Fire near VP Cheney’s office sets off nutroots alarm: “Reichstag!”
Like clockwork, the nutroots exulted over the fire near Vice President Dick Cheney’s ceremonial office at the Old Executive Office Building in D.C. this morning. Here’s a typical e-mail that littered my mailbox:

I’m sitting here in my pj’s watching a burning building in D.C., and the first thing that pops into my mind is “that reminds me of Napoleon burning Moscow”…
Then I head over to HuffPo to see how the looney bin is doing, and sure enough they had nailed it!!
Of course, it’s the Nazi’s!! Not the French!! How 19th century of me! Yes, a building burns in D.C. and it’s just like the Reichstag fire.

The fire was probably started when Darth Cheney stopped by to intimidate federal employees with his cherry-picking powers.
Lightning from the fingertips is always tricky indoors. I would have thought Darth Cheney could just stick to mental strangulation.
They’ll blame Cheney (and Bush, of course) for all that fire pollution contributing to global warming. Gore will probably be private jetting to D.C. for a press conference.
Maybe we can transfer the $10 million dollars earmarked for legal aid for illegal aliens and use that money to upgrade the wiring system in the Old Executive Office Building! It is one of the most impressive buildings in D.C.

It has NEVER been proven DECICIVELY whether or not the Reichstag fire was actually started by the S.A. or was started by natural causes.
What is known is that itler utilized this fire to his best political advantage. It just is not known if he started it or not.
So to claim that Bush…or anyone else for that matter…starts a fire and then claims it to be their Reichstag” is just patently false and shows a blatant disregrad for history and shows a blatant ignorance towards history by the person making the original referrence I.E. the stupid Liberals in this case.

Exactly! The problem here is that all students are taught that the Nazis DID set the fire. That was always the impression I got from my (public) school daze. Once I was no longer suffering from the liberal indoctrination in public school, was I able to think for myself. I read the truth that while, yes, the Nazis were not above manufacturing incidents, there was no proof they started the Reichstag fire. Hitler was a master at using non-manufactured incidents to his advantage. I don’t think he placed the bomb that almost killed him in July, 1944, but he sure used it to his advantage to hold onto power almost another year.
It’s like listening to the Darwiniacs tell us about evolution; they teach it as the absolute truth in schools, but when cornered to prove it, they just say, “Well, it’s only a theory.”

Why is the media reporting that the fire actually occurred AT Cheney’s office suites, when your sources are saying they occurred NEAR the offices?
Is this just wishful thinking on the part of the conspiracy set to make a case for the Reichstag comparison? Also, do you have the source stating it was NEAR and instead of actually AT the offices. this would go a long way to shut some of these people up.

The Reichstag line was from a comment to the Huff post news item. Seriously, if you’re going to hold the entire liberal community responsible for comments on a blog, you have some serious cleaning up to do on your side. For all you know, the comment could have been left by a conservative troll!

Well, lgm, a brief survey finds a lot more than one comment. If there are conservative trolls, there are a lot of them. According to LGF, Huff Post had to shut down the comments for this thread, and if you read some of the examples preserved at LGF, you’ll see that they make little sense.
