Is Paris burning again?

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 25, 2007 07:52 PM

Nidra Poller at PJM reports on another outbreak of fires in Paris fueled by the “youths” again in the banlieue :

Fires are raging in the banlieue tonight. Two boys aged 15 and 16 riding on a mini-motorcycle (prohibited on the road) hit a police car this afternoon in Villiers-le-Bel. The boys, who weren’t wearing helmets, were killed. Hundreds of enraged men and boys are tearing up the neighborhood.

Le Parisien reports that they burned down a Peugeot dealership, sacked a train station and shops, tore up a McDonald’s, stole the day’s receipts and attacked customers, smashed and burned cars, and are still going strong. A police commissioner who tried to talk to the mob was attacked with iron rods; his face and skull are fractured. A police station was burned down, seven policemen were injured.

    Do not tase me, m’sieur!

The French leader vowed before his election in May to buy a Taser — which paralyses targets — for every policeman and gendarme in France which could provide a market for at least 300,000 guns alone.

I’d say the sooner they get tasers, the better! This figures, though…

On Friday, the UN Committee said the stun gun “causes acute pain, constituting a form of torture”.

So, someone broke the law, a tragic accident happens and the response is to burn Paris? That’s just not right. May God help them all.

Why 112 cars are burning every day
A year after the Paris riots violence and despair continue to grip the immigrant suburbs

    By Charles Bremner
FLAMES lick around a burning car on a tiny telephone screen. Omar, 17, a veteran of France’s suburban riots, replayed the sequence with pride. “It was great. We did lots of them and then we went out and torched more the next day.”

Omar, whose parents immigrated from Mali, was savouring memories of the revolt that erupted 12 months ago from his home, the Chêne Pointu estate in Clichy-sous-Bois, in the eastern outskirts of Paris. “We’re ready for it again. In fact it hasn’t stopped,” he added.

Brooklyn Red - If we’re going to choose something to fight a war for, I’d go for French Wine. I was in St. Etienne, Marseille, and Paris (Corsica thrown in for a few days as well) in September/October and didn’t see any of the unrest that has bracketed that period. I live in Asia, with many French friends, and they feel very much the same as I do about the problems with France.

Rick Moran (#4) is correct: I lived for about six months in a Paris banlieue (Garges-les-Gonesses) and there are immigrants from many ex-French colonies, both muslim and catholic (although mostly these thugs are not particularly religious to begin with).

The problem here is not some kind of muslim uprising, its much simpler than that, which means that the solution is simple too and I’m hoping that Sarkozy will implement it: i.e., they are unemployed thugs who dabble in drug dealing, petty crime, and mindless vandalism. Solution: tougher and longer jail sentences, and automatic deportation for non-EU nationals.

Since Sarkozy came into power it would seem that he is acting on this so far (19,000 deportations since he was elected) so I am cautiously optimistic that undesirables will be dealt with accordingly from now on. They won’t be able to riot when large numbers of them are locked up or back in their original countries.

Indeed, the Bastille is no longer around, but France retains two overseas territories that used to be penal colonies (New Caledonia in the South Pacific and French Guyana in South America - the latter being the site of the infamous Devil’s Island).

Unfortunately if France were to decide to reinstate them as such it would probably be met with howls of protests from liberals.

So you can’t shoot criminals, you can’t strong arm them into submission, and you can’t taser them.

Apparently, liberals believe violent criminals have more rights than the innocent citizens they terrorize - who, according to liberal ideology, cannot defend themselves because private gun ownership rights must be outlawed, too!
