Mohammed now second most popular boys’ name in Britain

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 19, 2007 09:45 AM

Via the Daily Mail:

Forthe last 13 years it has reigned supreme as the most popular boy’s name in the land.

But in multicultural Britain, children named after the Muslim prophet Mohammed could soon be outnumbering the long-time favourite Jack.

In a reflection of the increasing influence of Islam on UK society, figures released by the Office of National Statistics yesterday showed that the most popular spelling of the name - Mohammed - had climbed five places to 17th in the annual list of most popular baby names.

But when the seven other spellings of the name are taken into account, the total amounted to 6,347 babies, making it the second-most popular name of the year - up from 5,936 last year.

Although Jack topped the list with 6,772 babies, that figure fell 156 on last year, meaning that if the trends were repeated next year, Mohammed and its variant spellings would be the most popular choice in England and Wales.

Call the firing squad! Get out the knives! Behead all those who insult Islam!

A commenter at HotAir a few weeks ago said that Muslims think it demeans their prophet to name a “filthy animal” (or maybe a “silly toy” too) after him. But a valued child is OK, as it expresses a desire for the child to grow up imitating Mohammed, my thought is whatever–is he really worth imitating, but according to this commenter that’s their view. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this makes sense to me given the views on touching or even being near certain animals like dogs or pigs.

Still, I don’t understand why this particular question keeps being asked all the time on here. Children get named after patron saints or family members all the time.

The issue is: why do they think it’s so bad to name a teddy, not why they think it’s OK to name their children after their admired person, which I would think would be self evident.

Because teddy bears refuse to grow up to be suicide bombers and little boys named mohammed, muhammad, mahammed etc. etc. etc. aspire to blow themselves up.

I have a terrible feeling that Britain has already lost it’s war with Islam without even being aware that it was in one.

Once the Muslim’s get superior numbers (which they’re well on their way to doing) they will take control of the leadership positions, from there it will be a short step to institute Sharia law.

Its because Christians never go off the deep end about someone being named Jesus, Mary, Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, Madonna, etc. I just think that if they are going to go crazy over “defiling” the sacredness of their “prophet” then they should be consistent.

The issue is: why do they think it’s so bad to name a teddy, not why they think it’s OK to name their children after their admired person, which I would think would be self evident.

I think it is a legitimate question to ask why one is ok and one is not. Especially after the whole teddy bear incident.

I guess I just brought it up because that question’s been asked about 100 times on here and HotAir over the last few weeks and I never once saw anyone respond to the explanation by this commenter, whose name escapes me, or my repeats of it, that Muslims consider naming of animals (or maybe toys) to defile a name or whatever. People never answer that thesis, they just keep repeating the question. That was all I meant.

Keep this in mind when you hear the eco-nuts claim we need to penalize people who have children, or mandate family limits, or tax large families as eco-burdens.

Certain groups (i.e. Muslims) will *not* abide by those silly restrictions and overwhelm us. And Islam does not have a stellar track record on environmental issues. What’s the carbon offset for burning a car in Paris?

When I tell people that I eventually want a large family, they look at me like I’m crazy. Part of the reason - aside from loving and wanting children - is that they’re the *only* way America will continue.
