“Talk to you later, Buckwheat!” Democrat blames Eddie Murphy

This is all your fault, Eddie.
What a quandary for the race-hustling mob. An insensitive slur surfaces in the South. But it comes out of the mouth of a female Democrat. Ignore or exploit? What to do, what to do…
Allah and many others yesterday blogged about the bizarro Democrat politician, Carla Dartez, from Louisiana who called the mother of a black civil rights leader “Buckwheat.” She’s blaming an Eddie Murphy movie for her racial gaffe:
Louisiana State Representative Carla Dartez is considering resigning after allegedly referring to the mother of an NAACP president as “Buckwheat,” a Houma newspaper reported Friday.
Jerome Boykin, President of Morgan City’s NAACP, told WAFB 9NEWS that Dartez was speaking by phone with his mother to thank his mother for her help with Dartez’s re-election bid. That help included volunteering to drive voters to the polls during the October 20th primary. Boykin says Dartez ended that conversation by telling his mother, “Talk to you later, Buckwheat.” Boykin says he considers that to be a racial slur.
Boykin, who supported Dartez’s re-election bid in October, says he has now informed Dartez he is no longer supporting her. “I will do everything in my power to see that she’s not re-elected,” Boykin told WAFB 9NEWS. Dartez, a Democrat, received 44% of the vote in October, and faces a November 17th runoff against Republican Joe Harrison, who received 36% of the primary vote.
Boykin says, after his mother told him about the conversation, he called Dartez and she acknowledged she had used the “Buckwheat” reference. He says Dartez started to cry and apologized. “She said she’d gone to Walmart a couple of days ago and bought an Eddie Murphy tape and that’s what they said on the tape.” He says Dartez indicated she did not realize that the term could be interpreted as a racial slur.
Oooookay. (Or did she say “O-tay?”) So, did she watch Best of Saturday Night Live videos and not realize that it’s un-P.C. comedy, not P.C. cultural training?
Dartez has issued an apology, but is now refusing to withdraw from her race:
Dartez has represented parts of Terrebonne, St. Mary and Assumption parishes since 1999. She has said she does not intend to drop out of the race.
“I made an insensitive comment when speaking with Hazel Boykin, and I have apologized to the Boykin family and publicly for my choice of words,” Dartez said in a statement. “I have a strong record of fighting for issues important to the African American community; in fact, I have a 93 percent voting record with the Black Caucus.”
Oh, well, that makes everything alright then!
Dartez has quite the shady history. Protecting illegal aliens, for example, isn’t exactly a help to the African American community. Her husband was indicted on charges of allegedly harboring illegal aliens through his construction business earlier this month:
A federal grand jury has indicted the husband of a state representative and his business manager in an investigation of illegal immigrants at the husband’s Morgan City businesses.
Lenny J. Dartez — husband of state Rep. Carla Dartez, D-Morgan City — and Kenneth J. Morrison face federal charges of harboring illegal aliens. Prosecutors are also seeking the forfeiture of two company vans allegedly used to transport illegal immigrants to and from job sites, according to an indictment filed Friday. Lenny Dartez, a member of the Louisiana Democratic Party’s central committee, was arrested last month in the investigation. He has denied wrongdoing.
Prosecutors allege that two of Lenny Dartez’s companies, Winston Service Contractors and Cobra Contractors, hired out at least five illegal immigrants from Trinidad to refurbish offshore piping. Morrison is listed in the indictment as the manger of both of those companies.
The investigation began earlier this year when federal agents responded to a tip that illegal immigrants were allegedly working for Lenny Dartez and living in a group of mobile homes in Amelia, according to court documents. The agents detained five Trinidad nationals in May, three of whom were on their way to work in a van registered to Winston Service Contractors, according to court documents.
Most of the workers had traveled to the U.S. on tourist visas, according to court documents. Morrison told agents that all of the men had provided Social Security numbers, but a former office worker alleged that Lenny Dartez and Morrison knew the immigrants were illegal and processed their payroll information separately from other employees, according to court documents.
On top of all that, Rep. Dartez recently hit a pedestrian when she made an improper lane-change, and had been involved in two other vehicle incidents–one a serious motorcycle crash, the other a DWI.
