Music video of the day: Pull your pants up!
Reader Ronald sent in my nominee for music video of the day. I think you will love it. I was at the train station recently and saw two young clowns beclowning themselves, shuffling around with their pants around their knees trying to look cool. It took all my strength not to say exactly what this rapper says: Pull your pants up!
Here’s more about Six 8, the group that made the song and video.

Flashback: The thong reaction.
If you’re not into rap, here’s the music video of the day runner-up–an 8-year-old blues guitar prodigy:

After all these years, this is the second Rap song I like. The other is Will Smith’s “Parents just don’t understand”
You mean the ‘Fresh Prince’. It’s a shame that he didn’t bring DJ Jazzy Jeff along with him on his ride to fame. Jazzy Jeff could do some crazy stuff on the 1’s and 2’s. I thought he was the one that carried the group. Low and behold, the Fresh Prince is the most bankable star in Hollywood.
Cool. I love it. I don’t listen to rap but I can play that song. And those little dancers were gettin it on!
Good message, but rap is still crap.
IMHO of course.
I agree Aj.
Ditto on #4 but don’t you mean “carp”?
then it would have to be rarp.
Yeah, Yo Yo I like it. I will play for my sons friends tonight.
Good message. Dignity. Self respect. Thanks Ron and Michelle…
Young Mr. Latz is more to my taste! Great. May God Bless them all.
I like some rap, but this song is the most positive I’ve heard in a very long time. Now, if all these “bandits” would pull their pants up…
I managed to listen to some of it. I agree with the message, but I still can’t stand to listen to rap.
I can’t stand to listen to rap either, but I’m still playin it. Can’t stop.
Thanks Michelle. Now you’ve got me addicted!
I love some rap because my son listened to it and some of the beats are like disco;)
This is a great young man to attempt to bring some sanity to an insane environment.
I loved it when the rock group P.O.D. put their album out and it took my kids and myself and a lot of other “rockers” years to find out the songs we liked were actually Christian rock.
I respect anyone who can provide positive examples to kids no matter the genre.
Forget the rap video. Hasn’t anyone checked out Tallan Latz, the 8-year old blues guitarist?
You know it’s hard to pull your pants up when your pot belly keeps pushing them down!
Tex, I have! Boy got some chops, don’t he?
Crap music is what it is. This was still a neat little “song.” But I was hooked as soon as I saw the Bucs hat.
Rap is called rap because the type setter ran out of ‘C’s’
Ugh….I have such a headache now from listening to that now, but at least maybe now some kids will stop wearing their pants down around their ankles.
Of course, there is a plus side to this fad. This would be the dummies that wear their pants like that and then go and commit a crime. You see them on “Stupidest Criminals” or on “COPS” every once in awhile. They start running from the cops, and then they either have to run slow because they have a bug wad of their pants in one hand, or they get tripped up because their pants fall down around their ankles and they do a face plant.
This little “Fad” started, like, twenty years ago. It was stupid then, and even stupider now. Now, obviously I can’t speak for all men, but when I get dressed up, I do it in such a way to be pleasing to the eye of the opposite sex; to make a member of the opposite sex notice me and think, “Wow, that guy looks really nice, I would like to have his children”…or something like that. Now, can anyone honestly tell me if there is one single woman or even a girl out there that can look at one of these brainless fools and think that they look hot, good, awesome and want to just take them home to their mothers and say, “Hey mom, I found him, he’s the one, he is the guy who will share my life/ I want him to pass on his genetic make up on to my children so that they can grow up to be just like him”.
No. Not a single woman have I ever found has ever said that was a good look, let alone any of the other stuff. in fact, each one to the woman all agreed that every man/boy they saw dressed like that must have had one too many chromosomes, and their parents were letting them experiment that morning.
When Lord, oh when will your people have to stop suffering from this stupidity?
Debbie Harry invented rap with “Rapture”.
/gets off high horse
Nice to hear a rap song with taste.
Some say country folk invented rap, only they call it square dancing.
What are you talking about? Jeff had a recurring role on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and they kept work together musically, though less frequently as Will became more an actor than musician. Here’s the 411. Jeff has been a successful producer and his legendary status as a turntablist - he’s credited with creating the “Transformer scratch” - is untouched. Remember, he was the top-billed half of “DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince”.
