Report: Fort Dix Six plotters spreading jihad in jail
I know. You’re shocked, shocked, shocked:
Federal authorities say one of the men accused of planning an attack on soldiers at the Fort Dix army base gave another inmate in a federal detention center an Al Qaeda recruitment video and another wrote a note referring to the fight “we weren’t able to finish.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office made the allegations in a brief filed in U.S. District Court late Tuesday to oppose the suspects’ request to be granted bail.
A lawyer for one of the men said the government is misrepresenting an incident in the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia.
“Misrepresenting?” You decide:
In the legal filing, the government said Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer gave another inmate a copy of an Al Qaeda-produced DVD last month. Guards found the disc in a book in the detention center’s law library.
Government lawyers said in the filing that “the fact the defendant Shnewer and, perhaps, his co-conspirators may be spreading jihadist recruitment videos to other inmates clearly raises grave security concerns for the warden, and, again, supports the reasonableness of continued administrative detention for these defendants.”
Shnewer’s lawyer, Rocco Cipparone, said Shnewer told him 10 days or so ago about the incident. But Cipparone said Shnewer did not give the other inmate the video. Rather, he said, Shnewer was upset that the man somehow got hold of evidence that only the defendants in the case were supposed to see.
The government also said that suspect Eljvir Duka and another inmate were passing notes.
In one note, the government said, Duka wrote, “Now you see why we were going to sacrifice all for the sake of Allah in jihad” and referred to the fight “we weren’t able to finish.”

As punishment, they should get triple helpings of bacon for breakfast, lunch and supper…that’s all.
Why aren’t these guys isolated from the rest of the population? Looks like a trip to the Supermax may soon be in order.
Excuse me for asking a stupid question, but what was he doing with evidence while in jail?
this is why they should not be tried in our courts.. but be enemy combatants tried by a military tribunal. this is why they are not criminals, but enemy combatants. they do not belong in the justice system.
OMG..
A bit OT but did the President really pardon 29 people and not one of them was a Border Patrol Agent?
WTF is wrong with this guy? Does he really think an embezzler and a car thief are more deserving?
We play legal games with these terrorists to our own detriment. They are given far too much leeway and it needs to stop.
Un-Flippin-Real.
What next, will we be giving them guns to practice with?
I want to know how they got that DVD while in prison? … someone had to get it past the guards and into their possession … find the sympathizers and if they are guards fire them … now
so tell me, do inmates all have tv’s and dvd players in their cells now? where and how were they going to ‘watch’ this little video?
Put me in charge.
They subscribe to NutFlix.
There is nothing new about this. Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, joined the Religion of Peace while in prison. So did Jose Padilla. And wardens and guards remain oblivious?
Their next video for movie night is a remake of “The Endless Summer” – that surfing classic – but it’s only 35 seconds long.
Desert Lover–exactly. How in the HELL are they getting Al-Qaeda jihad videos into a federal penitentiary?
I know drugs and contraband make it into prisons all the time…but that’s ridiculous.
Is it some sort evidence? Is the lawyer involved?
Terrorist recruiting videos in prison – ok sure, as long as it’s not too loud, nobody loses a lot of sleep, and it’s not too cold in the viewing area. That would be inhuman and beneath us as a people.
It’s their NutFlix subscription…
uhangtight, that was the first question that came to my mind.
This is unreal.
WTF are our troops fighting for if we do nothing about the jihadists that have infiltrated the US. We have them in our jails and they continue to wreak havoc. WTF!!!!
We are a freaking joke to these guys.
see-dubya and AlohaGuy
Sure tells me we need some Sheriff Joe types at the Federal level … and the sooner the better …
Why are these guys not is solitary confinement?
Because liberals think that they are no longer a threat once they are incarcerated.
Besides, they only sought to kill people in the military. Why treat them harshly?
I knew this was coming. Imagine if they closed Gitmo.
Suggestion … how about once they are convicted they have to serve their sentences at Gitmo and are then deported … so they can’t contaminate any other prisoners in our jails
I’m right behind you.
Hey, that better have been the muzzle of your AR-15, or I’m going to FREAK OUT!
Exactly. This shows how much we need a place like Gitmo so we can separate the radicals from the rest of the prison population. Who cares what they say to the terrorists at Gitmo, they will only be preaching to the choir.
Ankle bracelets middle of the ocean. the end.
Agree with AJ #27 only we make them work for the cost of the bracelets before they go swimming.
aj.. lol right..
ship them to gitmo.. they are our enemies. try them as enemy combatants. they were going against a military base.. that is a war action.. i could scream..
Can we water board them? oh, never mind…i forgot.
Feebiebabe, IS the act of water boarding them wht they consider torture, or is the fact that water in general is involved? Most look like they avoid taking baths so I’m confused.
#31 – very good query John.
I agree with the other posts that it is F’ed up that he had this cd in detention, some one needs to be fired or even charged as an accomplice…
By the way, regardless of what is on it, even if blank, a cd snapped in half makes a pretty good er, cutting tool.
jus sayin.
I just hope the prison this bastard is in faces the wrong direction (I forgot:) and doesn’t get served pork but sure smells it through the ventilation system. Maybe “Brokeback Mountain” 24/7 would help them out:):)
feebiebabe
If we tie them to a “Surfboard” and drag them behind the boat … is that considered “waterboarding” or “surfing”?
Can they be transferred to the brig at Ft. Dix?? Or maybe Goose Creek?
jus sayin.
These guys are a clear and present danger to not only the rest of the prison population, but every non-Muslim American. We could send them to Ft Dix to allow the troops they wanted to kill to hunt them as part of a training exercise. If they make it to Canada they are free. Personally I think our troops are pretty good and would help them obtain their martyrdom status before they could get off the firing range I would set them loose on.
Absolutely!! Why are these men not in a military prison in solitary confinement? Why were they not tried months ago in a military tribunal for committing an act of war? If found guilty they should be hanged by the neck until dead. This is so friggin’ simple!! When did this become a nation of wussies?? Oh yeah, Jan 1977. I forgot.
Fort Leavenworth. Do they still have military guards there? Could we put these people in a military prison? Oh wait! Maybe that would require an admonition that we were actually at war and these people actually planned to commit an act of war?
Why do we persist in coddling these people?
The legal allows defendents to look at the evidence that’ll be used against them. Since they planned on using the DVD against them, the defendents had a right to look at it and create a defense for it.
Ahh, this is the kicker. This is the small bit of information that Michelle must have overlooked: They don’t. The defendent was watching the DVD in the library. Beyond that, there is few other places that anyone else could watch the DVD. Basically, distributing a propaganda DVD isn’t the prison is like handing out Betamaxes at Penn State. You can have the most important message in the world, but no one’s going to hear it.
A more…balanced view of the situation lies here: http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20071213_Fort_Dix_case_lawyers_spar_over_jihad_DVD_in_prison.html
Take what you will from it.
Thumb drives/flash drives? Suitcased in from visitors. ( you can guess where that means) They might even have a wireless receiver inside.
Digital arses.
Whatever. These guys should have been tried, found guilty and executed. Plain & simple. Just martyr them. That will make them happy and is a permanent solution that is very cost effective.
