Harry “Loser” Reid lays another egg
Over Thanksgiving, Harry “Loser” Reid kept the Senate in 30-second pro forma sessions to block the president from making recess appointments. He’s doing it again. He’ll send a minion to gavel in and gavel out without actually doing anything. For the hell of it.
What an appropriate non-ending to the Democrat leadership’s never-ending obstructionist year:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has announced that he will call the Senate into pro forma sessions every several days during the upcoming winter recess in order to prevent President Bush from making recess appointments.
Reid explained that he and Josh Bolten, the White House chief of staff, were not able to reach an agreement to prevent Bush from giving a recess appointment to Stephen Bradbury, the actiing head of DOJ”s Legal Counsel, and without that agreement with the White House, Reid refused to allow the Senate to recess for three weeks.
As it stands now, Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) or some other Democrat will come in every couple days, gavel the Senate into session, and then immediately adjourn. This will block Bush from using his recess-appointment authority.

Hi, with all due respect the obstruction did come from Harry Reid or the Democratic party. I’m sure we can find a quote from Mr. Lott that lays out the strategy of obstruct and then blame the do nothing congress. There is a good deal of blame to go around here.

I guess I don’t see the problem – they’re probably doing just about the same amount of work during “recess” that they do on a normal day. At least they’re not bringing up another mutation of S-CHIP or cutting money for the border fence …

I don’t know why I’m surprised by this kind of thing – I guess they would rather be party to a sham like this than hold an honest debate and a straightforward up or down vote on the nominations. Oh yeah, that’s right – the ultimate enemy of liberals – logic!

Why is Harry so fearful of Bush’es appointments? At least Bush and his appointees have ideas how to combat terrorism, and the war in Iraq. Whats Harry’s ideas?? He says he wants a different direction and what is that direction besides surrender and I wish some reporter would ask him what he is offering besides surrendering. Does anyone here know what Harry’s proposals are on Iraq besides surrender. Same quesition goes to all the Demos including Mr. Webb.

I guess I have a suspicious turn of mind these days. Wen I see the Republicans and President Bush being outmaneuered like this, I have to wonder deep down whether the president might really wantto be outmaneuvered. I suspect that Pres. Bush, deep down may not really want to make these conservative appts., and that is why he and the Republicans are not fighting harder against the Democrats. The President is certainly not fighting the way he did when he wanted the amnesty bill passed.
Ah, the petulant libs love to write “Faux” relating to Fox, while feigning CNN’s enlightened reportage is not biased at all.
Oh, I’m sure the Republicans will return the favor some day. Hopefully not too soon in the near future.
Reid should take a hint, he can’t hit, he cowers to the corner and takes a whipping, and after his mouth piece is sent flying into the 7th row and the ref waves his hads calling off the bout, he goes to his cut man and says, “you should see the other guy.” THen the cut man slices below his eye to get the swelling down (so he can see the other guy) and he realizes he’s lost every round by a 10-8 score and a knock out couldn’t even help him because there’s not enough time for him to even land a jab. SO, he’s going to chose to dance around the ring (trying to get byrds out of his head)and last until the end just so he can claim “I went the distance.” Reid’s corner should throw in the towel as the crowd is booing. His low blows didn’t help and they continue to lose him points on the judges cards. Next thing we know, he’ll try to bite off an ear. What a sad sportsman he is. He needs to retire and watch the real pros. He’s a big time loser. He’s a chump with no chance of being Champ.

President Bush should call their bluff and make recess appointments anyway, if for no other reason than to ruin Harry’s vacation.
Amazing how obsessed the democrats are over Bush. They won’t do anything for the country or juridictions that they were elected, because they’re too busy attacking Bush/Cheney. Reminds me of the Congresses in 1865-67:radical republicans against Johnson. It is almost believable that they are totally paranoid and need some help/counseling. Will this continue in the new year? Unfortunately, yes.
I’m wondering what would happen if one Republican senator, like maybe John Warner, would show up and ask for the floor, then call for a quorum.

This past year has been quite educational. It exposed dimwits, unchallenged in their gerrymandered districts, who seem stuck in the 1970’s. They, the Democrats, are clearly not ready for prime time.
But what comes around, goes around. The Democraps behavior since 2000 have made their possible Presidential victory the start of Republican obstruction. One key difference is that the Republicans will do it better.

Should get a couple GOP Senators to show up and outnumber the Dems, then vote in another tax cut, more $$$ for Operation Iraqi Freedom, approve of Bush appointees, and anything else they can get in. Including a resolution calling Democrats traitors.
What a deliciously evil think to do!! But Bush won’t allow it. But I think he should get the Supremes involved because this is clearly hindering the President’s Constitutional rights. He should also have the press (not that they wouldn’t try to spin it their way) harp this fact. Just quote the Constitution and then show the Senate procedures for the holidays.

President Bush should beef up the security at the Capital over the Christmas break. “Deadwood Dick” Jim Webb may use this as an opportunity to cache additional weapons in the secret compartment in his desk.

I’m supposing the Dem with the gavel will have to recognize his collegue first. I doubt that will happen, but if the Dem is foolish enough, I’d call for the qourum immediately.
It’s not just Reid. All I hear from the Dems is “we need a new direction” and this is from people that can’t pour water out of a boot with directions written on the heel.
At least Republicans can come up with a plan. It might not be the best plan, but it is a plan.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my military career, it’s better to start with half of a plan than with no plan at all. Then you have something to work with and modify as things change.
Wonder what would happen hundreds of people obtained tickets to the visitor’s gallery (like maybe from some sympathetic Republican senators?) and showed up on the days when Congress is to be in “session.” According to Congress’ own website: “The galleries of the Senate and the House of Representatives are open to view whenever either body is in session.”
Two choices.
1) Republicans wait in the wings and flood the chamber when the Democrats attempt the 30 second session. Then they can reorganize the Senate and pass the pending legislation.
2) One Republican shows up to demand a quoram call and proves the session is a fake. The President refuses to accept the sham session and makes the appointments. Let the SCOTUS sort it out.

He’s the Senator from ND who resides in Virginia with his lobbyist wife and two kids – so, like Webb, he was “home” for Thanksgiving, and in close proximity to the Capitol.
Ummmm, will the general public know about this? Not hardly as the MSM will not do a story on this. The general public care more about (insert latest reality show here) then they do about what tricks the politicians are up to.
Here’s a nutroots news flash. The fire at the Old Executive Office Building yesterday was a test run. Bush plans on setting a small fire in the Senate to prevent the 30 second pro forma sessions. He will then fill all of the vacant positions with conservatives, cut taxes, issue oil drilling permits allowing oil drilling off the coast of San Fran, remove all species for the endangered list, and declare war on Iran.
