Annapolis folly: Protest photo of the day
Rallies and counter-rallies continue tomorrow in front of the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Andy McCarthy calls the folly a farce:
The thug Assad regime of Syria will apparently take a couple of days off from murdering Lebanese democrats and enabling the anti-American jihad in Iraq to attend this week’s Annapolis summit … or “conference,” or “meeting.” It’s difficult to say how we should describe Condoleezza Rice’s pie-in-the-sky confab. After all, the main principals — an Israeli prime minister hanging on by a thread and a Palestinian “president” whose only constituency seems to be the U.S. State Department — cannot even agree on what to call it, much less on an agenda.
I’m going with “farce.”
Buried in Annapolis will be the last shards of the Bush Doctrine, the blunt marker the president once put down to signal a do-or-die choice for jihadist nations. Are you with us, he asked, or with the terrorists?
The Assads’ answer has always been plain: They are with the terrorists. Any terrorists. Saddam Hussein, Hamas, Hezbollah and, behind it all, Iran. Shiite or Sunni, national, sub-national, or transnational — it matters not, so long as the terrorizers in question oppose the United States while working toward Israel’s demise.
Say it again: You can’t make peace with those who want to kill you.

Right, You can’t make peace with those who want to kill you.
Oh man, I was hoping for another moonbat with a Mercedes logo sign!
Anyway, what’s up with this? We’ve got this mess in Annapolis, and Bush posing with Gore (who accused Bush of treason) at the WH? What a joke.
Their “efforts” remind me of a faux news alert from 500 years in the future: Man Colonizes Mars; Cancer eradicated; Violence Breaks Out in the Middle East. The islamofascists hatred will never abate (or at least not in my lifetime).
There’s a very good article over at “American Thinker” by James Lewis that has an interesting take on the subject. Worth going over to read it.
If a smile and a polite request was all that was necessary to combat evil and sustain peace, there would be no evil and this “farce” wouldn’t be necessary in the first place.
The sign the lady in the picture is holding says it all.
Arafat got 95% of everything he wanted at Oslo and still called an infitada.
Terrorists, like liberals, consider compromise as doing everything they want. What terrorists, like liberals, truly want is the end of Israel.
OT – maybe.
We were in Wilmington, NC this weekend and there were some protestors on a certain street corner with their signs:
“END THE WAR”
I did not have my camera so I missed the shot of the week:
“VICTORY IN IRAQ MEANS ENDLESS SUFFERING”
I thought to myself:
.oO(for the dimocraps?)
What part of that do “they” not understand?
Dry Bones Blog has a good cartoon today. It says that
they are asking for a panful of concessions from
Israel for the discussion in Annapolis. The other person says, sounds right. The original speaker says,
“from inside Israel?”
With Olmert for a leader, Israel is in real trouble.
When the “peace process” gets ramped up toward the end of an administration, it usually means that the Saudis and other Gulf sheikhdoms are getting ready to hand out perks to the politicians and diplomats. Jimmy Carter, Bush the Elder and Slick Willy are all on the gravy train.
Perhaps a little off target.
I voted for Bush but the job is far to big for him. The people he appointed, Rice, Gonzales, you name them, prove it very clearly.
Israel would have been wise to stay away from this farce.
I’m sure the crab cakes will be good.
That lady’s sign says in slightly fewer words what Ron Silver posted in his 11/15 piece on his PJM column Silver Bullet:
So glad to see something so rational from someone out of Hollywood.
Ditto!!!!
But you can make those who want to kill you rest in peace.
At least Condi is trying. It boggles the mind that it’s taken 6 years after 9/11 for us to approach this issue.
Seems as though the jihadist are among the few who will talk to the Decider.
Well we have to have one more agreement to break for the middle east. Bush has not learned from history. Since some of the muslim brotherhood seem reluctant to have a shake hands with Israelis, why not a fist shaking ceremony?
Someone it making a lame attempt at a positive legacy, but I say it’s far too little and too late.
The truly farcical aspect, I think, is that Bush knows full well that neither he nor anyone else can make peace with those that want to kill us. This is certainly the reason he has not attempted an Annapolis these 6 years and also the reason why his military pressure on the Taliban and the Ba’athists has been unrelenting in the same time period. Clearly, if we can see that using Iraq as a terrorist roach motel is our only really effective option, then we must also know that Israel has about the same options with Palestine and Syria (aka, Iran II).
What if the Palestinian Conflict could be resolved through 70s music, primarily disco?
The musical “Burn Gaza Burn, Disco Inferno,” would start out with Thelma Houston belting out her hit.
“Baby…my hurt is burning like a Ketushah Rocket for you.”
Then as everything failed, 3 Dog Night’s “Old Fashioned Love Song” would be lampooned.
“It’s just an old fashioned death song…whether it’s Hamas or it’s Fatah…it’s just an old fashioned death song…Nothing’s changed since Oslo ‘93.”
Those who do not learn from history, blah etc blah etc…
Respectfully,
eric
