Playing catch and release with terrorists

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 16, 2007 11:00 PM

If you free them, they will kill.

Two convicted terrorists who had been freed in an amnesty carried out the suicide bombings at U.N. and government buildings that killed 37 people, an Algerian security official has said.

Rescuers in the shaken city Thursday were still extracting the living and the dead from the crumpled remains of U.N. offices in Algiers that were bombed by al-Qaeda’s self-styled North African affiliate.

Victims caught in Tuesday’s twin truck bombings, which happened 10 minutes apart, included U.N. staff from around the world, police officers and law students.

One of the bombers was a 64-year-old man in the advanced stages of cancer, while the other was a 32-year-old from a poor suburb that has produced many Islamic militants, the security official said Thursday on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

The government has offered amnesties to try to end a 15-year Islamic insurgency, resulting in thousands of militants turning themselves in, but sparking fierce criticism from the families of victims.

This right here is why we need to shut down GITMO and release all the terrorists: The sooner those chickens come home to roost, the sooner we can pay penance for all the evil deeds Bushitler’s goons have perpetrated in our name.

It doesn’t work for rapists or murderers. Recidivism is real. Terrorism is real. You and me dead, is a real proposition, in fact it is the goal of these terrorists. And letting them back out on the streets to wreak more havoc is so absolutely nonsensical as to be unbelievable.

You can’t lay these attacks at Bush’s feet. Try as they might… Liberals - this one is yours.

I feel like I am a broken record.

I’m sure they already are making evacuation plans as I type this. The UN is a corrupt and greedy institution that has gone the way of the League of Nations. History truly does repeat we are staring into the abyss of a Global War against Islamic Fascism (again) and it appears only a small handful of politicians and leaders fully understand the threat. Just like the appeasers of the 1930s the ruling class of Western Civilization is trying to feed the alligator so it will eat them last.

You deserve a prize for being the first person ever to use the words liberal and rethink in the same sentence.

Sadly, liberals rarely rethink. They only react (e.g., react with outrage, react with anger, etc.).

OK, one lesson is not to free convicted terrorists. Are there any other lessons?

How about: respect the will of the people. From the same linked article:

Algeria’s insurgency broke out in the early 1990s, when the army canceled the second round of the country’s first multiparty elections to prevent likely victory by an Islamic fundamentalist party.

Al Qaeda are in Algeria because of a (US backed, of course) coup that overthrew a democratic government.

The resulting civil war has killed hundreds of thousands. The government was trying to end it. Why else would they release known terrorists? Even with the bombings, if they end the civil war, it will be worth it.

The Frustration we feel toward our own government comes out in many ways. We tend to want to blame them for all of the ills in this world. After all it’s gotta be somebody’s fault!

However, the question to be asked is why is there a civil war in the first place. The ends justifies the means, right? Terrorists are responsible for creating this strife, terrorists are freed to possibly end the strife and what do they do upon being freed? They partake in more terrorism.

Yet, somehow miraculously and by using your logic - “Even with the bombings, if they end the civil war, it will be worth it.” Bombing the U.N. is going to end a civil war. Riiiight.

@2 In the west with Liberals of all times there is this, It will work here, or it can’t happen here mindset. Also they seem like IGM, self important, better than thou in all aspects, attitudes. IGM, Algeria didn’t have a democratic Goverment but briefly, in fact it was under French control, till Islamic militants took up arms and won freedom, the US and western powers steped in and forced democracy. But the later Insurgancy was Soviet Funded and Equiped.

The US of course is no innocent lamb, but in this case it was the Russians. And truth of the matter is the release might end it, or it might put troops back into the enemy line. Releasing prisoners in the West is a sign of human faith and good will. In the East it is weakness, it shows you are weak and that you can and will be beaten. Very few Countries in the Eastern work that have tried this policy are around now, least in the same form.

Of course to read the full transcripts of the AQ “press releases,” we should ignore all the Koranic hate-mongering and long term goal of restoring the caliphate.

And never mind that Muslim extremism has been around for centuries longer than the US has ever existed.

Al qaeda is not in Algeria to fight for democracy; they’re there to help homegrown islamic parties like the FIS destroy democracy.

Ali Belhadj and the FIS planned to use the ballot box to establish sharia, which would put an end to democracy in Algeria. According to Belhadj, “There is no democracy in islam.”

So, does 51% of the population have the right to strip the remaining 49% of their minority rights to due process and the free exercise of their constitutionally guaranteed right to pursue ends not endorsed by the koran?

The resulting civil war has killed hundreds of thousands. The government was trying to end it. Why else would they release known terrorists? Even with the bombings, if they end the civil war, it will be worth it.

So if the government of Algeria ends the purported civil war by releasing people who massacre civilians in an attempt to establish sharia law, then it will have been well worth it?