Will she get a pass on her “Buckwheat” moment? It wouldn’t be the first time. Remember California Democrat Cruz Bustamante’s n-word incident? If these Democrat politicians spewing epithets were white, the grievance mobsters would be crying institutional racism at the top of their lungs. When minorities are doing the slurring, though, the p.c. police are more than willing to chalk it up to thoughtless “slips of the tongue” and “accidents.” (Contrast with macaca-gate.)
Watch the national media coverage. Or rather, the lack thereof. Double standards and business as usual…

No word yet on whether Dartez has made any “Velvet Jones” jokes.

When will Eddie learn to erase the hate and join the 21st century?
Seriously, I totally agree that her stance on illegals is much worse for the black community than her stupid buckwheat gaff.
and what’s a tape?
The wonderful thing about this is that her career in politics is likely over. I doubt there is anything near enough bowing and scraping she can do to get back in the black communities good graces. And she did it all to herself. Price of a SNL dvd? About ten bucks. Witnessing a Lib/dem flush her political future down the toilet……priceless
Botched joke.
Heh.
Eddie Murphy also did a skit where he said “Merry Christmas God Dammit!” Is that going to be Carla Dartez’s holiday greeting?
Since video tapes are no longer manufactured and are not availabel in stores, how did she manage to buy a TAPE a Walmart?
available
I love it when the ghost of Sigmund Frued reaches out and bites some faux liberal politician in the butt!!!
Is that tape in the nappy headed ho section or the oj trial mark furman section?
#8 AJ its probably from the personal collection of the esteemed senior(and I do mean senior citizen) senator from WV, Robert KLANWEASEL Byrd.
BTW a little off topic, the KLANWEASEL makes Murtha look penny ante when it comes to pork.
It’s in the “I don’t feel noways tired” section.
It’s always amusing to watch Democrats and liberals trip over themselves when two of their pet causes collide. Which cause will win out? Which cause is more politcally correct?
But when you see everything - especially morals and laws - as “relative”, your path in life becomes a jumbled mess, bound to contradict, confuse, and double-cross itself time and again.
Only a paternalistic liberal/progressive could possibly think that they could get away with this behavior. Is Rep Dartez channeling Shrillery?
Eddie also did a great skit about an employment interview…
“DEAD honkey!”
I loved those, they still make me fall over laughing…
Come on Michelle, it’s not fair to bring up the illegal immigrant charges against her husband.
Everybody knows that the only reason the charges were filed at all is because of a vast-right wing conspiracy by the Bush Administration to destroy the re-election bid of a democratic candidate. It has nothing to do with the fact that her husband actually broke the law. Another Democtratic “progressive” is the victim of conservative, right wing pile on tactics.(end sarcasm)
Could have been worse for Dartez. Had she bought a Richard Pryor video, she might have called Boykin’s mom a “mo**erfu**in’ ni**er.” Looks like she dodged a bullet.
What do expect from the party of Southern Democrats that worked feverously to keep the black community down in the 50s and 60s. From a historical stand point the Democrats have always done more to suppress the opportunities of the black community while betraying all of us to illegal invaders.
swj719AWG,
Actually that was Richard Pryor who did the interview skit with Chevy Chase.
Maybe they could just send her some sensitivity training videos of her favorite gansta rap artist. Oh, wait a minute, she’s Caucasian, she can’t use that kind of language with bringing down the wrath of race hustlers Al and Jessie.
Didn’t Eddie Money also do a Mister Rogers sketch? And who could forget, “I’m Gumby, dammit!” I am not sure how these would fit into a political campaign.
And now if I may serenade Michelle a la Eddie Murphy’s Buckwheat:
You’re unce
Tice
Fee times a mady…
That is an interesting picture of President Bush next to Carla Dartez.
After all, they blame Boooosh for everything so that HAS to be his picture - right?
Someone needs to monitor, print and update a list of racially insensitive words for these politicians. Since the list seems to grow each day, it will be a daunting task, but someone should do it.
On a side note - I am organizing a class-action suit and protest against Nabisco / Kraft Foods. Their repeated use of the word ‘Cracker’ in their advertising and product line is insulting to me and every other white person.
I can’t tell you how humiliated I feel when I go grocery shopping and am bombarded in Aisle 13 by unending racial epithets everywhere I look.
I look to the right - “Cracker”
I look to the left - “Cracker”
And just when I think it’s safe - I turn the corner to aisle 17 and there it is…. White Bread. I feel so degraded and I’m not going to take it anymore.
