You’ve all been following the moonbat-influenced decision by NBC to turn down pro-troops public service ads from Freedom’s Watch. If you haven’t seen the ads, enjoy:
The peacock network says the ads were too “political.” Because, you know, simply saying “thank you” to the troops and asking others to do the same is just like calling an American general a traitor or exploiting the death toll in Iraq…which MoveOn.org did in an ad that ran on the Today Show, according to Newsbusters.
After enduring a nationwide backlash, it seems NBC may be flip-flopping. Drudge reports:
Under pressure from outraged viewers, NBC has reversed its decision not to air the Freedom’s Watch ads thanking troops..

Gee, I wish I knew of someone with ties to Fox that could make the suguestion… Good PR, & a chance to kick NBC in the butt, sounds like it could work.
I wrote them a scathing email the other day and I’m sure many many others did as well. This is good news, but like other commenters here, the bad taste will linger with me too.

I love all the comments. Unlike during the Vietnam war we have a very loud & vocal conservative community in America. This gives me hope America will survive. Unlike some wannabee conservatives I am not running around talking all negative. I try to be optimistic. I have faith Jesus will pull us through all of this, although He may allow us to suffer for awhile. We do have a “remnant of Christians” praying for this nation. I believe Jesus hears these prayers. That gives me optimism.
As a share holder in GE, I am disgusted. GE has obviously made a decision at the highest levels to be an anti-American corporation. It’s loony left network and anti-military posture leave little doubt that this corporation would rather be somewhere else.Apparently the American middle class that made this business is no longer good enough for these elites.

GE manufactures on a contract basis nuclear plants. It also makes weapons, parts of weapons and delivery systems. I am not aware that it manufactures nuclear weapons. I would expect Sandia, ITT (contract basis) Lockheed and Los Alamos to be the big players there. But I could be corrected.
I haven’t watched NBC in years. With cable, there really is no reason to. Cartoons are pretty much all that’s on here, or History channel, or Discovery or some other form of education. And not just for the kids either. If I wanted to dumb myself down, there are plenty of other ways that are far more entertaining that to watch any of the alphabet networks. The closest i come is to go to the local news stations website to get the local news…that’s about it. Even then, the local NBC affiliate’s site is too cluttered and loaded with ads to be worth a damn.
Besides, it’s all Bush’s fault anyway…if he hadn’t gone into Iraq to fight this war for oil in the first place, we wouldn’t have to worry about thanking the troops.

Just saw where your network decided to run these after all. Kinda surprised you’re running ads in support of troops your network deems “mercenaries” but as a retired Solider it’s too little too late in my opinion anyway.
Your network’s poor programing and liberal bias guarantees I didn’t watch anything but football on your network anyway even before you decided that messages thanking our troops for their service were “political”… as if Kieth Oberland and Moveon.org aren’t political. Thankfully I have Tivo and can fast-forward past everything that isn’t actually the game, including the commercials. Remind me to mention that to your advertisers.
Anyway, I know no human will actually read this and nobody will really care if one does. Just thought I’d let it be known that we have a pool going, wondering who will flounder first… you guys of the New York Times. NBC considers itself the network of the greatest generation. I submit that the greatest generation is a homogeneous group of generations that have come forward regardless of politics and answered with honor the call of this greatest nation decade after decade.
NBC has stabbed the men and women of the US armed forces in the back, and there is nothing they can do to erase that image from most of our minds.
I wonder if puppy face Brian Williams will comment on this fiasco. I almost hope he doesn’t, I don’t want him to ruin my nite.
(full disclosure) NBC is the only TV station that I get. Once in a while I catch the news or a program, but news wise they are usually two to four days behind the internet. It’s disgusting. And don’t get me started on their in depth series.
I swear to god when I watch NBC nighly news I always think that this must be what state run television is like in a totalitarian regime.

When it comes to our troops and supporting them there is nothing “too political” about it.
When you have to think about whether or not to run an ad that thanks them for their service, you no longer are worthy of my respect. I try to hold out because people change; however, they have been staunch in their lack of support for our troops. Crash and burn NBC

I was going to watch Wonder Woman, don’t ask :-), but after two back to back episodes with Bush hate rants, turned it off. Looks like a lot of others did to, they cancelled mid season.

Today NBC will announce a multimillion-dollar equity stake in the smart TV company TiVo. The move marks the first time a broadcast network has acknowledged the major impact that personalized television will have on the industry.
The two firms wont disclose the specific amount of NBC’s investment or the proportion of ownership it’s receiving in return. The deal is non-exclusive.
“This is a huge statement on NBC’s part,” says Larry Gerbrandt, senior analyst with the media research firm Paul Kagan and Associates. “It says they want to be in on digital video recording technology from day one to help shape the direction it takes and participate in the upside.” And as well they should, he adds, “because as these devices become more prevalent they will fundamentally change the way we use TV.”

