Caught on video: Venezuelan commie’s hypocrisy exposed
Awesome. Why can’t more American journalists expose hypocritical, capitalism-bashing politicians and public figures the way this Venezuelan reporter exposed Vuitton-clad Venezuelan Interior Minister Pedro Carreno? You don’t need to understand Spanish to enjoy the moment the journalist called the emperor naked. Punked!
Reuters fills in the details:
A video of a Gucci- and Louis Vuitton-clad politician attacking capitalism then struggling to explain how his luxurious clothes square with his socialist beliefs has become an instant YouTube hit in Venezuela.
Venezuelan Interior Minister Pedro Carreno was momentarily at a loss for words when a journalist interrupted his speech and asked if it was not contradictory to criticize capitalism while wearing Gucci shoes and a tie made by Parisian luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton.
“I don’t, uh … I … of course,” stammered Carreno on Tuesday before regaining his composure. “It’s not contradictory because I would like Venezuela to produce all this so I could buy stuff produced here instead of 95 percent of what we consume being imported.”
The video clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDsdXkY4UlE) had been viewed more than 15,000 times on Thursday, a day after it was posted on the YouTube Web site.
Despite the best efforts of left-wing President Hugo Chavez to instill austere socialist values in its people, the oil-rich South American nation remains attached to consumerism.
Freedom: Love it, catch it, wear it.

Alberto de la Cruz at Babalu Blog is reminded of Porky Pig: “Caught with his proverbial Italian tailored pants down, Venezuelan Interior Minister, Pedro Carreño, has a hard time articulating a response to a question posed by a reporter right after he proclaims that the only path to justice is socialism, and not capitalism. The reporter simply asked him how he could be against capitalism while wearing Gucci shoes and a Louis Vuitton tie. That’s when he started to sound like Porky Pig.”

Cus our media are owned and controlled.
Took his cue from Kerry/Edwards
You mean the Hollywood elite?
Kinda LOOKS like Porky Pig, too – some family resemblance there
Sean Penn to the rescue…
Venezuelan Interior Minister Pedro Carreno was quoted as saying, “there’s two Venezuelas, one rich, one poor…..”
wait…..
Sorry, that was John Edwards.
In every situation that I see the brave hearted Venezuelan people going against a regime that would readily imprison them-I say a prayer for their safety.
I also see bravery here in the U.S. and pray for those willing to openly take a stand against the power of those who would destroy us by implementing socialism – thus putting themselves in absolute power.
socialism/communism there is an economic elite (under 5%) that rules while the remaining citizens are poor. yes, there is great hypocrisy from that end of the spectrum. re-distribution of wealth to them not the remaining 95% of the population. the ‘we are all common’ remain impoverished and unable to find a carton of milk in the capital city of venezuela because communism/socialism works so well.
Too funny! Kate practically blogged this story live at her site, with some great perspective, two days ago.
She’s posting a hilarious “Viva la Revovuitton!” cartoon today.
Michelle linked to Kate during the Iris Varela episode. She’a a great source for everything Latin America.
A cookie to the first reporter who asks John Edwards the same thing.
Maybe add in something about a $400 haircut.
Shoes from Gucci: $500
Tie from Louis V: $250
Getting a$$ handed to you by a lowly reporter for being a greedy, property-grasping, sycophantic socialist:
PRICELESS
Thats all folks!

Kate (my source for the “Che-Viva la Revovuitton” cartoon) also reports that the “lowly reporter” who asked the Gucci question was from RCTV, the same channel shut down by Hugo Chavaz at the end of May.
I suppose that revenge is a “satellite” dish best served cold.

Yup! praying over here as well. And for his family…sometimes they don’t just go after one….
regaining his composure. “It’s not contradictory because I would like Venezuela to produce all this so I could buy stuff produced here instead of 95 percent of what we consume being imported.”and use child and forced labor to do the work for beans and tortillos.
As it says in Animal Farm “All animals are equal, some are just more equal than others.” IIRC it was the pig that said it. How fitting.
Four legs good, two legs better.
Seriously though, what kind of socialist laments the dirth of locally produced luxury items that fat cat capitalist exploiters tend to enjoy? Is he seriously decrying the fact that Venezuela doesn’t engage in more production for profit rather than production for use?
Does he truly look forward to a time when Venezuela produces more worthless frippery and more fully embraces commodity fetishism? How would Venezuelan-produced Gucci-style shoes and Louis Vuitton-style apparel help create conditions more conducive to the emergence of proletarian class consciousness?
Those Venezuelan communists are pale shadows. History truly does repeat itself as farce.
Noted, you should do this in English next time so everyone can see you are brilliant!!!!
Translation (i think, with my limited Spanish and obvious literal barriers)
“I would like to compliment the Commander Carreno in his ability to match his red tie and suit to his faulty reasoning.”
Good post.
Aren’t you allowed to receive gifts in Venezuela any more? These were all bestowed upon the leaders by Sean Penn and the rest of his crowd of losers. I see no hypocrisy here.
I enjoyed some of the responses over at YouTube. Its amazing what people can rationalize.