So I ask any other downtrodden white Americans to join my call for action and march on Glenview Illinois, home to Kraft Foods Global, in a sign of solidarity.
( I’m working on a similar response to Wonderbread for all you “White Bread” affected individuals - stay tuned )
SomeOtherSteve,
It’s cool. All black comedians look alike…
Another idiot bit it. LOL
You gotta wonder how loud Senator Byrd is laughing at this, in his most private of quarters.
Double standard watch number 2,053. This will get ZERO coverage from the drive by media.
lol jrl,
and dont even get him goin on the “white zone” at airports.
I wouldn’t get all excited yet. This is Louisiana we’re talking about after all. (and I have the absolute moral authority
to say the above because I was born and raised there…but I moved to TX as fast as I could!)
I am just wondering out loud.
Is Obama black enough to say Buckwheat?
soap obama has to say “wheat thins”
I can’t help but notice that it seems like any adverse comments directed toward African-Americans end up being portrayed as some form of bigotry.
The newest additions: the mention of hangman’s nooses and buckweat! BUCKWEAT: The best kind of pancake, is now ANOTHER word we can’t use?
It seems that the founding American principle of Free Speech is rapidly giving-way to the elitist tactic of suppression of “some” speech if it hurts someone’s feelings! I think it’s time to choose. Either Free Speech or not. I don’t see any middle ground.
9ers? Ouch!
OT-
if we beat the Bears then I might gloat a little.
I’m sure good “Tawana” Al and “Hymietown” Jessie will be right down there standing up for their people too.
See that dog, do he bite?
Kill your landlord.
Kill your landlord.
C-I-L-L- YOUR LANDLORD.
She does a pretty convincing imitation of “Drunk Girl”, too. Sounds like its time for a new career!
Miss Black America called and said she did not like the thin jokes.
Is Rep. Dartez a minority? She’s a woman, which means of course she is a victim of oppression by the misogynist anti-feminist phallocracy…but I’m not sure she has a race card to play.
I just think this whole thing is ridiculous. Even if it hadn’t been a racial term, it still would’ve been inappropriate.
Whatever happened to acting professional? I get really sick of people who treat everyone like their best friend. Perfect example: teachers and parents who would rather be a friend and “cool” than an authority figure/role model. Grow up, folks!
oh, bleepin spare me. everytime this happens, it reminds me of Ms. Millie slapping Oprah in Color Purple after Oprah dared not to accept her “your children are so clean” compliment.
these donkeys are the current day Miss Millies. they’re every bit as racist.
I’m guessing that she may actually be clueless enough not to realize that Buckwheat would be racially insensitive. Afterall, why would anyone in their right mind say that to a supporter? Maybe she thought that it would be taken lightly. In any event, this is just another example of racial overkill. I’m so tired of hearing about people who are offended by passing remarks. We all say stupid things, we apologize, and it’s over. The lady apologized. If the offended don’t accept, then they have an agenda. If they do accept, let it go.
Of course, let’s treat conservatives the same in the future.
So much for buckwheat pancakes anymore…. Well, another person looked for and found offense. I always thought my parents raised me very well; but they made one mistake. They taught me “sticks and stones” and ignore “stupid” people. Now, I’ll never get my 15 seconds of fame and my day in civil court, collecting riches. Such a loss…a gain never to be seen. Well, at least I can concentrate on people and not dissect their words trying to find something to scream about.
“I’m not a racist…I have several black friends”. Isn’t that basically what she said? She will, of course, get a pass on this. She will get elected and all this will be swept under the rug. Why? Because the black community has been spoonfed the lie that only Democrats care for them and their needs…like they need to be coddled and babied in the first place. They have been lied to for so long that Republicans are all racist and Democrats are caring and loving and tollerant. They never question all the racism that the Dems put out on a daily basis. They ignore everything that was and is said about Clarence Thomas, Condi, Powell and any other black who has succeeded in life andall because they are rich and black, and more than likely Republican. Those people are called “Sell-outs” and “race Traitors”. For some reason, it is wrong to be rich and well off…it isn’t black enough. And where does all this come from? Liberals. Liberals who have the black community convinced that there is nothing they can do for themselves and that the Liberals will care for them, provide health and financial services and if anyone stands in the way, they will be the first ones to play the race card.