When did it become OK to diss our military personnel???? I ask that as an honest question. I am so personally offended by this I could spit! Wasn’t there a time when it was awesome to hear your father or grandfather’s stories about the wars they fought? We didn’t praise them because they killed the enemy, we praised them because we were proud that they did something others refused to do. I have family who served in the Army and Navy and now a Marine. If something were to happen to him, God forbid, I would be doubly heartbroken because I know there are people who look down upon him for the service he provides this country. Used to also watch A&E and Bravo until NBC bought them also. First thing they did was
pull them down so far that they’ll never be respectable channels again. Then I decided
to watch Biography channel because they showed English mysteries. Guess what, NBC
also owns them and that channel sucks now also. Everything they touch turns to C**p.
NBC has decided that they cannot allow any influence from Fox News Channel to go unanswered, then they kept right on losing the ratings war.
So they stepped it up a notch and now not just the Nightly News and MS-LSD, but also NBC entertainment went totally political in almost all of their programs leading up to the 2004 election.
I used to enjoy ER, Law and Order and E-Ring. Then Law and Order’s plots became liberal lectures and propaganda. Same for ER. E-Ring just disappeared, because it painted an admirable picture of our Special Forces and their commanding officers, and it wasn’t portrayed as “weird” that they wanted to win the war.
Then, what they must think is the killer blow in this propaganda war, they drag NBC Sports into it by shoving Keith Uberjerk into the NFL programs. They even have the nerve to name it “Football Night in America” with Mr. “Worst Person in the World” doing the highlights. Then they top that with their endless hours of AlGoracle suck up global warming peace prize “green week”. I could just puke.
Of course, none of that was “too political”.
Bravo seems to be the super-gay channel, along with E! and MTV from Viacom(parentCBS).

Yes, I heard the Maha Rushie read that article on the air a few weeks ago. Funny nobody else at, say, NBC thought it was newsworthy.
It became OK to dis and talk poorly about the US Military 40 some years ago when the hippies and other Liberals made it all the rage with their protests and marches and slogans and such. They spit on returning military men whether coming home from combat or a POW camp or just from leave…to them it didn’t matter. They were called baby lillers and baby rapers and other heinous things that cannot be stated here. This went on for some time until it became all the rage. it became cool to hate the military. What once was a proud and honorable thing to join, where parents were proud and encouraged their children to join the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coasties, suddenly became like a curse or a disease.
It wasn’t long before parents would tell their children, “over my dead body will you join up”. they would do everything they could to talk their children out of joining the military. the lies began. The propaganda was unheard of. this was met by a campaign of advertisements on television and radio as well as billboards and magazines to try and counter-act what the Liberals were feeding to people. The lies that Liberals had been spreading relentlessly became the truth as it had gone on for so long without challenge. People did not question it, so by default, they began to believe it. hollywood joined in, and with a slew of Vietnam movies depicting our soldiers as crazed killers who plundered, pillaged, raped and burned…and not necessarily in that order, people began to take fiction for fact, and began to believe that the Vietnam War was exactly what was depicted in the movies and hated our vets all that much more.
It took Ronald Reagan to start to bring a certain level of respect back to the military. The Liberals hated him for that and they fought him tooth and nail they continued to spread lies but for once, the Conservatives began to fight back, and with the help of the Soviet Union, people began to see that the Liberals just might not be telling the truth. Also, Hollywood had a brief lapse of realism, and it began to see the realities of a nuclear holocaust and that the military really was the only thing keeping us safe. Following the fall of the Soviet Union, it took us winning in Iraq…sort of…for the respect to return to the military.
This was, as you know, incredibly short lived. Why was that? It was because the American public elected a well known military hater and his wife, who hated the military with a passion to office for eight years. With that came a return to the hatred that took so long to reconcile that to this day has been in a downward slump ever since.
What will it take to bring it back from the brink? It is unclear. It looked like 9-11 was going to turn it around, however the lies and pure hatred of the Left is something no rational mind can ever understand and it’s strength and ability to corrupt the masses is powerful. It will take a truly strong leader, one even stronger than Reagan. I do not think we have one on the ballots this time around. So we will continue to see them hate on and smear the brave men and women who serve us so bravely and thanklessly.
All we can do is to continue to do what we can and lead by example. Maybe, just maybe, people will see what we do and realize the evils of their ways and start to change. Until they do, we must never let the good die out.
This story is causing me to experience cognative dissonance.
I simultaneouosly feel contempt for NBC for not rejecting the ad in the first place, contempt for them for buckling so quickly under pressure and respect for them that they did the right thing (finally).
Or maybe it’s all just contempt.
Thanks to all here that take time to do the little things. Being deployed, I see that few people out here are even aware of ongoing debates like this one. Frankly, few soldiers have time to follow politics; even when the results are potentially as divisive as discussions like this one. They are doing their thing and hope to return to an appreciative nation. I use “talking points” from this site daily to exert subtle influence on those around me. Anyway, thanks to those of you who pick up a phone, send a message, or make known the opinions of the silent majority to those elitests that presume to speak for all.

