Buh-bye, Whoopi: Another failed liberal talk radio venture
Just weeks after claiming she would reshape her faltering radio program to focus on a New York City audience, Whoopi Goldberg has now been cancelled even there.
According to press and trade reports today, Wake Up With Whoopi was yanked from WKTU-FM today without warning, other than a brief note sent to staffers mere hours before the change. Poor ratings were cited by the station.
Recently, after similar results led to terminations in Chicago and Philly, your Radio Equalizer speculated that Whoopi’s radio days appeared numbered. Now, one can easily expect the syndicated program to be shut down, perhaps in the next few days.

liberal radio… what a concept? they keep losing, why oh why? According to them mainstreet america really is NOT conservative, oh really? if there was a market for liberal radio it would be just as successful as conservative radio.
I am afraid that because they do not have an audience, they believe they have to force an audience through the fairness doctrine.

Also, liberals have pretty much any media source biased in their favor - especially television and newspapers. The glut of liberal-leaning news sources means they don’t need talk radio as an outlet. So they don’t listen, and it fails.

Whoopi is the most dangerous kind of liberal: the “non-nutroots” kind. She spews the same venom, she believes and propagates the same lies.
But she’s not shrill. She tends to be soft-spoken, even when she’s cursing a blue streak or being inappropriate. To the liberal elite this is all it takes to be considered cultured and educated. It gives her credibility that her words and actions don’t merit.
It allows her lies to be considered “more truthful.”
Al Franken is effective when he is acting the same way. When he’s being glib and funny and not losing his cool, liberals credit him with being a genius.
Fortunately for us, he can’t repress his inner sociopathic behavior and he erupts more regularly (and more violently) than Old Faithful. The real Al is exposed time and again as a nut.
Whoopi rarely comes across that way, even when her words are hateful and/or stupid (like wanting a menage a trois with the Pelosi’s - how coarse and ignorant to mention that on TV).
Happily, Whoopi’s low-toned approach is also very good at putting people to sleep. As a radio personality I can’t see how she ever had a chance…

The Left defines itself through a short list of mindless talking points and by being “against” various and sundry. These sources are quickly depleted, leaving an inherent intellectual vacuum. There is nothing of substance to sustain interest or dialog, and there are only so many ways to say, “Bush is evil.” Even die-hard true believers will wander away eventually, and the remainder of the public won’t ever bother because it’s all been said before.
Why work when you can collect checks from the government? After all, the world owes them a living.

You are definitely right about why liberal talk radio fails. They don’t need it. For example, if you are a lib in Washington, you have ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, the Washington Post, PBS to get liberal opinions from (under the guise of “news”), plus Hollywood, the public schools, and universities. There is no need for liberal radio. The liberal hosts can’t say anything that is not already being reported and advocated everywhere else.
It seems Michelle closed the comments for the CNN plants because of the Drudge link. Knowingly placing plants in a Republican primary debate is a huge ethical lapse, and this ranks up there with the Dan Rather fiasco. Republican debates are for REPUBLICAN voters, and Democratic debates for DEMOCRATIC voters. To have a liberal Democrat pose as a Republican and ask questions and for CNN to know this. . .well, that is why liberals don’t need talk radio.

I think it is how ugly they are spiritually that comes out in their countenance. I mean, if you have had 20 abortions, you are for partial birth abortion, you are for destroying Western Civilization, want to get rid of God in every sphere of public life, you have no morals, you hate capitalism except for yourself, etc. . .the ugliness and bitterness of your soul is going to appear somehow. Look at Whoopi’s picture. Am also reminded of how socialist men, like Hugo Chavez, are so often extremely short and fat and have to grow beards like Fidel Castro and liberal “intellectuals” do to appear more enlightened than how stupid they actually are. Her real name is Caryn Johnson. I actually like her as an actress, especially as Guinan in Star Trek. So, if she and other entertainers would follow Laura Ingraham’s advice and just “Shut Up and Sing”, they wouldn’t keep crashing and burning like this. The fact that she’s one of only a few to have won an Oscar, Emmy, Tony, and Grammy shows she’s found her niche, as an entertainer, so just shut up and entertain me.

