Seditious outrage in Olympia: Protesters block trucks, pour concrete on train tracks to stop military shipments
Update 8:30pm Eastern 11/14. This is far from over. You need to know that these lawless thugs are instigating a nationwide movement to shut down the ports and block military shipments in your town:
“What we’ve chosen to do is look at this as a community and decide we aren’t comfortable with the use of our port for an illegal war,” said T. J. Johnson, an Olympia City Council member who was part of the demonstrations. “We’re not going to end the war from here in Olympia, but if as a community we can shut down a port, maybe other communities in the country can follow our example.”

Police used pepper spray on a crowd of about 150 demonstrators as they tried to block shipments of military gear from Iraq, but officials managed to move out several loads to a nearby Army base through a side entrance. Police arrested 43 people Tuesday night at the Port of Olympia in the state capital during the second week of demonstrations against the shipments, which arrived at the port after an Army Stryker brigade based at Fort Lewis returned from the war. Those arrested were released until prosecutors decide whether to charge them, police spokesman Dick Machlan said.
Update 1:45pm Eastern 11/14. I’ve heard from blogger Sondra K and several pro-troops readers who were at the Port of Olympia countering the moonbats last night. Here are a few of their reports:

My husband and I have been down there morning noon and night all week ALONE on our side until finally Sunday some more folks showed up. The news really wasn’t getting much of what was really going on and I was running around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to get people to come see for them selves.
I went first to the police station Tuesday morning (they were closed all week end and Monday for the holiday) and gave my personal information as a potential witness (TJ Johnson, city councilman opened up City hall Sunday night without notifying the community for a “hearing” and gathered a bunch of these anarchists together to file hundreds of police complaints. THAT’s a whole ‘nother story, that guy.)….I then went to City Hall and tried to find out what the hell was going on, that all this was happening and NO ONE WAS DOING ANYTHING….the lady was sweet and ignorant and gave me a nice “how are we serving you” pamphlet to fill out and return with my “complaint”. By then I was getting desperate. I finally called the Governor’s office almost in tears and was greeted by silence when asking why nothing was being done. I was getting terrified after watching the chaos all week end. The woman on the other end said (and I quote) “If you’re not happy with our laws I suggest that you take your complaints to the legislature”.Michelle, I pretty near had a nervous breakdown….
…Anyways, thanks for your help, I was really starting to freak out but am feeling a little better after last night. I’m sure it’s not over but the equipment got to where it needed this time and I found I wasn’t all alone.

I was at the Port of Olympia last night supporting the troops and the Olympia Police Department. Yes there is a dissident community here in the Peoples Republic of Olympia, composed of patriots, veterans, veterans families and sane people. We also had better hygiene than the protesters. The cops did an outstanding and restrained job of controlling the protesters, who were mostly kids. Cowards like City of Olympia Councilman TJ Johnson (rather than worrying about local issues in Olympia, TJ wants to impeach Bush and do other important tasks on the dime of Olympia taxpayers) were directing things from the rear and never putting themselves in harms way. TJ Johnson does not even have the guts to get arrested for civil disobedience. He has 18 year old girls from The Evergreen State College (the school that got Mumia Abu Jamal to do a video commencement speech for them a few years ago) get arrested for him.
…Around 11pm and 12 am, the Police started to clear Franklin Street, running into the center of the Port where the protesters were hanging out. The Strykers and Army personnel used that to race up Swan Town Road a block over (as classic diversion). I saw a few police firing what appeared to be pepper spray from paint guns, but it was limited and intended to keep the protesters from pulling a Rachel Corrie with the Strykers (which because they have wheels can run on the roads directly).
The environmentally sensitive protesters then proceeded to throw trash all over the intersection of Plum Street and State Street, a couple of blocks up from the Port. The Strykers were not blocked and proceeded on their way. The City of Olympia now has to clean up that mess.
We waived to the troops in the Strykers and thanked them for their service. They waved back and thanked us. The ironic part is the protesters said they want the troops home and then blocked these Army personnel returning the Fort Lewis. The troops are coming home, why block their way? Then again, why ask why?

On Monday, I told you about the moonbat convergence in Olympia, Washington, where children are being used as human shields by anti-war zealots trying to block military shipments to and from Iraq. The demonstrators continue to run wild. Their latest acts of destruction and sabotage? Pouring cement on train tracks:
Activists protesting military shipments at the Port of Olympia poured cement over railroad tracks to try to block shipments coming out of the Port today, according to Olympia police. Nobody was arrested after protesters unsuccessfully tried to keep trains from leaving the Port, said Olympia police Lt. Jim Costa. The Port cleaned up the cement, Costa said.
Nobody was arrested? The Port cleaned up the concrete? Can you spell a-n-a-r-c-h-y? A member of the far Left Portland Indymedia site trumpeted the dangerous vandalism here.

