No tears for Julie Myers
As you may have heard, ICE chief Julie Myers is in trouble over her stupid Halloween costume flap:
Just when it appeared Julie Myers had cleared every hurdle in her quest to officially become the nation’s top immigration official, a dreadlocked wig and a prisoner’s outfit could cost her the job.
Myers, director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ran into trouble earlier this month after she and two other agency managers gave the “most original” costume award to a white employee who came to the agency’s Halloween party dressed as an escaped prisoner with dreadlocks and darkened skin.
The incident drew complaints of racial insensitivity and an apology from Myers. It also cast doubt on whether she’ll get a confirmation vote before the end of the year, when her original appointment expires.
It would be a stunning collapse for Myers, 38, a native of Shawnee, Kan., who worked hard over the past two years to convince skeptical lawmakers that someone with little immigration experience was up to the task of running the government’s second largest investigative force.
With just a few more weeks to go before the end of the session, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has not scheduled a vote on Myers. Spokesman Jim Manley said this week that Reid has “serious concerns” with the nomination and is consulting with other lawmakers about how to proceed.
I can’t say I have much sympathy for Ms. Myers. She didn’t deserve the job in the first place, as I’ve said repeatedly. Even setting aside the Halloween brouhaha, she represents so much of why DHS is a mess. And however much she might have tried to compensate for her inexperience the last two years, she reinforces the perception (and reality) that the White House still doesn’t take immigration enforcement seriously enough.

No tears for her, but this is just silly PC. Tired old lame PC.
Government appointments must be taken seriously. Decades ago (maybe even centuries ago) politicians began using appointments to government post as a reward to their supporters. Unqualified people in high posts are a danger to our Republic. The practice must end. Mr. President, we love our country. Please respect “We the People” by nominating people who are most qualified to man our government.
And criminals who are lactating or not are still criminals. Period.
No tears here either, we need Rambo for the position.

We need real leaders to turn around the Department of Homeland Insecurity. I suggest we fill every position with a veteran. At least GIs have a way of getting things done despite the red tape involved. She will not be missed.
But a senator dressed in a white sheet is okay? Okay, he was in the KKK but, it is in the past. So is October 31st.
She may not deserve the job but if a clansman being a senator is okay with this country I say – lighten up and get a sense of humor.
It’s sobering to consider that bad as Myers is (if George stuck it to the enemies of America to the same degree he does his base, we might actually have a foreign policy worth supporting), President Hillary will effortlessly find someone much worse.

Nope, no way no how do we have the personnel to deport 12 to 20 million illegals. Heck, we can’t even keep up with the 600,000 criminal illegals in the US… buy, hey, we can sure do a Halloween party and costume contest!
If acting as costume judge is an example of how Myers prioritizes her time as ICE Director, it says volumes about her poor judgment.
We need a Patton at the helm of ICE right now, not someone who’s busy blowing up party balloons when there’s a war to be won.
These incompetent people that can’t get a job in the “real” world always try to get a plum job with the government. And why not? They aren’t held accountable most of the time for their failure.

A necessary requirement for the powerful position Myers is trying to get is that you should be able to see inappropriate when it hits you in the face. If the woman is this dense, she really shouldn’t get the job. We need someone tough and able to avoid stupid situations that detract from the ability to do the job well.

IMHO, Ms. Myers was so totally unqualified for the job it borders (no pun intended) on lunacy to have placed her there…I would like to have a nice cushhhh job, flying around the country – appointing my friends to high level jobs, throwing Halloween parties and acting as judge. Sweet! She needs to go and take Chertoff with her.

I’m hoping to see the lid blown off the travesty of our border agents before Christmas. Mr. Davila has no credibility and will drop the dime on Johnny Sutton if he thinks he’s going to jail.
The only thing Meyers has demonstrated during her stint with ICE is that she is woefully underqualified for the job. Had her not been for her having an uncle by the name of General Meyers, she would not have even been looked at for this position.
While the Persident has the power to appoint whomever he chooses, the politics of cronyism needs to be left at the door. How did Ronald Reagan manage to find qualified people?
It certainly makes me wonder how many loads of drugs Davila brought across the border using his DHS visa papers. Johnny Sutton should be in prison, not these two brave Border Patrol agents!

