Thank you Michelle and blessings to you and your family this Thanksgiving.

Ragspierre#16 - Though I've not served in the military, I have spent time chatting with young military personnel at various airports across the country and get all choked up when it's time to say goodbye and wish them well. Your post expresses what many of us feel.

To the rest of the crew, if you're traveling this holiday and pass someone in uniform, smile and acknowledge them.

They may not "need" a thank you, but I'm sure they appreciate the thanks when they know it is sincere. There are a lot of things I may not "need", but I sure like to have, and that goes for more than just material things.

Real warriors don't need a thank you, it is the warrior that gives thanks for the opportunity to go into combat and fight for his country, the United States of America. And don't you ever forget it.

I have 12 people from my squadron in this part of the world. I will spend a good part of tomorrow sending each one a Thanksgiving greeting. We can’t thank them enough for the separation and hardships they experience on our behalf. My wife and I have also spent many Holidays apart due to service related duty and we understand exactly what it feels like. May God bless them and protect them.

In addition to sending a text message of support this Thanksgiving, you can also help support the troops by supporting proven organizations such as Any Soldier, Inc. I've done my part, so please help me help them.

I have tried to make a practice of approaching any uniformed member of the service I see in public, and offering them my hand and a few words of gratitude on behalf of myself and my loved ones.

Sometimes I don't do it, however, and I only make eye contact and exchange a silent communication from one old warrior to a younger one. When that happens, it is because I cannot trust myself to speak. My emotions...my pride in you, my appreciation for your work, your motives, and my desire to say something that gives my emotions justice...are very powerful, and express themselves in tears far too easily.

This holiday, when you are so far from home in your postings around the world...and so distant from those you love and treasure...I cannot imagine sitting down to a feast with my sons and daughters without somehow trying to include you in my own deeply personal thanksgiving.

Thank you, from the depths of my soul, for what you have choosen to do with your time, talent, minds, and blood.

I cannot think of how your own father's heart must swell with pride at having raised someone like you. God bless you all, and thank you.

Thank you for providing the blanket of security that I and my family sleep under at night. May our Father in heaven continue to provide His hedge of protection around you and your fellow brothers and sisters in arms.

"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor . . ."
~George Washington, Oct. 3, 1789 from the first Thanksgiving Proclamation
