The Sharpton circus in D.C.; Update: “Thousands” march

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 16, 2007 10:26 AM

Update 12:45pm Eastern. “Thousands” are marching, according to WaPo.

***
I told you last week about the Al Sharpton demagogue-a-thon hitting Washington this morning. They’re marching around the Department of Justice to protest hate crimes. My syndicated column earlier this week elaborated on the politics of racial insult:

The ululations of the aggrieved ebb and flow like the tide. If there’s an insult to be milked — Macaca! Nappy-headed ho! — the professional victims will rush in, sell some T-shirts, fire up their bullhorns, make the media rounds, issue their 21-point demands, and then recede until the next race-hustling opportunity comes along…

… As for the members of the Jena Six, they seem to have learned to do the victim hustle quite well from mentor Sharpton. The Chicago Tribune’s Howard Witt reported this weekend that some of the defendants are literally rolling in dubious dough. Robert Bailey, one of the Jena Six youths, posted photos of himself mugging for the cameras with $100 bills stuffed in his mouth and covering his bed. “[C]ontroversy is growing over the accounting and disbursing of at least $500,000 donated to pay for the teenagers’ legal defense,” Witt reported. “There are definitely questions out there about the money,” Alan Bean, director of a Texas-based group, Friends of Justice, told the Tribune. “I hate to even address this issue because it inevitably will raise questions as to all of the money that has been raised . . . ”

Inevitably, those who dare ask such pesky questions will be accused of racism and blaming the “victims.” Sharpton and company will continue to deflect tough scrutiny by hiding behind rope imagery. Indeed, they’re invoking the recent Columbia University noose-hanging incident to promote their nationwide fight against “Confederates” — never mind the lack of suspects and the suspicious odor surrounding the Columbia case, which remains unsolved despite 60 hours of security tape and more than a month of probing.

The inexorable rhythm of the politics of racial insult is interrupted only when the insulter doesn’t fit the left-wing grievance narrative. Which explains in part why former GOP Sen. George Allen’s infamous “Macaca” gaffe was covered by the national news media like it was Armageddon, while a female Louisiana Democrat who this week called a black civil rights leader’s mother “Buckwheat” (after the stereotypical “Little Rascals” character) barely warranted a blip on the outrage-o-meter. No pockets to pick, no bribes to extract from protesting a case of abject stupidity that can’t be spun into institutional racism for partisan gain.

Sometimes, a thoughtless insult is just a thoughtless insult. Sometimes, the hate is fake. When will we stop allowing hoax crime king Al Sharpton and his ilk to make every single one of these incidents a federal case?

There will be one interesting counter-protest this morning:

When demonstrators rally on the steps of the U.S. Justice Department Friday to protest the government’s handling of hate crimes, blogger-turned-activist Shane Johnson will be waiting for them with a protest of his own.

Johnson and a modest band of supporters are pushing back against the outpouring of black support for black male offenders, such as the Jena 6, saying it comes at the expense of female victims of black-on-black crime.

The group is leading a Jena 6-like grass-roots movement through e-mails, blogs and rallies. It wants to call national attention to the beating and rape of a 35-year-old Haitian woman and the beating and sexual assault of her 12-year-old son by up to 10 assailants in West Palm Beach, Fla.

In June, armed attackers broke into the woman’s apartment in Dunbar Village, a public housing project, where they repeatedly raped and sodomized her and forced her to perform oral sex on her son, according to a grand jury indictment. They poured household chemicals on the victims’ eyes and threatened to set them on fire, police and media reports say.

Four teenagers, ages 14 to 18, have been charged. Police are searching for other suspects.

Johnson organized the rally after he read about the assault on the blog, “What About Our Daughters?” He questions why national black leaders and black media who supported the Jena 6 and the alleged victim in the Duke lacrosse case have ignored the Dunbar Village attack, in which the mother, son and alleged attackers are black.

“This is one of the most horrific and barbaric crimes I’ve heard about,” says Johnson, 32, a social worker from Washington. “But if the victim is a black woman you seldom hear about it … especially if you have black victims and black perpetrators.”

Ditto with crimes by illegal aliens and gang-bangers targeting black victims.

Won’t hear a word about that out of Al Sharpton’s big mouth.

Doesn’t fit his narrative or his shakedown criteria.

Glad to see folks willing to stand toe-to-toe against Sharpton and his ilk. We need more.

as long as the media caters to the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson their antics of making money from race baiting will not stop. the primary career of both these men has been a form of extortion.

the immigration issue destroys the black community as well. the black community is impacted by the illegal alien workforce; and as of yet these two cons have not found a way to make money off the issue so they are silent. it is time for the truth about the impact to the black community from the illegal workforce be front and center during the immigration debate. Republicans need to lead that charge!

It’s simple, black on black crime doesn’t fit into Sharpton’s political agenda.

