Scrooges on the Hill: Saying no to Christmas resolution
From the office of GOP Rep. Steve King:
Congressman Steve King reacted this morning to the nine “NO” votes on his resolution to honor Christmas and the Christian faith. The vote shocked Capitol Hill observers because votes on similar resolutions honoring the holidays of Islam and Hinduism passed without any NO votes.
Appearing this morning on the Fox News Channel’s Fox and Friends, King said, “The [nine] naysayers didn’t make it to the floor to debate. I would like to know how they could vote Yes on Islam, Yes on the Indian Religions and No on Christianity when the foundation of this nation and our American culture is Christianity…I think there’s an assault on Christianity in America.”
The nine Members voting NO were Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY), Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) (FL), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA), Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA), and Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA). None of the nine voted against resolutions honoring the Islamic holiday of Ramadan and the Hindu holiday of Diwali.
Here’s video:
More:
Nine Democrats voted No – Ackerman, Clarke, DeGette, Hastings (FL), Lee, McDermott, Scott (VA), Stark and Woolsey.
Nine Democrats voted Present – Conyers, Frank (MA), Holt, Payne, Schakowsky, Schwartz, Wasserman Schultz, Welch (VT) and YarmuthThis is interesting because of this group 17 of the 18 Ds above voted FOR a resolution honoring Ramadan (Lee missed the vote). Note that the King resolution was based on the language in the Ramadan resolution. You can compare them if you want, but King’s is more benign. Ramadan – H.Res. 635 and Christmas – H. Res. 847
H. Res. 847: recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith

May Allah heap holiday (Holy Day) blessings on them all!
This just further supports what I’ve been saying for several years - that American leftists/socialists are as great a threat to our culture and way of life as are the radical Muslim crazies that we are fighting…perhaps more so.
Talk about self-loathing, clueless dangerous, “useful idiots”, who are happy, for whatever reasons they have, to mindlessly eat our cultural seed-corn.
God help us.
And this surprises anyone? These are the ultimate PC folks here at “work”.
Why look! They’re all Democrats! Who’d a thunk it?
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the beds of these nine.
Wow, how f’ing inclusive of them. Gotta agree with granite #2 that these jokers are easily as dangerous as ‘radical Muslim crazies’, especially since we can’t seem to just draw them all into Iraq …
I suggest we all send each of them a lump of coal for Christmas … courtesy of Ebenezer Scrooge …
Is nyone that surprised? The trolls will rejoice in this news and come up with some lame rationale, but ultimately it is the full on attack against Christianity and Christmas that the Liberals deny thats is the reason. This is Multi-culturalism at it’s finest. And look at who the Dems were…the biggest Dhimmis in Congress, thus it should be no surprise
Had Ramadan not been recognized, CATR would have sued and The Religion of Peace would have taken it as an insult to the prophet 9stink be upon him0 and the riots and murders would have commenced. However, these bigots can go and spit on the Christians and the holiday that they will be happily taking WITH PAY and not worry about a thing. After all, what are the Christians going to do about it? That’s right, nothing. Not even a discrimination suit brought against these bigots and dhimmis.
And yet there they will be come next election ctcle, standing in each AME and Baptist church, pretending and pandering, begging for the Christian vote, Bible in hand, and people will continue to let them do it.
Wouldn’t that be considered cruel and unusual punishment………for the fleas?
Gee, ya think? Front runner for understatement of the year.
What can you expect from Democrats? Democrats always seem to do what ever they can to destroy the U.S.
1/3 of them from Cal. disgusting crapweasels.
Then I expect to see the nine of them working on Christmas!
LOL - Donk’s all mine = A$$ ‘n nine!
Twice today I did that!
Since the Christians saw fit to vilify the heaven worshipers calling them pagans, in a sort of secular turnabout, saying no is ok. All religions can stand on their own quite well without some blow-hard politicos weighing in for their own PR purposes. It doesn’t effect anybody else’s celebration does it?
definitely there is an assault on christians. when religious freedom is the backbone of this country, implemented by our forefathers (a majority of christians). do they think that Moslems would have instituted such a freedom, Hindus or any other so called religion? no, but what do they do? they take and recognize two very oppressive religions. while slighting the one that actually thought of providing this very basic constitutional foundation of freedom of religion.
what idiots.
