Kos + Rove + Newsweek = Zzzzzzzz
There’s been a little tizzy in the blogosphere over Newsweek’s hiring of Markos Moulitsas Zuniga on the left and Karl Rove on the right as campaign commentators/contributors.
I wouldn’t get too worked up about it. The fact that they both accepted the invitation shows they share a need for mainstream approbation and a common belief that writing for a circulation-losing, influence-dwindling publication is worth their time.
I predict they’ll write preemptively safe, toned-down pieces to match expectations of MSM respectability–and they’ll save any truly newsworthy, interesting insights for their own home bases (dKos for Kos, conservative talk radio/Fox/etc. for Rove).
No “exploding heads.” Just heads nodding off…

Who cares?
One of these people is a man who’s influence is waning and who’s opinions are rapidly becoming irrelevant.
The other is a man who’s influence is waning and who’s opinions are rapidly becoming irrelevant
I did see some of the comments from lefties proclaiming that they’re cancelling their subscriptions and all that - thought it was kinda funny…
The keepers of the ‘Freedom of Speech’ mantra are showing their true colors once again….
If they touch each other, they’ll be mutually annhilated.
Markos writings will likely reflect some of the worst printed opinions of the far left. In the same vein as “soldiers are mercenaries”, or “I can understand why someone would want to blow up a church”. I don’t expect Rove will write to that level of derangement.
What’s newsweek? About the only places I see it around here are 5 year old copies in waiting rooms. Even then I only look at them if there are no Reader’s Digests around.
Awesome - Newsweek got not one, but TWO people that love illegal immigration and would de-value American citizenship. Great two-fer for them, and it fits with their general editorial stance.
Plus, Karl needs the money so that his son doesn’t have to - gasp - wash dishes for a summer job. My gawd, he just couldn’t let that happen now, could he?
“Stop the Press’s!” please.
Newsweek pathetic, dredging for what? Imus used to have the Newsweek Weasels on all the time. Newsweek were like rats jumping a sinking ship when Imus was canceled….and the Kossacks were telling their readers to go skew a poll on, should Imus be fired, in the negative. These are the folks that Senator Clinton, is counting on to help her win the Democrat Nomination, and then the White House? Hillary Clinton took credit at The Kos convention for the establishment of Media Matters…and now it looks like Newsweek is part of the Clinton faction. Media Matters targeted Don Imus and Imus in the Morning, which is coming back 3 Dec, 77WABC 6:00 A.M. eastern standard time. One of his first guest booked is James Carville of the old Clinton Campaigns…I wonder what he has to say ????
I fear the polarity.
Not.
Michelle, I believe that’s “Snewsweek”.

I wandered through some of the leftosphere and they all insist heads exploded in the wingnutopshere at the Kos announcement, while all I’ve noted is muted bemusement.
Of course, they’re freaking out over Rove. They still insist he outed Valerie Pflame.
if the left cancels their newseek subscription, then the company will surely fold, as i it is doubtful that many conservatives are still reading that tripe ridden mag.
snzzzzzz.snzzzzzz
Valerie loves being outed - she’s a publicity “hound”, and should send a nice Christmas gift to - oh wait, it wasn’t Rove…
I couldn’t get past:
Rove being the counter point to Markos elevates him to new heights. This means the dems will listen to the kook fringe even more.
This is either a genius Rove move, or a desparate move for money on his part.
At least Rove is worth listening to, and his columns will not be filled with antisemitism and other hate speech. Then again, do people still read Newsweek?
Apologies for being off topic, but I wonder why Double M has not spent more time on the Hillary planting scandal, especially with the children having a debate tonight. Perhaps she has debate fatigue.
Respectfully,

Rove is not desperate for money, having just signed a huge book deal…and his recent WSJ pieces have been excellent.
He may have had a few missteps while in the White House, but I wouldn’t underestimate the man now that he’s free and on his own.
To the luminatti at the failing and flaccid Newsweek, they believe that KozRove are their own personal publishing Viagric duo! Up, up and away!
So I guess that means this is a genius move then?
Well you guys can have all your sour grapes, I’m laughing ’til I cry over the selection of Rove to “balance” Markos. I think it delightful.
Newsweek lost me a very long time ago in the 80s. This will do nothing to prevent the continued death spiral of the printed media.
I’d love to see the pay differential for retaining soK puppet vs. Rove.
Yawn.
Well, it could be amusing. Potentially at least. Beings like Markkkos can’t keep the virulent bile down for too long, the pressure will force their heads to explode which will mess up their lovely tinfoil hats.
The real potential lies in whether or not comments will be allowed. I wonder what sort of creatures will crawl out then?
I thought the same thing when I saw his announcement…who exactly was it that reacted so badly?
It amuses me that lefties are threatening to cancel Newsweek because it hired Rove but that is their right. I cancelled my subscriptions to Newsweek and USNews&World Report years ago because I could no longer take their left-wing blather and I am on the verge of cancelling my fifty year subscription to TIME.
Hehehe…..I love the responses over at Huffpo. They’ve got the emotional IQ of a 2 year old.
Newsweek? They still charge for that magazine?
Newsweek? Wow, like many of you I am surprised they’re still in business.
If Rove were as true to the Right as Kos is to the Left we might have something, but Rove is first, last, and always a hack, his only distinction being that he is one of the most over-rated hacks in all the Republican Party, which is saying a lot. No wonder Bush couldn’t get enough of him. Whatever this newsgeek thing turns out to be, it won’t be a battle of principles.
I don’t often approve of Allahpundit’s thinking, but that image of Kos always makes me think of Mentos. So I guess he’s not 100% evil, huh?
Why would anyone on the right fear Newsweek’s decision to give Kos a forum? Ultimately, I want Kos to be the official voice of the democRATic party. Is there a faster way to consolidate a conservative majority than to let Kos speak his mind on behalf of the RATs?
Let him say as many stupid things as possible, then let the rest of his party either try to rationalize or distance themselves from his rantings.
Either way, that’s entertainment.
It’s been a reeeeeal long time since last I read Newsweek. Does Eleanor Clift still scribble her peaens to the Dems there?
I have had the same experience. I think Kos himself started that rumor because he wants to be important enough that it is true. In reality, we don’t read that leftist rag so we don’t care who writes for it.
I long ago refused to renew subscriptions to Newsweek, Time and US News & World Report. I used to receive all 3 in college and happily no longer, not even in my offices.