For the second time in a week, protesters stopped military equipment from moving out of the Port of Olympia today. A couple of vehicles attempted to leave around 8:30 a.m. but with no police on scene were stopped by protesters standing across the access road…
It’s unclear why either the police or the military would believe they could move out military equipment unimpeded as they’ve met resistance on every attempt so far. Protesters were allowing civilian vehicles to exit the port.
The protesters were in charge of directing traffic. Hello? Is anybody home?
…Fort Lewis issued an advisory last week saying the convoys of between eight and 10 military vehicles would travel during night hours when fewer motorists are on the road. However, the rigs contracted by the Army to return military equipment to Fort Lewis “will occur throughout the day because they travel more individually,” said Joseph Piek, a spokesman for Fort Lewis.
Seventeen people have been arrested since the protests over military equipment leaving the port began one week ago.
Arrested…and released uncharged, according to blogger Sondra K, who has been organizing pro-troop counterprotests at the port.
This is not free speech. This is unconscionable vandalism and physical interference intended to undermine the troops in a time of war. Someone needs to establish the rule of law in Olympia before it’s too late. Enough is enough.

This is INSANE! Had they poured this cement in an area where it was not witnessed, a train could be traveling in excess of 70 MPH, hit the section of cement and completely derail. This would cause a great deal of destruction, loss of life and potential hazmat incident depending on what the train might be carrying, which could lead to a vapor cloud of unknown toxic and/or caustic vapors, seeping into houses and murdering innocent and unknowing men, women and children.
In their quest to allegedly “save lives”, they are putting countless people IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY at risk of injury, maiming, and death.
For this to go unpunished, for there not to be arrests, detainments and full prosecution under the strictest measures of the law is unconscionable. The Chief of Police, Sheriff, and any stat law enforcement agency that has not and will not do so needs to be fired by the Mayor, the County Board of Supervisors and the Governor IMMEDIATELY. No other option is allowable.
Each and every one of these people that are participating in this should be in jail. Even those that did not actually pour the cement, but who knew about it and did nothing to stop it. they should be prosecuted as co-conspiritors and at the very least, of crimes after the fact.
I cannot believe this is what this country has come to. Have we really learned nothing from the crimes that were committed 35-40 years ago? What is wrong with the basic hard-wiring of Liberals that the enemies lives are far more precious and worth saving than that of our own country men, women and children.
As a fireman, and one who has seen what happens at a train derailment, I can tell you first hand that what you see of them on television is NOTHING compared to what they are like in real life.
The Left-Wing and the Liberals in this country need to be stopped, and stopped right now. It has gone on far too long, and this pretty much tears it.
Michelle, you have a voice in the media. I don’t know what you can do about it, but please, while I know you are just as angry and incensed by their foul deeds as the rest of us, please make sure to do all you can to let this country know the truth of this matter.
I don’t even want to think what would have happened had they been successful in derailing a train that was secretly transporting nuclear waste or worse, nuclear weaponry or some other heinous weapon that would have been far more destructive than chlorine or some other chemical.

The only difference is that, as far as we know, no one was chanting “Alluah Akbar” as they poured the cement or put their children in front of the semi’s. Why is it when a terrorist cell plots and carries out something like this, they are sent to GitMo, but when Hippie freak birkenstockers do it, they are applauded and told that they are just executing their First Ammendment rights. They are, after all, supporting the troops, right?
I cannot stress enough the damage that is very much a reality should they succeed. Do not think it will not escalate beyond this. they now have media attention, and with that, they will get worse. To that end, should the media go away and consider this a non-story once it runs it’s time, they will seek out a new way to get them back in the spotlight. What could that possibly be?
Why do people have to be killed by these freaks before anyone will finally take this seriously and do something about it. Again, the line between treason/sedition and dissent is not any where near as thin as these Liberal terorists want you to think it is. this is a very overt act of treason and sedition, and it is time that the Feds do something about them.

1. they’re destroying public and private property

3. The war wasn’t illegal; it was legal from the first day that Saddam was in violation of his 1st of 17 UN resolutions imposed on him for illegally invading Kuwait.
These people need to be tried, sentenced, and thrown in prison starting today.

None of these people have not been prosecuted because of the left-leaning local and state government in Washington state.
I’m confused. I didn’t think the police had a choice about arresting people. I thought if a a crime occurs, they are bound, by law, to arrest the perpetrator(s). I wonder why the owners of the railroad tracks don’t sue the local government for not upholding the law.
What I am particularly interested in is the NAME of the group that did this.
ANSWER? United for Peace and Justice? Greenpeace? The Ruckus Society?

