Every time Muslims do this kind of “moral outrage” crap around the world (which is frequently), it makes it a little bit harder to give the benefit of the doubt to any muslim I meet, to believe that there is a difference between islamofascists and other muslims, or to think that muslims can live in peace with any other people on the planet, and if it a question of them or us, the choice is very obvious. A powerful Sudanese newspaper urged authorities to call a hardline Islamist leader linked to Osama bin Laden to give evidence at her trial, to stress how offensive the case was to Muslims.

Extreme Islamic groups said Mrs Gibbons “must die” and urged Muslims to hold street protests after prayers tomorrow. …

Speakers took turns to denounce Mrs Gibbons, brandishing a newspaper bearing her photograph. A stateinment circulated by members of the Muslim Brotherhood – a multinational Sunni Islamist movement and the world’s most influential political Islamist group – also condemned her actions.

“We want to express our boiling anger and deep sorrow about this case caused by this British teacher,” it said.

“We want to tell you that the majority of Sudanese are Muslims so we love our Prophet Mohammed so much and we decry this careless way of dealing with our beloved Prophet.”

One of its authors, 27-year- old Elsheikh El Nour, added: “If she made an innocent mistake and did not mean Mohammed the Prophet (when naming the bear) there is no problem.

“But if she did mean Mohammed the Prophet, she must die.”

Thankfully, a few Muslim groups are condemning Sudan:

“This is disgraceful and defies common sense,” said Secretary-General Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari. “There was clearly no intention on the part of the teacher to deliberately insult the Islamic faith.

The article says she should know her fate today, and says she faces three charges – insulting Islam, inciting religious hatred and contempt for religious beliefs – and EACH carries a maximum penalty of 40 lashes and a year in prison.

Pray for Ms. Gibbons. She’s in serious, serious trouble.

Geek that I am, the unfortunate situation of Gillian Gibbons reminds me of the first season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called “Justice” where Wesley Crusher is sentenced to death for falling in a flower bed….

Also, I would say that this woman did not incite violence. It is, in fact, the Imams who did. Had they did nothing and never brought this forward, no one would have known and thus no vilence would have occured. If they proceed, there will be lashings which are, by definition, a violent act which they are guilty of. She is not guilty of naming the teddy bears, a universal symbol of love, softness, caring and peace, after their false profit. It was the children who named the bears. Thus, she is falsly accused, and thus should not be in this predicament. This is a travesty I tell you. A travesty that is once again being brought to you by that minority of thugs holding the world hostage. Once again, calling for violence and protests on Friday after prayers…traditionally a time when people feel closer to God and at peace. Not this minority. Nope, they are ready to roll and ready to plunder, pillage, burn and rape. All they need is one minor perceived infraction…doesn’t even need to be an actual event, and they are off.

I say send the bears. Sign them up for the Teddy Bear of the Month Club. Give them a reminder every month. I would be willing to bet that you can find a bear there that is actually named Mohammed. Now wouldn’t that be a kick in the backside.
