange for her “cooperation”?
Gee, they used to do background checks on people before they gave them security clearances. Too much trouble, I suppose, trying to interview all those family ties back in the old country. Good enough to just do a records check and send them on to the CIA (where they can’t do much harm anyway - nobody there knows anything). Seriously, though, if they knew she was a mole, they (hopefully) may have controlled what she had actual access to, rather than pick her up, in order to locate and ID her contacts.
I know people who have gone to work in similar positions, and the background check they run is exaustive. I mean, they track down everybody you have ever known and ask them about you. If you stole an apple from the neighbors apple tree when you were twelve, they’ll find out about it.
There must be some sort of special arrangment for people of non-American ancestry.
Could be. They’re always desperate for native linguists.
I got denied my clearance because:
1) They could not determine my whereabouts for a three month sabbatical I took in the mountains of Wyoming and
2) They could not find one former employer plainly listed in the phone book? (But no trouble locating an employer to verify my employment after he stole from the company and left us bankrupt and has been wanted on federal charges ever since?)
One can only hope that they were using her to pass on false intel to the people over “there” but how come I so seriously doubt that?
From the moment Bush assumed the Presidency, I worried that he would be nothing more than Clinton-with-his-pants on. Claiming no psychic powers, I think the fear has been realized. Of course, there are differences in psychology: Bush seems to be some kind of glad-handing doofus, eager to show the world and the democrats what a nice, swell guy he is so we can all join hands in social progress. But the world really doesn’t work that way. Hello America: the world is about power — use it or lose it.
Conservatives have to watch Bush every minute, lest he have another Harriet Myers, turn-port-security-over-to-Dubai, no-child-left-behind, make-Mexico-our-next-state, I-looked-into-Putin’s-soul-and-saw-a-good-man moment. He’s the Republican’s answer to Carter, whom he will be joining on the peace road as soon as he leaves office.
Which is worse for America? Nice guys who never learn, or the monsters of the earth? It’s a close call that I will leave others to make.

Bush has sold us out, as has Chertoff and the entire ICE. Bush has given up on America. He wants us to absorb all of Latin America because it makes him feel better. He says Islam is a ROP because he wants it to be. He is delusional. He must have his hand tied by Congress. His State Department and Homeland Security (what a strange name that is) actively seek to turn America into a social experiment of undetermined consequence. This must be his legacy grab.
This is a prime example of malfeasance and derilection of duty by the investigative services that did the background checks.
Anyone that has ever had a security clearance knows the massive amount of detailed personal history forms that comprise the application.
They also know that every neighbor, school official, employer, personal reference, financial institution, credit bureau, and law enforcement at every level is contacted for every single place you have ever hung your hat.
If you are married they do every one of those same checks on your spouse as well as their family.
So … with that information … how in the H did this woman ever get a security clearance of any type?
Someone needs to be fired over this person being granted clearance, let alone being hired by the agencies that are pointed out in the article.
Why wasn’t she charged with ESPIONAGE? This has all the factors for an espionage case. The other charges conveniently dance around that issue.
What did she do with the information she obtained? Who did she help?
She was the sister in law of a someone indicted on terrorism related charges? And the best they can do is immigration fraud and unauthorized computer access?
Sounds like someone is trying to sweep this one under the table very quickly.
Oh, and that plea deal she agreed to? If this is her first offense, she may not get any jail time at all. If she does, it will likely be less than one year.
I thought we were at war with terrorists? Or hasn’t the US Attorney in Michigan read that memo yet?
This is an absolute disgrace. From allowing her to remain employed for over 3 years after they knew what was going on to agreeing to a plea deal that will probably have her serving less time than Paris Hilton did for a DUI charge. Unbelievable.
If anyone in the Bush Administration cares about the confidence of the American people in its ability to protect them from terror, they will immediately halt this mockery of justice, jail the offender on charges of espionage and treason, conduct a complete investigation, and prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law.
This woman was spying for someone. It is a critical national security issue to pursue this and not sweep it under the rug with a plea deal.

