New Hampshire moves up primary to January 8
I think I know what all the pols and pundits will want for Christmas this year: Wheaties and Red Bull.
Just in from the Boston Globe:
New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner today announced that the Granite State’s first-in-the-nation primary will take place on Jan. 8, the earliest date ever for a primary ballot in a presidential election year.
The much anticipated announcement came a few hours after the Michigan Supreme Court said that state’s Jan. 15 primary can go ahead. Michigan is among many states bringing forward their primaries in the 2008 presidential race with the goal of having more influence.
With the Iowa caucuses set to take place on Jan. 3, the New Hampshire primary will now occur just five days later, compressing the primary schedule to an unprecedented extent. Campaigns are struggling to work out their travel plans and advertising strategies to adjust to the rapidly changing primary schedule.

Hey, while we’re at it, let’s just get a head start on the 2012 primaries, too, and thrown them into the mix in January, ‘08.
This is like the Christmas lights going up in the stores the week before Halloween. Sheesh!
Changing Primary dates, allowing felons to vote, giving motor/voter licenses to illegals, abolishing the Electoral College, narrowly-selected recounts until your guy wins…
Our Nation’s rules are starting to change quicker and more often than Hillary Clinton’s core beliefs.
Better yet let’s pass a law stating that ALL states will hold their national primaries on May 15th and that registration filings to run for a federal office cannot be done prior to January 1st of the year of the election … that gives them 4 1/2 months to present their qualifications and every state has equal influence because they are all voting on the same date … that would lessen the ridiculous amount of time we have to listen to their BS and also reduce dramatically the amount of money spent on these campaigns … you folks do realize that these folks are spending a projected $100 Million dollars each to try to get a job that pays $400,000 a year … even with all the expense money for travel, etc., it only comes to about $570,000 .. in terms of simple logic it makes no fiscal sense at all …

I am already tired of this election and it really hasn’t started yet. I am ready to vote now.
That’s just about the only date they could have it.
That means you’ll have Iowa on 1/3, NH on 1/8, Michigan on 1/15/ and South Carolina and Nevada on 1/19.
Romney is ahead in 3 of those states with Rudy very close in NH and MI.
A word about “the Big Mo.” We’ve never had the early primaries so close to one another so it is impossible to tell what that means as far as momentum that might be generated for a Romney or a Huckabee coming out of Iowa.
Both candidates trail badly in New Hampshire and nationally, Romney is 4th and Huckabee is 5th. Will the Iowa winner get the usual bump in support despite the closeness of the contests?
We’ll have to see…

It means that the states with primaries close behind the first states will enjoy only brief advertising blitzes before the media return to normal. Hallelujah!
To me, the length of the campaign is quite insane, so I humbly submit my suggestions for change here.
The lag time we have in 2008 between the selection and conventions will feature some of the worst mudslinging we’ll ever see, and it’s all so not necessary. I predict the pundits will be wringing their hands next November wondering why turnout was so low, when the answer is the complete burnout on the campaign the average voter will have. Here in Maryland we may do a little better because of two hot ballot issues (legalizing slot machines and adopting early voting) but nationally people will likely skip the process and that’s a crying shame.

This backward crawl of the primaries will effectively shorten the next president’s term by forcing the campaigns to begin in early 2011. In other words, the sitting POTUS will have to stop governing and start campaigning halfway through his term.
On the other hand, earlier primaries would justify holding an earlier general election. I propose a constitutional amendment that all Federal elections be held on April 15.

Is it the day after election day–the general, not the primaries–yet?? I’m sick of all the selfish political pandering stuff by the candidates and their parties NOW. I may have to try to get deployed overseas somewhere in the next few months to escape.
The rule we should implement is that nobody can run until the actual year of the election (for a regular November election).
Vermont should be the same day as New Hampshire, but I’m not sure why.
I am looking forward to a December Meltdown, whose campaigns are going to make it through ???? Whose campaigns are in trouble but the MSM, has been covering their collective tails? Whose going to be left standing, when the dust clears, these political folks are getting their knives out. Be careful what you ask for Christmas. GAME ON!
I would like to pose a question …
There is a strong probability that the candidates for the general election will be selected by sometime in February … so what happens immediately after that …
They can not qualify for nor receive any federal election matching funds until after their conventions because that is when they are officially named as their party’s candidate …
So …
Does that mean we might get a lull in the BS ads and such until after the conventions in the summer? …
These idiots kept pushing these dates up as a means of keeping their Bush bashing on the front pages of the MSM … that isn’t working because we are winning in Iraq … and the word is getting out despite their efforts to keep that from happening …
So …
It made me wonder if they have even taken into consideration what they are going to do between these ridiculously early primaries and the conventions …

This is a freaking waste of our time. I am sick of all these liars (especially the Democrat liars) and criminals (especially the Democrat criminals). All these date changes are making a mockery of a system that has already earned the disdain of intelligent Americans.
As far as the conventions go, they are nothing but a useless charade (for both sides). They are scripted, predictable, boring, and useless. So don’t have conventions and have the primaries at reasonable and traditional intervals.