Unfortunately, McDermott is from my home state. He doesn’t want the United States to eavesdrop, he just wants to be able to do it. He can often be found here at Evergreen State College, the same school that produced many of the anti-America crowd trying to stop the troops from getting the supplies they needed at the port of Olympia. He has told students there that Bush is worse than Sadaam Hussein, America is the cause for all the world problems, etc. He is a sorry excuse for a U.S. representative, and the people here in Washington should be ashamed that they keep voting him in.
Amazing that before reading the list of Congressman who voted no, I predicted 14 of the no’s.
I guess Kucinich is on the campaign trail. This vote seems right up his alley.

so pagans are secular? …. hmmm i think maybe not…
also, you don’t address the most noxious aspect of these Congressmens behavior, which is recognizing Ilsam et al and not Christianity…
I know I’m gonna get trounced for this, but I couldn’t care less if Congress issues a resolution praising Christmas or not. They pass resolutions for all sorts of ridiculous stuff. Honestly, issuing a proclamation saying “We Love Christmas” is about as meaningful as one that says “We like to hug puppies and kittens.”
Pass a damned spending bill already.
But no…whenever we say there’s a “war on Christmas” and Christianity in general, the left says…”NO! There isn’t!”
In the report I read, one of the politicians who voted against the resolution did so because she was afraid it would violate the “separation of church and state” clause.
So, just to make sure I understand this:
Voting FOR resolutions recognizing Ramadan and Dawali is NOT a violation of the First Amendment and that non-existent “separation of church and state” clause that liberals love to use, but voting for the Christmas resolution - a holiday on par with Ramanda and Dawali - does? Especially when you consider our country was founded on Judeo-Christian values and principles?
Funny how people who consider the Constitution a “living, breathing” document happen to take a clause that does not appear anywhere in the Constitution (”the separation of church and state”) literally - always openly discriminating against CHURCHES and CHRISTIANS.
No, no subversive attack on Christianity here.
Countdown to the outright outlawing of Christianity…3…2…1…
The only actual assault on Christians lately was in Colorado Springs and Arvada. The regular bemoaning about Christians can be heard daily on your local Lame Stream Media outlet….and Air America Radio where available.
This is revolting but not a surprise given the sickening PC climate that is destroying the very fabric this country was founded on.
Islam a “great” religion of the world but Christianity is not? . Excuse me while I throw up! I just wonder what the American people think about it. One can only hope that this is not a one day story and the left gets KILLED by it. There is no damn excuse period.
It’s bad enough for members of both parties to even think Islam is a great religion let alone cast a silly symbolic vote. For any member of Congress to vote against Christianity like this is gtounds for impeachment….I’m serious. This is not a laughing matter.
Ladies and gentleman we are watching the intentional destruction of the United States happen right before our eyes by elected politicians.
#7, some of them actually need a lump of coal for Christmas - to dye their hair.
As a Theist… I have to ask why in the heck Congress is wasteing time on ANY of these resolutions, when they have not passed the needed spending bills to keep our troops in the feild and government going?
Have any of you (aside from Michelle) actually taken the time to read both resolutions? Although the top quote states the King resolution was based on the Ramadan resolution, the devil is in the details.
These are very specifically religious in nature. The Ramadan resolution didn’t mention these sorts of things at all.
These types of meaningless resolutions are passed routinely by both houses of congress … which is why they are invariably passed unanimously … they are pretty much ceremonial recognition at best …
Therefore … regardless of the parsing of the verbage in these resolutions the real problem here is that they unanimously passed resolutions recognizing religious holidays for Islam and India (I assume that would be Hinduism but it is not spelled out specifically in the story), as is customary, then didn’t back the Christian holiday resolution equally …
Let’s keep it up, democrats. Word will get out. Then, come November, don’t stand there open-mouthed when you find the country against you completely.
simple:
Democrat = socialist.
Is this what the public wants?
VOTE and make a difference.

Exactly.
These clowns saw an opportunity to give the finger to America, and they took advantage of it.
It is simultaneously frightening and fascinating to consider how accurate those folks were, who in the 60s (I remember) and 70s were warning about the terrible societal and cultural impact the stupid changes occurring at that time would have - changes in education, morality, pornography, the “arts”, law enforcement, and other aspects I can’t think of right now.
So, I am not surprised - saddened, disgusted, and outraged, to be sure; but, not surprised - that these “useful idiots” in Congress did this.
