What does ‘no war in Iran’ mean?
Stanford University student Tristan Abbey challenges a mindless moonbat mantra:
The latest obsession of protesters at Stanford — or whatever we’re supposed to call the student group that roams around campus from demonstration to demonstration — is stopping the impending “war in Iran.” For them it’s a win-win scenario: If there’s no war, they get credit for stopping it; if there is a war, they warned us and we should listen to them next time. But there’s one question they can’t answer with any degree of precision: What’s a war?
Read the whole thing. Send it to your favorite misguided left-wing student. Also check out the comments at the Stanford Daily site.
Hang in there, Tristan. Your dissenting voice of diversity is needed!

It means total surrender to world wide Islamo-fascism.
Well, heck, this is an easy one! No War in Iran means, if the Quds Force, or any other Iranian military force kills any (1) American citizen, or (2) American soldier/Marine/airman/sailor/coastguardsman/, or (3) diplomat, we will not respond with targeted aggression.
We will ONLY respond with rhetoric, finger wagging, and a whiny plea for peace, and then apologize for making them expend their ordinance on our people. Pretty simple, see?
It means giving up our interests in the region for the sake of their cowardice.
Student’s with a cause unite. It beats doing homework.
Commenting on the commenters of Ms. Abbey’s column. Those that appeared to disagree could neither state why she was wrong nor what a proper solution might be to the Iran question.
She was quite right and well informed, IMHO.
You can tell the Stanford kids are smarter than the Columbia kids. At least they eat.
Protester: I can answer that. A war is a … ah… err… Impeach Bush!
Her article was great, and the comments were even better.
Ms. Abbey’s comment was the most humorous I thought.
Tristan Abbey should be veeewwy caaawful, she’ll never get tenure by defying the selfprotecting tenured leftists who run our colleges and universities. Only fellow nutballs are allowed to commingle with the Nut Roots elite.
AMEN!!!!
Take out Iran now before it’s too late. If the goofballs of Code Pinko don’t like it, too bad. What a bunch of losers those left wing loonies are.
I love the bumper sticker that says,”WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER” I want a bumper sticker that says,”THAT DEPENDS ON WHAT THE QUESTION IS”. Haven’t found one yet.
Iran has been at war with us since 1979. Think about that.
Wow, what a well written article. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Mrs. Malkin.
I commented on the Stanford page, and I will say it here as well. Miss Abbey is spot on in her assessement. Iran is conducting a guerilla war against the US in Iraq, and unfortunately, we are not able to do much about it outside of the Iraqi borders. The al-Quds are a very well trained, very professional force that was modeled after our own Special Forces in Vietnam. Iranian President Ahmacallajihad is one of the al-Quds founding members. In addition, the Quds are a “open secret”, much like our own SFOD-D, and they do not report to anyone in the normal military chain of command. Rather, they report directly to the Supreme Ayatollah in Iran, who we all know doesn’t care very much for us.
The Iranians are trying to bait us into attacking them so they can have a rallying cry for Muslims around the world. Fortunately, the future President will listen to their military advisors and wait until we wrap up our current engagements. Sure would be nice to be able to stage attacks on Iran from two fronts, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Tristan Abbey is actually male according to his last comment.
Good stuff and great comments over there.
Marshall Russ #12,
Reminds me of a shirt I’ve seen recently. “I know violence isn’t the answer. I got it wrong on purpose.”
Don’t crown me bro
Colleges and universitiy faculties do not cultivate independent thinking these days. Drab socialist conformity is the order of the day. Independent thought backed up with facts will not be tolerated.
If you disagree, tenure you’ll never see!
It means that we should kill them with our pointed dialogue and rapier wit.
#18 I was channeling the “ghost of Johnny Cochrane.” If Carlos Mencia can do it, so can I!
‘No War In Iran’ means we will not have to sit through the inevitable anti-Iran war movie that Hollyweird will make. Erm I mean we don’t have to see it anyway. Just saying is all.
Heh, that’s a rhetorical question, right?
I mean, these people still ask what a ‘victory in Iraq’ would look like.
War = whatever they say it is. DUH!
For example: the left wing loonies love to say that we haven’t won a “war” since WW2. Therefore, Korea was a “conflict,” Vietnam can be a war because they perceive that we “lost” it (note: it was the “Vietnam Conflict” when we were kicking butt in every single battle), Grenada was a “skirmish” I believe or perhaps an “intervention,” Iraq 1 was just a “military operation,” Afghanistan was a “regime change,” and Iraq 2 is “The War in Iraq” because, once again, they perceive that we are losing — which is actually pretty comical, because after all, how dumb can one political movement be?!
