Public Displays of Clinton Affection

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 26, 2007 09:02 AM

Check out my special column in the NYPost on Team Hillary journalism professor Carole Simpson:

Hide your children! Another journalist is engaging in PDCA - Public Display of Clinton Affection.

Not since 1998 - when women’s magazine writer Nina Burleigh told The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz that she’d be happy to give President Bill Clinton oral sex to “thank him for keeping abortion legal” - have we seen such open and obsequious Clinton worship as ex-ABC newswoman Carole Simpson gave to Hillary last month.

At a Clinton campaign stop in New Hampshire, Simpson stood up and declared: “I want to tell you tonight, because I happen to be here with my students, that I endorse you for president of the United States. It’s very freeing now that I’m not a journalist and I can speak my mind. I think you are the woman, and I think this is the time.” The crowd erupted in applause.

Sen. Clinton immediately issued a press release about the “eloquent,” unsolicited endorsement and featured the audio clip of Simpson’s grandstanding on her campaign Web site.

Geez, Professor Simpson, get a room already.

Yes, Professor Simpson. You see, Simpson felt free to gush because she’s “not a journalist” anymore. But, as a faculty member at Emerson College’s School of Communications in Boston, she is training the next generation of Serious Media Professionals.

Weeks after joining the Hillary bandwagon, Simpson admitted to The Boston Globe that she “made a mistake.” But there will be no repercussions. Despite telling BlackAmericaWeb.com earlier this year that “I still think of myself as a reporter who is now teaching about reporting,” Simpson is now “considering an offer from the Clinton campaign to stump for the candidate” in front of black Southern audiences. In exchange, the college asked her not to teach “political journalism courses.”

But what journalism lessons wouldn’t be political in Simpson’s hands? “I anchored for 15 years,” Simpson snorted, “and I defy anyone to have determined my political feelings from that.” Oh, Professor Simpson, you make this too easy…

With Oprah headed across America to campaign for Barack Obama, look for Carole Simpson to start stumping for her beloved Hillary.

Can the journalism profession get any more nakedly biased?

I don’t know which is more vomit-inducing: a main stream media type claiming to be an objective journalist/editorialist who professes that after examining all the issues and giving careful consideration to all of the candidates positions, supports (fill in the name), the Democrat (usually accompanied by a look of concern like they were passing a watermelon); or the one who comes out of the liberal closet and confesses their biased predilections.

You already know the answer to that question, Michelle, so I assume you’re asking it in the rhetorical sense.

Of course they’re going to become more biased. And soon. Does anyone seriously doubt this? Especially once the Republicans identify their presidential nominee, the “mainstream” media libs will go into open, full-throttle “Drag-Hillary-across-the-finish-line” mode that will make Simpson’s lack of professionalism seem like a drop in a rainstorm.

Unfortunately, when it comes to media bias, the left can only see Fox News in that category and haven’t looked in a mirror for decades.

I get the feeling that fair minded people could document scores of times when Ms. Simpson yapped her biased trap, or wore her politics on her face, and she would still stoically reply, “I defy anyone to have determined my political feelings from that.”

Sort of the liberal version of, “I know you are but what am I?”

While the officially unbiased media (newspapers excluding the Washington Times, Wall Street Journal, NY Post, TV excluding FOX) have to remain unbiased, the officially biased media is openly Republican.

The MSM has a strong pro Republican bias in the way it covers issues. By pretending to be even handed - quoting people on both sides of an issue - they in fact fail to perform their function, which is to give the facts.

For example, one person says Social Security is about to collapse and someone else says it’s good for a while. The MSM invariably fails to report who is correct, which in this case would mean simply quoting official statistics and projections.

If Carole Simpson seriously wants to challenge people to find bias in her reportage, would somebody please find and put on youtube the infamous “interview” with President Bill Clinton in which Simpson genuflects to Mr. Clinton in such a cloying way that it nuaseated even liberal journalism professors. Ms. Simpson loved Mr. Clinton almost as much as she loves herself. After genuflecting to Mr. Clinton, Simpson then begins babbling about herself and how both she and Mr. Clinton grew up amid the worst poverty imaginable yet both became such great successes. Ms. Simpson reaches the heights of self-absorption when she looks dewy eyed into the eyes of the President of the United States and says: “How does it feel interviewing me?”. Mr. Clinton even seems embarrassed by this public display of selfabsorption. All he can say is: “It’s a great country”.
Carole Simpson reminded me of the character on the Seinfeld episode who keeps calling himself “Jimmy”.

IMHO, with Oprah supporting BO, it will be hard for Shrillary to win. I mean, all Oprah has to do is say vote for BO and she will have hundreds of thousands (not hundreds AND thousands) of women doing as she asks just because. Just look at what happens when Oprah endorses a book.

Who is Carole Simpson anyhow? Every woman on earth knows who Oprah is.

How does not presenting the facts indicate a pro-Republican bias? 8 out 10 MSM reporters are Democrats. They vote and donate to Democrats. Where does that pro-Republican bias come from? Perhaps a better explanation would be they aren’t as far left as you.

Shouldn’t Carole Simpson be able to endorse whomever she wants? She’s not an active journalist on the news every week, and even if she was so long as she recused herself from covering the election it would be fine. Are we now advocating that people in certain professions can’t make their feelings public on something as big as a presidential election?

First of all, stop parroting the talking points you find on liberal blogs. We can read them ourselves thank you.

Second, the idea that “almost all of Fox” is behind Rudy is absurd on its face. The Weekly Standard crew of Kristol and Barnes may be obvious about their support but I find no inherent bias FOR Rudy in their coverage.

He’s the frontrunner so he’s going to get a lot of coverage anyway. Plus, the idea that Murdoch or Ailes are actually reaching down to the reporter level and telling these guys what to write and say is ludicrous. It plays into the ridiculous “corporate media” narrative of the left and is just silly.
