Most of the Muslim problems in the Philippines come from the Southern Island areas (Mindanao and Basilan) where the major issues have been going on since the guerilla warfare began in 1969.

In reality, however, the Muslims have been evading Spanish and American colonialism for 300 years. It was the the policies of the post-1946, Christian-dominated Philippine state that led to the antagonism because of the wave of Christians coming from the Northern Islands to settle the majority Muslim southern Islands.

It is only the appearance of the militant group the Abu Sayyaf in 1995 that has caused more problems because of their well publicized kidnappings and beheadings of Christians. Both the MNLF and the MILF have condemned the activities of the Abu Sayyaf.

The Abu Sayyaf are by far the smallest of the three Muslim groups and the ones the U.S. armed forces have been invited to help the Philippine Army eradicate.

Anyway, retracing the military history of Filipinos and Americans has helped amplify the shared values and the reasons why I assimilated so well with our Filipino guests at these recent weddings.

Two close friends of mine have married Manila-born goddesses over the past two years. I had the pleasure of meeting scores of their relatives at the respective wedding celebrations. These new Filipino friends of ours are some of the most genuine, good hearted and loyal souls I have met outside of the good ol' US of A.

This war on Islamic Terror is not the first time good Americans and good Filipinos have stood together, fought together and spilled blood together. The stories of American military (including Filipino-Americans) and Filipino special forces vs. the Imperial Japanese war machine (from Melbourne to Bataan to Cabanatuan) are both extremely sorrowful and inspiring.

One of my favorite stories regards the Filipino special forces who demanded to be dropped in behind Japanese lines to gather the intel critical for a Luzon invasion. The average height and weight of a US infantryman back then was, something like 5'5", 150 lbs. The average specs for a Filipino fighter was considerably less. So, in order to parachute the Filipino special ops accurately, they had to be weighted down with an extra 50 lbs on their persons, otherwise, "they would be blown back to Australia!"

The story continues, that after they landed back on their soil, you did NOT want to be Japanese.

SouthernBoy, If you read the verses, Jesus said there would be Wars and rumors of wars, He didn't say there would ever be world peace until He comes back. I don't think the Methodists, Baptists, Lutherans, or any other Christian denomination blew up the House of Representatives there in Manila. I wonder who was responsible? And Dear boy tell me when your world peace is coming? I want to hear the date of that. Don't forget SouthernBoy next time it could be the U.S. Senate or House of Represenatives that gets bombed or one of your local shopping centers.

Outstanding point. I believe they have left. I guess these bastards didn't get the memo.

By the way, there is a picture I'm looking for, was the front cover of VOM (Voice of Martyrs) magazine that showed this 5 or 6 year old girl holding up a sign that said "STOP KILLING CHRISTIANS". Think she was Filipino or Indonesian, not for sure. But the picture stops you dead in your tracks. I'll link to it here one way or the other. I'll scan it if I have to. It's just one of the most stunning pictures I've ever seen.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

That may not even be a viable policy here. When you have a sect of people who actively target even members of their own sect for not believing exactly the same, it does not exactly inspire confidence. Terrorism only works if people are terrified. I have enough faith in the American people to believe that we would resist but we should choose our friends wisely. As for me personally, all comment spam will be ignored until our gracious hostess grows tired of the constant interruption and he will be forced to go back to his leftist base and cry to people who care about how they were not allowed to spam threads here and those mean old righties banned him. (Even though he will be directly responsible yet still blame others)