I hope hadsil was kidding about Debbie Harry. (Irony doesn’t translate in print.) If anyone can lay some serious claim to advancing recorded hip-hop, it’s Malcolm McClaren - the Englishman best known for creating and managing the Sex Pistols. His “Duck Rock” album with “Buffalo Gals” (a rap/square dance tune!) is a landmark though many have never heard of it.
Word up! This 40-year-old white conservative has just dropped the science. Holla!
Hadsil is correct about Deborah Harry and the group Blondie creating the first “rap” song. Check out the music video Rapture and the rap is definiately evident.
GSP
Funny! And you can add liberal men to the list. Nothing attractive about a man who doesn’t have convictions. Ew, guns, war and did I mention guns.
I can’t listen to the audio here at work. But I’ll check it out when I get home. As for the message, I’m glad somebody said it. I just don’t know how some things get off the ground.
#25 You’re funny 30!
As far as Debbie Harry and Blondie “inventing” rap, that’s a little ridiculous. She had the first “mainstream” pop song with a rap in it, but she by no means started the genre. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the comments above.
Thanks navywife91, it’s so true. Am I right?
You are! It reminds me how attractive some of those actors are until they start talking about the War on Terror, gun control, global warming, etc. If only they could keep quiet.
For those out there who do not like Rap, it is only because you have listened to Kanye West or attended one of his concerts. Forget about what he said in the telethon two years ago. If you judge him solely by his music, you may not become a hip hop fan or a fan of Rap in general but I promise with 100% certainty that you will become a Kanye fan. If you don’t want to buy a whole CD, then download Touch the Sky, Stronger, Golddigger and Can’t tell me Nothin for your ipod. I know of nobody who has listened to those great songs and not become a Kanye fan. And I say this as someone who dislikes the Clintons as much an anyone.
UGH
I lasted about 5 seconds on that. Rap is pure garbage. I don’t listen to it, I don’t associate with people that do. It is pure garbage.
Music is like candy. It’s no good until you get rid of the rappers.
Exactly.
sorry. I meant to say if you are not a Rap fan, it is only because you have NOT listened to Kanye West yet. Kanye is an incredible talent. When you listen to his songs, you realize that he does not have a bad one in any of the CDs. I have been to two of his concerts. He is the best!
Tallan Latz is an awesome kid, stuffed with four extra portions of talent and enthusiasm. He has a great future in front of him.
And they call this music? Sigh. I must REALLY be getting old!
That said, I DO agree with the message. So often when I walk behind these guys with their pants below their crack I am tempted to “accidentally” step on their pants cuffs. Oooops!
Oh and my post was for navywife.
I don’t think rap is pure garbage. Tupac Shakur and Kanye West bring a different style to rap music. There is a positive message in some of their music.
But to each his own.
I listen to all genres of music. I can get down with country, R&B, rap, rock, and some pop music.
isn’t much of this relative?
blues was once the music of black pimps, dopers and idlers.
now it’s safe for our 8 year olds.
Don’t care for (c)rap, but agree with the message of their song. Really enjoyed the 8 year old blues guitar prodigy. He was playing “Hideaway” better than some players I’ve heard three times his age.
I agree that some rap has good messages, but I refuse to listen to Kanye West and won’t allow my daughters to either. I think what he did a couple of years ago at the telethon for Katrina was grossly irresponsible and ignorant and he never apologized for it. Besides the bewildered look Mike Myers had on his face, I don’t remember anyone on that show denouncing what he said. Although I sympathize with him since he lost his mother, I do not like him.
Also, I’d like to respond to comment #31 by saying that you do yourself a disservice by “not associating” with people who listen to rap. I happen to enjoy the beats more than the lyrics, but I don’t think it makes me a bad person to hang around.
Look for Michael Jackson to release “Pull Your Pants Down” on his next CD.

I don’t believe that thing masquerading as Michael Jackson is the Michael Jackson of yore.
Unless of course if we use the barometer of his obsession with children then I’d say lock him up with R. Kelly and be done with it already.
I miss the “old” Michael Jackson. I went to see the Victory tour back in the 80’s and it was great. Of course, I was very young then and his obsession with young boys wasn’t known.
