The Oprah-Obama revival tour: “It was like a religious experience”
Oprah was on the pulpit all weekend preaching on behalf of Barack Obama. Here’s a taste:
The Obama campaign is exulting in its Oprahfication.
Thanks to the cult-status TV talk show host, Democrats are having religious moments in the public square–and, for once, the ACLU isn’t suing:
Kristen Price, 26, who traveled about 120 miles from Bennington, Vt., to Manchester, said Winfrey was the main draw but she ended up as an Obama supporter.
“She played a big role, I’ll admit it, but he held his own just fine,” Price said.
Price said she had been torn between supporting Obama or Clinton but now considered herself firmly in Obama’s camp.
“It was like a religious experience. It was inspiring,” she said. “I feel like now America could do anything.”

I pray that more ‘Stars’ support Obama. I don’t think he has any real chance of getting elected, so any vote for him is a vote less for Hillary. I may even vote for him in the Democratic primary. As a real candidate, he’s a junior idiot. I hate the fact that he’s from my state of Illinois. (Although I don’t think he’s any worse than cowardly Dick Durbin.)
(The real vote will go to whichever Republican Candidate gets on the ticket. Hopefully Hunter, but whatever…)
Hmmm. So “O” has never before endorsed a presidential candidate. But now that a half-black man is running, she changes her mind and endorses him. Sounds racist to me.
Like win the war on terror? Hold ALL people individually accountable for their actions without regard to race, sex, religion or creed? End illegal government redistribution of wealth through unconstitutional programs? Revert true power back to the states and to the people? Secure the borders? Allow freedom OF religion rather than freedom FROM religion? C’mon … Let me know when I am getting warm!

As long as “she who must not be named” loses her position as the “anointed one” I could care less who the Democrats pick. Not one of them is in step with most of the country or is willing to keep us safe from Islamic fascists. They are all a clear and present danger!
I thought she came out for him months and months ago. I guess this was the ‘official’ coming out party?
So, Oprah tells us for whom to vote now. She tells us how to lose weight, when we need therapy, and many other things, or so I’ve heard.
Isn’t it interesting that American national elections are now primarily influenced by people whose political and historical credentials are limited to network show-business exposure. I’m not saying that’s bad – exactly – it’s just…..somehow, terribly interesting.
Can someone please explain why people are so enamored by this empty suit? Can you imagine Obama as the commander in chief?

The moonbat segment of the population is well represented in endorsements by stars like Streisand for sHrillary and Sean Penn/Spicoli for Kucinich.
I want to see who Olberman, Chrissie Matthews and Larry King endorse.
Juding by the bumper stickers where I live, the choice is between Paul, Hillary, Obama and Edwards. Who else thinks that albore may well still get his hat in the ring via a convention draft?
I can’t buy any of it. I heard she hadn’t voted in a primary since the ’80′s, now she sounds like Martin Luther King, another chamellion like Hillary. Actually, I would love to see him take the nomination away from Hillary, but listening to Oprah was painful. Another one who doesn’t believe we should have been Iraq, does she even knows what she is talking about or is it all racial? It wouldn’t surprise me, I was sick of hearing her name come up, now we have to hear it everyday. It’s funny how she came to the stump after never been involved in politics, that’s what makes it look racial.
Well, yeah, MM. “Religion” is okay so long as it doesn’t require its followers to have any set values, morals, or convictions. The “religious” experience here tolerates all the things liberals love, so it’s an acceptable religion.
I’m sure no one there asked Obama or Oprah if they thought every word of the Bible was true.
I don’t like Obama, don’t agree with his policies, and think he’s unprepared for the presidency. But in the Democratic primary, I’m voting for him. Hillary absolutely, positively CANNOT win.

What did surprise me in all of this is that Oprah was willing to sling mud (albeit indirectly) at Hillary.
Does this mean Oprah for Veep?

As a Republican I support Obama as the democratic nominee.

The guy who won’t cover his heart, will not say the pledge of allegiance…would not pledge his allegiance to the United States of America wants to be our president.

