Taliban apologist Yvonne Ridley speaks at UC Irvine

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 23, 2007 10:50 PM

Useless idiot alert

Via Jonathan at Red County/OC Blog, Yvonne Ridley, the far, far left-wing British journalist who was kidnapped by the Taliban in 2001, converted to Islam after her release, and has been on the jihadi apologist speaking circuit ever since, gave a pro-Taliban lecture at UC Irvine earlier this month. Watch as this dangerous dhimmi, who calls the Koran a “magna carta for women”, defended terrorist leader Abu al Zarqawi, and celebrated Chechen jihadist/Beslan massacre mastermind Shamil Basayev as a “shaheed,” entertains Muslim students with tales of stupid Westerners who just don’t understand her Taliban brothers and sisters:

In my opinion Yvonne Ridley should be charged with treason for siding with the enemy in a time of war. When will people wake up and see that Islam is the real enemy. Terrorism is only a tactic that they use to fight. I hope president Bush and the other world leaders don’t really think they can stop islamic terrorism without first putting islam in its place. If they truly think islam is a religion of peace, contrary to what we see happening every day, then they need to be replaced by people who are grounded in reality.

The only real hope we have is that the Jihadists will start attacking the Left. They will at some point, of course, since we are all infidels, but it may be far too late when it happens.

While I find WWII analogies weak and unpersuasive, it is instructive to recall that until June 21, 1941, the Nazi-Soviet defacto alliance was kicking the West’s collective butt real bad. And with the full support of the Left. In fact, had the alliance held, and Hitler sent his armies through the middle-East to India to link up with the Japanese before finally striking against Russia, there is no doubt who would have won. Hitler’s error meant that the Left and all the progressive types — for the duration of the war only — were then behind the Western democracies.

The Left is more dominant in our culture than ever before. Unfortunately, the Jihadists know this (they would have to be incredibly stupid not to have noticed) so the odds of them attacking the Left (e.g. nuking Washington D.C. while President-for-life Clinton and her Democrat Congress are gleefully destroying what is left of the country) are remote. One can dream, however.

You brought up a good example, beenthere. Hitler had no intention of honoring the “agreement” with Stalin, from the beginning. It was simply a means of protecting his East while he dealt with the West. However, Stalin (the Left) thought the agreement was binding and would be honored. Sounds like the left today. On 6/22/41 Hitler invaded a wholly unprepared country, even when the signs were obvious. Stalin even jailed anyone who tried to alert the Soviets of impending invasion. He also instructed the border troops not to fire (provoke) the Germans, even if they fired at them. Same thing today with the Left and the terrorists. Be nice to them and they will be nice to us. Then bury our heads in the sand, and hope they go away. As history always shows, what has happened before, will happen again, if ignored.

Saturday Morning Greetings Mrs. Malkin and loyal community. The piece on the guest speaker at UC Irvine illustrates a sad individual cut from the same bolt of cloth as the “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh. Both serve to illustrate the coming consequences of the moral bankruptcy of substituting the pursuit of pleasure for the pursuit of happiness. When in consonance with the former, individuals deny themselves the necessary spiritual sustenance offered in the Sermon on the Mount. Such persons are then quite vulnerable to whatever virus comes along, be it Islamism, Marxism, Eco-freak-ism, or what have you. The systems of higher education in all of the “advanced” countries are philosophically grounded in such denial, so the products thereof are necessarily at risk unless otherwise cared for. Aware, careful parents will see to it that their children are as spiritually and philosophically prepared for “higher education” as they are academically and financially. Indeed, this hold true for high school as well!

lgm, you quote only a fraction of the scripture found in Ephesians. The full text is below. It’s really disturbing how you cherry pick the Bible to make it out as something evil, used to dominate women, and compare it to the Koran, which tells men it’s their duty to beat their wives into submission and see no difference. And as you can see, the husband has a duty to his wife as well, but I guess you missed that part.

“Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

This is not the modern American view of a woman’s place. Women and men are equal in marriage. They have the same rights and responsibilities. If most American Christians have evolved beyond a literal interpretation of their scriptures, American Muslims can too.

The Taliban were a scattered bunch of tribesman during the Soviet occupation. They were eventually funded and trained by the Pakistani ISI in the early 1990’s, long after Reagan left office.

As for Reagan “supporting” Bin Laden, Osama bought most of his own arms with his own money and spurned the help of the CIA in the 1980’s. There is no credible evidence linking Bin Laden and the CIA – ever.

My wife and I are Christians and we live this principle, but it never means that my wife falls over herself to please me “no matter what”. It’s not about me always telling her what to do, being right, or repressing her, and it’s most certainly not about me being smarter! It is about loving each other enough to know that someone has to, ultimately, accept, responsibility for how our family functions. lgm, this has absolutely nothing to do with the view of the American woman’s place, it has everything to
do with how much husbands should love their wives and respect them as partners in this thing called life. I love my wife as much as Christ loves His church, and am willing to die for her.

Just because the mujahideen and the taliban have some elements in common, does not mean they share the same identity.

They didn’t target Russian civilians in Afganistan because there weren’t any.

Shamil Basayev didn’t target russian civilians in Chechnya either. He targeted them in Russia.

    They certainly targeted Afgan civilians.

To what end would they do so?

The focus of the covert US intervention was to supply arms and training to a cadre dedicated to defeating the Soviet army and driving them out of Afghanistan. Civilian massacres did not further this goal.

The provision of advanced technology and tactical support did. The Stinger missle, an anti-aircraft weapon, was one of the decisive weapons of the Soviet-Afghan War, and as far as I know, afghan civilians generally don’t fly helicopter gunships.

And don’t forget the Contras who had no qualms about killing civilians.

The contras were targeting civilians? This was proved unequivocably, according to which unbiased source?

    Human Rights Watch?

The communist Sandinista government was a greater human rights violator than the Contras ever were.

    Regarding the Sandinista-Contra War:

Many American Indians know how bad the Sandinistas were.

I’ve met quite a few members of the American Indian Movement. Some of my own family belonged to AIM at one time or another.

One AIM leader used to come to the sweat lodge in my mother’s backyard. When his people heard that the Miskito Indians were being murdered by the Nicaraguan communists, AIM soldiers went down to Nicaragua and murdered them back.

I honor them, and the fact that they killed communists in defense of the Indian community means AIM will generally get the benefit of the doubt in my book.