What is it about liberal Hollywood actors that makes them believe that, because they may have good looks (not all, but obviously some), can speak a scripted line (only stage actors have to be able to memorize lines), and emote fake emotions, they actually have any intelligent things to say about political, social, or economic topics? From Sheen to Penn, Clooney to Goldberg, Robbins to Franken (the list at times seems endless), attempts by liberal actors to morph into savvy political commentators fail with such certainty as to be in a class with death and taxes (they probably like being joined with the latter).

Truth be told, I didn’t hear much political discourse during that month, but maybe she entered on tiptoe and then let it rip later.

Why doesn’t Liberal Radio work? because no one, not even Liberals wants to listen to that much hate, lies, whining and gloom and doom based on nothing but fear and conjecture. this is the difference between Liberal Radio and Conservative Radio. Conservative Radio has an upbeat message of hope, of getting things done, of accepting responsibility for your actions, of anyone can succeed if they apply themselves. It makes people want to listen because it motivates them. Contrast that to any Liberal station and the results are painfully obvious.
So long Whoopie. Now we have one less place to hear about where you have your Bush.
What a shock….no Whoopi!…too bad…she’s so entertaining. I’ve never really understood her popularity in the past. She’s not a funny comedian, her acting is marginal, although I did enjoy that nun movie she made (the first one). It seems that liberal talk radio can’t really thrive in an atmosphere of audio only. You need to keep people’s interest and with now “moving pictures” liberals can’t stay focused for very long. Just recently, a liberal station in San Diego, 1360AM…moved from Air America to sports talk….now I can’t find Randi Rhodes anywhere on my dial…I guess I’ll learn to live with that…

Lefty radio has no chance because liberals have NPR, courtesy of taxpayers, including high production values, skilled reporters and talkers, big syndication, a measure of decorum that prevents constant, crude spinning, plus some non-political programming. Opera, anyone?
So, Franken and Whoopi were dead on Day 1. Their potential market space is long and well occupied by taxpayer-subsidized lefty radio.
Should taxpayers carry NPR? Of course not. People who don’t listen to NPR shouldn’t pay for somebody else’s radio. Why not raise Pelosi’s taxes and give the money to my favorite country/western station? No? Features on coffee-growing coops in the Third World, that’s a public need? But not Salem news, not Paul Harvey, not Laura?
As long as NPR is around as a taxpayer charity case, out-there leftwing investors who want “real” liberal radio can stop wasting their money. Nobody wins a competitive fight with Congress. Washington prints money. You have to earn it.

Whoopi started using the line herself NNH. Bernard McGuirk was quoting from a Spike Lee movie “Skool Daze” for the schtick, they wanted to draw attention to Collegiate Lady’s Basketball (There is a Youtube of the genesis of the idea.) Spike Lee didn’t thank Bernie for plugging his lame movie either
Al Roker thought Imus was just to insensitive and it was wrong to make a joke about these young women..Al Roker would turn around and make fun of epileptics on the Today Show.

But as a talk show host, I realized how sadly unqualified she is.
All it took was her explanation of Michael Vick on the View. I needed no more evidence of her silly ignorance, especially as she presented it as fact and deep revelation.

She said that Vick grew up in the deep south.
He’s from Virginia.
Last time I checked, Virginia was in the northeast.

I have not liked whoopi for a long time. I think she’s rude and refuses to deal with facts. I have real issues with people who will not listen to facts but will go off of ignorant beliefs. How that show even makes it, I dunno. Every time I’ve even tried to turn it on to see a certain guest I liked, I’ve felt dumber. If the show gets yanked, I won’t be sad that is for sure.
Liberal talk radio fails because it has all been said. It’s been said by NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, almost every newspaper and news magazine. The Frankens and Goldbergs can do is say what what the MSM has already said, but add malice and wit - or what passes for wit in the liberal universe.
The market for Whoopi-type talk is saturated. All she does is duplicate what the NYT, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, et.al. are already doing. Stimulate hatred for anyone not to the left of George McGovern, drop snide remarks at every opportunity, snipe at President Bush and conservatives, and belittle (cunningly) those of us with religious values. Hmmm. What could be more anti-American than Whoopi and pals?