R. Kelly is another scumbag, but people still listen to him and buy his music.
Disappointing and disgusting.
Cool.
Yes, same here. I love Michael’s music -but you can’t be that musically gifted and not have a problem. Same with R. Kelly.
No excuse for their pedophilia…they should be locked away in somebody’s penitentiary.
I’ll take the blues every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Regarding Kanye West at the telethon, he did sort of apologize for his conduct, albeit indirectly. He did a later skit on SNL that poked fun at himself and Mike Myers was in the skit with him. That is about the best we can hope for by way of an apology. But musically, Kanye has tons of talent. His song “Touch the Sky’ is a hip hop classic and the video (on you tube) is great. Kanye does not do “gangsta rap”.
BTW, regarding R. Kelly, whatever one thinks of his private life,he is an extraordinarily brilliant R&B singer. He has the voice of an angel, with phenomenal range. With R. Kelly it is important to keep in mind that entertainers are often the targets of predatory groupies and slickster lawyers. Possibly R. Kelly is the victim of these shysters. I don’t know for sure but it is possible.
Larraby, your standing up for these artists is sounding too much like the way star athletes are forgiven for bad behavior because of their athletic prowess. Bad behavior is bad behavior and should be condemned no matter what other talents a person has.
If anything, those in the public eye should have an even greater responsibility to conduct themselves well because of how many young people may try to emulate them.
I agree with you Larraby that there are people out there who “go after” celebs and unfortunately some of these girls have grown up way too fast. However, I’ve listened to his music and lyrics and he’s definitely got some issues. Not quite sure if you saw the video of him and this young girl and the things he did to her. Even his brother said it was him.
I’d be shying away from drinking and trying to get women/girls in the bed. Aahliyah was very young we he met her and I’m sure you’ve heard about their “relationship”. Age ain’t nothin’ but a number.
Oh, and I don’t consider an “indirect” apology and apology at all.
I meant “an apology”
first spelling error
shoot!
I’m not sure if y’all are serious about this Blondie thang. If so…try harder. As to the whole using html tag /, as in /snark, as a signifier that you are being sarcsitic or whatever…let me drop some science. When you add the word “off” to a symbol that already means off you create a double negative type thing and create confusion. So in the case above you are ending getting off your high horse.
Tis’ Futile to argue with someone exhibiting the classic signs of projection.
THis is a joke post, right? I mean, you can’t honestly be serious, can you?
I will be 40 years old here in just 2 months to the day. I worked in the entertainment field for 20 years where I have seen amd worled just about every genre of music there is. I have heard every style of rap there is from it’s inception until it’s modern day versions now.
I know rap, I understand rap…I just plain freaking hate rap.
In the words of the great John Entwhistle, “Those who can’t sig, rap”.
Now, to defend a race baiter and obvious racist, who decided to place himself on par with Christ, is your decision, but to make us all decide we have to like his is just plain rude. I suggest you get away from that medium of music. Why? Because it does nothing but put donw and keep down an entire race of people.
It promotes violence against women, it encourages rape, violence, sexism, crime, ignorance, illiteracy, drugs and everything that is wrong in society today. It is the antithesis of society and as a form of art holds no redeeming qualities what-so-ever. It relys on stealing the works, rythms and harmonies from other, truly hardworking and talented artists in order to make a “rap” record and thus, by itself, cannot stand. Kanye West? He is nothing but the latest flash in the pan, and there is one rap artest for every two on a street corner. They are nothing special. Period. It is a loathesome, disgusting, sexist, and sometimes criminal form of expression which does nothing but keep an entire race of people involved in racism as a way of life.
RetFireman, Please don’t hold back, tell us how you really feel.

I’ve often thought the same about John Wayne Gacy. Say what you want about his private life, he was an extraordinarily brilliant clown painter. He had the brush stroke of an angel, with just as much “phenomenal range” as your friend R. Kelly. The only difference I see between the two? R. Kelly actually videotaped his victims…no class.
Regarding Kanye West, he may think George Bush “hates black people,” but at least I’ve never heard George Bush call black people “n’s” like Kanye does.