Why is “no war in Iran” mindless? It seems fairly specific. It isn’t saying “no war anywhere,” or “no war in Iran ever.” It’s just saying that we shouldn’t go to war with Iran now. That’s very sane advice. We have no casus belli, we’re stretched thin (financially and militarily), and we don’t want to give Iranian citizens another motivation to radicalize. We want them to veer towards a secular democracy — one that we can have friendly relations with. We’re not helping that cause by bombing or invading their country.
Iran is many years away from a nuclear weapon capability, if that is indeed what they are seeking (remember, that hasn’t been established). Iran’s meddling has been limited to local affairs. Let the locals deal with it if they think it’s a problem.
Thank you for that “Head in the Sand” analysis” Even if you were correct and your not, we should still take out Iran now because they are killing our troops in Iraq and working to destabalize the entire Middle East.
Kevin… #23
You’re right. We won every battle I fought in Vietnam, but we lost that war on the streets of Washington DC. Plain and simple.
re 24: Killing our troops is hardly a “local problem”.
Andy you know this because
a) you’ve personally been there to observe?
b) you trust a guy who denies the holocaust
c) you are smarter than the Israeli defense assessment
d) you want your mommy to take care of it.
Just fyi: Tristan is a guy.
Mark: As Tristan notes, it’s all in the definition of “war.” As you’ll see from his piece, he isn’t talking full-scale bombing or invasion. He wants to know where the “No War” people stand on surgical strikes, special ops, other military options.
Let’s hear their answers.
It gives us Peace…
for 5 years if lucky. Reguardless to quote Plato. Only the dead have seen the end of war. We can turtle in and ignore any threat, but that doesn’t make it less real.
War Will happen again, most Westerners have be spared the flame thanks to proxie wars and think they are immune, that no harm shall come. Personnaly I doubt things like ICBM’s will ever be used. Tactical weapons maybe. Remember after WW1 War would never happen again thanks to the horrors of Chemical and Gas Warfare. We got a new War alright. One in which the weapons many said would be used never were.
With Global Communications and greed as a factor its only a matter of time till some sort of Anti Ballistic Missile System enters the armory of all major powers opening the door to convential conflict that was only closed in our minds.
The human race is repeating history. The Bastilia was a wonder weapon of its time, and the mongols used a primitive form of Chemical Warfare. The spearman gaveway to the Calvery, which in turn became the Tank. Our leftist may be happy with leaving allies in the Dust, but that breeds hate and resentment. And it might take 4 years, or 25, but they will strike back. Keep in mind in Western History we had a thing called the 100 years War.
More often than “once in a while”, my husband and I run across a car or home with a “War is NOT the Answer” bumpersticker or sign.
We always look at each other and say, “War is not the answer? It depends on the question.”
The basic plank of the liberal platform is that everything - morals, values, rules, and laws - are relative, and can be changed or ignored or violated if and when it suits their needs.
Since they see nothing as unchanging and sacred, it makes sense that they are unwilling to fight for anything.
So here’s a newsflash for them: Sometimes, war is necessary. It’s always sad and tragic, but it is necessary for the preservation of a civilization.
I know public school education isn’t perfect, but any high school graduate should have enough reading comprehension or listening skills to understand what the biggest figures of Islam have said repeatedly. Let me sum it up for you:
- Anyone who isn’t Muslim is an infidel.
- Infidels must submit to shari’a law and the caliphate by either:
- converting to Islam
- living as a second class citizen and paying taxes to preserve a fragile existence
- dying
- Islam must be spread throughout the world.
- Terrorists won’t stop until they reach the White House.
- Israel - a sovereign nation - must be destroyed, as must America.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We all know how wonderfully women live under Islamic law.
So clearly these people have lost all sense of self-pereservation. They’re too busy worshipping Gaia, shopping at the local co-op for Birkenstocks, and engaging in seditious acts of vandalism to bother with the pesky thought that - under shari’a law - every liberal “right” they love would be gone in a heartbeat.
Idiots.
Mark Jaquith, are you serious?
The esteemed leader Ahwannajihad has bragged recently about NOW having 3000 centrifuges…co-incidently the number nuclear experts say will enable Iran to have a nuclear weapon within one year!
Have you looked at any of the satellite photography showing their nuclear facilities? They are ringed with anti-aircraft missles and AA guns. Can you name just one of our nuclear “power plants” that are protected that way?
Iran just turned over blueprints (discovered by accident during an IAEA inspection in 2003) for forming metal into a nuclear warhead, after repeated demands by the IAEA.