I remember reading about that attack over the summer. The victims were attacked for something like 3 hours. It is a terrible and digusting crime.

I do wonder why Sharpton is only concerned about black people when it’s a black-against-white situation. It’s not because he’s behind victims (the Duke rape was a false accusation and the Jena-6 definitely ganged up on and attacked another student.)

I guess the case of a black woman and her son being so horribly victimized by a large group of black teens doesn’t involve Sharpton because it doesn’t further his agenda, to prove that all white people are racists and all black people are victims of this racism. So, I guess this poor woman and her son won’t be receiving Sharpton’s “help.”

I’m glad that Mr. Johnson is standing against Sharpton today, however, I hope the Dunbar Village victims realize how big of a blessing it was to not have Sharpton latch on to their case for his own personal gain.

In order for Al and Jesse to come to the defense of black victims whose perpetrators are black that would require admitting to themselves that there are problems (and we all know that there are!) within the black community that aren’t a result of some black person “fighting back” against so-called white repression.

They way they see it, every time a black person attacks a white person it is out of some deep-seated repression (no racism allowed). Conversely, when a white person attacks a black person it’s racism. But black-on-black crime hints to issues within the black community that he doesn’t want to deal with because that’s not the side his bread is buttered on.

If he cared one lick about those in the black community he would go about things in a very different way. He is a race-hustler and is of no help to a community of people who need help.

and you just expressed the reason it continues … fear and intimidation are how these gangs keep pushing themselves off on these neighborhoods … the people in these communities have allowed themselves to become unwilling to stand up for what is right because race baiters like Jesse and Al have so convinced them that no one is going to support them because they are black and everyone is a racist …

the 2 biggest racists toward the black community are Al and Jesse … they are bigoted pariah feeding off the fears they continue to push off on the black population of this country …

they set the stage for the gangs to come in and succeed in taking over control of these neighborhoods with their agenda driven racist actions that are self-serving … not black community serving …

the people in these environments need to stand up for themselves and when they do they will find a lot of people of all races ready to help them … but they have to show the rest of the world that they are ready to stand up for themselves first … sadly that is the hole they have let Al and Jesse dig for them …

No, they are not buying Cadillacs and such (he was not at all clear about the lawyer bills reported by Bill as unpaid but then did the 6 not have a public defender…please note my ad hominem). Bill was very appreciative of Sharpton’s explanation because Bill, for the ratings man, invested in the Fox truth about Jena and will continue to monitor where the money is.

I do not recall O’Reilly even mentioning the real Jena truth, note my ad hominem above, but can not Fox be thankful for the Sharpton’s of the world for fair and the other side of the coin.

Some years ago, Sharpton either pleaded guilty or no contest to some criminal charges related to his nonpayment and or nonfiling of New York State income taxes. Yet nobody ever asks this champion of the poor if he feels that he has paid his fair share of taxes. Nobody ever asks him why it is social justice for a struggling janitor in East Harlem to pay federal, state and local income taxes while Sharpton apparently did not bother to file or report income. This failure and guilty plea or no contest plea would have doomed any persons other than Jackson or Sharpton from any meaningful place in public life. But for these two hustlers, they are immune from even being asked about it.

It seems to me the more crimes prosecuted as hate crimes the more business for Sharpton and Jackson. White man shoots a black man with a noose and that’s a hate crime. Four illegals assassinate three black college kids and we need Geraldo to explain that previously exporting these degenerates would not have change history. Strangely, not a hate crime but an immigration issue.

I think this hate crime business is really the legalization of black racism where Sharpton and Jackson replace civil rights and the constitution.

Sharpton would be so less relevant if conservatives didn’t talk about him adnauseam. Al Sharpton appears on this site to the point of Sharpton D. S. Fox News claims to be the alternative to the MSM, so I wonder why I see him on shows like Hannity and O’Reilly so often.

George Allen has been nationally known for quite a while as a rising star for the repubs. He’s the son of a legendary NFL football, coach, and he’d been mentioned as a possible V.P. if not a Presidential candidate. His issues or “racism” also date back over 20 yrs. He was running for United States Senator.

Get real: To compare him to STATE Rep. Dartez in LA, whom I doubt 5% of this site had ever heard of is laughable. I’m amazed that “Buckwheatgate” even got MSM exposure outside of LA. It shows the sensitivity of slurs. Allen and Dartez is like comparing apples and pumpkins.

I always give props when warranted, so I’m so glad that this site has brought focus to the horrific tragedy in West Palm Beach. Of course, so called leaders should be marching more often about Black on Black crime. The don’t, they have an agenda, and some of ya’ll are obsessed. Also, suspect is Sharpton’s draw to this protest held in a large metropolitan liberal area with a high % of blacks. These low numbers speak to a lack of interest in this Jena 6 story or at least with anything that has to do with Sharpton.