It is just disgusting to see this in practice, or to hear it talked openly about. “Bush hates blacks”, “Bush Administration purposely committed attempted genocide in new Orleans because Republicans hate blacks”.
Yet who are the ones making all the racial slurs time and again? who are the ones who have a former Grand Dragon as a high placed Senator in Washington?
Their hypocrisy and lies know no bounds and they will stop at nothing in order to keep the black community in institutionalized slavery. They are kept as emotional and institutionalized slaves and they refuse to see or acknowledge it or do a damn thing about it.
“Buckwheat”? Please, you hear Liberals say far worse things at Starbucks when a black family walks by.
I’m so fearful of being politically incorrect - I order my coffee ‘dairy-product deficient’.
( Smile if you get it ).
I just don’t see the political double standard on this whole “slur” issue.
Look at the flack Michael Richards and Isaiah Washington received in “Liberal Hollywood”.
Don Imus sure as hell isn’t a conservative.
Joseph Biden received more negative press for his “clean and articulate” description of Obama, than George Bush received for calling Obama “articulate”
Biden also got negative press for his languge about finding Indians in every 7-11 in Delaware.
I just don’t see a double standard on this issue. It’s a reach.
Is the term “Buckwheat” offensive to black people? Situations like this all come down to CONTEXT. Apparently the Boykins found the usage to be an insult, and their opinion is the only one that matters. Lastly, this whole issue probably won’t get much press outside of Louisiana. Dartez isn’t nationally known.
Yep. I can have coffee that is light in color with my Wheat
ThinsCrackersThingysShe’ll probably win anyway. After all, Rep. Jim Moran D-The People’s Soviet Socialist Republic of Alexandria, VA keeps getting re-elected despite beating his wife, yelling at a Catholic priest, blaming Jews for the war in Iraq, and putting the smackdown on an 8-year-old black boy who he claimed was trying to carjack him. As long you promise the bennies and promote baby slaughter, the libs and government dependents will keep voting for you.
I’ve heard she’s going to make an appearance to apologize on James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub Party.
She could have called her a bigfoot who can’t walk steps.
She could have told her
“You got no ice cream you got no ice cream, you got no ice cream.
You on the welfare, you on the welfare. And you daddy’s an alcoholic.”
But…no. She had to bring up Buckwheat. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
I hate it when Whitey tries to be down wit da brotha.
Goonie goo goo.
It’s likely going to continue this way until white people begin to demonstrate some sort of spine.
“Buckwheat” is hardly a racial slur. It’s rather disturbing to see MM and AP (though I’m less surprised about him) calling for this woman’s head over nothing. That’s the same thing the Left does.
They don’t have a right not to be offended.
junkin #34
ROTFLOL
I prefer “James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party” to the Buckwheat parodies.
I have to agree with jrlingreenbay (I do love the
Packers!) about the word cracker. We get that from the
leftists so much, here in the south. I don’t think they
actually know what we are..we’re just rednecks and
crackers to them. She apologized..big deal…so did
Trent Lott and he didn’t use any racial slurs. If you are
a DIM you can get away with it. If you are a Republican
you are tarred…OOPS! painted and feathered and
ridden out of town on a rail. She won’t go anywhere
because the yellow dog dims vote straight ticket no
matter who’s on it.
It was a silly mistake, albeit offensive. She’s apologized as she should. To ask anyone to resign or drop out of a race over a slip up is too much.
Got it right you are either an Entitlement Slave or a Tax slave. Entitlement Slaves live in the urban gang ridden cities. This wonderful phenom is a direct result of the welfare Dem’s provided.
Biden didn’t get a pass, because he has said these things so many times before, people finally decided it wasn’t a mis-spoken word but a definite pattern.
Democrat party was the KKK that is why the Democrat’s do not mention about 50 years of their history on offical website. It ain’t pretty…
Context is everything. As a professional pol addressing a volunteer, and with knowledge of their ethnicity, this is an example of gross stupidity. (but i repeat myself)
I wonder if there’d have been such a brouhaha if she’d just have said,”Talk to you later, crapweasel!”
Michelle probably would’ve gotten the heat. So, lets’ all breathe a collective sigh of relief for Michelle.
29Victor #51
Dang! Beat me to it..LOL
Of course, “O-tay!” was Porky’s line; Buckwheat never said it.