Iran has enough oil reserves to last for centuries. They have vast water resources that could also be used for production of electricity, and it could be done a lot more cheaply, and with less animosity than their quest for nuclear energy (if you believe their inplausible denials) costs them.
It confounds me how people with the ability to formulate logical opinions can ignore the signs of obvious treachery, and make “wave of the wand” comments like yours.
Iran is many years away from a nuclear weapon capability, if that is indeed what they are seeking (remember, that hasn’t been established).
You just go on believing that, Mark.
Iran hands IAEA Nuclear blueprints
Then there is the character of several of Iran’s nuclear sites
So true! Is it conincidental that this strategy is also consistant with Mohammad’s guidelines for establishing, and honoring treaties with ones enemies…keep the treaty, until it suits you, or benefits you to break it. I just saw that on another blog a few days ago. If I could remember where I saw it, I would link it. Sorry.
Looks like a Mexican standoff among the belligerents, Jihad, Jewhad, Crusade, and Zionism, but God is with the Axis of Good.
Thanks, LarryD! Very thorough.
This Stanford grad [me 1960] wrote off Stanford when they dis’d the very very cool Indian mascot [who would dance and carry-on in a headdress that went ten feet behind carrying a tomahawk, etc... as in "Give "em the Ax the ax the ax"] for a
pause for PC moment… bird…
Now the great Stanford “Cardinals”… well, Wikipedia says it’s for the “color red” either way, what a bunch of wimps.
Obviously these children in the California University system do not understand that Iran declared war on this country on 4 Nov 79 when they broke international law by storming our embassy and taking the staff hostage for 444 days.
There is nothing I could think of that terrifies me more than the thought of this theocracy getting its hands nuclear weapons. There is not doubt in my Military trained mind (mostly trained on the effect of nuclear weapons as a SAC aircrew member) that these people will use them on their enemies (Israel, US bases, and/or Europe).
Boomer, I should point out(if others haven’t beaten me to it), that Stanford is a private University, and not part of the California State University system. I agree, though, with what you’re saying.
I don’t believe I’ll be alive long enough to see the coming war, but if God grants me the time, I’m with ya, all the way.
I would think that they’d be happy to have a war with Iran. That way they can cheer each time a brave American soldier is killed or wounded and root for the Democrats / Iranians.
i saw a bumper sticker driving in Los Angeles around 2004. I was totally shocked, too. I loved it, it said:
Give War A Chance….
I wish I had one!!
thanks epodug I stand corrected.
uhangtight — Here you go!
There’s another one that says “Peace Had a Chance.” Or I like the one that says “Appeasement Will Kill Us All.”
Right on Archon.
So would random, mindless violence be ok then?
Toes
Actually Stanford changed their team name to “The Cardinal” … as in a cardinal number rather than an ordinal number … has nothing to do with birds or the color red …
And I am not a Stanford graduate …
So that’s who was walking in the traffic lane with 3 to 5 other people the other week. A small Security truck was following behind with their yellow light flashing. It was a yawner. People were trying to leave work and commute off campus. I left work the opposite direction. Just another moon bat wandering aimlessly in the daytime seeking attention. YAWN!
Excellent article, Triatan. It is comforting to know there is at least one rational student on the left coast.
For all the reasons cited, I do not believe the US and/or allies will or should launch an offensive against Iran. That is what the Iranian theocracy wants!
Despite Iran’s deliberate provocation by supporting insurgents in Iraq, if the West will support and encourage the 80% of the Iranian population who want a regime change, they will take care of the problem.
I liked this comment on the article:
I mean, really, what’s the point of having elections if you’re not going to like the outcome - one reason I think liberals should not be allowed to vote.
A word from Tristan Abbey:
Thanks for posting this article Michelle. Universities need to re-establish true freedom of speech and Mr. Abbey seems up to the task!
The next time you see “no war in Iran” signs, Don’t mock them, just join in with ‘NO! TO AMPHIBIOUS LANDINGS IN BURKINA FASO!!’
Michelle Malkin said:
Good, you caught it. I’m a little late with this, but:
Tristan, Gaelic for Tumult. Quite the pot stirrer, eh? Living up to his name. Good on him.
I agree - you are not a Stanford graduate. Good joke, though, if that was intended. Do I smell a Cal bear??
Cardinal is offically the color.
And The Farm gets mentioned twice today. What is the world coming to??
Stangrad ‘61
Link doesn’t appear to be working. Has the story been taken down?
Got it, My bad….