When Kanye West looks back in about ten years, I am sure that he will realize that his remarks about President Bush were uncalled for. His spoof of himself on SNL was pretty much his way of acknowledging that his remarks were silly. But let’s keep in mind that Kanye has just been through a heartbreaking tragedy, losing his mom to a nonboard certified doctor’s incompetence (I note parenthetically that this shyster doctor had appeared on Oprah several times and that appears to be how Kanye’s mom found the guy. So Oprah has a lot to answer for)
But back to Kanye, this is a time for sympathy for Kanye and his family. And Kanye also does not do “gangsta rap”. Kanye may be full of himself but he is a great talent. I promise everybody: If you just download a few of Kanye’s songs, you will definitely be a fan.
Larraby said:
Larraby, I just downloaded “Golddigger,” and the song uses the “n” word six times, the “f” word twice, and “@ss” four times. Why did you tell me to do that?!
You’re rigth, 30. Truly Futile.
BrianNY, excellent point at comment #55 about Kanye and the infamous “n” word.
Larraby, I guess you really like Kanye, which is fine. You brought him up though, so it’s fair game to discuss his behavior and lyrics. I know he’s not a gangster rapper, but as BrianNY stated above, his lyrics leave something to be desired. I also brought up the fact his mother recently passed away and that I have sympathy for him as I’m sure a lot of people do, but that doesn’t excuse the things he’s said or done prior to that.
To Malkin readers who care:
I’m not a parent, but I would want to know the following if I were.
At the invitation of another contributer to this post today, I explored Kanye West’s lyrics. I have never been a fan of Kanye West because of his racist and false witness against our President during a period of time when Americans were literally opening their homes to the poor people of New Orleans. That said, I was appalled at what is contained in West’s lyrics.
Of the four songs that I was invited to explore, Kanye West uses the “n” word seven times, the “f” word 4 times, “sh*t” four times, “@ss” six times, and a derogatory term for lesbians once.
In addition, Kanye West uses an Asian woman in his video “Stronger” as a sexual object and refers to her with the racist slur, “me likey.”
In this same song, Kanye West also uses the term,“You know how long I’ve been on ya? Since OJ had isotoners.” Think about that. He is callously referring to the gloves that OJ wore while butchering his ex-wife, Nicole, and Ron Goldman. A cute way to score a racist point that doesn’t even rhyme?
I’ve always known that rap music is a parental mine field which needs to be carefully scrutinized. Now that I know that Kanye West is nothing more than a foul-mouthed racist, I intend on informing all my friends who take parenting seriously.
hat tip to Larraby.
I had some Christian rap tapes in the 80s because they drove my mother nuts. She hated the style and she couldn’t complain about the content without risking driving me to Satanic death metal.
Thanks for the tip BrianNY. I’ve never listened to the song “stronger” for more than a couple seconds because I turn the channel. I wonder if Larraby has actually listened to all the lyrics because I know I haven’t.
Larraby, you really need to get out more. If you think for one moment that Kanye west, or any Rapper, be they “old School” gangsta, or whatever, is good, quality, hip, happinen, good, great, perfect, or whatever you want to call it, you are really, really mistaken, and i guarantee you, you did not read my above quote.
You also have obviously not listened to a very broad base of music if you think that rap, especially Kanye West, is the greatest thing around. There is so much more out there that has harmony, actual music, actual lyrics, actual sounds. They do not end up using profaity or debasing themselves into any of the things I or anyone else stated.
Sorry, but I do not feel sorry for Kanye, though I am sorry his mother died. I do not think Oprah has anything to answer for, and if she chose a doctor without checking his credentials first, it is she that has some answering to do.
Kanye is, in my humble opinion, a waste of skin.
You, however, are about the rudest individual I have encountered in quite sometime. You have successfully hijacked this thread, and have insulted everyone here and have decided upon yourself that we are all moron to not like rap, especially if we do not like this poser of the month Kanye “I’m a Racist and Bush hates Blacks but it’s OK cause Idjits like Larrabe will make excuses up the ying yang for me” West.
Have a nice day, buy some classical albums, some Beetles, some Tubes, some Hootie, some Dave Mathews and some Zappa and go to sleep. You have had a rough day.
And stop listening to that racist, violent, sexist rap music. It is obviously rotting your brain.
Why is the guitar boy wonder wearing a wedding ring?