Unfortunately, along with Puget Sound, it is the largest “deep water” port on the US west coast North of San Francisco and Oakland … Portland and Coos Bay in Oregon, and Humboldt Bay in California are classified as “deep water” ports but are considered too small to handle the amount of shipping traffic the military generates leaving us basically no other viable alternatives.

This is not a law enforcement issue. Our railways, interstate highway system, and U.S. Routes were all financed in part by the federal government to facilitate the movement of materials and resources in time of war or insurrection. As such the roads or railways between bases and ports can be militarized and civilian traffic excluded. Do this and announce that the base commander has authorized the use of lethal force against anyone blocking or attempting to block the passage of any military convoy. Lock and Load.
….OR shut down Ft. Lewis and get our war-fighters out of Washington. Post them some place where the people appreciate their protectors…and the economic benefits their posting brings to the area.

Some people don’t understand what “free speech” really is. Any right comes with a responsibility. No one has a “right” to destroy things. No one has a “right” to jeopardise their children’s safety. No one has a “right” to impede rail or road traffic. If you want to stand by the side of the road and carry signs or sing songs of protest, that would be within your rights. The Justice Dept. has yet to do anything but put our Border Patrol folks in jail for doing their job, so we know they won’t pursue mere anarchists!
The basic problem is that we never actually declared War. This allows a lot of people to get away with traitorous actions. What is really amazing is that the police and the justice system in Olympia are refusing to do their job. Wanton destruction of anyone’s property is a crime that should be prosecuted as a crime.

My dad’s side of the family is loaded with them and they still call themselves tar heels from when they left North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. Ever hear of the Prineville vigilantes during the 1890 range wars when the “Juniper Tress Bore Fruit” (due to regular lynching of transgressors). There are plenty of folks in eastern Oregon and Washington willing to kick butt on these traitors.

AS for lying in front of trucks, this is the same tactic used by AIDS activists in the ’90’s. Some used to lie in front of trucks transporting drugs to hospitals (including ones to treat AIDS). They did this to protest the drugs being too expensive.
They thought the drug companies were evil and greedy. You should have seen the segment they did on “60 Minutes”. One truck driver started putting his wheels against a protestor’s skull.

I would’ve tried to place them all under citizen’s arrest for sedition. After all, by the above logic, my freedom of speech protects my right to interfere with (arrest) people that I disagree with.

No. We cannot afford to surrender yet more rights to the federal government than we already have. The moment we agree to centralizing power, we’ve lost - and people WILL have a valid argument at that point that this is a facist state.
A clear line needs to be drawn, instead, between freedom of speech and sedition / treason. A line such as: parades, protests and the like are acceptable and proper; endangering the lives (which the protesters are doing) of those not involved in the political process (i.e. military) is not protected by this act.
These people can protest all they want but there are proper channels that they are to go through - their senators and congressmen. This temper-tantrum reactionary behavior is because they’re not getting their way is anarchy, plain and simple. It should be treated as such.

The Evergreen philosophy isn’t to “peacefully protest.” They’re way, way beyond that… they’re into “Direct Action” style tactics like you see here: obstruct, prevent, interfere, undermine and sabotage.

There are those with a vastly different worldview than many of us in this blog (in fact, many of us in this blog have differing worldviews) but I’m able to reason with many of them. Then there those who just never grew up past the “if I put my hands in front of my eyes, you aren’t there” stage. I agree that attempted reasoning with such is impossible because they have a worldview that reality is not really reality, pain is only real if it’s happening to themselves and they are the center of the universe.

But, I would say that most of us on this blog, while having different OPINIONS on various matters, nevertheless most likely share a similar WORLDVIEW.

I formally propose a much more physically aggressive response, which might take any of a number of forms.
The drivers could employ men that the industry refers to as “lumpers”; these are riders whose responsibility is usually to handle loading and/or unloading at the point of pick up or delivery. With modest modification of the job description, these employees could carry axe handles and be charged with clearing (human) debris from the path of the trucks.
Or, the facilities could be equipped with a fleet of 4 wheelers with cow catcher style front ferrings. The fleet could line up tight at the point of confrontation and clear the debris much like the snowplows work at northern airports, tumbling the garbage off the road, and ideally into some sort of deep ravine.
Lastly, the military could declare these vermin to be combatants, and jail them indefinitely, without representation or specific charges until the war effort is over. I prefer this one. Can you just imagine the hearty reception that a bunch of Northwest Moonbats would receive down at Gitmo, from their brothers in arms, the jihadi? I would further recommend shared quarters.