Just doing my part to ensure Porky gets the long-overdue respect he deserves.
It was a silly, stupid mistake that, if made by a Republican, would have been the end of their career.
Macaca anyone?
This whole incident must have the Democrats “Stymied!”
Spot On.
Buckwheat is no racial slur, get over it.
Black people really need to get over this ridiculous double standard already. Let’s not play this “holier than ..”, altruism kick the dems play in order to appease the black voters.
It doesn’t bother or surprise me that Dems are racist, but that they are so hypocritical about it gets under my skin.
Buck I
I tend to agree that there is more information out there on both sides of the political fence than before. I think the point, however, is that the pressure to “equalize” the scrutiny for the left as well as the right is coming from the blogosphere and not the MSM. The fact that the MSM tends to ignore these incidents when out of the mouths of leftist babes, at least until the blogs light a fire under them, is an unfortunate fact.
But they are now getting exposure which is good - fair is fair and equal should mean equal.
As far as this being a slur, a politician should indeed know better. With that said, we have developed this “victim” mentality in this country which has caused extreme sensitivity. I wonder, if that term had come from a erson of color, whether the reaction would have been the same. Kind of like the use of the “N” word - in many cases, it is OK for people of color to use that word to describe one another, but it is taboo for a white person to use it, even with friends. I recall when Kerry Collins was the QB for the Carolina Pantners, and used the “N” word with some of his teammates in an informal setting. I believe he received a pummeling over that.
Great link, great book and great video as well.
If African Americans ever looked into history, they would run from the Dimocrap party and never look back.
That is why I loath Je$$ie, $harton and their ilk. They are the worst kind of race-baters and they belong to the only party that will pander to them.
In response to the idoitic “Buckwheat” remark the mother should have blew her off with “O’Tay, Ofay!”.
I was going to ask where this woman lost her common sense. But then I remembered she is a Dem politician, so that question pretty much answered itself.
The republican party and blacks don’t mix. When I left the democratic party, my family had a conniption.
It’s funny though, I never held what one would call true democratic values. I never felt entitled to anything…worked hard to get where I am. Even politically, I never shared many of the same views. I’m black; therefore, I am a democrat. That’s the way it was until my husband came along. He politely told me that none of my views are democratic and that my views are more aligned with republicans. As they say the rest is history.
But I have other problems. I came from the hood, married a white man and I am a republican. I have no street credibility whatsoever.
Oh and regarding this faux pas, my hubby said it best “She one up’d the stereotypical “black friend”…”I bought a tape of a black comedian.” “Wow, you’ve listened to Eddie Murphy? You’re black like me!
Will she get a pass?
Well……..let’s see…..
George Bush sr. got raked over the coals for referring to his grandkids as ‘the little brown ones’ years ago….
So, yes, she’ll get a pass.
While I find it wonderfully amusing to see any lib squirm like this, and I think there are lots of reasons to want Dartez out, I think in this case we should be defending her. She said something naive at best, and stupid at worst. Who hasn’t? No one, no matter how much we detest their politics should be in the kind of trouble about any one word.
30 Pieces of Silver said:
Your hubby is a smart (and lucky) man. This is the same thing I told my parents, lifelong Democrats, way back during Slick Willy’s Rule. I approached my father with questions to help him pinpoint his values.
Every answer he gave me were in tune with Republican views! I asked him, “If you believe this way, how in the world can you be a Democrat?” My mother ended our discussion with, “Rush Limbaugh’s own brother hates him, and Newt Gingrich cheated on his wife while she was in the hospital with cancer! And, I have you know, WE like Bill Clinton!” That was the last conversation about politics I ever had with them.
My point…you can lead a horse to water, but he’ll gather no moss!
Now that’s funny.
guitarguy-
Actually it was Ronald Regan who said it regarding his VP’s grandkids and the MM accused Regan of having alzheimer’s disease over it. If I recall he said it 1983 or 1984 during an election.

What double standard?
Mean while, another white woman celebrity is trying to help inebriated pachyderms in India. We all have to have a cause! Why couldn’t that by a story that came out on Friday so we could have some Friday fun?
Thanks GSP!