Anyone see “America’s first black president” giving an interview on the CBS morning show to a gushing Harry Smith in his little used Harlem office?
Think this is a coincidence or designed to reign in the black vote for Hillary?
Even funnier are the commentaries saying how much Bill Clinton helped the blacks. Yeah right. Only if you call using black churches as props every time he got into some kind of scrape. Which was often. I can’t think of a single thing he (or Hillary, for that matter) did for blacks.
I wonder when the blacks are going to realize they are being played by people that don’t give a flying fig about them?
The left side blogs are falling so hard over Ms O’s performance at 4 appearances they are wondering when she is going to run for office herself.
What’s most disturbing in all of this is the simple fact that the wealthiest woman in America (who prospered most from its capitalist friendly environment) is endorsing a populist candidate with an aggressive socialist agenda.
The theme maybe ‘the audacity of hope’, but the candidate has a ‘paucity of (good) ideas’.

Its so funny! You realize that all of those people just showed up to see Oprah??? They don’t care about Obama. He has done nothing in the polls since Oprah came out and endorsed him. Nothing.
I don’t have much use for either party, but as a bit of a election junkie I’ll be interested to see how much impact the Oprah factor has on the female vote in the primaries. Conventional wisdom tells us that these sorts of celebrity endorsements historically don’t have much of an effect on voters, but this one feels different to me. If Oprah can move enough of the women’s vote, you never know. BTW, I think it’s a mistake to underestimate Obama in a general election. I don’t see a Reagan among the Republican candidates…a very flawed and weak field IMHO.
I was hoping that since Cynthia McKinney has thrown her hat into the ring for the green party, that Oprah would switch her allegiance. Nope. Not gonna happen.
However, we saw what a landslide Dean supposedly had before the primaries and what happened to him ( and no, I don’t believe the scream did him in) and it is a fact
of life that all of the hoopla cannot always predict the election. You have to get those
voters into the polls. You have to get those ballots marked. If Dean’s supporters could
have voted on their computers he may have won, but come election day, they could not be bothered to go vote. It’s always that way. More people vote for reality tv contestants than for president because they can do it from home and in the moment.
Our campaign time frames go on for so long that most people that I know, that don’t vote, will say, either, I just got so tired of it all that I didn’t want to have any
part of the mess, or, gee, that was yesterday? Guess I just forgot.

I heard this quote on the radio this morning, and it immediately rubbed me the wrong way. My immediate thought was, “Why are we not beyond this?” The election of a commander-in-chief, a head of state should not be about race or gender; it should be based on issues, about how the candidates would solve the problems we currently face. In this, I don’t mean just the feminine “community” or the “African-American community” — I mean all of us, as Americans. Yet, the Obama campaign is relying heavily on the Black community to vote for him because, shock, he’s Black; Hillary, on the other hand, is expecting the “female vote.” It really reminds me of the rush in the blogosphere to grab the first post on a thread: Both want to claim “First!” But instead of supporting the campaigns for this, someone should be asking if they are qualified for the job.
Then again, given the current state of politics, that might be a true “First!”
And just what religion is that?
I have never understood the fascination people have with Oprah. And I don’t think Obama will be able to withstand the scrutiny when the Republicans go after him if he is indeed the candidate. What has he done? Scarier still, what does he stand for? Heard any of his indepth plans for our country except for soundbites? Horrors.

I can’t imagine Obama wresting the nomination from Hillary. Surely Oprah understands this? I don’t care what happens, if Hillary is not caught red-handed running a dogfighting or child prostitution ring, she’s getting the nomination. I think Oprah is using her celebrity endorsement to secure the VP nomination for Obama. Hillary would never select him on her own, because it’s a terrible ticket. Two liberal junior Senators, both from the North makes no sense. Oprah can use her celebrity and her platform to bully Hillary if it comes to that. That’s the only rationale I can see behind Oprah supporting Obama so vigorously.
Am I the only one that noticed that Oprah and Hillary have something in common?
They both can call on that black southern preacher accent when they deem it appropriate.
Maybe the girls should get together and give each other some notes on delivery.
I can’t stand Oprah. I used to see her program because of a co-worker. Back in the day in the psych program in college we used to discuss how destructive much of Oprah’s advice was for women in general and relationships in particular. For years I have been unwilling to date a woman who watches Oprah. It tells me something about her I don’t want to ever have to live with. Needless to say, I would suggest that someone who voted for Obama because of Oprah is even more retarded than someone who votes for Hillary because she (supposedly) was born with a uterus.

I don’t even think that would knock Hillary out of the nomination. The Clintons have gotten a pass on every questionable or illegal thing that they’ve done.

I’d like to see on the Republican side a Thompson/Hunter ticket. I can really get behind those two and they would most certainly get my vote. But if it comes right down to it I would hold my nose and vote for whomever the Republican nominee is.