You know your illegal immigration plan is a joke, when the Dems say its weak.
And what imbecilic person or group would take the time to impost their judgment of a Halloween costume contest. They surly must have zero cred. She may not be qualified for her ICE appointment but just line up those of the Bush administration that are qualified to do their job, both of them.
I reject her racism and bigotry, and even if she was good on all other aspects of her job, I would call for her resignation because of the racism.
As a Christ follower, He would ask that men and women in power reject racism stridently where it exists.

She needs to be fired! She is just as bad as that hack we had Doris Meisner. Who, did more harm to the United States than both Clintons combined!
Immigration and Custom Enforcement (I.C.E.) has to be the most useless bunch of federal employees (maybe a few exceptions) we have. They make about 100K a year. These Senior Special Agents think they are secretly undercover drug agents! I guess they never heard of the DEA? These “agents” do not want, do not like nor do they even DO Immigration cases if they can help it!
Local and State police contact them (if they can get a human to answer a phone) about suspected illegals. They tell the police to release the illegals and they will catch them later.
You want to complain about government waste, start with the ICE. These agents try and handle ONLY drug cases or other cases that will get them some INK.
So, I am glad to hear she will be canned. We need that Sheriff from Arizona to be placed in charge of the entir3e DHS, let alone the Immigration side of the house!

1frozenmigra – I’m sure the ICE employees that want to do a good job, strike that – do the job they were hired to do, are demoralized and feel defeated. No company or agency can operate when only half the employees are dedicated to getting the job done. I’m with you on Sheriff Arpaio of AZ. He’d run about half the current management of ICE off down the road.
I could see Arpaio… my first choice was Tancredo, but I could see Arpaio.

‘Calling someone who dresses up in black face a racist is the biggest bunch of PC crap there is. Knock it off all of you. Why is it that everyone takes themselves so serious about race nowadays? Poll after poll shows caucasians as the most tolerant race in the US. Please stop looking for racism where it isn’t.
I think with this incident and the noose incidents around the country, unfortunately racism is alive and well in USA.

The only thing that might save her is plan B: change her party affiliation to a “D”, and call someone “Buckwheat” -guaranteed pass from the Dems and Mainstream Mediacrats.

Well, I am what my handle suggests. I can tell you for a FACT
that ICE agents do NOT like Immigration cases unless they can get some “INK” or TV time. Or, if it is a raid or something they can break out their RAID jackets and leg holsters…..Do you know how many local and state PDs have requested ICE come and interview and or arrest a suspected illegal? Do you know how many illegals that the USBP have called ICE about and to date, ICE has done nothing? These Senior Special Agents are all fluff. Most do not even know how to do an Immigration case. The ones who do, the ones who are the workers, are all (mostly) former Border Patrol agents.
Also, did you know ICE hires people off the street to be investigators? That is like a PD like NYPD getting people straight out of the academy and handing them a Detective Shield and say “You are now in Homicide or Burglary”. These people off the street have zero arrest, zero street time. yet, they head investigations in immigration cases. Hello! The USBP agents should be offered these positions. I mean, they have thousands of arrests. They speak the language of the majority of the illegals and they understand the illegals and how they operate.
So, she should be fired. Most of the DHS should be fired. Most of the upper management of the USBP should be fired (speaking as a private citizen of course.)

Personal time is one thing. Directing a Halloween party (phased out of my local schools, by the way, by Middle School) and costume contest is another. especially when you’re pulling a presidential-size salary while directing a staff of nearly 8,000.
She has command of an army, and is whimpifying the troops. The field agents hate her lack of leadership, but the Democrats love her (until the black face party) because she’s PC. Meanwhile the illegals run wild.
Her Daddy was Joint Chief, her husband works directly for Chertoff, she was totally unqualified for this very important position… exactly the kind of puff appointment assured to not get the job done. What a joke!
T J Green , you are so right. The last big wig female at the INS was Doris Meisner. She was an Open Border zealot BEFORE working for the INS (as Commissioner) and went right back to the FORD Foundation (I think)after the INS. However, she did more to hurt our national security while in power. Did you know she allowed LEGAL visitors from Mexico to be able to travel beyond the 25 mile LIMIT set forth by our laws for those carrying the Border Crossing Card. That means they were and still are as far as I know, able to travel beyond the USBP Checkpoints put in place to help catch illegals and those carrying the BBC from making it north.
We need the Sheriff….The man who has no rules except one, fair and equal treatment to all criminals! ARAPIO for the head of the DHS.
