Calling all photoshop/graphic artists: “Posterize” the Democrat Party

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 21, 2007 03:16 PM

Want a project for the holidays? Check this out: Arianna Huffington is calling on her minions to design posters that capture their BDS spirit. It’s “A HuffPost Project: Posterizing the Modern GOP.” She hooked up with one Rich Silverstein, the guy who created the “Got Milk?” ad campaign, and came up with three posters “that simply but graphically capture the lunacy of the modern GOP.”

“Silverstein, who as co-chairman of Goodby, Silverstein, and Partners was behind the famous “Got Milk?” ad campaign and the Budweiser frogs, had such a grasp of what makes for effective communication in radio, movies, TV, and online, that I thought he might have some ideas on how to help the Democrats, who continue to struggle with framing an election where they are holding all the cards. He did. When I suggested that he blog about his ideas, he said that since he usually expresses himself best in visual terms, he wanted to see if he could “blog visually.”

The result is three powerful posters that simply but graphically capture the lunacy of the modern GOP. “Here is my thinking,” Silverstein told me, “What if we could TiVo the last six-plus years and play them back – without comment — for the American people, and let them connect the dots? It’s not a pretty picture.” Silverstein’s take away message is uncluttered and direct: “Haven’t we had enough? Democrats ‘08.”

This is what they came up with (full-size versions at HuffPo):

1posters.jpg

So, now it’s your turn. “Posterize the Modern Democrat Party.” Send in your entries, feel free to improve upon the HuffPuffers’ bland design, and I’ll post the best ones.

The winner will get a signed copy of “Unhinged.”

It’s only fitting!

    Slogans:

    “MorOn.org, because we’re liberals”

    “Democrats, brownshirts in action”

“Vote Democrat, Bin Laden is depending on you.”

Image: Christmas tree with condoms and sex toys hanging from the branches. Photo of Bill and Hillary in front.
Message: “Season’sGreetings from the White House, 1993.” (according to Gary Aldrich)

Video: Any part of the FBI undercover tape of John Murtha.
Voice over: “Democrats, the most ethical leadership, EVAH!”

Radio commercial, sung to the popular nursery rhyme:
“This is the way we tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend.
This is the way we tax and spend, we’re Democrats in office.”

For a video montage, I’d clip together video clips of the 1st WTC attack, the Khobar Towers after the bombing, the two embassies in Africa, and the USS Cole with the gaping hole in it’s side. With the final image of the WTC collapsing on 9/11/01.
I’d include this voice over: “Democrats, the trusted name in National Security.”

Video of the fall of Saigon, including the last helo out of the Embassy.
Voice over: “We’re Democrats, you can trust us with Iraq.”

Video of a former soldier or marine speaking: “When Dick Durbin called me and my fellow soldiers and marines Nazis, Gulag camp guards, and associates of Pol Pot, he showed me exactly how the Democrats ‘Support the troops.’”
Fade to the General Betrayus ad.

    How am I doing?

OK, maybe I just have too many brain cells, or maybe I didn’t spend enough years living at home with my mom, but I just plain don’t get it. To what purpose does this really serve? It really does seem like they honestly believe that Bush is still running for President. For all intents and purposes, they appear to be campaigning against him. why else would they continually be bringing up him and all the things that relate to him, including his cabinet? Can they really not see past this administration? Do they really think that the history of this planet begins and ends with George H. Bush Jr.? I mean, it is always an open joke that their sense of history seems to begin with 9-11-01, but this is just plain ridiculous.

Is it worth anyone explaining it to me? Is anything Huffington does worth explaining to anyone? Didn’t she used to have all that alien/New Age/crystal/astrology stuff going on when she was married? Rick Moran, #36, I have to disagree. It’s true the Liberals are running against Bush but that won’t work. Here’s why IMHO, 1, the country is split almost 50%50% RED/BLUE. President Bush will never get higher than 50%, as that is when the Republican base is fully behind him. We need to look at why his numbers (congress for that matter as well)are so low. Is there one issue that comes to mind? If you said “the war”, you would be wrong. It’s the illegal alien issue. America faced the amnesty nightmare 5 times and 5 times we forced them to kill it. The Republican Party suffered greatly as a result of the likes like Gramnesty and Smell Martinez pushing it through. Look at McCant’s numbers, dropped like a lead baloon for supporting amensty. Hillary’s lead slipping over her drivers license debacle. It’s an issue that is sure to shape this race. I’m a big fan of Newt Gingrich and damn sad to see that he didn’t jump in. On his site you can see more of my blogs http://www.newt.org about it and also see the results of Newts American Solutions polls regarding the subject. America is fighting to Regain America. I could be wrong, but I don’t think the democrats can win by bashing Bush. If Jeb was in the race, maybe. The Republican that gets the nod only has to pull a Sarkosy and distance themselves from President Bush and all that dirt will land on the wall and not the candidate. They will need to stick to Victory over defeat on the war for extra cushion. My buddy (he’s in Iraq) emailed me for Thanksgiving and said ALL is WELL and they have turned the corner and can see Iraq coming back on track. That’s bad news for the Liberals. But I ramble on. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. To all posting on MM site as well.

I’m not sure it’ll be so successful. Carter messed up everybody’s life – long waits in gas lines (odd-even days, ask your folks…), interest rates over 20%, things that really angered and worried people (to say nothing of the Iran debacle.) People didn’t forget. But while the deranged hate Bush, other people’s personal lives aren’t in such widespread disarray.

Hillary’s magical act – turning $10,000 into $100,000 almost overnight; making documents disappear; talking plants

    A hammer and a sickle

Side profile of JFK with a circle with slash, with slogan “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country, [insert]ask what your country can do for you

A headstone with “Personal Responsibility” engraved on it

    It’s a start.

These are professional, whiz bang ad guys??

I gotta tell ya, “I’m underwhelmed.”

    Seriously.

It’s sterile. One dimensional. Boring. Much like the democratic front runners, but the republicans are not much better. Are they?

I have the tools & the people to create, albiet, it is more commercial art than madison avenue hype, but I say we should light a candle rather than curse their darkness.

Let me check my bag o’ tricks….

Let’s go back to the old sure fire way to get their candidates elected: “Vote Early, and Vote Often” which has gotten some dems elected in Chicago by the Daley machine in the 1960’s.

In a bid to defeat Democratic president Harry Truman in 1946, Republicans came up with the slogan “To err is Truman.” It fell flat. Then they coined “Had enough?” It took off. Apparently, not enough people felt one way or another about Truman as a bumbler. Lots of people, however, resented Franklin D. Roosevelt for running four times and thought of Truman as “more FDR.” Simple as it was, “Had enough?” made a noise because it plucked a string that was already out there in the American political orchestra.

    Does the above sound familiar?

Silverstein’s take away message is uncluttered and direct: “Haven’t we had enough?Democrats ‘08.”

The Democrat’s can’t even come up with their own slogan’s, they steal them from 1946 Republican slogan’s. LOL
