CNN’s green thumb

How did CNN’s debate garden grow?

Allah catalogues the varieties of political plant life.

Dan Riehl’s got much more. And so does Eric at Classical Values.

Third Link explaining the interest in the Dream Act

I was sitting in U.S. District Court a couple of weeks ago when about 60 people from places like Russia, Ethiopia, Japan and Canada were sworn in as U.S. citizens by Magistrate Judge Lawrence R. Leavitt. Then they gave themselves a rousing round of applause.

Among them was 20-year-old Maria Parra-Sandoval, a junior in the honors program at UNLV. She was born in Ixtlan del Rio, about 60 miles northeast of Puerto Vallarta.

When she was very young, her father sneaked into the United States with his father and brothers. He worked at unskilled jobs and sent money home. It wasn’t enough to sustain his wife and their three children.

“I lived with poverty all around me,” Maria told me with no air of complaint. “Ours was one of the better houses. My dad and grandfather built it from bricks.” Just down the street was a cardboard shanty town.

Their house was surrounded by cactus, sunflowers and pine trees.

When they ran out of gas for the stove, they burned firewood. They carried water to the house. Their garden produced chili peppers, melons, tomatoes, limes and grapes.

When Maria was 6, her mother decided to sneak the family into the United States. “My mom wanted the family together, and because we lived in a very poor neighborhood, she wanted to find new opportunities for us.”

First, you put the “plant” into the ground (their base), cultivate it (manipulate Q&A), fertilize (spread s**t around), water (use MSM to help growth), weed (selective “plant” growth), and finally, judicious use of insecticides (mis-information and mis-characterization about opponents)!

    Brilliant…simply, brilliant!

I’m going to do my Nation column this week about last night’s debate, but one thing I found particularly offensive, aside from the atrocious questioning, was, from the standpoint of sitting in the audience, the way CNN producers purposely ginned up the crowd to cheer over and over, as if they were pom-pommed cheerleaders at a high school pep rally. This is a ridiculously immature manner in which to conduct an alleged debate on the nation’s future, but it also interfered with the debate itself, as a bunch of rowdies in the crowd felt empowered to shout over the candidates’ answers. Overall, it was an abysmal performance, but I’ll have more ordered thoughts later in the week. I thought Joe Biden “won” the debate by the way, not that it matters… The loser was Wolf Blitzer.

I agree RR, the only purpose of this debate was to be a DNC infomercial for Hillary. Had the RNC pulled something like this on FOX, the MSM would be screaming that it was an illegal political ploy and they would demand equal time for their candidate, even though the MSM is almost totally devoted to liberal democrat policies. Just another fine example of how the rules apply to conservatives only. No one in the MSM can ‘honestly’ report liberal politics, as only 14% of the country agree with them. The rest of their support is bought and sold through deception, lies, scare tactics, bribery, propaganda and blind stupidity. They consistantly deny conservatives a voice, then have the nevre to call us facists and claim we are against free speech.
In the early 90s the democratic party changed. It became the party of freedom to do anything you wish as long as you agree and vote with us. They lost the ability to debate, or to accept opinions different than their own. Simply expressing an opinion outside the party line would, and still does, result in vicious personal attacks. They are supported by billionaire liberals, Hollywood and the mass media.
This of itself should be enough to silence anyone in support of equal time laws for talk radio.
After all, not one of them will ‘allow’ the other side to be heard, or to challenge them on the issues. In their opinion, truth does not matter, only they know what is best for the people and the people need not know what their true intentions are. I have had many enlightening conversations with liberals here in the DC area. The last thing they will allow you to do is bring truth and facts to the conversation. When you attempt to bring truth and facts in, they will respond with some childish DNC statement like ‘Bush lied’, or some other garbage not even related to the topic of conversation. They do not want to hear anything that disagrees with their rose colored views that have already been proven failures time and time again. One day they will wake up to their socialist shortcomings and simply blame them on Bush, or anyone other than themselves. Oh well :-)

MM thinks the press is easy on Democrats, yet the planted question was bad for them, Clinton in particular.

Lefties like me also complain about the press, particularly its tendency to take Bush spin and Drudge sludge as news. Here’s an example (scroll down to Speaking of Deliberate Obtuseness

December 31, 1998 — Matt Drudge entices guests at The Weekend, a gathering of conservative heavy hitters, by promising a story that will rock official Washington.

January 1, 1999 — Drudge reports a “world exclusive” (not true) headlined, “White House Hit With New DNA Terror; Teen Tested for Clinton Paternity.” Citing the Star magazine, Drudge writes, “Word of the shocking new DNA showdown spread through the ranks inside of the White House on Friday, causing near blind chaos!”

January 2, 1999 — Discussion of the alleged “scandal” on various talk radio stations.

January 3, 1999 — “CLINTON PATERNITY BOMBSHELL,” screams the front page of the New York Post, owned by Murdoch.

Fox TV News — owned by Murdoch’s News Corp. — carries an account of Drudge’s story, claiming he’d broken it on his Fox show and adding that it was being picked up by such mainstream papers as the New York Post.

The New York Daily News leads its Daily Dish gossip column with the headline, “Tab Probes Clinton Love-Child Rumor.”

January 4, 1999 — At a White House press briefing, press secretary Joe Lockhart refuses to comment on the affair. To a question about the president’s resemblance to the Williams boy on the Internet, Lockhart responds, “And I’m an alien space baby.”

The Fox News Web site carries a story on the DNA paternity testing in a bylined story from the Times of London.

The BBC and its Web site run a story, “New sex scandal for Clinton.”

January 5, 1999 — The Hotline, a daily summary of political reporting widely read by Beltway journalists, reports that the affair has become fodder for the late-night talk shows. “Only President Clinton could distract people from a sex scandal with another sex scandal,” Jay Leno says in his monologue.

January 6, 1999 — Drudge reveals that he has seen “a shocking new videotaped confession” by the Arkansas woman, who reveals intimate details about her “relationship” with Clinton. The video was taped by “Hard Copy.”

The Washington Times runs a story, “Media Abuzz With Rumors That Clinton Fathered Boy,” citing only the Star and the Drudge Report. The Times reports that the Star had paid Bobbie Ann Williams a sum “in the low six figures” for her cooperation (which apparently included turning over DNA samples to the Star for testing).

TotalNews.com, a compendium of major media outlets online, links to the Washington Times, BBC and New York Post in its roundup of “Clinton’s Crisis” stories.

There is one hope, provided that they don’t get some kind of dirt on him (and God knows they must be trying like mad, it’s the Clinton way): if Giuliani gets the nod he’s tough enough to talk straight and…. AND… suddenly, out of nowhere, he’ll be saying things to Hillary that even her handlers won’t have prepared her for. Despite all the supposed fawning, I have a feeling that in terms of her support, while the numbers are meaningful, the actual fabric of the support is threadbare. After all, half of the country hates her already.

Still, I hope someday I won’t feel alone saying the following: everyone should start making very loud noises pointing out the democrat candidates cowardice in their refusal debate on the Fox News Channel, because it’s a win-win for conservatives if the noise gets loud enough; Either they feel the pressure to debate on Fox where they get tough questions which is very good for us, or they look not inappropriately like cowards and convince that election-turning five percent that the democrats are not ready to lead because they’re afraid of a simple News Network in their own country, which is also very good for us.