Jim:
I can’t remember if Kerry Collins was attempting to be insulting or not.(like Kramer) Context is everything with this type of issue. I think of Pulp Fiction and the “Bonnie Situation” Tarantino’s “dead nigger storage speech” was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Of course the movie made a point to show that he had a black wife, and he was obviously friends with “Jules”. It’s a movie and that’s how the characters spoke. My white friends don’t have that same freedom with me, and my black friends simply don’t use nigger in every day speech. Lisa Lampanelli is an equal opportunity insult comic, and she slurs everyone, and it’s all in “fun”. Of course if a white person is quoting something (rap lyrics, Huck Finn, Tarantino), a free pass should be given. It all depends on the context, and setting when it comes to racial language. When is language racist? “You know it when you see it”
I’m not sure if Dartez was attempting to be insulting, or simply “botched” a joke. I wasn’t there. None of us were, and it’s not on tape. I’m not losing any sleep over it though.
Mean while, another white woman celebrity is trying to help inebriated pachyderms in India…
pickled pachyderms?
jrlingreenbay
I to want to join your class action and by the way I laughed my ass off….brilliant!!!
On subject the Democrats are and will always be the most racist bunch of people on the face of the earth.
I grew up in a liberal family and I can tell you the words they used for different ethnicities would make your head spin.
Nothing’s changed and they get a pass. African American’s who continue to vote Democrat have only themselves to blame for these haters.
For the posters who keep referring to black democrats with the esoteric description of being slaves,I feel the need to reveal a secret.
Black people are actually capable of free thought and reason. We have this amazing ability to look at social issues and foreign policy concerns, and actually form an opinion. Kind of like white democrats, some of us black democrats can actually make political decisions on sound ideological grounds. Are we also assuming that white people become democrats as some sort of diabolical conspiracy to keep us blacks under control?
Isa wanna thanks ya’ll good folks fo ya concern tho. If what’s you sayin is true, we be sho to rejoin the pauty of Massa Lincoln.
I love it when black people are underestimated, and when pots call kettles black.
So let me get this straight–if I make a reference to a character from a movie, TV, or some other medium, who happens to be African-American in context to a real person who happens to be African-American–that constitutes a racial slur.
What if I call them MR TIBBS? That was a character with character.
Excuse me for rambling.

They.call.me MISTER Buckwheat!
Biden is also still in office and didn’t lose any status.
Hillary makes her comment about an Indian running a gas station and she is running for President.
…BUT…
Lott makes an off-hand comment about a 100 year old guy at his birthday party about something that happened FIFTY YEARS EALIER and has to step down as majority leader.
The ex-president of the Virginia ACLU is arrested for having THOUSANDS of child porn pictures and videos and it barely makes a blip on the radar. This guy was instrumental in designing the weakening of the kiddie porn laws in VA & nationwide.
A Democrat Congressman (Cleveland??)has SEX with a SIXTEEN year old page and Clinton pardons him!!!
…BUT…
Foley exchanges mildly suggestive e-mails with a SEVENTEEN year old ex-page and it’s front page news until the election is over.
Still have trouble with a double standard?
KaosKlerik
There you go trying to use facts to substantiate an argument.
Simple equation:
Dems = pass
Repubs = GITMO
KaosKlerik, don’t forget Senator Byrd using the “n” word on tv a couple years ago during an interview. He’s even a former Klan member/recruiter, so we know he understands what that word means.
Buck I I know you were making your point and that obviously it passed the filter process, but I’m personally uncomfortable with the “n” word even appearing on this blog. I do appreciate your candor none the less.
Bbbbbbbut…I thought the Dems wanted to close GITMO? Oh, that’s right, Republicans and soldiers are the only people whose incarceration in GITMO would acceptable to Dems.
Why isn’t “Tawana Al” and “Hymietown Jessie” outraged about this?
Errah, Is SNL/Best of Eddie Murphy out on tape now? I was only able to get it on DVD! We’re so sheltered up here in Hyannisport. The yacht club has had a DVD player for some years now! Louisana first in illegal alien contractors dead last in edjumakation and DVD players.
Navywife91:
I’ve always found “n word” to be a little corny when white racial slurs are typed out with ease. I do appreciate your comment, and will refrain from spelling out the entire word.