These idiots can scream about “No War” and “End The WOT” till they are blue in the face here, but it means nothing. They are complaining to, and protesting against the wrong people and the wrong country. If they were really serious about it, and they had any cajones what-so-ever, they would take their signs, their pink shirts, puppets and other foolishness and go to the countries that actually started the WOT. They would be marching in Iran, telling little britches that nukes are bad…just like they do here. They would be in Iraq telling all the suicide bombers and people planting IED’s that killing is wrong and war is bad and all they are saying is give peace a chance. They would be in Syria, Palestine, Sudan etc., protesting the mass slaughters and homicide bombings. They would be in every single country, other than this one.
But they won’t. They are cowards who haven’t a clue as to the real reasons we are at war. It just shows that their real issue is a fundamental and deep rooted hatred of this country, and that inside, they actually support everything our enemies are doing, including the long awaited mass genocide of Israel and those darn pesky Jews. They just don’t know when they aren’t wanted, apparently. How dare they try to live in the land of their ancestors in peace.
Michelle,
You mentioned in comment #28 that you want to hear their answers. You were right to use the plural, “answers.” Every anti-war knucklehead to whom you pose the question will give you a different answer, because none of them actually know what war is.
(Speaking generally now)
I am not pro-war, but I am pro-this-war, and I am pro-stopping-Iran. No one WANTS to go to war just for the sake of going to war, but sometimes you need to speak their language, and it seems that they don’t speak “dialogue,” “diplomacy,” “sanctions,” or “six party talks.” They did show us in Beirut, Africa, NYC (twice), DC, and Shanksville that they do speak “war,” so that’s what it’s gotta be. We need to end all the red tape and let loose with a fury the world has never seen before.
Trinity Tim,
God bless you. Thank you for your heroic service. Marine? Army?
#55 RetFireman
You got that right.
This unwillingness to confront the real troublemakers manifests itself in another type of behavior that really bugs me–people getting all over the cops when a high speed chase ends tragically, and not saying a word about the ones who were running from them. High speed chases would be avoided altogether if the people with the blue lights behind them would just pull over.
No, people like these wimps on the left would rather dish out their wrath on the good guys, secure in the knowledge that they won’t come come to harm from doing so.
Anyone see the latest op-ed by Amir Teheri? I thought this last part was especially interesting, as it is an angle that I have not heard at all before:
“He should also expose Ahmadinejad’s bogus claim that Iran is enriching uranium as fuel for power stations. Iran has no nuclear power plants and thus has no need of enriched uranium. The only nuclear plant under construction is to be completed by Russians at an unspecified date. But the uranium enriched by Iran at Natanz isn’t suitable for that plant, which needs a specific type of fuel - the specifications for which Moscow has refused to give to Tehran.
Because nuclear fuel has a lifespan of three to four years, the Natanz uranium can’t be intended for any of the 22 nuclear power plants that Ahmadinejad says he wants to build in Iran over the next 25 years. If told that the centrifuges are working to train Iranian scientists, Baradei should know that, at the level of scientific research, Iran already could enrich uranium in 1978.
The centrifuges working at Natanz can only be producing ingredients for nuclear warheads. Baradei should tell that truth to the Iranian people and the world at large.”

The fact is that the liberal behavior in education does’nt start at the College level it start’s when these kid’s go into Middle School.
How about “SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER?”
That sum’s it up because they have no answer’s.
My brother gave me a t shirt during Desert Storm I, from 53rd TFW it has a skull with a pilot’s helmet and an f-16 flying through the eye socket it reads
Desert Storm
When Diplomacy Failed
sorry folks that’s the answer war in some form.
Send the vapid Medea Benjamin and any ready volunteers on a fact finding mission to learn what war is and what IslamoFascist butchery is. Talk to the chiiiiiiildren who know the difference.
Take Katie Couric and the View Crew while they are at it.
War is not the answer, but it certainly raises far more interesting questions than the garden variations of “How far do you want us to bend over?”
Don’t hose me, Bro.
Baradei’s ruse has become evident to US war planners. Only Condi believes what that guano purveyor says. I am glad he is ham fistedly manipulating the deck in Iran’s favor. It’s one more reason to unleash hell.
Thing is… we keep trying to reason with these people, but they are not reasonable. They are the anti-everything crowd. And if there wasn’t a war to protest they’d find something else to keep them from going to work.
How can you reason with or deter people who feel it is their destiny and purpose in life to not only see the destruction of Israel, but actually cause it in order to bring about thr Global Caliphate and to die in the process, thus not only granting s sick, perverse sex fantasy, but in lying to the world about it you are keeping with the very teachings and spirit of the act?
