Desperate Dems play with S-CHIP again
Instead of working with Republicans to pass an acceptable bill for funding CHIP, the federal children’s (well, children plus adults plus maybe illegal aliens, but they won’t say it) health insurance program, the Dems are plotting ways to use it to embarrass the GOP come election time. Of course, they really, really, really do care about The Children. It’s all about The Children. Via the Politico:
Democrats are considering giving Republicans a stark choice on the stalled children’s health bill - cut a deal now or face a politically treacherous vote on the issue one month before next year’s elections.
The SCHIP debate has been quiet publicly, but behind the scenes Democrats and Republicans have been negotiating for weeks. President Bush has already vetoed one SCHIP bill, and he has threatened to veto the latest version of the legislation, even though it has been modified to include firm income caps on eligibility and stronger language to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving the health benefits.
If there is no deal by mid-December to expand the program to 10 million lower income children, Democrats may just propose a temporary extension until Sept. 30, 2008, which would force a vote on a critical issue just before election, according to Democratic aides. Sept. 30 marks the end of the fiscal year, but the timing, of course, would make vulnerable Republicans either abandon their party and approve the bill or vote against a popular social program just before the election.
Let ‘em do it. Looks like they learned nothing from liberal Oregon.

Who thought socialised medicine would be so popular. The horror tales emanating from Canada and UK only seem to make it more desirable to the Dems.
If any Republicans take this deal they won’t have to worry about losing in Novemeber, because they’ll have already lost the primary election.
I really think that the Democrat’s do not quite get that there is new media around.
They constantly appear to be living 20 years ago and really most of them have been there that long and so it seems they have not caught on that they no longer can get away with old standards…the poor, the children, the old…when they wake up perhaps we will have a better Democrat party…nah doubt it.
The real problem is that ever since Vietnam, when the Dim-wits saw how easy it was to cry, whine and carry on until they got their way, we’ve seen this over and over.
How many laws and elections have been overturned because some sore looser took it to court, instead of bowing to the will of the majority?
Case in point - the first election of GWB. When it became apparent that AlGore was losing in Florida, and was going to lose the election, the first thing that happened is that the whiners and snivelers took the election results to court to have them overturned. When Florida wouldn’t yield to them, they decided to go to SCOTUS, and got shot down there. After that, rather than submit to the will of the majority, they contracted a virulent case of BDS, which has caused the to do everything in their power to oust him, up to and including undeniable and provable cases of sedition, along with their allies in the MSM.
“After all, if we can’t have our way, we’ll do everything we can to keep you from having yours,” seems to be their motto.
Hence, this focus on S-CHIP and having their own way, like a bunch of spoiled brats (no offense meant to any of you spoiled brats out there). What is sorely needed is, as my father often told me, is a “swift application of the board of education to the seat of learning.”
There seems to be no shame in using children as shields - after all, if it’s good enough for AQ, it’s good enough for them.
It’s certain that those we elected to represent us - don’t. I didn’t vote for Stark-Raving-Mad, but he was elected to represent me. I didn’t cry about it, or sue, or take it to court. I accepted it - not happily, mind you, but I accepted it as the will of the majority. What’s so hard about that?

I am really concerned about the children of parents who elect gov’t healthcare for them. Lord knows how long it will take for any sick kids to see a doctor, or longer to see a specialist. Canadians can come here, but our kids will have nowhere to go. I wonder too, how long it will take before gov’t takes control of raising kids. Just like the old Soviet system. Soon kids will be wards of the state…”to protect the children.”
I say just let the whole SCHIP die. No extension, period. Put it to bed. Greed has taken over. It’s all or nothing. Give’em Nothing.
the term progressives, was originally used by the communists back in the days of McCarthy. This was to hide their true affiliation, couldn’t say you belonged to the communist party.
What a waste of time and money. Bush, needs to be on the bully pulpit every day. He can use Oregon as an example, that the people really don’t want this. And, the congress is supposed to represent the people.