KaosKleric:
You make strong points. I completely agree w/ you concerning the ACLU guy, and was he ever convicted, or is the case still going on? The pardoning of Rep. Jefferson was wrong, but the case was certainly in the MSM. I don’t know if Lott is a racist, or not, but when you tell a man who ran for president as a segregationist, that things would have been better off had he won, well that seems to tell me that Lott believes that society would be better off segregated, and then had to go on the damage control circuit once it all came out. Didn’t fellow republicans make him step down? Mark Foley’s case was big because of the homosexual overtones, and how the commmunications with juveniles, seemed to conflict with his anti child abuse advocacy.
Clinton got murdered in the media for the whole “tried pot, but didn’t inhale”.
I again reference how Biden gets murdered in the media, and verbal gaffes have aided in destroying his relevance on a national scale. The media won’t get behind him.
Some of your e.g.’s and my retorts are also seperate and apart from my original stance that I don’t see a double standard in how media treats so-called liberals and so-called conservatives when it comes to slurs. You won’t get an argument from me that the MSM is harder on conservatives than liberals, but NOT when it comes to slurs.
(Biden, Hollywood, Imus, Jesse and Hymie town). I first read about Dartez on cnn.com i.e. the MSM. I think everyone gets it handed to them, when it comes to slurs.
Thanks Buck I.
I agree with you that it all depends on context. I think the “cracker” comments from this morning’s posts were pretty funny actually. Sometimes laughing about this stuff is good for the soul.

Statistics don’t seem to agree with you, but I’ve always been one to agree that political reasoning can occasionally make its way through to minorities.
I hope you are as candid in person as your are on that keyboard. Othewise you’re gutless. Next.
Buck–Any mainstream political statistic will tell you that minorities overwhelmingly occupy the party of no reason(Democrats). Save your pathetic little “gutless” speech on what may not be so blatantly obvious.
And if you know me in person, you’ll know I’m as candid as they come (I’m Israeli).
Eclectic and Buck I nailed it. Case by case deal, and all about context. Sorry, we don’t get to decide what’s offensive to another person. They’re either offended or they’re not, and you are either sensitive to that fact or you’re not.
PRCalDude’s posts are predictable in light of his stated views on race (check out his “blog”…piece of work).
Etan, WTF are you talking about? Arrogant and tool-like for sure. Candid? Probably only as “Etan” on the internet.
Gee Etan, it looks like you’re trying to say black people aren’t capable of free though and reason…according to statistics. Look at what you chose to block quote. If you wanna spit out some type of opinion on the inherant intelligence of black people, then be a man and spit it out. Nobody on this thread argued that Black people aren’t overwhelmingly democratic. I’m saying black people are overwhelmingly democratic. Either you are arguing against somebody that doesn’t exit(there’s pills for that), or you’re trying to make a comment on the ability of minorities to think and reason in general. If the former is the case, then have guts to spit it out.
I think we can all be thankful that Carla Dartez did come across any old Amos and Andy tapes.
didn’t come across
Clueless - well she’s a politician.
She bought a tape? More likely a DVD that she couldn’t get into her BetaMax…
“Good manners” has been defined as the art of making others comfortable. They go a long way in this world. Respect for others’ mothers might make you inclined to refer to her as “Mrs Boykin” rather than Buckwheat or Sweetie anyway.
Exactly AlohaGuy.

Buck–Let’s try to make this clearer for you since your having a little difficulty grasping my logic.
Black people are overwhelmingly democratic.
Democrats are in MY OPINION (you are allowed to have an opinion here I hope) irrational.
Got it?
Oh, dakine, Etan is my given name, not some obscure handle. Sorry, I’m NOT giving up my last name, although you’d probably love that.
Etan, I honestly can’t think of anything I care less about than your last name.
dakine, funny, I feel the same way about your opinion.
Probably a good thing Etan, since IMO you’re a tool.
A little CONVALUTED Etan, but I apologize if I misstook your intentions.
Some things like irony, sarcasm and double entendres don’t come across well in print. Again, a benefit of the doubt should usually be given, so I humbly apologize for thinking you were a cowardly bigot. I’ll cancel the call to Jesse and Al. sarcasm intended.
I wholeheartedly stand behind my prior post about black democrats being accused of being slave like. That’s bull, and an insulting generalization.
Dakine and I usually agree, even though he’s a Guiliani guy and I’m a Obama guy(since Gore won’t step up). Some ideas and opinions cross political lines, and it’s not always about Democrat/republican black/white.