I can only think of one good thing about liberals like the folks at NBC. They are willing to change course under pressure. When the going gets tough, the liberal turns around and gets going.
Progressives can’t win uphill battles because they only know how to “progress” downhill. They can only achieve their goals if “good men do nothing” and put no obstacles in their path; otherwise, they retreat or surrender. But just like other pests, you can never quite get rid of them. They always come out of their hiding places when no one is looking.

Times sure have changed,and not for the better. At this time every year during the 60’s,70’s,and 80’s, NBC was the station that presented “The Bob Hope Christmas Tour” saluting all the Armed Forces and bringing Christmas cheer to the troops and the home front alike. Alot of us saw Hope in person and many more watched the show on NBC. NBC payed for the entire show(advertisers). The station then had to be the most patriotic station in America. The show was a must, greatly anticipated and extremely pleasing and entertaining. Like I wrote above; Times sure have changed. Pity.

I am not in the least suprized, they caved into pressure. Last April NBCU and CBS caved into the threat of a boycott, by Rev Al Sharpton et al. and fired Imus. That is all you have to do, is threaten to boycott them. Look at the results MSNBC and CBS lost viewers and listeners. I don’t watch these networks anymore so I can’t boycott them again. My husband just retired from the Army so yes I would have heeded the call to boycott. GE owns NBCU, Jeffery Zucker is in charge so does GE AND NBCU “HATE” The American Military? Do they “HATE” America? Do they have to answer to shareholders? Apparently not!
I remember the way I was treated when I joined the Air Force in 1975. Most civilians of the “Hippie Culture” called me a baby killer, was even physically attacked a couple of times, and one even spat at me while in uniform. One reason while being required to rout step march through the local community when stationed in southern CA after Desert Storm I was surprised when patted on the back and found myself looking for the knife too. Still too many damned dirty old hippies with BDS hating our troops running around for my taste.
I remember a story one of our TIs told us in basic training about coming home from Vietnam. He had just landed in the continental US (somewhere in CA) and had washed up, shaved, and put on a clean set of blues to meet his family at his next stop. As soon as he walked out a smelly hippie came out and spit on him. Before he could react a Marine came out of a bar and in seconds had the hippie in lying on the floor in a heap. The Marine did not even have to adjust his uniform afterward, he turned around went back into the bar and continued consuming his refreshment. When the cops showed up they found out what happened and took the hippie into custody. I would love to see that done with some of the liberals who “support the troops” as long as we shot our Officers today.
NBC and their parent company GE has thrown their lot in with those that hate this generation of hero’s that voluntarily risk everything to allow the rest of us to sleep safe in our beds protected from the Islamic fascists (for now). I will be spending some time today to send a couple of flaming e-mails to this corporation. I would really like to see the Pentagon cancel all contracts with GE, but of course that will never happen, because the entire Congress and our President have shown they are all about supporting big business.

Why wouldn’t they broadcast those videos? I saw them and saw nothing “political” about them. Unless you count supporting the troops “political”, then you are implying that
a) supporting the troops is a political statement
b) you do not share that view
c) there exist political parties that support the troops.
d) there exist political parties that do *not* support the troops.
The refusal to air the videos says a lot less about the videos than it does about the thinking and mentality of the executives running NBC.
Pardon my cynicism, but I think they changed their “rules” because they realized that if they said “no” to these ads for the reason stated, they’d have to say “no” to a lot of other ads they want to run later as elections draw closer.
I’m even more cynical. I think they decided to show the ads because of the bottom
line. All of the outrage at their decision not to run the ads added up to loss of
viewership which added up to loss of income the their advertisers which means a
loss of income to NBC when advertisers pull their ads.

Like I said, I have not been watching them since April. I learned this lesson already, all they are doing by this latest slap in the face is punctuating why, I made the decision in the first place. NBC isn’t a peacock anymore it is a real turkey.

I flipped over to NBC for a second tonight during the game and I guess it was during half-time or so at around 7. One of the commentators actually said, when it was tossed to him, “Well, it isn’t like anyone is watching”. Oh my God, I about fell out of the recliner. And he was right, I flipped off right after that. Made me wish i had Tivo. Please tell me someone else was watching and heard him say that. That was around 7 Pacific.

I agree. I used to love to watch Law and Order, ER, and CSI. I noticed a couple years ago that all of those shows started becoming liberal-view-fests.
I started arguing with my wife about them, pointing out that all the story-lines showing illegals lately have been portraying them as hard-working, poor victims of male white racists. You never see a member of MS13 showing up in the ‘ER’ after raping an underage white female.
Also, Mariska Hargitay used to play a tough-on-crime Det. Benson. Now she’s just basically a lobbyist for Sanctuary, along with the rest of her cohorts at the SVU.
Every Muslim in ‘almost’ every show is just an honest, misunderstood, peace-loving victim. No Jihadists here….
CSI isn’t as bad, but they’re showing liberal biasing around the edges too.
Anyway, my wife is slowly coming around (but she still watches ER.)
As for me, I even quit watching Heroes. It’s FOX or SciFi channel for me.