SCHIP, like other forms of socialized healthcare are bad business and bad news for government. TennCare, Tennessee’s version of Medicaid, has been one of the things that happened fiscally for the state. It has been the cash cow of the Tennessee budget from its inception amounting to about 1/3 of the states budget in recent years.
And, speaking of the abuse of it by and for illegal immigrants: Tennessee only counts 1/3 of their income/assets to see if they qualify, where as an actual citizen has 100% of theirs counted.
And, then, there are all the horror stories that accompany for people having to wait for treatment by overworked providers. I lived in Florida for a short time and had two good doctors that I saw there. They were both from Canada. I chatted with them on different occassions as to why then ended up in the US, instead of their native Canada. In both cases, they cited the deteriorating socialized healthcare system and how it runs contrary to providing for the best delivery of service to patients and hindering healthcare professionals.
Progressive, liberal or whatever you want to call it, socialized healthcare is bad, bad, bad.
I was listening to some whining liberal public service add on the radio urging Idahoans to demand our Congressmen to vote for S-CHIP. They used the typical liberal argument will they vote for our children or will they stand by President Bush again (because he is a big meannie not allowing children free healthcare). It is not being well received by the people I know.
The Republicans should let the Democrats lard this bill up as much as they want, and then have a vote a month before election day. Let the voters decide if insuring “poor” 30-year-old “children” who make $120,000 a year is a fit use of tax money.
Why is it so difficult for everyone to understand that this isn’t a bill to continue the program — that’s already taken care of — but rather a bill to GROSSLY overexpand the current program???????

When will we as Republicans and/or conservatives grow a pair and stand up to this. Let’s make a campaign issue of it. Let them have the extension and then hammer them with the fiscal irresponsibility in print and voice and TV. Either the American people can tell what is right or we have already lost the fight.
I feel like they’re trying to take away my right to grow up. Honestly, I would love to have magic access to some overflowing pot of gold, and never have to worry about money and always get to play and have fun. I really would. But life doesn’t work like that and money has to come from somewhere–in this case, other people’s money.
While I really and firmly believe that people who can not afford healthcare should be given provision to be cared for until they can support themselves, having legislation that makes tapping into government healthcare so easy for people who don’t need it is not only ridiculous, but it turns those who take advantage of it back into children.
I was taught that the definition of maturity means contributing more than you consume. It seems like it’s time for a lot of people to be given a chance to grow up.

They’d rather give us all access to craptacular health care than dare embrace the notion that health insurance is a person’s own responsibility (save very rare circumstances), and that those who DO pay should receive the level of care they pay for.

The Democrats/socialists are all about equality: equality of misery, equality of scarcity, equality of want, equality of unachievement - the lowest common denominator.
As someone said above, there is no pot of gold somewhere containing money for all of us and for all government programs. The money comes from us - the taxpayers.
Government produces nothing - nothing.
It can only redistribute; in other words, take from someone, and give to someone else (after sucking out its own, huge middleman’s cut, of course).

Something funny to report: A guy my wife works with saw Sicko…he thought it was good. My wife then said to him - well you know, for every good thing you say, I can show you an article which talks about how care is rationed, those needing it the most are treated the least, and so on. His response - “Don’t believe everything you read”. So my soft spoken never get in anybody’s face (much to my annoyance) responds - “You also can’t believe everything you see”. He walked away muttering.

If SChip is still tied to an increase in tobacco tax I still want to know if the tax will be sufficient to cover the cost. If not, and I seriously doubt it is, then we’re in for a serious tax increase. Many reports claim the largest numbers of smokers are those in lower income brackets…so, they’ll get health care for their little ones (who will diffinately need it), because they’ll be buying less necessary items for those same children so that the adults can continue their smoking habit. What are the morons in DC thinking that support this bill?
$9,000,000,000.00 is coming stright from the Social Security account for 2008! It goes up every year after that until they bring it up againt in…2012!
Guess they figure all those illigal aliens will start paying taxes to keep SS solvent?
To fight the Congressional Dems on SCHIP, the GOP ought to throw it right back at them.
The GOP ought to put forth an amendment that require any Congresscritters and the staff of those who vote for SCHIP be required to sign their own children up for SCHIP coverage.
* The SCHIP program is basically the same as Medicaid — full of red tape and restrictions on providing quality care.
o There’s lots of clinics that don’t take it, or severely limit access to care by one means or another. This is likely to get much worse if SCHIP passes in it’s current format.
o Putting more folks into the Medicaid treadmill is only going to make it harder for the truly needy on Medicaid to get timely care as the middle class starts cutting and crowding in line for their care.
Making it harder for needy kids to get care isn’t compassionate, it’s nuts.
