You don’t. You kill them. I know that sounds crude, but it is true. Any honest psychologist will tell you that some people can’t be “fixed” to live in a law abiding, peaceful society. That is true with the prison population and radical terrorist types.

Think about it from the point of negotiations:

West wants: trade, peaceful existence, high standard of living

Radical Islam wants: Everyone who is not Muslim dead or enslaved

Let’s start negotiating:

Us: Ok, we will provide you with modern medicines and health services for your children.

Them: Ok, we want you to die.

Us: Well, how about we throw in free trade and we will allocate billions of dollars to build infrastructure and industry in your countries so that your people will be gainfully employed, be part of the world economy, and enjoy the same standard of living as the west, ie good sanitation, potable water, electricity and telecommunications.

Them: Ok. Now we want you to all die.

Where is there even a point to begin a negotiation? If someone wants you dead no matter what you offer them, you can’t co-exist with that. If you give them anything they will only use it to improve their ability to kill you. And you can’t bomb them back into the stone age because most of them already live at about that standard of living. You have to kill the provocateurs and their willing soldiers. Then the unwilling soldiers, those who follow because they have no other alternative or because they were coerced into it are free to be redeemed socially and live a productive free life with everyone else. It is the same with terrorists, gangs and dictatorships.

This is why the War on Terror Islamofascism is so very important. It is also why it is very important that we kill them over there rather than here. What we are seeing in Anbar and other places is that we are killing off the leaders and most radical followers which allows those coerced into fighting to have real alternatives. It is not by any case that everyone in the Middle East wants us dead or that all Muslims want us dead. It is a case that a significant number of radical leaders and willing soldiers do and they have enough influence to intimidate others to follow them or die themselves.

Does anyone really think that we rolled over the Iraqi army ONLY because we were that much better? If they had all stood their ground and fought us like the Russians fought the Wehrmacht I’m not sure the public would have had the stomach for what we would have had to do to win. The fact is that many of the Iraqi soldiers just didn’t fight. I think that had to do as much with psychology as overwhelming force. I don’t think many of them wanted to fight for Saddam Hussein. When they realized that we were going to really take him out this time, they were good with stepping aside and letting us do it. I do not intend to diminish the bravery or ability of our armed forces, I’m just pointing out that we could have had a much tougher fight on our hands.

We have to be committed to killing the leadership – the radical Imams and their most loyal followers. Al-Sadr should have been sniped years go as should anyone stepping into his place. Yes you will create a power vacuum for a time, but during the lull, if you can convince the population that we will continue to destroy any radical leadership, only the most radical will stay loyal. And those you can identify and kill as well. It takes time, but eventually society polices itself. We have similar problems in the US with gangs. They behave in the same way.