The idea that this government still believes that Islam is the official ROP is so silly that only a man who has never read a book cover to cover could believe it. That would be the entire Bush Administration as well as Congress. (I mean does anyone here even believe Pelosi could read an average book?) Does Reid even read? Politicians don’t read. They have staffers to do that. The staffer then gives the politician a “brief”. I’m really starting to wonder about the staffers who brief the staffer who briefs the assistant who briefs the political appointee who briefs the elected official.
Information flow is sooooooo tortuous in the federal bureaucracy it is amazing that any decision makers ever have a fraction of the data they need.
Gee, much to comment on. Rather than address each individually, let simply clear up a few misconceptions.
She was originally hired by the FBI prior to The President taking office. Yes, during the Clinton administration.
Why is this important? Because that is the period where the federal governement was handed over to ‘contractors’ and lawyers.
A contractor did the background check. People like myself use to do them, the administration decided contractors would be cheaper and do a better job.
The background check for a secret clearance is updated every 10 years. For top secret and above the checks are down at closer intervals. She would not be required to complete a new background upon transferring from one agency to another. Thank you Al Gore.
The damage done to the FBI, and more importantly, the CIA was done during the Clinton years. If you were a liberal during this period you prospered, conservative you didn’t. Liberals floated to the top.
The hiring practices were changed to incorporate ‘targets’ for minorities and women. Basically, considering how few female Lebanese we had working for the fed, there was no way they could not have hired her. This is not racist, or sexist, I am far from being either, it is a simple fact.
So, who do you blame? The same people who have destroyed our education system, chased religion from the public square, cause us frisk nuns in wheelchairs at the airport and refuse to face the fact that ‘radical islam’ has declared war on us.
This is a train wreck that will repeat itself time and time again. Liberals are in control of our inteligence community. Thankfully, many of them will be retiring soon. Hopefully, we do not repeat past mistakes. However, my gut feeling is, we never learn.

During the Hoover days you never heard about a spy in the FBI. Not saying they didn’t have them, just that Hoover knew how to deal with them, quietly.
She acts like a spy. She does what a spy does. Yet she’s being treated like a common crook, though worse than an illegal alien from South America.

Our security systems are broken and self-congratulatory press releases from DOJ are not adequate in answering all the questions reasonable people might trip across when considering this incident, and the stultifying “ongoing investigation” is insufficient as a reason to stop public inquiry into this matter. This shite is tired.

When I think of all the background information I had to provide for my Top Secret security clearance when I was active duty and the days it took me to get all the pertinent information to start the background check and the months of waiting before I could finally get cleared I am amazed at this report. I first saw it this morning on Fox and it got the blood boiling right out of the gate.
I have limited experience working with FBI and CIA when working arms control treaties in the 90s and neither organization impressed me very much (at least the individuals I worked with). I realize the Clinton Administration did a lot to defang the FBI and CIA (Carter also gutted them good), but to not clean house when taking over from this corrupt and morally bankrupt group implanted in these organizations was irresponsible by the Bush Administration. The country continues to pay a huge price due to the inept policy of letting the Clintonestas continue to rule these organizations vital to our nation’s security.
According to UPI, the plea agreement stipulates she will get LESS THAN A YEAR IN PRISON, and be stripped of her citizenship but will NOT BE DEPORTED. WTF??? Why isn’t she being put on the first non-stop to Lebanon. She is an illegal immigrant, she commits fraud, she spies, and we can’t deport her?

Where is Geraldo Rivera today? Every time an illegal alien is charged with a crime, Geraldo says it has nothing to do with being “an undocumented worker”. Each time, Geraldo Rivera says that “undocumented workers” just want to do work Americans won’t do. Will today Geraldo stand up and concede that there is at least one woman who came to the US under false pretenses and by violating US immigration law and did so for the purpose of harming the national interest of the United States? Sadly, I suspect that Geraldo will have one of two things to say: 1) Bush is engaging in a war against all Muslims (CAIR may make that charge even before Geraldo does) and 2) “this is a war against people who look me” (Geraldo trots that one out about once a week).

Get this, she has a fall-back career now that spying is no longer possible: Nada Prouty of Vienna is listed as having recently been licensed as a CPA in Virginia. I am shocked and amazed at how these “people” can get into these sensitive job positions. My brother had to receive ANOTHER security clearance when he took a promotion and he’s been in the service over 20 darn years!!! I guess they bend over backwards for some people for fear of “offending”?