Politicians are interested in reelection, and/or in pursuing their worldview agenda - not in representing their constituents’ or America’s interests.
And, it’s not unlikely that a substantial proportion of them are the product of our dopey public education system, cesspool popular culture, socialist media,…you get the picture.
I hope I am wrong, but I am not optimistic that incremental improvement and restoration of our culture and society will occur.
Although I hope not, I’m afraid that it is going to take something drastic and sudden, something metaphorically similar to Hercules’ cleaning of the Augean stables in a single day; if our nation, society, and culture are to survive in a recognizable form.
Let it not be said that Muslims are alone in their unending thirst for religious victimhood.
Why is Congress wasting their time on religious recognition wankery in the first place? I don’t care what they think of my religion — or any other — as long as everyone is free to worship as they please.
Do the American people a favor and do something about illegal immigration or the income tax.

Agreed, wholeheartedly.
If I am correct, the point of most of these comments (at least of mine) is that, the situation being that Congress did vote on a nonbinding resolution, the above-named members, both those who actively voted, and those who merely voted “present” (whatever the hell that means - why not just say “abstain”?)gave the middle finger salute to America.
Give me a break, Mark. My time, and the comboxes, do not have nearly enough room to dissect just how completely ignorant and erroneous that statement is.
I bet good money these non-Americans get most of their campain money from secular humanist groups that hate morality, and the G-d that created them and died for them.
They would rather believe a lie.
My rep, Democrat Diana DeGette, explained her vote:
Does DeGette really believe that by affirming a resolution such as this that she is somehow establishing Christianity as the state religion? I’m sure the raging Christianists in liberal Denver will riot in the streets over this offensive dismissal of their religion. Oh wait, they won’t. But nice to see DeGette buy into the conspiratorial “Christians are trying to subvert the Constitution by establishing it as the state religion” moonbattery.
Once again, I am left to apologize on behalf of my state (CA) for the actions of the morons elected by the morons who live in this state with me.
The usual gang of moonbats.
Since the basic fundamental rights of our country are based on Christian beliefs, I would hold those that voted “NO” to remove themselves from office effective immediately.
Send them to the friendly sands of Iran.
Taxpayers should demand it now.
What an outrage.
And of course this means they will be WORKING on December 25th, right???
Yashmak…hey ..good to see your apology as I often have to apologize for living in amongst the liberal loons in MA responsible for Teddy “Mohammed” Kennedy and Kerry Swiftboater…..It’s a burden let me tell ya!!!
BS from the usual suspects.
Just when the Democrats couldn’t go any lower they just keep digging. I am so glad these crapweasels took the time to show their love for diversity and dimitude by recognizing other religious events too bad they couldn’t honor the real religion of peace (Christianity).
While it angers me that they have rejected this resolution while passing others pertaining to other religions, I gotta ask myself why does it even matter?
Should they be wasting time voting on resolutions that change nothing?
Can we call for a vote of our own ….. Secession comes to mind.
I never thought I’d see the day when the U.S. gov’t begins to persecute Christianity. This vote is just the start.
Heh. Jan Schakowski votes “oui” to the dhimmi Ramadan resolution, and “present” to the Christmas resolution, despite Christmas being celebrated in 90+% of the households in her district.
I think Jan is Jewish, and of course she’s a radical leftist. Are we a
littleraving self-hater, Jan?Don’t blame the crapweasels - they are just pandering to the idiots who elected them. I pity their neighbors…
Once again, a concept, I can’t believe was even entertained by our gov’t, is embraced by the left. As far as I’m concerned it makes the people paying attention choose a side and vehemently defend it, so hopefully these ninecompoops will be looking for work soon.
Jesus said there would be persecution against Christians and He also said those who hate Him will hate His followers. Most democrats I believe do not have a personal relationship with Christ so I am not shocked by this vote. Anyway I wish someone in congress who voted for Islam being a great religion tell me why it is such a great one?
Of course nothing has come of this from our dhimmi-ridden media, and nobody is even aware of it outside readers of this site. I’m starting to believe this country is destined to fall, and it is idiot politicians like these that will contribute so much to the downfall.
Freedom of religion - unless you’re Christian.
Freedom of race bias - unless you’re white.
Freedom of all the rights of citizenship - unless you’re a legal citizen.
Wow, I’ve got to stop reading back into archives, I’m getting worked up!