Well there ya go. If the civil authorities won’t do anything the feds have to step in. This is NOT a local matter. What they are doing is endangering the troops directly and indirectly endangering every single American citizen. This is very much a federal matter. I would like to see every one of those protesters who is blocking the roadway or damaging the rail lines to be tried by federal authorities under any and all applicable statutes.
By the way, isn’t there a very specific law against vandalizing rail lines? I seem to remember reading something about that and it being a pretty darn serious charge.
It is clear that there is a grave misunderstanding on the freedom of speech rights that protesters have.
The 1st amendment gives them the legal right to yell and scream and play bongos all they want. The fact that they are deliberately interfering with the transportation of military supplies in my opinion is cause for at a minimum arrest on disorderly conduct charges.
If Washington can be seditious on the invasion of illegal aliens, I guess the people can ignore laws also. What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

I like your thinking here but you really don’t believe that any of your proposals would be considered seriously.
When we were confronted by protestors blocking a roadway or sidewalk, I was empowered by law to cause the removal of the protestors using whatever force was required to effect the arrest.
I don’t understand why the police were not allowed to do their jobs in this case. My guess is that the local government prohiibited them from getting involved because of political concerns.
My recommendation to the good people of Olympia to call their chief of police and demand an answer as to why they did not enforce the law. A police chief is supposed to be independent and not subjected to political pressure from either side.

If the driver of the truck had injured or killed any of the protestors, he would have been arrested for assault or homicide. This would never be considered a justifiable homicide because none of the protestors presented an iminent threat of injury to the driver.
The answer to this problem lies with the local police and their unwillingness to do their job. If they won’t act, then the feds need to step in and make them do their jobs.
Round them up, give them nothing to wear except long t-shirts with “I volunteered to be a human shield” written in large bold letters and send them to Iraq!

Gregoire came to our office in Bellevue yesterday to give a speech about trade, infrastructure, education, etc. She took great pains to tell us how much trade we do with foreign countries, and how wonderful our state is. Ironically, she made no mention of how we are to conduct trade when the roads leading out of the Port of Olympia are blocked by a bunch of rabid vandals?
If pouring concrete on a train track is free speech, I’m going to tag the governor’s mansion this weekend and claim 1st Amendment.

I do not live in Washington, but these acts affect the whole country. So, I took the liberty of letting some people in the state of Washington know how I feel about this situation. I emailed Governor Gregoire, Mayor Foutch, and the city council members to point out that, regardless of political view on the war, these protesters are committing criminal acts. I cited the law posted by Gothguy in #46 (thanks for that, Gothguy) and another law on the Washington State Legislature website which describes the class B felony of “malicious injury to railroad property.”
As I am not a constituent, I’m sure they don’t care what I think. I just wanted to let them know that the whole country is watching to see how they handle this situation and that we are aware of the laws being broken. I have never done anything like this in the past (I’m ashamed to say) but I hope they hear from a lot of people, across the U.S., and it makes them afraid of how their next steps will be scrutinized.
I’m wondering what the motto of the Olympia police force is. Is it “To Protect and Serve?
More like: To selectively enforce the laws of the State of Washington so long as they do not interfere with the PC moonbat policies of the local whackos.
Its time for the military to do something proactive, and I propose the following:
a) Reestablish a perimeter zone, that leads to the nearest interstate. Call in the ASF that has additional responsibility for a five state area to assist.
b) Update the post orders binder and rules of engagement. Recon the area, see what cars they are using, take down approbiate information and proceed from there. They want to wear masks, this solution makes it a null point and if someone is stupid enough to loan their car to a moonbat-be prepared for the consequences!
c) Call in VFA-105 (or your favorite fighter squadron) and do a few low speed passes at the speed of sound.
d) Equip the trucks that are leaving with the same strobe sensors that will change the traffic light when they are close so there is no stopping.
e) Give the orders to man and charge the hoses…On my mark 3 ,2, 1…..
anyone left, will be rounded up and charged with sedition.
f) Establish a tent like jail on the base compound (hat tip to Sheriff Joe), and begin legal proceedings there.
Common sense approaches, and now lets hope someone with cajones steps up.

These people took an oath to uphold the law. The oath usually calls for due dilligence in the performance of their duties. I don’t think due dilligence includes looking the other way while people break the law in front of them.

We are at an impasse with this whole situation. The law will not do anything about the terrorists who are putting even their own children in danger.
On the other hand, should any *real* Citizen of this country step out and do what must be done to stop them, the police will certainly arrest and charge the individual with everything possible.
The government is promoting terrorism, and protecting the terrorists by preventing the Citizens of the United States from protecting their own country.

The US government is no longer controlled by the people. It is detached from the citizens and running amok. “We the people” have failed to recognize the point at which the government needed to be removed and replaced.
We as a country do need to be at war, but the enemy we need to be killing is here at home. The problem is that the government will go as far as killing us should we dare to try and do the job they refuse to do.

If so I would think the businesses whose products are being stopped would start to complain as well…