On a lighter note, I wish Eddie Murphy would go back to being funny. Maybe he should go back to doing standup, and use some of the material he’s acquired over the past 15-20 yrs.(Kids, divorce, drag queens, Pluto Nash).
PMYMHMMFSWGAD, darkine.
Buck, Thanks for meeting me half-way (intellectually speaking I mean)
1st off, I’ve used “Buckwheat” many a times, whether aimed at a friend or a Doofus, but I’ve never considered it to be racist. And I’ve never used it on anyone of the female persuasion - That’s sort of like using “Pippi”, for lack of a better word, on a guy. Oh well, I guess times are a-changing and race-baiters will latch on to any and every word to squeeze what they can from it.
More importantly, enquiring minds want to know:
What is a limosine liberal democrat doing at Wal-Mart? Haven’t the Donk elites pounded the meme that Wal-Mart is racist & oppressive?
Then this idiot buys a tape, well known for expletives, to do what? For entertainment (vicarious racism) or self-ejumacation (how to talk jive in 60 mins)?
In any case, every one of her excuses fails the smell test: How on earth does one think to thank a elderly citizen without due respect? Like “Ma’am” or “Miss”, especially in the deep South?
Heck, my mom gets upset at anyone, but her close friends calling her by just her 1st name. Especially from people half her age. The word that comes to mind is patronizing, all the more insulting, for a local civil rights hero that was helping out.
Then again, given that this is the deep South, I guess our modern day Scarlet was just trying to be hip and keepin’ it real.
I hope that the people of Louisiana will wake up and get off the DNC plantation and send more conservatives to back up Bobby Jindal.
Kayne West:I hate the way they portray us in the media. Carla Dartez doesn’t care about Buckwheat!
For those of you who don’t see the hypocrisy in the lack of negative coverage for democrat politicians who slip on these sorts of banana peels vs. the over saturation of negative media coverage regarding republican politicians who do the same…macaca vs. buckwheat will be as good a litmus test as any:
Buckwheat=Dartez indicated she did not realize that the term could be interpreted as a racial slur.
Macaca=Allen said that the word had no derogatory meaning for him and that he was sorry.
Unless democrat Daretz is drummed off the stage by the national media for her statement, as republican Allen of Virginia was, well…then chalk up another one for the liberal, biased media.
Joe Biden’s racial tangos will not be held against him come re-election time, just as no one in the national media is making an issue out of Hillary’s past Indian/American remarks in St. Louis as she stumps for the vote. However, George Allen will get his head summarily shot off the next time he throws his hat into the ring.
Yeah, Carla, but what’s really in your heart? Beware of Democrats who will “fight” for you.
I think Mr Boykin is absolutely right in not supporting her. There is no place for that sort of thing in this day and time. This is just my opinion, but I think most liberals look on minorities this way - just something to be used as a means to an end.
But I have to love it when the chickens come home to roost.
Assuming that saying something offensive proves that a person is a racist, is the arguement liberals use all the time to tar Republicans. It’s wrong when they do it, and it’s wrong for us to do it.
We should be, along with other things, using this situation to try to show that to our liberal friends.
Yeah, I know. It’s like trying to teach a pig to sing; all you get is covered in mud and an annoyed pig.
By the numbers:
1 - “Buckwheat” by itself is NOT a racial slur, unless used in the context of snarky condensation between people of differing races.
2 - Gotcha moments involving non-PC verbal gaffes should not, IMHO, be career killers. Consistent poor performance in the execution of assigned duties SHOULD be.
3 - I am sick and tired of people trying to throw down the Race Card to advance their agenda, visit some “payback” upon someone they don’t care for (politically or otherwise), or other use to deflect the spotlight away from something that they, in fact did.
4 - Regardless of political party affiliation, anybody caught in a poor light like this should apologize ONCE, being sincere about it, to the offended party alone.
5 - I could personally care less what the NAA”L”CP says and does as they obviously don’t care about black conservatives.
There is no Number Six.
7 - I’m glad to see Eddie Murphy’s name out there again in something that doesn’t pertain to transvestites or lousy movie roles.
Okay, I can stop now.
itzWicks, I think I’m a fan. Please post more often.
Gee a racial slur and even worse, she shops at the sweatshop known as Walmart. Tsk ..tsk…
